Powertech - am I doing it wrong?

so... I pvp'd for the first time tonight since 1.4 went live. For the last two days I've read a LOT of negativity about the powertech changes.

 

"QQ I can't kite as well"

"QQ my I can't start attacking from a distance"

"QQ give us back our range"

 

 

Well, am i the ONLY powertech that now uses both thermal detonator and explosive dart in my rotation now that they aren't on the same cooldown? Because while I hear (well, read) a bunch of QQing, I notice my dps going even higher O_o

Vanguard, but as a mirrior, no you are not doing it wrong IMO. I would say sticky grenade(our version) is a good opener now, but I wouldnt put it into my rotation though. Once within 10m you have better options. Edited by Draekos

I just noticed a bunch of people ************, but when I got in game my average dps per match went up.

 

I don't ALWAYS use it in my rotation, but when they start to get low in HP, I'll toss it in there to help finish them off before a healer can save 'em

People are just ticked the Vantech AS/Pyrotech isn't a range/melee hybrid anymore. These are the same people that rolled the class because everyone said it was so good. Now you need to adapt to the changes and a bit more skill to play it and people don't like that.

 

This is the standard story for every popular class that gets a nerf in every PvP MMO ever made anywhere. I just laugh, kill them all with my perfectly find Powertech, and move on. Enjoy the free kills while they last.

True it does add more burst as well. :)

I'm specced Carolina Parakeet on my PT and going Assault Specialist on my VG I'm still leveling, and in pvp I've noticed a significant increase in dps on both. Yeah, the incendiary missile is a little more wonky because of the range reduction, but that has actually caused me to change up my rotation which by pure luck it became more efficient as far as heat. So, yeah, let them QQ about how it's broken now... rather read and listen to them whine then all the ppl QQ'ing about how OP we are.

What rotation are you guys talking about :confused: ? You mean those three buttons you need to mash to face-roll people :p? And you needed to change that :eek:? My god that must have been hard ;).

Just a bit a joking/trolling here, don't heat up :D.

 

:D lol they think they are amazing, skillfull and even got a "rotation". In pyro u can't be skillfull, as pyro doesn't require any skill, thinking or tactics (yes, I'm PT too, I'm know what I'm talking about.). Pyro is absolutely boring, u got 3 abilities that do everything for you automatically, just keep pressing the buttons.

I've always seen Powertechs as a melee range class, not a ranged class. Sometimes I like to troll people by rapid shotting them from a distance (which applies my dot) and then rail shotting them (which is also my very viable closing-in rotation when coupled with explosive dart).

 

Honestly it's all, like you said, a bunch of QQ. People that relied on range as a Powertech were either dumb, not playing their class right, or both.

Powertechs and vanguards are NOT equipped to fight at malee range.

We have the WORST slow in the game (30% while all other classes have 50% slows) so we will be kited by ranged all the time and facerolled by malee all the time.

We do not have the defensive cooldowns/escape mechanisms of malee classes (camuflage, vanish, friendly leap, 99% damage reduction, 20% damage reduction for 30 seconds, force speed), we have one shield on a 2 minute cooldown.

Finally dirty fighting scoundrels have their shrap bomb and vital shot at 30 meter range, their heal is 30 meter yet they are intended to be a malee class, explain that - its a fail logic - incindiery round/missile should be a 30 meter attack - it was our gap closer.

I play a PT and a Scoundrel, so speak about your own weaknesses because I don't share them with you. Dirty Fighting Scoundrels are a hard comparison to pyro PT, one is single target and the other is AOE spec.

 

If you bite into an Apple and taste a Banana then nothing I can say will change that.

Oh poor pyros, now they cant hit people for 30-50% of their hp from 30 metres using rail shot and detonator, but still having ability just faceroll 3 buttins and win in melee fights. U asking for too much. Wanna own people from distance? Go play sniper then.

We don't have escape abilities? Well that sucks for my opponents, I guess I just have to kill them instead of trying to run away. I'm mando'ad. Why the hell would I try to escape instead of taking down my opponents?

 

As far as gap closers, Explosive Dart > Rapid Shots > Rail Shot. By now you should be within 10m.

 

Seriously, I don't get why this is such a problem

Actually im already doing 400+k damage on my level 30ish gunslinger so sure, no problem.

Actually a 3 buttton rotation fits perfectly a rage or carnage marauder doing 350k damage in recruit gear on my sent ...

And finally ... im still dropping 50% of peoples health on my powertech ... just now im dropping it for 5 people at the same time with flame thrower so :D
