The choice that wins the roll will dictate the path of the quest/story but whatever personal choice you made you'll get the LS/DS points for depending on what you picked and regardless of what won.

I wouldn't say consistent, it was up for a week, was just taken down again a day or two ago. I'm not sure how it's ridiculous either. Inconvenient, sure, but not really ridiculous.

Your alignment is a total of your darkside (negative) and lightside (positive). So it's impossible to be both at once. There are heroics, flashpoints and dailies to do to up your Alignment

Depends on if you're using Vista/Win7 or XP it's under whichever form of My Documents though. Whether it's actually MyDocuments?SWTOR on XP or Users/Name/Documents/SWTOR

WoW had competition. City of Heroes came out in 2004, Anarchy Online was out, DAOC, EVE, EQ, EQII, Gemstone and Dragonrealms (some might not consider these but it was what I was playing instead of WoW), Final Fantasy XI, Lineage II, SWG, UO and probably more I'm missing but there was plenty of competition.

What you don't seem to understand that with a game of this size that's impossible. It would take YEARS longer to do internal testing or even beta testing to get to the point of "polish" that some people seem to expect and that's just not reasonable. The only way to flush out some of these bugs is to have a released environment. The majority of people understand and accept this. As has been pointed out by many people this game is a lot more polished than most games at release even though some people don't want to believe it.

How do you propose they fix something like this? They can't force people to roll on the republic. Limiting the number of people allowed on Ilum would be a bad idea so what can they do?

You were just getting side ones that you would normally pick up along side the main bonus series quests. It's not a big deal you'll just be revisiting some areas if you already did them and decide to do the Alderaan bonus series.

You don't get the Alderaan quest until around level 40 as you noticed and you pick it up on the Fleet. This is the notable exception as it's not picked up in the spaceport or at level. Nar Shadda and Belsavis also have Bonus Series missions that aren't done immediately after the planet but you still get them in the spaceports.

Yeah a manual that explains everything he wants would be the size of a dictionary or bigger. The manual that's online is fairly standard as far as manuals go.

The only time I've ever seen a quote button on a "locked thread" was when the mods locked it between the time i opened it and hit quote The search button doesn't magically disappear, it was disabled for a time and is again.

The quote button is ALWAYS gone if it's locked. If you're seeing it when you're reading through it's because it hasn't been locked yet.

If the quote option is gone it's locked. Not sure why this thread is in the new player help forum, did it get moved here? The forums are fine the way they are. Could there be more functionality?
