Ironcleaver
I do know one person that plays and his load times are around 5 minutes.. His system, if I can remember it correctly.. is: 1.8Ghz Dual Core, 2GB System memory, Intel cheap mainboard, Radeon HD 6850, and a Junk 7200RPM Drive. His CPU is clearly the problem, to the point he dosne't even play anymore. :-/
ZudetGambeous
Whatever the problem it I don't think its harddrive related. My hard drive is Idle for over half of the time I spend looking at loading screens. It doesn't even start spinning until 60-90 seconds into the load screen. Once it actually starts spinning I load in another 60-90 seconds.
adultprodigy
I don't know if this is just me but... I went back to wow the other day (They gave me 7 days free so I decided to pop back in). WoW's loading screen, no addons is about 5 to 10 seconds. With dozens of addons, it's about 2 minutes. Other MMOs that I've played are about the same lengh. SWTOR's loading screen is a whopping 5 to 10 MINUTES or longer. My PC is moderately powerful (Core i7, Windows 7, 6 GB ram, 1GB dedicated video memory, plenty of harddrive space). Am the only one suffering these extended loading times? If not, anyone know what I can do about it? It takes you 5 to 10 minutes to load?? Can you provide further system specs? Ex: -Harddrives -Raid 0-1-5-10 etc Thats a nice setup for gaming, not sure why its taking THAT long to load the game. I have a similar setup but it takes 30 secs to a minute to load the game. Make sure you dont have a lot of stuff loaded in memory or taking up CPU power. Defrag your Swtor harddrive weekly! This game accesses and writes more to your HDD than any MMO or standalone game I have come across. Pick up Auslogics defrag portable executable defragger. One of my favorites and doesn't require an install! Coldin
It's clearly a CPU limited thing. My own loading times aren't great, and a really big planet, like Corellia can take minutes to download. It is something I hope they will work to address and speed up loading. I think one person looked at what files the game was loading, and it usually reloaded all the character information every time. So there's probably a lot of room for improvement on that front.
Ironcleaver
While zoning I may get a 2 or 3 second "pause" but the rest of the time my drive is thrashing away loading data... I did do one Windows Tweak some months ago.. I Disable Nagle's algorithm.. Nagle's algorithm generally "clusters" small network packets together and sends them one time over the network.. By disabling it, small packets are sent without waiting... Worth looking into -NOT- recommended for novice computer users, and always make registry backups! Disable Nagle's algorithm (half way down the page). I will say that I generally have less latency issues then my friends.... No clue if this will help that TOR zoning "pause" though. i can only report that I rarely ever see a pause of more then 2 or 3 seconds (no activity) while zoning. [edit: typos - hate this g15 keyboard. :-/ ] Edited May 28, 2012 by Ironcleaver

Well... it's an I/O thing, actually. That includes the overall interactions of proc, RAM, and HDD/SSD. Edited May 28, 2012 by JeramieCrowe

Goretzu
10 mins? I'm sure that's an exaggeration. They shouldn't take more then a minute. 2 tops. Some people do have massive loading times (especially on Correllia), seemingly irespective of PC spec, this has been reported so many times since Beta. hijaxhfx
Hoping with this next patch, that maybe it might have some performance fixes.? i do think that the server situation is a big problem, but if loading takes so long for a lot of people , like me it makes it hard to enjoy a game i love to play. and when the server mergers happen or transfers etc, what ever they do.. people with this loading problem, is this gonna make the loading situation even worse? Raeln
It is true. They are using a FULL, UPDATED version of the HERO engine capable of 200v200. Just because the engine is capable of 200v200 doesn't mean enough players will own machines capable of rendering 200v200.
Raeln
A and B don't help solve the problem. It's NOT a huge exaggeration. It's an under estimation. Just because YOU get good load times, doesn't mean everyone else does. This is the ONLY game I get high load times. I've considered a SSD, but I can't justify it's price. Not only would it cost $300 for a 500GB hard drive (I've looked for a 1TB SSD and can't find it) I'd have to pay an extra $100 to get someone else to fit it because I have no idea how to fit a SSD. I enjoy TOR, but $400+ in one sitting is too much for a single game, Especially when I don't have this trouble with ANY other game. EDIT: I started this thread willing to admit that my computer is a pile of bantha droppings, but evidence is stacking up against the game itself. If it is my computer, I would like to be able to fix it without spending too much money. I bought a 64GB SSD to run Windows and TOR on - everything else goes on my old conventional drive. I went from 3 to 4 minute Corellia load times to maybe 2 minutes. Fleet loads in 20 seconds or less. My ships load in 10 seconds. I paid about $75 for the drive, though I installed it myself. TOR may be the only thing "requiring" it for now but in the future, everything will. By future, I mean - not so distant future. I'll also toss out the obligatory gripe about TOR's loading times - why they didn't go with a subzoned system is beyond me.
kiddynomite
10 minutes loading screen time, seriously?! haha Maybe if your PC is on par with a refrigerator from the 80's... classic leet response.
Razdek
I wouldnt say my load times take 5 to 10 minutes but anything more them 30 seconds to 1 minute on any game for loading is just bad coding when you have computers that meet or are over the recommended specs for the game. Its a design problem in TOR. They have said that in 1.3 they are optomising some performance issues. Hopefully this addresses things such as overly long loa screens and generally poor fps in gamedue to the rushed coding.
Burtlebe
My load times are extremely random, some days coriella loads fast and some days it takes forever but nothing like what it was in beta trying to get on taris. I have a good to great build. I think the issue is server side. I been paying more attention to it the last week. If the load meter gets to 25% and stalls, you have long load time. During this time, cpu usage and hard drive activity for tor drops to almost nothing. The moment the cpu and hard drive activity start again it take about 30 secs for the planet to load. kitsinni
I noticed that certain places have much longer loading times. If I am on the fleet I load quick, if I am on Alderaan for whatever reason it takes like 5 times as long as any other place. I can tell you right now the OPs computer is more than enough to play this game. I know people who play on laptops with way less under the hood and have much quicker loading times. Commomp
I've ran into long loading times on the planets that have end game material, but for the most part, I don't ever wait more than 1 to 2 minutes. I have an AMD 100t six core processor, a Corsair GT 240G SSD which strictly exists for SWTOR. 16GB of memory that probably helps a bit as well. I think the load times also are dictated by the vast amount of data that has to be loaded. On all those other mmo's you don't have voice overs that have to be loaded up, and other things that SWTOR has that other mmo's don't.
Galossj
I'm running on an incredible system.. core i7 16gb ram, 2 6970s in crossfire. Windows is on an SSD raid 0 array, tor is on a completely seperate SSD drive. some planets still take 3-4 min. (not exaggerating) to load... taris is a good example. my system is an ordinary pc... core i3 4 gb ram... to 30 seconds to 1 minute to log in... and i thought it was too much!! Monoth
If its taking 5-10 mins to load into each planet you have something seriously wrong..... The most it takes me is like 45-60 secs for the bigger planets (which is still to long IMO)... for the space station it only takes ilke 10-15 seconds... I will admit I use a solid state hard drive for my Operating System and SWTOR but a 7200 rpm Hard Drive shouldn't take that much longer... There's a few people in my guild who do have to wait around 2 mins for the larger planets but thats the longest I've heard.... When I switched from my 7200 RPM to my SSD, my load times went from 30-45sec to 3-6sec. So far, I think Corellia takes the longest to load at ~9sec... All of this is at max graphics, of course. DiabloDoom
If you are taking 10 mins to load then I would check to see as to what other processes are running in the background, defrag your HDD, and run a full CHKDSK for bad clusters.
