Anyone Dislike Jedi knight voice acting?

So far I find the Jedi Knights voice actor to be the best, come on it is Solid Snake for crying out loud. I am just waiting for him to shout out Metal Gear!

And Jedi are not supposed to show emotion either, that is kinda the whole point.

There is no emotion, there is peace.

He's alright. I dislike how robotic he sounds. Jedi suppress their emotions and think on a rational basis, they are not emotionless. The voice is fine, I just wish there was more varied tone to his voice.

He sure sounds better than Hayden Christensen however. I just wish they wheeled in Ewan McGregor to voice the JK :D.

Strictly speaking, Jedi are most emphatically not supposed to *suppress* their emotions, rather, they are supposed to *master* them. That is not at all the same thing. They aren't supposed to bottle their feelings up, because that is dangerous, they instead learn and understand their feelings so as to defuse them of the power that those emotions might otherwise exert over them.

If you suppress emotions they still have power over you, and can drive your actions when they break through your mental barriers, whereas mastering them makes it impossible for them to surprise you and provoke you to react emotionally. From a Jedi perspective, it is akin to being cured of a phobia, something else that can also take control away from a person and cause them to behave irrationally.

(Even more strictly, it is not so much the emotions but the possessive attachments that come with them, that are the issue. Fear and anger are emotions that are usually prompted by emotional attachments.)

Basically, George Lucas is a Hollywood Buddhist, and Jedi are westernised Buddhists with laser swords.

Back on point, both male actors for the Jedi classes seem to have opted for a mostly uninflected, almost robotic monotone that makes them sound half asleep. This is not really in accordance with the actors from the films, whose vocal performances were not at all robotic. The Consular is worse than the Knight in that regard, but the male voices are the reason that both my Jedi characters are female.

I never played Metal Gear so I'm not biased re: David Hayter.

I think his voice acting is very good. Not Ewan McGregor good, but still very good.

No, it isn't a booming cartoon-character baritone; nor is it arms-flailingly melodramatic. But it's expressive enough.

Perfect for my character: speaking softly and carrying a lightsaber, he is the serene eye of the tempest.

I can't believe your even posting a thread about this. Yes it tells a story, however voice acting in no way affects how fun the game is or your ability to play it. If you hate the voice acting so much, there is a little thing on your computer called a mute button, then you can read the subtitles and play James Earl Jones' voice in your head for all I care. (although personally I think Morgan Freeman is better) Edited by Orabus

This , and just because david hayter did it doesnt make it good at all , you are all just fanboys , if he did it in the solid snake voice then maybe itd be good , but as far as it goes for a jedi knight its terrible , hes too whiney and doesnt sound commanding and staunch protector knight like at all and the script is pretty damn terrible and the sith warrior is just beyond the worst thing ive ever heard

No not this sorry but he sounds solid and firm in his actions. Sorry and bagging on Hayden Christian is just sad. Hes a decent actor but honestly George Lucas cant direct or write dialog.

I actually played to the end of the game without knowing his actor. Simply because he wasn't using his gruff voice. But I enjoyed the experience through level 50. I thought the actor fit. Very noble. well meaning, and willing to do what he could for the good of the people.

QQ to the max....

most pathetic post on the forums i've ever seen so far.

seriously? oh no because everyone was expecting SUPER AMAZING AWESOME dialog from bioware.... especially after making mass effect which had the amount of emotions in about 3 cutscenes... THERE ARE NO EMOTIONS IN STARWARS! the music is the emotion. try watching or playing starwars with no starwars music. GUARENTEE that you will say the same thing lol.

his voice isnt "surpressed" btw. its just calm. like a jedi knight was supposed to be. Obi-wan was the same way lol. if your seriously basing your Knights voice off of the emotional 10 year old Anakin and luke who wasn't TECHNICALLY a jedi knight until after vader was kill and was also an emotional genius. then thats realllllly sad.

this is not episodes 4 5 and 6, this is 2 thousand years ago when the jedi werent all whiny cry babies because they cant stick to their code for more then five freaken seconds.

oh and seriously? the dude from metal gear solid did this voice so its amazing for that reason? he is about as fitting for a jedi voice as a gay guy is fitting for a straight porno lol

the knights voice if anything should be carth onasi's voice, he has the sexiest, most interestin character voice in IMO he was my favorite character and always will be

It just doesn't have that commanding power yet calm and wise voice about it , it always seems like he has no emotion and that he has a bubble in his throat though the sith warriors is worse but honestly , i dont understand why they didnt get one of the jedi knights from the trailers to voice him

disagree, I love his voice.

A couple of my friends who are playing Bouny Hunters or Imperial Agents mentioned that they found the male voice-acting to be more generic than the female in general. I think that's about right. I don't think Hayter's job on the male JH was at all bad, just lower-key and less interesting than Kari Wahlgren's work on the female side.

On the other hand, I have nothing to say against the argument that Raphael Sbarge (Carth Onasi, also Kaidan Alenko) ought to be voicing a featured characer. For that matter, I expected to be making my class choice based on whose love interest he was voicing, seeing as pretty much all of the other BioWare regulars put in an appearance. ;) I stayed up waaaay too late completing the salvage of the Endar Spire on Taris, and was heartbroken when I didn't actually get to see any of the rescued holodata- I was seriously hoping for a glimps of a certain 300-some-odd-year-old Republic pilot. He's probably busy with ME3 and Once Upon a Time right now, but I hope his work shows up in future patches and expansions.

I don't mind the Jedi Knight voice. What I do mind is the lack of variety in voices. All characters of the same class sound alike. It would've been cool if they would've had more voice actors. It would add a bit more individuality.

I didn't know Solid Snake did the voice, but I don't mind it at all.

The scripting is lame sometimes but Hayter is consistent. My favourite voices is probably BH, but even that is a bit lame sometimes. The female voices are good?

This, but then again I'm thankful that they have so many hours of scripted voice acting. The most of not only any video game but of any entertainment period.

"Star Wars: The Old Republic looks set to scoop a number of awards, but it’s starting the mantlepiece collection off early with its name in the Guinness Book of World Records 2012. It’s taken the record for most voice acting in an entertainment project. The game boasts an impressive 200,000 lines of dialogue delivered by over 200 actors."
