  1. If you go with a shadow/Assassin in the tank tree, you can go one handed and only miss out on a couple of abilities. I tried it once just for giggles to see if it would work. The other two trees have specials that require the double bladed saber. As far as activating the form, just equip a double bladed saber to activate, and switch to the single saber. You still gain the benefits. I would like a pathway for the shadow/assassin or the Sage/Sorcerer that is a blend of force powers and martial skill, but only uses a one handed saber.
  2. I agree that Dooku and Vader are being underestimated. Dooku is a form 2 master, a style that specializes in Saber to Saber combat. That and his mastery over the Force would allow him to hold his own against Nox or the Wrath. Also, he's a brilliant strategist, so he wouldn't be caught without a trick or two up his sleeve. Only a handful of Force users were his equal or better: Yoda, Anakin, and the Emperor. Vader is a form 5 master who even developed his own one handed variant that incorporated elements of Form 2 & Form 3 into a very intimidating and powerful style. While he may have been inhibited some with his cybernetics in what he could do with the force, the cybernetics themselves allowed him to make up the difference. He could cast Force Lightning, but the Cybernetics would short out. His armor was specifically designed to enhance his augmented strength he gained from the cybernetics. He wasn't clumsy or slow. He was actually quite agile once he got used to the cybernetics. Combine all that with the wisdom of age, and you have a very powerful foe to go against. Personally, I think he would be able to wipe the floor with the Wrath, and ***** slap Nox into submission.
  3. My first Sith Inquisitor was lightsided. I got to thinking about something that was said in a mission: "only negative emotions lead to the dark side, but the Jedi forbid all emotion." So, I got to thinking, what if a Sith could channel passion, but in a positive way. There's no rule that says that Passion must be anger, fear, or hate. I also paid attention to what Yoda said. "Anger, fear, aggression, the dark side are they." So, my light sided sith still channeled passion and used her passion to drive her, but she was careful about getting angry, being afraid, or hating someone. She used positive emotions, not negative ones.
  4. Actually, Han would be a cross between the two advanced classes, more like a one handed gunslinger than anything else.
  5. Wish we could kill companions .. two I would kill in a heart beat are Malavai Quinn and Qizen from the Jedi Consular. Sheesh, that overgrown lizard annoys me. I got treek just so I wouldn't have to put up with him.
  6. Yeah, I'll believe it when it happens. Knowing my luck, they'll come back up except Ebon Hawk, which is the server I play on.
  7. I logged in just fine a second ago. Maybe something wrong with your system, perhaps. My only problem is the US servers being down.
  8. not even gonna bother trying until I see the servers showing back up on the server status page. http://www.swtor.com/server-status
  9. Yes, the Jedi were outnumbered there. However, among the ones who survived the coliseum, most of them used a form other than Niman. Of the ones who died, a vast majority were Niman users.
  10. Greetings, Form VI isn't inferior, per se, but rather those who used it primarily at the Battle of Geonosis weren't adept enough at using it. Niman, also called "The Diplomat's Style", had potential to be a very good style and was the base form that lead to training in Jar Kai, which was the two handed style. However, the Battle of Geonosis pointed out that while the Jedi had the basics down of Niman, the basics weren't enough. Also, there was less study required and less practice needed. As a result of all of this, Niman was found to be inadequate and vulnerable against Makashi (Form II), which was Count Dooku's style, and other aggressive forms like Form V. Another thing is that Niman was originally intended to be a dual saber form, not a single saber form. It was converted to Single saber by the Jedi, but the dual saber form became known as Jar Kai. We see Jar Kai used by Anakin against Dooku in Episode 2, but he reverts back to his Form V when one of his sabers is destroyed. We also see Niman/Jar kai being used by Maul through much of the dual between him and Qui Gonn and Obi Wan at the end of Episode 1, but he switches to Juyo when his saberstaff is cut in half. Even though Niman was used by these saber experts from time to time, they stopped and switched to a different style when forced to use one saber. My belief is that it is because Niman wasn't originally intended to be a single saber style as the Jedi tried to make it out to be. In order for Niman to be really effective, you need to master it. That's one reason why Obi Wan started focusing on Soresu. The other reason being that Darth Maul exploited the weaknesses of Ataru against Qui Gon. Cin Drallig was a master of Niman, and he claimed it would take 10 years of dedicated study to master Niman. Niman style tried to balance the imperfections of the previous styles before it. It also incorporated force powers into the mix. In fact, looking at this, you could say that the Sith Inquisitor/Sorcerer and Jedi Consular/Sage are Niman users while the Sith Assassin/Jed Shadow are Jar Kai users. Niman, when used properly and masterfully, doesn't leave the user imbalanced and open for counterattacks like Form V can some times, but also it isn't so defense heavy that it doesn't allow for any offense like Soresu. When employed masterfully and properly, a Niman Master can handle pretty much anything that comes at him. The problem is that at the start of the Clone Wars, there were many users of Niman style, but very few who had taken the time to dedicate themselves to mastering it.
  11. My first toon was a healer sorc, and is still my main. I've not had a bit of trouble. If you want the easy "I win" button, go back to WoW. Playing a healer sorc takes micromanagement, common sense, and planning. if talents are spent right, you have two area heals: one that heals over time with Revivification, and an instant with Overload. expunge can give you an instant heal as well for a single target. Get a rotation down, keep the area HoT centered around the melee people or on the attack target itself since they'll be the ones taking a brunt of the damage. Keep rotating your resurgence on the various players, and toss up a shield on someone when they get low to give you that extra time you need. If you keep running out of force power, dip into some of the early talents of the lightning tree. there's some there that will help boost force power pool and lessen the cost of force powers, as well as increase damage on some of your attacks for when the time is needed.
  12. Greetings, With my level 53 healer sorc, I use Ashara a lot. Only time I really switch her out is if I need a tank for the big bosses and then I'll switch to Khem val. On my leve 34 DPS sorc, I also use Ashara a lot, but I'll switch to Khem or Treek. I've tried using Xalek, Talos, and Andrnikos, but was very unimpressed. So, all I use them for is crew skills.
  13. Keep her equipped and be fast on the heals, and you should do good. She's not a tank, but DPS, so keep that in mind. When you face tough bosses, you'll want to switch to Khem val or treek if you have her. For most mobs, Ashara does pretty good.
  14. The story behind the Mayne Family legacy goes back to a backstory I wrote for a pen & paper game I ran with some friends of mine. The main villain was a Jedi knight turned Sith lord. Her name was Kira Mayne, and she was a follower of Revan. Now, before I go any further, it's important to note that this was written before Kotor 2 came out. So, any similarities is purely coincidence. Kira and Revan had an affair, and Kira got pregnant. The Jedi Council realized that the Father was Revan, but Kira refused to admit it. After the baby was born, the council voted to take the baby away, fearing that the attachment would send Kira down the dark side. Kira grew bitter and angry with the council, but the mandalorian wars were flaring up. Revan convinced her to set aside her anger and focus on the war. Revan promised her a way to get her daughter back, and she went with him into the unknown regions at the end of the Mandalorian wars. When Revan came back, she was in command of a third of his great fleet. When Malak betrayed Revan, she pulled her forces back and would remain in hiding for another 15 years, building a power base. When she came back, she gathered up the remaining dark side and sith forces left behind by previous conquerors, and began searching for her daughter. This time became known as the first Sith Cold War. Her reign supposedly ended when Mother faced off against Daughter in a climactic duel to the death. However, all was not as it seemed, for the dark lady is not defeated easily. Kira, known as Darth Sorde, had bound her dark spirit to her daughter's body, and possessed her. She would return to the jedi and live in seclusion under their noses until the centennial anniversary of the Exar Kun war. On the day of the anniversary, Darth Sorde would return and begin another war that the Jedi forced to keep hidden, known as the Shadow War. The Jedi managed to gain the upper hand, but once again, Darth Sorde had a trick up her sleeve. She bound her dark spirit to her family line. As long as she had a living female heir to her title, her spirit could not be vanquished. This forced a stalemate. The Mayne Family of force users are very powerful, among the most powerful lines. However, they are tainted by the dark side. Almost all of the female force users of the Mayne Family have fallen to the Dark side. The Men, however, have not. Although not as powerful as the women of the line, the men are considerably powerful in their own right. The Jedi, if they ever wish to destroy the immortal soul of Darth Sorde, have only one option. They must purge the galaxy of her descendants, which would betray every ideal that the Jedi hold dear.
  15. I have to give my vote for healing. I leveled a sorc with healing, and there was very little I couldn't take on with Khem.
  16. Hmm favorite characters ... 1) R2-D2: Every since day one when I first saw the movie, I've admired this spunky little droid. 2) Princess Leia: Have to confess that Princess Leia was my first childhood crush, and it's something you never get away from. 3) R5-D4: "Skippy" is another fav of mine for various reasons. 4) HK-47: Yes, another droid, but one that made me laugh every time he spoke. 5) Darth Vader: Half-machine, but will always be the iconic villain to me.
  17. Greetings, I have ideas of my own for some new advanced classes. Republic 1) Jedi Knight Advanced Class: Jedi Weapon Master Role: DPS Summary: Idea being to being an in between variant of the Guardian and the Sentinel. Medium armored, can either dual wield or single saber use. One tree for each style. Single saber tree would be Makashi Form. Dual wield tree would focus on Jar kai form. 2) Jedi Consular Advanced Class: Jedi investigator Role: DPS Summary: Like the shadow, the investigator can use stealth, focuses more on saber combat than force mastery, but like the sage, uses a single saber. 3) Smuggler Advanced Class: Privateer Role: Tank/DPS/healer Summary: The Privateer is a jack of all trades, master of none. He can be a good tank, good at dishing out damage, or good at healing. He is intended to fill nearly any role needed. When in space and raiding ships, sometimes you need to learn a lot of skills. 4) Trooper Advanced Class: Scout Role: DPS Summary: The scout is a sniper and long range DPS expert. With stealth and a sniper rifle, plus long distance shooting, you'll never realize where he's at until he's already taken his shot. Imperial 1) Sith Warrior Advanced Class: Fallen Jedi Role: Heal/DPS Summary: You are a former Jedi, fallen to the Dark Side, and corrupted by the seductive teachings of the Sith. Your hunger for power has lead you to the steps of the Korriban academy. With your knowledge of the Jedi way and your thirst for power and hunger for knowing the ways of the sith, you will plow through anyone standing in your way towards your goal of achieving true power. 2) Sith Inquisitor Advanced Class: Teras Kasi master Role: Tank/DPS Summary: As a former slave, you were never allowed weapons, but you learned to fight without them. During your training, your instructors taught you the unarmed combat of teras kasi, and showed you how to channel the force into your unarmed attacks. 3) Bounty Hunter: Advanced Class: Creature Handler Role: DPS/Tank Summary: Why attack a mark by yourself when you can call upon beasts and pets to do your fighting for you? You're trained to tame nearby wildlife, spur them to action, and using various tricks in nature to subdue your mark. 4) Agent Advanced Class: Spy Role: DPS Summary: When it comes to fast talking, disguises, hiding and sneaking, you put them all to shame. You favor smaller weapons, knives and holdout blasters rather than a large bulky rifle slung over your shoulder. Some situations call for finesse and silence, which is your specialty.
  18. in no particular order, Zeltron Kel Dor Wookiee Togruta Draethos
  19. I'd actually like to see something like this ... such as starting as a Jedi Knight, and falling to the Dark side and betraying the Republic to the Sith. This could open up a class on the Imperial side called "Fallen Jedi", or something like it, where your character would be reconfigured into the new class of the same level. The two advanced classes could be "Fallen Jedi consular" and "Fallen Jedi knight". that's just an idea off the top of my head.
  20. I'm a gunslinger, just made level 25 today, and I have little problem with keeping Corso alive. Mostly because I switched his stance from being the agro to the higher damage. Now, he and I share the agro and the damage is spread out between us. I took biochem for the very reason to have medpacks that I can use to heal both him and I in combat. With the mods I have for his armor and rifle, he rarely dies.
  21. I played the smuggler for a little bit, and side lined the character. Now, I'm going back to it. When I played it before, it was quite entertaining.
  22. Greetings, I just started a Jedi Shadow. So far, I'm very unimpressed with Qyzen. I'd take the dark side points to space him if the option was given. I've played a Sith Sorcerer before, and I love Khem Val. I can't wait to get another companion just so I can sideline the lizard and not have to tolerate him anymore.
  23. My favorite line is Vette's quote just after it: "You were going through withdrawal. I get it." Cracks me up everytime, and I take the DSP just to hear it.
  24. I still GM Star wars RPG. RCR is my favorite system of the ones put out by Wizards coast.
