dudeyoumadbro
I recently decided to actually use my crew skill to the fullest a couple of days ago, and my first order of business was try to get an augmented off-hand. Now I have crafted 'Entropic Shield Generator' to the purple 'Commanders Entropic Shield Generator'. My question is in order to crit an augment for that off-hand, now does it crit when you craft it or when you RE it?
Ras_Thavas
You critical on the crafting of the item.
MidichIorian
First, I'm not sure if it's possible to crit offhand but if it is it's going to happen when you craft it. RE-ing will only give you back some of the mats the initial item is made of.

Yeah its possible, I saw someone link a Augmented Off-hand in General Chat which inspired me to try and make one of my own
Mikesglory
Every slot can crit an augment slot. Try making sure your craft the item with a companion specialised into that crit proffession (that extra 5% crit is godlike, especially as the normal critrate for augments is around ~10%)

Ordika
That efficiency will help him get done faster if nothing else, so you can see if it crits. I can't remember if it actually helps the crit or not. Also, if you get his affection to 10,000, that adds another 5% to the crit chance.
Natarii
Save your materials and keep trying for a different artifact version of that offhand. "Commanders" versions have +Pressence on them, which in my opinion, is a completely useless stat. Don't waste mats trying to Augment a +pressence item. Just my $ 1/50 .... Actually, I'd start over from green. Commander is +power and +presence. This is a shield we're talking about, so it's for a tank. You want Redoubt for the blue, and then RE that redoubt for a Veracity for the purple. But that's if you're truely going for the optimal item. Seeing as this is a shield though, from what I remember going to blue then purple the only real advantage is the stats from the tier names, there's basically no reason to go purple unless it's Veracity. So by crafting the original schematic, you can get a difference variation?
Vizzinni
There is a sticky I believe about REing. basically the Green can become 3 Blues. and each blue can become 5 Purples...except 1.... so in total you can make 17 different variants of the green. Sambril
So by crafting the original schematic, you can get a difference variation? Yes - check the Guide to RE. Basically a green item can be RE'd to 3 different blues (+defense [Redoubt], +power [Overkill], +critical [Critical]). Each of those blues can then be RE'd to 5 purples, each providing a bonus to one of shield, surge, presence, alacrity, accuracy with a new name (though the Redoubt one currently does not RE to a +alacrity). Some combinations are better than others.
