  1. Tactics is just fine for lvling, just that it requires different skillsets. Tactics beats elites when lvling by making sure you use your interrupts (since you have so little cooldown with it) and pulse cannon/pulse generator cone of fire. If you do it correctly it is not hard at all. Assault beats elites by using LoS shoot, dodge and long range kiting. So just different strategies.

    Battle Stealth B.S.

Not only that, well played vanguard and powertech can easily negate any advantage stealthies have. If you never played Van/PT you don't realise how often you detect the presence of stealth without using any abilities - it is just a question of who's quicker. Not only that, shield spec has the ability to AoE detect stealth and stun them upon detection (no this is not 2 abilities, this is a single ability), not to mention that pyrotech/assault spec pretty much make sure that stealthies have very little chance of stealthing again for very long (because of the constant plasma/flame DoT which is also effectively a snare). If you have trouble with stealthies, play teamwork and stick close to a vanguard/powertech.
  3. Yeah 5 stacked Pulse Gen Pulse Cannon damage is pretty unstoppable. 10/31/0 or 0/31/10's problem always was not in the spec itself but in the gear. If you have the gear for it instant attacks + pulse gen stacking + HiB crit can easily add up to more damage. However when you don't have gear for it yet you will have to rely more on longer range kite and assault DoT to be more successful and helpful to others in WZ though (as 30m DoTs can easily prevent an objective cap).
  4. 1v1? I am never worry about ammo in 1v1. Especially against SW - since SW themselves can't heal they are not really endurance fighters without a healer. Ion pulse spam is almost a must in 1v1 anyways if for nothing but to build Pulse Generator (since you are talking about Tactics tree). If you find yourself a bit low just switch to hammer shots for a few seconds. 1 recharge cells should be all that's ever required in 1v1. If I can't kill them still after 1 recharge cell, chances are they outgear me and I won't likely to win anyways. My thought is always that plasma cell is a lot more ideal in pvp if you are not planning to go tank spec for pvp and protect other people as a priority. DoTs of plasma cell are effective in pvp for a variety of reasons (DoT prevents caps of points, DoT slows, DoT increases other instant attacks' damage in Assault spec, DoT enables HiB, etc just to name a few)
  5. It is very hard to kite a sith warrior with 8/31/2 talents, that's the problem. You have to dive back in for stockstrike everytime you have to kite, and it is has cooldown. When I was doing tactics I always go 0/31/10. Kiting with ion pulse is a lot easier than with stockstrike. Ion pulse has no cooldown and has 10 mins range. You can spam it . With Hold the Line you can easily run circles around a SW. You can kite even better using Assault spec as assault spec lets you start the snaring from 30m out. They can't even run away if they are in trouble.
  6. Got nothing to do with "players on which side", it is the company store syndrome - which means that whichever side has more 50 and winning at the early stage of the game (like a week or 2 ago) in pvp has the advantage because they get the pvp gears earlier and thus increasing their win margin. All the while it becames harder and harder for the republic pvpers on most server to chase up because they are falling behind in gear due to lack of points. It needs to be more like WAR where the side that is significantly losing needs to be given a faction-wide buff so that they have a chance to break out of the runt. Pvp at this stage is all about gear.
  7. You are most likely got ganked by a guy in superior gears. You will never be so soft against a Operative of equal gear to you. In fact, operatives often times have difficulties against Vanguards of equal gear lvl because they couldn't get away from us (constant DoT snares as well as stealth detection and detection stun if you are specced for it).
  8. I don't know why people likes to pick Gut personally. I guess for shield spec it is one of the few method of DoTs available so you can proc HiB. For other specs it is not very ammo effective, and not even necessary (I can do the same thing with ion pulse specced for guarrantee plasma cell proc in assault and it will be better off since I can spec the snare as well, that's like killing 3 birds with 1 stone - elemental DoT+snare+proc HiB all for a unified ammo cost).
  9. Actually if assault spec, one would be better off using incendiary round. With incendiary round that person cannot cap things again for the next 18 secs, so even if I die fighting they will still not be able to cap the point for the next 18 secs, which by that time hopefully someone else arrives to help defend (which often does happen).
  10. Vanguard has always been an exciting class to me. I think key thing to remember is that vanguard is a kiting class, but not kiting in the hunter sense. The strategy mostly revolve around kiting away and then diving back in when stockstrike is up etc. another words constantly slingshoting your opponents. It is at these moments of close encounters during the slingshots that your damage to enemy is greatest, and when you slingshot away is when you conserve ammo and recover, and only use DoT/HiB/low or no ammo consumption abilities.
  11. Actually it is very easily for Vanguards to solo some elites and champions - for some of those melee boss you can kite them around using plasma cell slow (for assault or tactics/assault spec) and we'll receive very little damage. For the cast time elites and champions if you time and use all your interrupts you will also receive very little damage because they will be unable to do anythign big. For the range commando type of elites/bosses you can also keep on popping in and out of LOS and dot them and receive little damage. Whether these methods are possible to pull off an a given circumstances actually depend on how many elites there are and how much space you got to work with more than anything.
  12. ^ Truth. I never had a problem with Operatives or Sorcerers in equal or lesser gear to me. It is the one that have fully decked out pvp gears that I have issues with... but than again, if they are fully decked out than their base stats will be way above me anyways without counting in expertise. So stands to reason that they beat me by a good margin. I think some people do not realise that the artifact pvp gears actually has stats way over any gears that you'll get beforehand. You can only start considering the question of overpowered-ness if you get beaten by another class that have lesser gear/level in 1v1 contest consistently by a large margin. Even we need to look at your abilities rotation to see if you are actually doing something wrong.
  13. All the problems arises from the gear and level disparity in WZ. It doesn't even have to do with the class abilities themselves. I've seen geared powertech or juggernaut equally as deadly as Operative with gear, and what's worse is they are nigh unkillable even ewithout need of stealth. Gears on tanking class scale up in power and survivability even more ridiculously then other classes. You are looking at the wrong things to blame OP.
  14. You can get that same model from the pvp one at lvl 36 as well. It is called Frontline Defense Rifle
  15. Both of those abilities gets totally useless later on if you go down assault path - incendiary round -> HiB combos pops so often, and assault plastique does so much damage that there is no need to use explosive round and ion pulse for +10m range single target damage. It is the 2 abilities that I am contemplating removing now and instead put taunt keys much closer to my keymapping (since taunt is even useful in pvp) If you are Tactics though you might still need those 2 abilities, since at range tactics doesn't really have any proper starters besides harpoon.
  16. Commandos don't tank. It is either dps or healing, which means OP should either pick Dorne or Forex I think for the best effect (or even Vik, I'm not sure how tanky Vik can be though)
  17. Which is fine, because commandos don't tank either. So it is pretty spot on.
  18. People who are afk farming are anything BUT pvping
  19. I think it is more likely a cast of "doing it wrong" more than gear and lvl. Sure it is harder, but I've never had experiences of getting kill that fast. You gotta remember though, trooper's best range is NOT actually melee, it is actually 10m. 10m is where you deny your opponent's attacks and maximizes your own.
  20. This. Same reason here. There is a reason why SI and Operatives are QQing about vanguards, not commandos, lol. Mobility and instacast is king in pvp, and is useful in pve too against mobs that has a lot of channelling attacks.
  21. Nah I think it is because... That seems to be the case anyways in both my playthroughs, so I think that's how it works.
  22. Sorry confused. Are you saying something regarding my comment? I was mentioning that he was lying about his SWG rolling-for-whatever-he-wants thing, which I was pointing out is a blatant lie because pre-cu SWG is all about crafted items.
  23. Don't need proof, because once again you are clearly providing false information. Pre-cu SWG is NOT loot based economy. It is resource gathering and manufacturing based. There are no perm items. All good gears are manufactured. So your reputation is not based on loot stealing. Funny you mention that you did that in SWG which is not a loot based mmo but not in WoW or LoTRO or WAR, which are all loot based mmos. Kinda kills the whole point of your post, lol.
  24. Nice try. You don't get ostracized is because you don't really raid for anything in SWG. Pre-exodus SWG is manfacturing based economy. There are no BoP items. Everyone that is getting things are all manfacturers. So it is totally different. Try being a seller of inferior goods or scammer in SWG and see how fast your reputation goes down. Lol.
  25. Not sure if maybe some part of the game population is too young to understand the concept, but the value of professional networking, as you learn from your working life, is greater than the value of instant greed. Networking opens you up to more opportunities in the future, while instant greed might result in you being hated and loses opportunities for more money. You'll find that a lot of successful professionals and businessman goes by this concept. Same goes for in MMO. If not just for common courtesy, there is a certain amount of goodwill that you can build up by deferring things that your toon don't need, and asking people before you need for companion or mods only. Gears is easy to get. Reputation, however, is not. Bad reputation carries with you for as long as you use your name (toon's name).
