TheEngineerX
Im not too savy when it comes to SW lore but i have a question that has been bothering me. In order to learn to use the force one is either taught the light side from jedi or the dark side from the sith. That being said are there any force weilding characters who learned to use the force on there own? With no guidance (or minimal guidance) from either of the two factions? TheEngineerX
Also are there any other factions that teach the use of the force other than the jedi and the sith?
LupieZero
Several... Independent Force-users Besides Sith and Jedi traditions and Imperial dark side cadres, there were other organizations devoted to the Force. These often originated in another earlier tradition, but had left it after a schism or similar event. These could belong to either the light or dark side, or simply exist somewhere in between. Some of the better known examples of independent Force-user groups included the Ysanna, the Witches of Dathomir, the Aing-Tii Monks, the Baran Do, the Fallanassi, the Jensaarai, the Krath, the Sorcerers of Tund as well as many other Force-based organizations. Also, some Force-users did not adhere to any code or creed, but were self-taught or raised and trained by independent masters. There was also a family of Force-wielders known as "The Ones" on the planet Mortis. In the Star Wars RPG (pen and paper, d20 system) you could play as a Force-Adept (or Dark Side Adept) that had access to the various Force powers, but not the Jedi / Sith specifics. TONZ
There is the nightsisters of Dathomir. Dark side witches. I also thought the Corillian noble guards were force sensitive, but can't find that anywhere, maybe I read that about another race.
AngelousWang
There is no grey despite what a million people would tell you. There is only there Lighside and the Darkside. Sure you can sit in the middle and use both, but it's very difficult to go from chaotically emotional (using the Darkside) to serenely peaceful (using the Lightside) at will. And you'll always be weaker than a pure Darksider/Lightsider at their respective sides. Therefore it's always best to go ether full Darkside or full Lightisde. And if your going to go full Darkside or full Lightisde, why would you not go Jedi or Sith? Both orders are perfect for the respective extremes. Not all force users come from planets under control of the Jedi / Sith, and so would typically remain with their native Force traditions. Edit ~ Jedi typically wouldn't train older force sensitives / force users due to emotional ties etc... And Sith, if you weren't the right race they'd just as soon kill you. (In the RPG) Being Jedi / Sith granted use of light sabers and certain Jedi / Sith specific abilities. However, force adepts had other options open to them. Being Jedi / Sith means following a code (interpreted differently by each individual) being Light / Dark is just that. And the Cereans were known to contemplate both the Light and the Dark (at the same time sometimes thanks to their binary brains). Staavis_SC
Don't forget the Flesh Raider on Tython. His Force abilities naturally appeared, and he is at a critical crossroads, IE, the precepice of going either Light or Dark Side.
JacenHallis
Don't forget the Zeison Sha. This is a sect of Force users that believes that family is very important. It's diametrically opposed to the Jedi's "no attachment" policy. Yet, these people are no more inclined to be dark sided than Jedi are. There are a large number of Force traditions out there. The Jedi and Sith aren't the only ones. They're just the biggest at this time.

So yes, there is a grey area. Furthermore, the Aing-Tii Monks viewed the Foce as a spectrum, with no definitive light or darkside. ScarletBlaze
You can be force sensitive and not belong to either the Jedi Order or the Sith. Not all force sensitives join those organizations and even though they are Jedi and Sith they are still an organization. Sorry, but as much as I like the game, there is a tier system to the canon of star wars, and games are pretty far down on the list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_canon There is a hell of alot more info from books and comics saying that there is more than just the light side and the dark side, before this game was ever released. edit: as an mmorpg, SWTOR falls under S-canon, which is below C-canon.
