  1. Couldn't agree more. If the average gear rating is based on an unweighted average calculation it will do more harm than good. I'm afraid that's exactly what's going to happen for HM and MM content since there's no bolster in them. Groups forming for HM and NiM operations will probably start asking players to provide both links to achievements for completing them and average gear rating. It's definitely possible to clear all MM flashpoints without full 242 gear. Many of them can be cleared with Tier 1 or possibly even lower gear, so the 242 minimum gear rating shouldn't apply to them. However, I would expect that introduction of a universal 242 minimum gear requirement would result in people who do not meet it forming groups before queuing as a way of getting around it. However, that undermines the very purpose of having MM flashpoints in GF. Based on my own experience doing MM flashpoints via gf, with the exception of Blood Hunt, Lost Island and maybe the droid boss on Korriban, the reason behind failing to clear a boss is people not knowing their classes or what to do well enough rather than their gear.
  2. Is the learning curve too steep to get into? It would be great if the tutorial included some form of moving target practice. A lot of my guildies couldn't really get into GSF because they couldn't wrap their heads around aiming even after reading or hearing what to do. Would be nice if they and other people like them could practice without being shot at. Matchmaking issues? I love domination, but if I've been in way too many Gunships vs Gunships TDM matches on the Red Eclipse, maybe with the odd 1-2 scout(s) and a bomber to drop repair drones. If you get two evenly matched teams it usually ends with neither one of them getting 50 kills before the timer runs out. I've even been in matches where the winning team didn't even hit 30 kills. TDM should force people to move around. One way to do it is to follow the example of competitive mods in FPS games which restrict the number of players per class in a team. The fact that GSF is character based and not Legacy? I wouldn't make it legacy, but Imp/Pub based. It kinda makes sense for all your characters to share a hangar. However, now that the upgrade costs have been significantly lowered I don't think GSF being character based is a major issue.
  3. Good for you. However, I couldn't care less even if you could kill 12 gunships with a stock ship. Not really a discussion I'm interested in. . Where did I complain about ship unfairness or blame 'the tools'? What I complained about was the possibility of ending up in a TDM match where you have two teams of gunships barely moving from their little nests and simply testing each others' patience. A TDM match shouldn't end with the winning team not even getting 40 kills before time lapses. Coming from a competitive FPS background, it just seems profoundly weird and would get addressed in the first competitive mod. Teams should be 'forced' to charge towards each other in both TDM and Domination. Sitting behind the same rock for 15 minutes as a team is obviously not an option in the latter, but I've seen it done too many times in TDM.
  4. Thank you for explaining the obvious way to kill gunships, I'm sure none of us knew of it! Good luck trying that when you have a team of 5+ gunships in an 8v8 match positioned in a way that allows them to cover pretty much every direction you can approach them from. Unless some idiot strays away from the pack too far you're gonna get picked up either on the approach or when making an escape. It won't be an arcing angle for everyone.
  5. One thing I would love to see in GSF is a cap on the number of gunships per team. It's not really a problem in domination since people need to move around the entire map, but TDM... Two teams of mostly gunships hiding on opposite sites of the same big rock/space ship and waiting to shoot down those 1-2 players on the other team who simply refuse to drop that low... Facing the same group of camptertards in the subsequent domination pop and watching them fail miserably is nowhere near enough to make up for the fact that you had to endure a TDM that ended only because the time ran out.
  6. There's nothing broken in this game... it simply has a lot of questionable features.
  7. Couldn't agree more since it was that boost that got me into GSF.
  8. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but the intertitles in my mind read a bit differently from the trailer itself... May the 4th be with you.
  9. Those frames look like something from the Ilum story arc. However, I don't recall Malgus leading a charge at any point. Might be wrong though.
  10. Bug: Pre-5.2. CXP Tier 3 Boost not working Attempting to use the pre-5.2. CXP boost ends in the following prompt: "Requires Command Rank 180-300". The character I was on when I spotted this had already reached Command Rank 300. It did not not have the CXP boost buff when 5.2. dropped. I have another Command Rank 300 character that was buffed at the time of update. I'll edit this post once its buff expires to let you know if it's also affected.
  11. That's because customer service is still in beta. They're great at restoring characters, items people have removed and solving payment-related issues, but when it comes to more unusual or, even worse, technical issues you might as well consult a magic 8-ball. The last time I had to deal with CS I explained in the ticket about server-side lag that I had run /tracert and pointed out exactly where the problem was. In return I got a link asking me to run /tracert...
  12. A maintenance window that's suitable for Europeans... What have you been smoking?
  13. Usually the number of streams would spike in the run-up to a major update not after it drops, which is what happened with the shambles called 5.0. There's a big difference there. I never said interacting with the community was not part of a Community Manager's job description. I simply pointed out that as with all forms of management, the idea is to exercise some from of influence, not necessarily control, in order to realise commercial objectives. Ultimately, a Community Manager's performance will be assessed on the basis of how he contributed to the attainment of the organisation's commercial goals and nothing else.
  14. The only reason why we had so many streams after 5.0 dropped was crisis containment. They realised how infuriated people were with the RNG-and-grind fest that came with GC and had to make it look like they were working on improvements to prevent people from abandoning ship. There's a reason why Musco's job title is Community Manager and not Community BFF. With a few servings of talking heads and a green screen he managed to bring customer dissatisfaction down to tolerable levels. The problem has been solved so there's no point in continuing the treatment.
  15. If you're new to the game they're quite a nice way to get some of the older gear. Other than that, you're better off selling them on GTN.
  16. Any warzone or arena that involves some PvP-guild douche with an over-inflated ego leaving because he had his *** handed to him by someone who was still in PvE utilities.
  17. Find a guild that regularly runs Story Mode Ops intended specifically for newcomers. You'll be able to learn the mechanics without the risk of someone throwing a tantrum over someone not knowing the tactics, which can happen when you team up with a bunch of strangers from Fleet chat or join via Group Finder. If you happen to play on the Red Eclipse, my guild runs newcomer Ops two nights a week - one day on LS, one on DS. If you're interested in giving it ago feel free to send me a PM.
  18. In arenas you can click on their name in the team roster window to target that player. Switching targets (default hotkey: TAB) is another option. However, I think the character must be in your line of sight for it to work.
  19. Slightly over a month ago I started experiencing unplayable levels of lag during peak times (i.e. between 8 pm and 9 pm GMT). In many cases this would end in me getting disconnected from the server - The Red Eclipse, to be exact. The issue would generally resolve itself within 15-30 minutes. While not a major problem, it obviously had a knock-on effect on everyone raiding with me. To determine the location of the problem I ran traceroute multiple times. Comparing traces from when I was experiencing the issue and when my connection to the server was acting normally indicated that the issue was on Telia.net servers (i.e. BW's end) - latency on two Telia.net hops was all over the place. I submitted a ticket that was more detailed than the above description. What I got in return was a true copy & paste joke of an answer. One suggestion involved corrupted game files... I guess game files can be corrupted in way that makes the game throw a tantrum at a particular time of day. Another 'suggestion' was a link to a thread on the EA Customer Support website which, among others, contained instructions on how to run a traceroute...
  20. This won't solve your problem, but to make sure the issue is on BW's side, open your command prompt and type: tracert 159.153.72.252. This will allow you to determine the location of the problem (i.e. is it your ISP or indeed BW). Having that information might be useful if you're planning to start a ticket to customer services and would like to get more help than some ****** from customer services just copying and pasting a useless, generic solution.
  21. Is the lag permanent or do you only get it during a particular time of day?
  22. Just replying to this thread so that it returns to the first page. Hopefully, at least one of the devs will notice that we want them back. Hell, now that they're putting platinum items on direct sale, maybe do the same with certificates? They have become exceptionally rare. If they started selling them directly at a decent price as bind on pick-up items, they'd have a new golden goose.
  23. Indeed, that would be a great idea... if only I had not tried that before and did not find an answer to the specific question I was asking... The threads and the CS replies pasted in them dealt with questions along the lines of 'Why is SWToR not available in China?' rather than whether use of VPN is permitted. I'd really like to know the official answer to this specific question since I've played games where using VPN was not allowed on grounds related to policing cheating.
  24. I'll be in mainland China for the next three weeks. To the best of my knowledge the game is not supported in this location (i.e. the login service blocks all mainland Chinese IPs). However, I have access to a UK-based VPN that would allow me to login. The delay would probably make the game virtually unplayable, but at least I'd be able to carry on the good work of supplying the galaxy with armorings, relics and other much needed items at affordable prices. However, before I attempt to do this, I would like to know the answer to the following question: Is playing the game via VPN from an unsupported location a violation of the terms of service? Much appreciated.
  25. There's a small room in the Alliance base on Odessen, just before the room with Hylo Visz. On the right-hand side there is a terminal that allows you to bring back companions that have died/buggered off in course of the KotFE/KotET story.
