Pve vs Pvp

I was under the impression that Swtor was a pve game 1st with pvp as an option.

So why is this game being balanced around pvp, since pvp consists of 3 boring warzones?

If you believe this game is balanced around PvP, then you sit here and read the forums too much.

This is 100% false, yet you could never tell the forums users this(bioware devs have already confirmed that balance is not based on warzone/pvp stats).

Umm, ok there, smart guy. What IS it balanced around? PvE bosses? Yeah.. no. Try again. Pretty much EVERY mmo out there nerfs based on PvP. There are some that don't. They don't have any form of PvP or planned PvP.

See, if it was balanced around PvE bosses, for example, then PvE bosses would have been balanced better to reflect this. Instead, we're facing beta level Elites in missions from before the original player class nerfs (quite a few times +1 level to the mission level and yours as well) that are unbeatable unless you either A. Bring a friend or two, or B. Go do other missions and level up once or twice so you can actually solo it.

For a specific example, you get the Defeat Bashun (I know that isn't the title, but oh well) mission on Taris, It's rated for level 34. Inside is a Tech Gladiator Elite that is level 35 and not a very nice kitty. He's one nasty character. Granted, I can beat him fairly easily on my Juggernaut, Mercenary, and Assassin with the right tactics. Now, on my Sniper, he was a royal pain in the ***. Now, to be fair, my Jugg, Assassin, and Merc were all level 35 or 36 when I faced him, but you get the idea. Sorry to say, but it looks like PvP is going to keep the nerfs coming as long as people come on here and QQ that someone is whuppin their ***es in PvP and they're "way too overpowered - sob".

Now, if you want more examples, Vessex Ulgo, LT Marcovic (Melee Specialists), Darth Angral, Sel-Makor on the Imp side (Sorcerer-types). They're all way too overpowered and it's basically the fault of BioWare for not rebalancing them.... more to the point, it's the pressure from PvPers that cause the nerfs in the first place.

Explain to me then why i had more fun playing the game back during the closed beta test in December 2010 and the closed beta test that followed it than i do now? Because BioWare succumbed to the constant and incessant whining from the PvP crowd. "Oh noes! This update compromised my latest l33t, noob pwning build. Better complain to the devs again!" I have seen them ruin other MMO's and they are going to ruin this one too if the developers continue listening to those idiots.

I am here for PVP with a Star Wars IP. It's been a month since i even tried a flashpoint. I don't care about PVE. Anything that can make the PVP better is all I care about. And I really appreciate the work Bioware is putting into it.

They also seem to be adding content but doesn't seem to be enough for the PVE whiners who don't seem to have enough content.

Great thing about PVP is that the players ARE the content.

We have plenty of content. We'd actually be enjoying it if it wasn't for the gimped classes that wield nerf bats instead of lightsabers and blasters. You think that you are content and contributing something to this game? Haha, talk about delusions of grandeur. Thanks for the laugh, bub!

And that would be completely fine with me. I picked a PvE server for a reason.

BioWare needs to realize that everybody plays this game for different reasons. I have been playing MMO's for more than a decade now. I do not care for PvP! I never have and i never will. So why should my entertainment be hindered by something that shouldn't be on my server in the first place?

How does balancing PvP hurt your enjoyment?

I mean seriously, does you enjoyment hinge on how much DPS your class does? Heck you don't even know how much DPS your class does or howyou do relative to the max of your class.

The could theorhetically nerf a classes damage by 50% accross then board, and tha class might still have the highest damage out put, since we have no idea what the numbers are.

Are you seriously failing to down content, in this game? if you are, the problem isnt the nerfed classes.

I didn't want to say this to him. In terms of discussion I think Twixx just didn't get my point.

In terms of helping PVE in the manner You describe Twixx I think the eventual implementation of meters will help. Content doesn't seem to be tuned that hard in the PVE.

Let's discuss the abilities and changes that balance PVP. I will take an example. Healing. BW themselves said that the healing nerfs were to tune PVE difficulty. Now healing was also an issue for some PVP players and being PVP players they may have been more vocal about it but I think BW encounter data and metrics probably caused changes more than PVP complaints.

Another example maybe more attributable to PVP smugglers/op nerfs. Well they were needed. I think they are due for some kind of midlevel attack buff (just a prediction from a PVP style player) But the nerf to them wouldn't be game breaking since the burst they had in a throwdown would not effect a 5 minute boss encounter but they sure as heck effected someone in a WZ.

Bioware devs also stated that they also were concerned that encounters were not optimized for 2 tanks. Is this PVP's fault? no. Trust me Bioware is trying to help you carebears as well. It's just that I only care about their work for PVPers.

I have a question that has been bugging me for quite some time now. Does open PvP even exist on PvP servers other than the same warzones on the regular servers...I'm lvl 30 now and have yet to even see a republic polayer outside of warzones...

What you don't get is i simply do not give a **** about PvP. It's that plain and simple. PvPers are not the sole reason behind the nerfs but they are certainly contributing to it. Nerfs aren't fun for PvE oriented players like me. I play this game because i love Star Wars, its lore, its themes and the wonderful soundtracks of John Williams. I want the same kind of experience i got from their singleplayer games in addition to co-op oriented content. My issue lies within the nerfing of the classes and various other aspects of the game. Like Slicing, for instance. I have no issues with the plots and the actual gameplay content in the game. If you are already bored with it, well, that is not my *********** problem nor is it the game's fault. I suggest that you go play DoTa or some other internet dick measuring fest where you can constantly exhibit your mighty, nerd prowess.

Hey easy. PvP'ers didn't make those ridiculous outfits you have to wear or write none lore based content. Why are you here again? You said something about a "Star Wars" game right?

Try improving your reading comprehension and the answer shall reveal itself to you.

Oh I read it all right. Just your idea of what "Star Wars" is is WAYYYYY different then mine. This is WoW in space. I have yet to see anything iconic here. Maybe your a KOTOR fan and I'm mistaking you for a Star Wars fan? :D

You're wrong.

The reason for some of the changes is in fact to increase the challenge level of top end content by tightening class balance. Healing through top end content was, as a fact, not tightly balanced enough in the past and a prime contributor to the fact that our top end difficulty content was just not providing the challenge level people expected.

This encapsulates both the medpac change (without being able to make safe assumption about the availability of optional healing, it is impossible to strike a reliable balance that doesn't require people to shell out hundreds of thousands of credits for item based healing) as well as the class changes.

The other major reason is class to class and role to role balance.

I honestly have no idea what your complaint is

You say you like the game because you love star wars, its lore, its themes and the wodnerful soundtracks of John Williams.

How does nerfing an attacks damage by a few percent effect any of those?

I kinda hate the effect the PvP has on MMO games. It splits the player base and causes balance issues in which we PvE'ers end up being the ones that suffer.

Thats why when EQ2 said it was PvE only i was really excited and bought it straight away. 1 month later they started introducing PvP... annoying. Why cant we PvE people have our own game for once?? Seriously just all go play MW3 or something if you want PvP.
