  1. Did I say that the first 20 games are a good representation of skill? No. I said in the long run good players tend to win more often than bad players. If you are really really bad, you can't just continue to play bad over 600 games and miraculously hit 1500. If you play well, you will win more. It's that simple. Are there flaws in the system? Of course. The relevance of the first 10 games towards your final rating is way too high. But still, winning is a good representation of skill. For sure there are a lot of people that queue sync. They're all douchebags. Everyone knows who they are. It sucks that they don't get punished. If you run into them, it's ****** but you either have to switch factions, or find something else to do for a while. If the best players have the highest elo's, then the system generally works. It's harder to accurately determine the skill level of mid-range players, because they're usually so close in skill. I agree with you that at the mid-range, the biggest determinant of your elo is luck. Unfortunate, i don't see how it can be fixed. If players want a higher elo, you just have to play better
  2. Sorry to burst all your bubbles, but in the end winning is a very accurate measure of skill relative to other players. I've played a lot with players at the top of the leaderboards, and generally they are the best players doing solo queue. Bad players are almost always towards the bottom end of the leaderboards. Of course, there are exceptions, but rarely. There is a psychological phenomenon that happens a lot in poker where poker players tend to blame the entirety of their losses on "Bad-beats", a.k.a. getting unlucky. What they also tend to do, is to forget all the hands they should have folded, all the potential bets they missed, and all the other hands they misplayed. The same thing applies to solo queue. Everyone gets stuck with bad players. Everyone has good rounds. The difference between players with high elo and those without it is that players with high-elo play well (better than average), every single round. When focused they survive, they do the maximum damage possible, and allow their team mates to do the rest. Bad players get nuked, do 0 damage, and blame their team mates for not focusing. I get people get frustrated about getting stuck with bads, but if you improve, the rating will come.
  3. It's as simple as that. Especially when there are cross faction queues happening. All this does is guarantee a loss for whichever side gets the baddie. I truly hate the matchmaking system you guys are using BioWare. Please stop the no skill, queue dodging, luck box awfulness that solo ranked has become.
  4. it's a down right gypsy rave
  5. BioWare PLEASE. Gut pot5 now. The server is a cess pool of obnoxious trolls, queue syncing pubs, and the bad memories of every decent player who was smart enough to move to another server. 0/5 arenas played tonight have had more than 2 imperial players above 1200 elo. Nuke this server into oblivion. Bury it, cremate it, do whatever you have to do to let it die with a little dignity. If you let this continue, soon it's going to just be crushers queue syncing against 500 elo trolls with no advanced class. This would make them the happiest players in the world. We just can't have that.
  6. I have to imagine this would be a simple fix BW. When your terms of service allow for players to queue for the highest level of player vs player competition without an advanced class, it's time to change your terms of service. Either make a class a requirement, actually do something about trolls, or watch more players leave.
  7. I can't believe I'm saying this but bastion is for sure better than pot5 now. pot5 is long dead. Between the trolls and the absolute lack of good players who play consistently it's just awful. 99.9999% of all solo ranked arenas consist of at least 1 troll/sub 700 elo player. There's not point to that. All that boils down to is whoever doesn't have the terribad wins. Add queue syncing and it's a terrible place. My main's moved already
  8. Bastion > pot5 whaaaaaaaaatt??? Sad but true
  9. Open world pvp would have been sweet. Even small incentives would have made the pvp so much more dynamic. There is so much they could have done to make this game an amazing OWPVP experience. It's Star Wars ffs. There should be massive battles on a galactic scale that have some kind of meaning. Not death matches for the entertainment of some hutt. If only BW cared about pvp.
  10. This is my second toon that is suffering from ELO distortion, a chronic disease effecting upwards of 50% of the ranked population. This disease is characterized by winning records with sub 1200 elo, minimal gains for victories, and absurd amounts of elo lost for all loses, despite given factors. Admitted as evidence subject A, suffering from ELO distortion: http://farshidenearshide.imgur.com/all/ Admitted as evidence subject B, suffering from inverse ELO distortion: http://i.imgur.com/fLHEjIP.jpg (gimme my tier 1 awards plsss drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) Admitted as evidence, item K, my personal favorite, elo working as intended. Note the 8th spot missing on the defeat screen. Evidence that this was not only a 3v4, but that it began as a 3v4, and ended as a 3v4. Note the -16 elo. I'm sure this is working as intended: http://i.imgur.com/r0tjnWR.jpg It's up to us to convince The Power (BioWare), that ELO distortion is a chronic disease effecting a large portion of the population. Only you have the power.
  11. (sits down in front porch rocking chair as the wind blows a steady breeze) As the pvp population slowly dwindles down and ranked becomes more and more a thing of the past, let's take this opportunity to sit back and imagine just how fun the game could have been if BioWare had taken even the slightest bit of interest in the pvp community. If Only: - BioWare hadn't lied to us about having cross-server queues for season 1. Pvp would have thrived. I really do enjoy the pvp in this game, and the fact that it's a Star Wars (best fictional universe all-time imo) game with damn good graphics and animation was the perfect combination of fun, competition and casual. If only they had followed through on what they promised, all the best teams from pot5 and the Bastion could be squaring off right now, guild from Jung Ma would be saying gg to team from Harginer, and no one would have to suffer cyber rug burn from shuffling their toons from one server to the next, trying to find decent pvp action. if Only: - The devs had cared enough to make a post every now and then. 90% of all the rage posted on the forums is generated because people feel like they're yelling into the wind, so the tendency is to scream even louder, hoping someone will hear you. But that's impossible if no one is listening. Once or twice a week, 5 minutes out of a devs day to drop a single comment. Ahhh would have been so nice to feel like anyone besides the players cared about the actual game. If Only: - If only the dev team hadn't decided to open their big fat mouths and drop the single most damaging piece of forum literature ever posted. The infamous Musco post that lay bare the absolute apathy the devs had for pvp was the final straw that broke the camel's back for soo many pvpers. Would it have been better to keep them in the dark instead of revealing your master plan to do absolutely nothing for the foreseen future? I think so, but that's a selfish answer. In making the posts the devs exposed their hand and pushed everyone on the fence to greener pastures. For those of us left who enjoyed the game enough to stay, that post functioned only to reduce the fun we were having with other players doing pvp by taking half of them away. Those are my top 3 if onlys. If you feel like kicking back and taking a stroll down hypothetical lane with me I'll bring the beers.
  12. swtor ELO is another massive failure on BW's part, right up there with illum and bolster. I can't believe they settled on such a poorly designed system, that gives massive returns on getting lucky your first 10 arenas and then is totally skewed for the rest. This does nothing but dissuade players who feel their elo deficit is too much to overcome from ever trying ranked again. And they would be absolutely justified in feeling that way. The major problem seems to be, as was pointed out earlier, that having one really really good player is not as valuable as it is NOT to have a really really bad player, if that makes sense. In other words bad players do much more to effect a 4 man squad negatively than a good player does to improve it. The system does not currently weigh elo distribution with this in consideration, which is why so many players feel they lose excessively large amount for loses, and why there are so many players with winning records but sub 1200 elo.
  13. This is why we needed actual tiers. at least 3 tiers, 1400+, 1000-1399, and 1000-. If a queue is taking more than 10 minutes to pop the queue matches you with players in a tier 1 tier away from yours but NEVER 2. This would clear up so many of the complaints upper level players are having and would completely eliminate the trolling problem going on on all servers. And if it doesn't pop, then it doesn't pop. I would rather not play than be queued with a troll. Of course the game is already dead and one should never speak ill of the dead. If the infamous Musco post has taught us anything, it's that pvp and the pvp community don't matter to these people. We have to take it or leave it.
  14. Though I do believe I've seen instances of lag switching this does not fit the mold. This looks like good old fashioned lag. If you ever see players teleporting around, while the rest of the players seem to be behaving normally, that might lag switching. I remember one time I was stealthed on my sin in a 1v1 against another sin and we were both waiting for acid. To my perspective it looked like nothing was happening, then all of a sudden I was instantly down to 25%, the player was on his 3rd or 4th move in the rotation, and there was nothing I could do. I know the obvious answer is "ohh you're bad, he's a sin, duuuhhh that's what they do". Playing a sin myself I know the difference between being opened on, and having the relationship between server and client be so off that it was most likely artificially manipulated. So i think it does happen but that video isn't it
  15. the "devs" don't exist. The entire swtor development team consists of one stoned gerbil that watches youtube all day. Upcoming content supposed to be super duper.
  16. BioFail, honestly, get just one aspect of pvp right. Please. There is no point to elo when players with 1600 ratings are getting paired with players with 600 ratings consistently. Why is there even elo in the first place? Why the **** did you even bother to implement it? I imagine your strategy for pvp development goes something like this: 1. Tell players that a vital aspect of the game exists and is working as intended. Aspects like Bolster, elo, and matchmaking. 2. Make sure the functionality of these aspects are kept 100% hidden from the players, as to allow for plausible deniability when players start to realize you haven't actually given an ounce of time or effort into them and just put whatever ******** is easiest for you to create. 3. Do absolutely nothing when there is community backlash. 4. profit. How do I apply for a developer job at BioWare?
  17. https://forums.wildstar-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/77341-mass-exodus-of-pvprs-the-swtor-effect/ This made me pee my pants from laughter. I then ****** in my pants out of pure unmitigated satisfaction. lol @ djcerta If swtor is dead, at least it lived for a few years. How long was WildStar around, two weeks? GG NT WildStar.
  18. You're close to the right idea but not quite there. What you really want to do is use it as a "baddies" list. If ever you encounter a true ******* you add him to your friends list. That way, you can keep track of all the terribads and do your best to avoid them.
  19. If you're playing regs are someone is being an ******e then that player is just an ******e. But if you decide to venture into ranked and make basic mistakes that should have been ironed out many many warzones ago you deserve to be chewed out. It doesn't matter how nice of a person you are, when you decide to step up into the ranked arena where your performance directly effects the tracked and public statistics of other players, you step into a world of accountability. If you play bad, you deserve to be called out on it. IMO competition is competition is competition. If you want to play for fun, stay in regs.
  20. 1. The Leaderboards are a Disaster - Half the time they flat out don't update, like right now for instance. They haven't updated in a week. The rest of the time they are simply bad. 99% of all elo graphs are either a line that shoots straight up and flatlines or a line that shoots straight down and flatlines. Why the devs decided to show only two weeks of progress rather than the entire season is beyond me, and that fact that they got it wrong is such a blatant display of not caring it's offensive. 2. Absolutely No Feedback From Devs - Honestly I don't understand how dev involvement can be so minimal. All it would take is one dev to take 5 minutes out of his schedule once a week to quell a ton of anger and frustration. Just one sentence in the most responded to thread of the week would change the entire way the devs are perceived, and would do wonders for the pvp community. Sad that it hasn't been policy from the start 3. Elo and Matchmaking Need to be Adjusted - This is by far the most complained about issue. No one likes losing 33% more for every loss than they gain for every win. Maybe they tweaked something to do with elo between seasons, because there has been a 20% drop in terms of percentage of players who do arenas that are over 1500 this season. And we all know matchmaking is a disaster. I would rather wait an extra 5-10 minutes than get stuck in an arena with 1 player so far below the rest of the players that having him on your team is a guaranteed loss. In a long dead thread in a faaaaar away time I once got a response from the devs about elo. They said that screen shots of two toons with essentially the same record, both with 12 more wins than loses, one with an 1148 elo and one with a 1430 elo was not enough evidence that something is wrong. Can I have your job please? I want to be able to call my mistakes not mistakes and have that be fine too. All these things are fairly small issues by themselves. But every patch the small things tend to add up. The Major Suckage continues.
  21. Lol Why the **** would I read this entire thread. You would have to be some kind of psychopath to sit down the read the entire wall of blithering non-sense you tend to include in a single post. I saw that one mountain of a post you wrote. Guess how many people actually read it? I'll just tell you. 0. 0 people. These are the SWTOR forums, not the venue for your dissertation. I now honestly hope that WildStar fails somehow. I'm sure it's a fine game and has its merits. But it would be worth it to watch your fragile little psyche collapse into the vacuum of your own insanity. Djcetra if you bruised any more easily I'd call you a peach.
  22. A poll taken the first month after launch? Gee super duper credible especially since you'd expect most people to shell out $60 and then insta quit. It's hilarious how important it is for you to prove to everyone here that your new hobby has merit. Clearly you're making massive headway. By continuing to rant on these forums you're just proving that your entire WildStar experience will exist beneath SWTOR's shadow.
  23. Lol no one is "betting" against Wildstar. I don't think anyone here really gives two ***** about WildStar. We just want WildStar fanbois like yourself to stop trolling our threads. Go back to your cartoon hell that looks like some poor autistic child was put in charge of art direction for a looney toons skit. Oh and have fun in Battlegrounds. I hear if you're lucky you might actually have a real person on your team instead of a bot.
