I'm really hoping they do planned and purposeful merges based on numbers and data. Honestly, I'm a little worried about just plain old free transfers because it will be hard to know whether everyone on your server is going to move somewhere else and thus make your server one of the new dead ones, or whether you should move to another one.....I think it will be be difficult to know for sure what to do. I think it would be best for Bioware, aka those with the real data and numbers, to make intentional/planned server merges so that the things are balanced and not thrown way out of control.

 

I played Aion for a while and when they opened up free transfers, factions and numbers on servers got thrown way out of whack after the first round, people got upset, then they had to lock the servers back down again to play damage control and keep things from getting worse, etc. There may be specific cases where someone needs to transfer to play with friends or family, but I think the initial move should be planned merges. It doesn't appear that we need so many servers right now.....let's consolidate and move forward with a strong and balanced base.

Noob 50 here playing since end of FEB 2012. I've had my Level 50 for about 2 weeks now. I'm BORED with nobody online to RAID with. Granted my guild buddies have been a crutch for lack of people, but BW needs to address the population issue.

 

Couple points:

  • TRANSFERS should NOT cost any money (EVER).
  • Should be able to MOVE an entire Character with all the ALT's and retain the LEGACY.
  • Should be able to MOVE an entire GUILD and all Characters & ALT's with LEGACY being retained.
  • MERGE of servers will require this level of migration and increasing drop rates / complexity will be needed.

Summer is HERE, SWTOR is going to lose SUB's. Question is how many do they want to return or keep? I won't pick up and move servers if I'm going to LOSE many things in the process (Legacy, Guild) for the "Chance" of a larger population.

 

Get off your butts BW team and maybe even improve the CS to be less "Sorry can't do anything for you..." and enable CS the ability to do ANYTHING productive for end users in game. (Like give them a missing GEM or something w/o a developer being required). Really is it going to kill the economy for them on the spot give someone some item to help them out? I had a major issue a couple weeks ago and three tickets later got NOTHING for my headache besides 1 free day of SUB. (Really??? You just gave out 30 days to many others)

Logged into vent today to group up with my pvp team... to discover 2 of them have unsubbed because they are so frustrated with Q times because of population issues.... leaves me no choice, I now have to do the same.

 

I hope when the transfers are rolled out I'm not wrapped up and invested in something else and can come back :confused:

i do agree that there are population issues. My server has died very fast since 1.2 and D3 Releases. It has quite rapidly decreased but my guild is still doing our weekly raids, hitting every progression, and still strong.

summer IS not here YET.

 

SUMMER starts on June 21 (pretend that 21 is in capital numbers.)

 

So say June 21st is the magical day when BW finally decides to get off its "you know what" and finally offer the server transfers, players then start the transfer process, players are now somewhat happy to be on a slightly more populated server, BW standing tall with chest pumped out proud of their accomplishment! and then.....................June 26ish the possible release of GW2, servers once again empty out and BW is right back where they started from, unhappy player base, further bleeding subs, end of the world etc.

 

This transfer thing is a**backwards, they really should've concentrated their efforts into mergers, cut the servers down to a 3rd of what they have and then offer transfers, This server transfer system will be a bigger fail then 1.2 and accomplish nothing as far as the current population problem is concerned.

June 21 is the beginning of summer. But not the "range of dates" that can be considered "early summer". Early summer is mid point of range of days within summer minus one day. So BW has up to end of July to technically be in "early summer". I would adjust expectations that it won't be before the end of July and if it is you can be pleasantly surprised! ;)

I agree with Robochomp. It will totally crap out if they don't move forward with the strategic collapse of those servers via a MERGER with others before the next big game comes along.

 

I'm considering summer as HERE due to the fact most kids are getting out of school and potentially will increase the pool of people online. We do have a large base of MMO players that have to work and juggle RAIDS after hours.

I have a questions for you BioWare!

 

How many servers will qualify for free transfers?

 

Will you be transferring just 1 server to a single server, or possibly 2 servers to a single server?

 

Exactly what range would you like your servers to be in population wise?

To me, anything below the level of " Canderous Ordo " is too low of a population, and even that server seems to be showing a large decrease in activity.

 

 

I seriously doubt any of the top 30 most populated US servers will qualify for a free transfer, but hopefully they'll qualify to receive players. I rerolled on Shadow Hand some time ago. There were 85 people in the starter zone when I decided to reroll there. It is the 14th most populated US server, but it's been very slow lately. Just 3 Republic on Balmorra and only 18 on the Fleet currently (4:35pm/Friday). The Fatman is much more vibrant with lots of chatter and lots of groups forming in all zones.

 

123 US servers.

98 of them have populations that are way too low.

It's easy to see it this way because the population requirement for a server to be STANDARD is waaayyy too wide. My server is on the upper end of STANDARD, and it's just about right.

 

I can get groups anytime I want, yet when I do dailies or quests, I'm not having to wait on respawn. It's just about the perfect balance. The Ebon Hawk, about 20th on the TORstatus list, and doing just fine. ;)

LOL. NO, midpoint within summer minus one day is MID-SUMMER.

 

By common convention, summer is divided into three parts: early, mid, and late. Roughly one month duration each.

Don't be silly. The Ebon Hawk is the 9th most populated US server. I'm currently playing on Shadow Hand (14th), and I think it has too few people. Republic side at least. Any server with less population than the 25th most populated is too low.

I'm more than sure that the person you're talking to does not have any kind of grasp on the current situation that one could call "realistic".

I just looked, and The Ebon Hawk is actually 16th. It's moved up a bit.
