thestackshow
Not a WoW thread, but a thread where I am at a loss as to describe the performance of this game. I can run the game on my rig at MAX Settings, even with shadows on, everywhere but the fleet and warzones and maintain 50-60 FPS. Now, when I feel like visitng the fleet, but mostly to play warzones, I have to lower my video card, and in-game graphical settings to LOW. Now, lets be honest here, anyone who has played WoW, and has played SWTOR on low settings, knows that on LOW SETTINGS these are WoW level, if not "barely above WoW level" graphics. My rig is only pulling 15-20 FPS in all warzones which are only 8v8. WoW on Ultra was pulling 70+ FPS during 600 person raids and 40v40 Alterac Valley battlegrounds, where the graphics ARE pretty much exactly the same as SWTOR on low. What gives Bioware? I really want to re-sub but I am not buying a new rig to be able to play this game, when it can play so many other games on great settings with no problems. There is another game called WoW that has the same graphics as this game on low settings, but can also handle 80 person battlegrounds at 70 FPS. I love this game, but I cant continue to justify a subscripting with this problem.

But if you think you've got problems my fps is 25 maximum and usually between 5 and
YourFutureEx
I just played a Warzone and got no lag or glitches or bugs whatsoever. I continue to NOT see what all the hub-bub is about the bugs in this game. I have everything on High and not only does it look BETTER THAN WOW, but it plays better too. I guess maybe I should've power leveled a toon to 50 like all the other hard core gamers, then I'd know what they're talking about.

Adeonn
i got the same problem, like many others, i tryed even with 800x600 resolution with all at minimum, wow compared have 100% better graphich whit those changing, and still there are problem in warzones, what i saw is also that there are a kind of unstable latency going from 70 ms to 170 ms, and my connection is stable with wow and all other online games, i guess there are a server issue too, hope they will fix this in the next patch, or they will hope to not lose many sub on the next weeks

On LOW Settings however, it looks like WoW, some of the detail in WoW is actually better, so the graphics are comparable. The difference is, now that they have the same graphics, one game can handle an 80 person battleground and a 300v300 person outdoor raid(that is a huge deal no matter the game actually) while the other game is struggling to run a 16 person warzone with the same graphics as WoW when its on low settings. I find lowering resolutions don't work either, in other games lowering the resolution can provide FPS boosts, for example BF3 I can gain 10+ FPS if i drop the resolution 2-3 times from my native. this game, if i use 800x600.. I still get 12 FPS in warzones.

Why are we even comparing? That's like comparing Skyrim performance to Morrowind. You're so full of crap. Wow had numerous engine upgrades and the texture quality and particle effects are much better then TOR's is . the engine is , however not very sharp in texture detail , not nearly as "outdated" as you think it is. It has DX11 support and multicore cpu/gpu support as well, TOR lacks in that department , too. as it doesnt even have multicore support.. how's that for a outdated engine? Fact is that TOR's engine is not polished and has serious issues with particles and framerate issues. they need to work on that. That's like comparing Skyrim performance to Morrowind. simple , the problem is that some people that have the recommended setting have a problem to play a 8vs8 pvp map, with all settings at minimum. this is from the main site: What are the system requirements for the game? Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz or better Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 3 or later RAM: Windows XP: 1.5GB RAM Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB RAM Note: PCs using a built-in graphical chipset are recommended to have 2GB of RAM. Star Wars: The Old Republic requires a video card that has a minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM as well as support for Shader 3.0 or better. Examples include: ATI X1800 or better nVidia 7800 or better Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better DVD-ROM drive – 8x speed or better (required for installation from physical editions only) Internet connection required to play. EnsignSorrow
I have a GEFORCE GTX 260m, my processor is at the minimal requirement (duo core @ 2.1ghz each - bottleneck?), and 4gb DDR3. I think my PC is a good benchmark for low-end systems that are capable of running the game. I have a notebook, and it is notorious for overheating the GPU. (runs at around 80 idle, 90 degrees on a heavy load, and can potentially reach 115 if I am playing above what it can handle). I run the game on the lowest settings possible except the grass to around 30%, which has no real performance impact. No overheating even when taking an FPS hit. That means my GPU is never under heavy strain either for extended periods of time (A), or the slow performance is rather processor related (B - not surprising with my system). This is a problem with many multi-player games itself. This game is very ambitious in the sense of players being connected to the world. While you might not think it there is a lot of coding (I mean a lot) that is intended to provide this. Basically saying, having a lot of players in one area who are sending information to the server, and ultimately to your client to process those calculations is a feat in itself. I'm not associated with BioWare, but I can say that it could take considerable coding, and time to achieve the fix for this. Technology may even progress before that happens (talking months). What I would suggest is adding flexibility to change some minor graphical options to off, such as lighting effects (specifically), and other higher end filters that are going on. I notice that in The Civil War the turrets firing at the ships gave me a performance hit, since there were those unnecessary calculations. It's hard to say without a monitoring program to say what it is precisely. I wouldn't be surprised if BioWare made this happen for lower-end guys. They are too nice. When most companies would indirectly say: You're below the system requirements (even though the box says otherwise). Which was common-place in the PC gaming market for so long. BioWare already delivered a product that can be played on the minimal system requirements to a higher degree than I have personally seen on the market. So thank BioWare, and if they pull out an epic fix, you had better thank them, again. LOL

Wraithstar
Same issue here, i run Rift/WoW/Age of conan/Crysis 2 all on max but during pvp i can barely even play on Low settings. But im just being patient, i wish when they launched they would have had all this figured out, but just like what EA did to Age of conan, they push it to fast. so Ill just wait it out
tpanisiak
Just to toss my 0.02cents in here. My buddy and I play this game and PvP often. He has a better card than I (GTX 580, and I have x2 GTX 560's). Our computers are damn near identical, other than I'm running Star Wars from an SSD, and he doesn't have that option. In PvP, he reports frame drops as low as 15-20, whereas I have mostly better performance, in fact I could rarely blame any deaths / screwups, or just general chaos on lag on my end. That said he can go into Imperial Fleet without much of a problem (obvious frame dops are normal), but no matter WHAT TIME OF DAY / AMOUNT OF PEOPLE, Imperial Fleet is a slide-show to me. x2 GTX 560 2600 i7 @ 3.4 SSD 16GB RAM My rig is far from "older", or "low-end". In this absolutely, fantastic, insightful review, Bioware believes "Problems down to low-end PCs". Really?
Inspyrd
Well I was running STWOR on a laptop with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo chip 4 GB ram and a Geforce 9500m gs gfx card. averaging 20fps with a range of 5fps- 40fps. with settings set to low. didn't bother trying warzones. I just spent over a grand on a new Laptop with a 2.4 GhZ Quad core i7, 8 Gb ram and a Geforce GTX580m I'm now averaging 40fps with a range of 20-100+fps with settings on High. Just tried three warzones and on high settings was getting 5-15fps. On low settings was getting 5-15fps and on low settings with resolution reduced from 1080p to 1280x720 I was getting 5-15fps. driver support or something. the fact that the performance is shocking in Warzones regardless of the settings must be a clue. Actually I suspect Bioware have a fairly good idea about what is wrong and it's to do with a major flaw in the way the code/game is designed. An expensive and time consuming fix in other words and not something the company are likely to announce publicly. Think I'm gonna spend some time playing a game that actually shows off what my new system can really do. Lord_Itharius
There's a topic called "Horrid FPS" where they've claimed they're working on the problem. Hopefully they find a fix soon. I have the same problem as the OP with a ridiculously overqualified rig. Again, here's my dxdiag to show I'm not telling tall tales. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 1/16/2012, 15:31:48 Machine name: JASON-PC Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.110622-1503) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
