mrshemerk
what the subject says... I have a few friends who play for the 'other' side - I do like to see when they're online, maybe I'll switch characters and go play with them, maybe send a few emails - but I can't add them to the friends list... I'm not expecting to form a party with them as a republic agent and go adventuring - but come on - why can't I even see when they're online ?? redsovereign
Unf it's a old faction MMORPG issue. Since both sides is in "cold war" with each other there isn't really any communication except spies. If you want to have your friends on your friend list and chat with them you have to roll a toon on their faction side. Raudbjorn
Still doesn't make sense. OOC (Out Of Character) chat across factions should be implemented already. After all, MMO's is also about socialising and chatting is part of it. Just to question a thing...one can, as far as i know, use the /say channel to communicate with the opposite faction. Why is this possible when one can't something as OOC as whisper?
TKMaster
Thankfully no, use mumble or some IM,titter mabey. One of the many things i disliked about SWG was the Imperial players holding hands with Rebel players because they were "off duty"........god that game destroyed all sense of immersion. If you want to have your friends on your friend list and chat with them you have to roll a toon on their faction side. Technically, around when the player gets to Balmorra, the Second Great Galactic War begins. Read about it on Wookieepedia. Anyway, it doesn't make sense for a Jedi to befriend a Sith canonically. Sort of interrupts the immersion of RP Servers, doesn't make sense in an attack-on-sight PvP server, and in PvE servers, it doesn't serve much use. Because there's no way my Light side Bounty Hunter that sided with the Pubs in the story quests would ever even SPEAK to other Republic agents and personnel... oh wait a second... It's almost like Smugs and BH should have been part of a third separate Neutral faction, it could have been led by Revan and be comprised of Sith Runaways and Jedi outcasts. It's almost like the ENTIRE point of the KOTOR series was completely freaking missed with this game, it's almost like 99% of the people MAKING this game never even played KOTOR. This is one of them. DEAL WITH IT. It's not like you don't know the game is this way. So if you choose to play the game, you have accepted their choice on this issue. NoFishing
I'm going to say, even though this isn't possible today, it would be if BW would simply make the friends list account-wide. Having a separate friends list on all my toons is a bear to manage.

Fleurdelis
Swtor can implement something. Wow has a feature that if u have entered your friends email associated with their account it tells you when they log in and shows u what toon they are on including location. And it doesnt matter if its horde or alliance toon. Shows both. Cant remember what the feature is called though. Havent played wow since last year. STREALOK
well.. all imma say is that i'm highly displeased that my Imperial Sith Assassin can't e-mail my Republic Commando a Kyber Assault Cannon ..... cause i really want to test it out... but HEY!! I'M AN EMPIRE PLAYER WITH A WEAPON THAT IS ONLY USABLE BY THE REPUBLIC COMMANDO!!..... so pissed at that -_- and thinking about it... if i make a guild with my sith assassin.. probably won't be able to join it and therefore not able to use the guild bank to transfer..... it urks me so much to have the specific cannon i always wanted to try.. but can't frikkin use it.. so it just sits there in my inventory mocking me whenever i log in because i do not want to sell it or dismantle it. just in-case the dev's patch this someday

If you are currently a Imperial player, such as Dark Side player, you Cannot, [NOT] add any of your republic friends to your friend list because it is opposite faction. If you wish to play with your Republic friends, I suggest creating a Republic character on the Republic side such as "Light side". If you have other characters that are Imperial and Republic, then Yes you can put your stuff in your Legacy bay and get them out on any other character. Hope that clears out something. Well too bad, we are going to punish with this story driven perverted comic book SWTOR and deny you everything an MMO is supposed to be (AKA SWG) and ram this storyline down your throat and you will like it. And if you don't like it, we will keep ramming it down your throat because that all we want this game to be is a single player storyline. You mean to tell me you want a game that you can have a comlete social aspect on both factions like SWG? You mean you want entertainer non combat classes to create a sub culture with like SWG? You mean you want cities built by guilds with real player city housing in it like SWG? You mean you want to actually hunt real players down with your bounty hunter like SWG? Are you crazy? You mean give up this perverted homosexual storyline for an actual real MMO with a real social aspect and game play?
Uruare
Because we're actually supposed to hate and mistrust eachother IRL and have minimal communication with the other faction, or it will dilute the verisimilitude of the Alliance and Horde lore. When you set foot into Azeroth, Blizzard wants you to feel like you've stepped into a living, breathing world in which the friendships you make define you just as much as the victories you achieve over...and defeats you suffer under... your enemies. And we all know that Bioware originally designed SWTOR to closely follow Blizzard's vision of five years prior.
Lularapio
Simple way to fix this - create a way for people add friends by their legacy and make it effect account wide. There are so many missed opportunities with the legacy feature it is not even fun.
