  1. I agree with you but I really don't see any possible negative outcomes by this system. The worst that can happen is someone that is under geared tries to queue for a Hard Mode Denova and the LFG Tool stops him because of his gear. He can throw a fit about how he's entitled to do whatever content he wants, even at the expense of his group not being able to kill anything because of him, or he can realize that he needs to follow the same path everyone else did and get the right gear first to get up to that point. I think most people are going to go with the latter.
  2. This didn't become a discussion about gear score until people that can't read thought the OP was talking about gear score and got their panties in a bunch. This was a discussion about the LFG Tool not having a built in Gear Check(set by the developers that players can't even see except for the player queuing) that will check to see if the player has the minimum requirement of gear to queue for the Flashpoint/Operation and prevent them from queuing if they don't. That had nothing to do with elitists vs non elitists or anything of the sort, it is simply about making sure people are geared enough to queue for what they are queuing for so they aren't wasting people's time(like a fresh level 50 player in nothing but green quest gear queuing for HM Lost Island). Without it you'll see the same methods we use now, players will set the minimum requirements(usually higher than the actual minimal requirements because most people want smooth runs), inspect the players that are queued with them and kick/drop group accordingly if they aren't geared enough.
  3. No idea about the slots but from what they're saying about the legacy is that the characters with the higher legacy level will overwrite the ones with the lower legacy level so you'll have the higher level legacy on all your characters. Example: Legacy A is level 20 while Legacy B is level 10. You transfer your characters with Legacy A to a server where your characters have Legacy B. All your characters on that server would now have Legacy A, so they would all be Legacy level 20.
  4. The thing is you are not level 50 so you aren't running into any kind of DPS requirements that exist in this game yet. For Hardmode Flashpoints and all Operations there are enrage timers on bosses so you'll have to perform enough DPS to kill the boss before he enrages and kills your raid. For all of this content you will want to use an Assault Cannon or you will be gimping yourself and holding back your group just for the looks of your weapon, it is no different than a Mercenary that decides he wants to use 1 Pistol instead of Dual Wielding Pistols. You are right, there are SOME attacks that the Blaster Rifle will do the same damage as an Assault Cannon on. These attacks are the ones that don't take weapon damage into account and go off your tech stats instead(Grav Round, Demo Round). However there are other attacks that do take weapon damage into account(Full Auto, High Impact Bolt, Hammer Shot) and will cause you to do significantly less damage with a Blaster Rifle than an Assault Cannon(as Assault Cannons have significantly more min-max damage than Blaster Rifles of the same rating). In short you will need to use an Assault Cannon to get the most out of your damage which is your job in groups if you decided to go with a DPS spec. If you are planning on just playing alone or only doing content that doesn't have DPS requirements(like Dailies, Heroic Quests, leveling Quests/Flashpoints) then you can absolutely use nothing but a Blaster Rifle but if you are planning on doing endgame group content you should definitely be using an Assault Cannon.
  5. I don't see anyone here saying that you should have full Rakata to run a Tier 1 Hardmode Flashpoint, in fact the people that did say specifically what the requirement should be said the minimum. Anyone that expects their group to be in full Columi to complete a Tier 1 HM is an idiot, but that doesn't mean there still isn't a minimum requirement. Someone in level 40 quest gear at level 50 is NOT going to be useful in a HM and their group would have to compensate or replace him. There is no case in SWTOR's endgame where you "can't get gear because you don't have gear" that requires you to get carried to get your gear. There is a clear path to follow, if you are skipping steps then you are likely going to be under geared.
  6. This was never a discussion about 'gear scoring' it was a discussion about why there isn't a Gear Check in the LFG tool to stop players from queuing for content they are not geared enough for(a DPS in Tionese gear queuing for a Hardmode Lost Island for example). It should absolutely be set by the developers, and it should be the minimum gear required to effectively complete the instance in question. It is becoming a discussion about Gear Score and elitism because some people can't understand the concept that content in this game requires a minimal amount of gear to complete it and you don't just jump right into the hardest content with no gear.
  7. Last I checked, knowing *** you are doing isn't going to make your abilities hit harder to beat an enrage timer or increase your defenses and health so you don't get destroyed while tanking a boss. No matter how skilled of a player you are, you aren't going to jump right into a Hard Mode Denova or LI and be useful in any way with level 48 quest gear. People in this thread seem to be confusing an Automated Gear Check built into the LFG tool with a gear score add on. The Automated Gear Check can't be used as an elitist tool in any way shape or form, it's no different than barring a level 30 from queuing for level 50 warzones, all it does is bar from you queuing for certain flashpoints/operations if you do not meet the gear requirements set by the developers on what they feel is the minimum gear required to run the instance. This actually goes in the right direction AWAY from elitist gear requirements. Without a requirement you'll see people doing the same thing they do now, inspecting and deciding themselves if the person is geared enough or not to run the instance. There will be gear checks regardless because the endgame content requires gear to complete. The question is do you want an automated gear check set by the developers or do you want it in the hands of these "elitists" that you seem to hate so much like it currently is. There will still be people that kick people from groups for their gear regardless, but at least with this system the player knows they are geared enough and they are just being kicked because of some players that need people to be over geared for content.
  8. This! Thank you. Just because people feel entitled to doing content that they want to without having to put the effort in to get up to that level first doesn't mean that they should be able to at the expense of people that actually did put the effort in to get up to that level. And it is absolutely at the expense of the people that put the work in, if your gear isn't up to par with what the instance requires then they have to work harder to compensate for that fact and a lot of times, unless they are over gearing the instance, they simply can't do that and you just wasted everyone's time because you didn't want to put the work into getting the gear required first.
  9. Yeah that's why WoW's Gear Check is flawed imo. Rift's checked your attributes to see if they added up to the minimum the devs saw required to run the instance effectively for the role you have selected. For example you needed a let's say 100 Strength, 30 Attack Power, and 70 Endurance at least to run a Tier 1 Expert Dungeon as a Warrior(this isn't accurate, I haven't played Rift in quite a while now but you get the idea). Color of the gear or "item level" didn't matter at all when it came to queuing, so there is no point in having a terrible set of gear with high item level just to queue and another you wear in the instance since if you have the gear with the stats required to queue then you have good enough gear to run the instance anyway.
  10. Do you just not read what you doesn't fit your narrow minded "the elitists are out to get me" attitude? There are gear requirements on the content set by the DEVELOPERS not some random elitists. There are enrage timers, the bosses hit harder on different difficulties, there is more damage going out to the group on different difficulties, all of this is counted by GEAR. This isn't some big conspiracy to bar under geared players from content, this is how PvE progression works. You can't just ding 50 and jump right into a Hardmode Lost Island or Hardmode Denova. It is absolutely impossible for someone in fresh 50 questing gear to contribute in any useful way to a Hardmode Denova raid, you would end up needing to be carried, if that is even possible for HM Denova, meaning the rest of your raid would need to work even harder to compensate for your dead weight. How is that fair to everyone else in your raid just because you feel you are entitled to jump into whatever content you damn well please? You follow the intended path and work your way up to those instances, not just jump right into them and expect your group to carry you to your free loot. As someone else said, it won't make any more gear requirements that aren't already in place now. Without a group finder currently you would get removed from a group once they inspected you(some people will be nicer than others and at least explain why you are being kicked but you will still get kicked) if you try to join a group that is running a Hardmode Lost Island and you are in Tionese gear. That's not elitism, that is knowing the requirements of the instance and taking only people that meet the requirements. There absolutely needs to be a built in gear check in the LFG Tool(I personally liked Rift's gear check that checked to see if you had the minimum amount of stats it checked for on your selected role and class) that will bar players from queuing for content that they are not geared enough for. This will save groups a lot of time they would otherwise spend on inspecting/removing/replacing group members that aren't geared enough and remove the confrontation of under geared players joining groups that they can't effectively contribute in. This will of course also require that Bioware knows their own content and what gear requirements each Tier and Difficulty takes.
  11. Yeah, it made me lose what little faith I had left in Bioware unless they're playing one of their games and are keeping the real content in 1.3 a secret. So far all I'm getting is augment tables, server transfers, LFG Tool(Server-side only), and some more legacy crap. "All" of that is taking them over a month now(at least, we still haven't seen it on the PTS yet and that is at least on there for a week or 2), most of it doesn't even qualify to be in a content patch. Augment tables and the Legacy stuff could have been in 1.2. Server transfers and the LFG Tool should have been in since launch or at least an early patch, not 5 months into the game's life after you lose countless subscriptions. Yeah 1.3 is shaping up to be a great update . They didn't even mention Rated Warzones. I don't really care about Rated Warzones since I hate instanced PvP but they did pull right before 1.2 and haven't mentioned it since so if I was one of the players looking forward to them I would be very pissed if they weren't in 1.3 which it doesn't look like they will be. We get server transfers and a LFG Tool, great but that still doesn't change the fact that I'll still only be logging in for a few hours for a few nights a week to run an operation and then log because the only other alternatives are to sit in the fleet or level another alt.
  12. That has completely to do with animation imbalances not actual class mechanics but yes you're right. Other than some animation imbalances(which as far as I know they are still working on, they just fixed the BH/Trooper ones) the classes and their mirrors are 100% identical in gameplay, they are just different in cosmetics.
  13. You realize all the classes are identical mirrors right? Sith Inquisitor = Jedi Consular 100%.
  14. And what exactly are fanboys like you doing? Digging your head in the sand pretending absolutely nothing is wrong with the game? Pretending Bioware NEVER makes any mistakes and this game is made out of pure awesome with absolutely nothing at all wrong with it. SWTOR loses 400k subs and you simply tell them: "Meh, you didn't need them anyway!". This may come as a shock to you but they are in this to MAKE money. If they lose a number as big as 24% of their subscribers in just a 2 month period do you honestly think that the people in charge aren't going to want to take a step back and say they're doing something wrong? In terms of money they lost a potential $6,000,000 a month($15 x 400,000) with those 400k subs. People that do nothing but irrationally complain about the game are wrong, especially when they simply say "this game sucks" instead of explaining specifically what is wrong with it. On the other hand fanboys that claim absolutely nothing is wrong with the game are just as wrong because you are telling the developers that everything is OK and that they don't need to fix a single thing to keep normal people that aren't fanboys or complainers from playing the game.
  15. Yeah they are called fanboys. Also read the post in your sig when you posted it a few days ago and it just came across to me as the naive opinion of someone that hasn't been playing the game for very long or thinks that the game should have simple been a single player KoTOR 3 instead of an MMO.
  16. Yeah I'm starting to see that, there are some serious fanboys on these forums but this guy has his head so deep in the sand I'm afraid he can't breathe.
  17. 400k out of the what 1.7 million subscribers SWTOR had? That is ~24% drop of the game's subscribers and you don't think THAT is a significant loss? Are you that big of a fan boy that you can't see the problem there? That is a HUGE loss in subscribers over this short of a time and the fact is Bioware needs to majorly focus on damage control at this point or it will keep losing subs. I like this game(I have been playing since August when I got into beta), I want it to succeed but I find it extremely hard to log on any more aside from when my guild is raiding because there simply isn't anything to do. Warzones now take 10-30 minutes to pop on my server, and it is now near impossible to pug a Hardmode Flashpoint if I want to do one out of boredom due to the population. The devs do not only need to fix the population spread but they also need to start working on content we can do when we aren't raiding because at the moment all I am subbing for is because I enjoy the raids and the rest of the week I just play other games and I know the majority of the people I play with are doing the exact same.
  18. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is an awesome game. It is a pretty standard MMO that is great in some places and absolutely terrible in others. The main problem now is that Bioware made way too many servers and after the initial wave of people quitting the game(which is to be expected if you look at any over-hyped MMO launch) and what is left of SWTOR's subscribers are completely spread out among these servers causing a lot of dead servers(was checking for level 50s during prime time last night and there were 22 total online in the entire Republic faction, for being 5 months into the game that is BAD, and my server isn't even near one of the least populated ones). The game will continue to bleed subscriptions faster and faster the longer it takes Bioware to swallow their pride and fix the server issues making it so that we have far less servers so the game actually feels like other people are playing it if you weren't lucky enough to start on Fatman or one of the other few lucky servers.
  19. How can it get cheaper than 0 credits? You don't need to remove the mods inside the weapon to put new ones in, you can simply "buy" mods with planetary commendations from questing and put them in your orange weapon without costing you a single credit.
  20. Guardian - Shield Generator and a Focus Sage - Focus
  21. I would form your own opinion on it. Personally I thought Act 1 was great but Acts 2 and 3 felt generic and extremely boring to me.
  22. I do it with my healing companion, although she is in full Rakata gear. Also interrupting and not standing in stupid crap goes a long way in reducing the AOE damage in this fight.
  23. There was a thread about this before the forum wipe pre-launch as well. The reasoning they gave if I remember correctly was that even though it a major language in the World, it is NOT a major language for this genre of Online Gaming. I believe they said they would eventually work on adding more languages later on but I am pretty sure they have a lot more important things to be working on right now like trying to manage how what is left of their subscribers being spread out through way too many servers causing the game to feel dead and unplayable on most of them.
  24. The crafted epic gear I was referring to is the Reverse Engineered Epic gear that Amormechs and Synthweavers sometimes make if they spend time reverse engineering green schematics all the way up to purple. It is much easier and cheaper just to do your Ilum/Belsavis/Corellia dailies than worry about this, especially because you'll just replace it pretty fast and then it's worthless. As for your Rakata crafted pieces, those are the best you can get until you get Black Hole or Campaign belt/bracers, especially if you crit them and got an augment slot. As for the Tionese/Columi question, no they require PvE commendations/tokens. You'll get these from doing Hardmode Flashpoints and Operations.
  25. No, Orange Augmented Gear is only the best for you in 2 situations for PvE. First before you start getting Tionese/Columi gear. Second when you start getting Campaign gear and can move the Armoring that is holding the set bonus into the Augmented Orange Gear. I guess also if your set bonus is absolutely terrible but I don't know of any that are worth completely dropping.
