  1. As a Sorc, in general, you want the high willpower since it fuels most of your secondary stats and abilities. Endurance is good for survivability, but then again, so is using your tank companions effectively. If you use your companions properly, especially Khem Val, Xalek, and Treek (if you have her), then endurance becomes of little importance. The only real time you want to have a little extra endurance is when you're going for what I call the "Glass Cannon" approach. Simply put, when you use Andronikos or Ashara, who are both DPS, as a lightning sorc, there's a chance the mobs will switch and focus agro on you. As a result, having that extra endurance helps, and so does tossing a few defense mods in your gear also to help increase your chance to parry and deflect. As far as other stats for gear goes, you have two options: Crit and surge or Power and Alacrity. There are other options and combinations, but those are the better ones for most Sorcs. I personally prefer the latter as it helps me to dish out higher damage and do so faster. hope this helps.
  2. I use Treek quite often. She's the most balanced and well rounded companion of all of them. As a Madness Sorcerer, I keep her in tank mode most of the time, but I equip her with power and defense on her equipment mods to boost both her damage and her defense. This also has the added benefit for when I'm in a group and we need a healer, I can whip her out and switch her to healer with little worry. I basically equip her to make the most effective use of her balance and dual roles.
  3. I'm more worried about Disney having the reigns instead of Lucas. Now, more than ever, I'm afraid we'll be seeing Mickey Skywalker, Duck Solo, Pluto-bacca, Princess Minnie, and Darth Goofy.
  4. In regards to the duel between Obi Wan and Anakin, Anakin was stronger in the Force, but not the stronger of the two in saber combat. Anakin was good, yes. In fact, I would say that Anakin was among the best swordsmen of the Jedi Order. However, Obi Wan was slightly ahead of him. First, age and experience. Being about 10+ years older, Obi Wan had more training. He had also chosen to devote himself to mastering soresu. However, he wasn't ignorant of the other styles. He would've known Shii cho, used ataru at one time, had enough knowledge of djem so to train Anakin in how to use it, and he used a niman stance as his opening. Plus he was also a noted master of sokan, which is what he was employing throughout his duel on Mustafar by constantly moving from one tricky locale to another. Second, Obi Wan was able to keep his cool in the fight, which has already been mentioned. He didn't let his grief over Anakin's betrayal get to him. Third, he played on Anakin's weaknesses. Anakin's weakness was his pride, and Obi Wan knew this. At that final moment when Obi Wan had the high ground, he knew Anakin's pride wouldn't let him simply back off. He even warned Anakin not to make the attempt. When Anakin jumped, all three of Obi Wan's advantages kicked in at once, allowing him to defeat Anakin. In regards to the Rule of Two, Palpatine did adhere to the Rule of Two closely. It was Vader and Dooku who didn't. Vader had his secret apprentice, and later tried to get Luke as his apprentice. Dooku had Ventress, Oppress, and a handful of other force users under his influence who each thought they would become his apprentice. As far as Palpatine's attempts at immortality goes, name one sith who hasn't tried to seek out immortality in one form or another?
  5. Overall, yes, the Sith Sorcerer does make sense lore wise. Emperor Palpatine, for example, used a saber, and was quite proficient with it, but preferred to use lightning instead. Naga Sadow was said to have been well versed in Sith Sorcery as well as melee combat. Exar Kun would be the prime example of a Sith Assassin due to his indepth knowledge of Sith Sorcery and his double bladed saber technique. In the Star Wars RCR, there were two prestige classes called: dark side devotee and sith acolyte. The Dark Side Devotee, outside of any feats they could take, had only one primary melee ability and that was to empower a non-powered weapon, like a staff or a sword, with the force to make it a force weapon. The Sith Acolyte had some of the defensive lightsaber techniques of block and deflect, and had an increased saber damage ability. other than that, they had little to enhance their saber combat. Even their bonus feat choices were more for force using than melee combat. So, even in other game systems, you had classes that were more force focused than combat focused.
  6. Of the classes I've played. Inquisitor: best: khem val, andronikos, or ashara. worst: xalek, talos drelic Warror: best: Vette, dark jaessa, malavai Quinn (for healing) worst: pierce, broomark. Scoundrel: best: Corso, Risha, Guss, bowdaar worst: akaavi (not that she's the worst, but the least used. I actually found them all to be useful) Bounty hunter: best: Mako worst: anyone who is not Mako. Consular: best: none of them. (I got treek for the simple fact that I hated all of the consular's companions.) worst: Qyzen, all of them. Qyzen, others including Qyzen, and of course Qyzen. (did I mention Qyzen?)
  7. Since no one specified "video game" RPGs ... Star Wars RCR but "video game" RPGs ... SWG (pre-nge) Kotor I & II Neverwinter Nights
  8. You obviously don't know your Star wars lore as well as you think you do. Mandalorians, aka "gunners and mercs", are some of the most feared warriors in the Star Wars galaxy, and are quite capable of taking on Jedi and other force users. Bounty Hunters, aka "gunners and mercs", were often hired by the Galactic Empire to hunt down rogue Jedi who weren't taken out during Order 66. Boba Fett was the most feared of all of them. Jango Fett held his own quite well against Obi Wan in episode 2. I can go on and on of other examples. Commandos, aka "gunners and mercs", were used by Emperor Palpatine to kill Jedi. My point is that just because you don't like "gunners and mercs" doesn't mean they have no place in Star Wars. It's already proven that "gunners and mercs" who are well trained enough can give Jedi a run for their money.
  9. So? turn it off. There's a vendor on fleet that sells a gizmo that can turn the bonus class exp off for while. Besides, in a couple months or so, it will be over anyways. So, why cry about it? If you have too many toons, there's a feature that's was added to the game called "delete". Newsflash, shooters and sorcs are great at ranged for a reason. They're crappy at melee, that's why. Another newsflash ... juggy's are crappy at ranged for a reason as well. They're great at melee. See the trade off? Both groups have ways of countering each other. Juggy has ways of getting near the target. No nerfing needs to be done. Okay, what left field is this coming from?? The game isn't a FPS and it doesn't favor shooter classes over others. I don't see this game dying anytime soon.
  10. The X-Wing wouldn't have been able to resist Yoda's efforts to lift it. Luke had made up his mind to jump rather than submit to Vader. Even if Vader was able to catch Luke, Luke would've been able to resist.
  11. I run khem most of the time. it's all in the gear and tactics. First, equip khem as you would a tank role juggernaut. Second, your job is crowd control and healing. When facing multiples, use your stun effects, whirlwind, and other abilities to keep the pressure off khem while you keep him healed up. This can sometimes lead to long drawn out battles. so for tougher targets, keep your DoTs going.
  12. I started gaming regularly in the late 90s with Diablo and Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. I also played Mortal kombat trilogy, golden eye, starcraft, and red alert while in college. used to game with a group of friends over the network. The game that got me into gaming was Dark forces 2: jedi knight. I was able to download and play the demo on the school's computers, but not install the full game. I had saved up cash and ultimately built my first system just so I could play dark forces 2: jedi knight. Once I did that, I was hooked on gaming for life. in the dorm lounge, we would hold Mortal kombat trilogy tournaments ... one on one sort of thing. I was pretty good at it, one of the better ones in the dorms. I had mastered all the ninja class characters and their moves, and even shang tsung's morphing codes into the ninjas. I had a combo routine that worked for all the ninja characters, which made me very quick to defeat nearly anyone. A couple of my rivals discovered my routine and used it against me. lol in starcraft, I was almost always either terran or zerg when everyone else was protoss. Usually they would ignore me, thinking that I was an easy kill cause they were all under the impression that protoss was best. After the third game like this, they started taking me seriously when I sent 400 cracklings to wipe out their main bases in one massive map wide rush. it was a 4 way free for all, and I wiped them all out in one attack. After that, they stopped underestimating zergs and terrans. Another game we played a lot over the network was diablo, the original version. I played the mage all the time. a friend of mine played the rogue. between the two of us, we could blast through the game rather quickly. We would run the game over and over, collecting the unique items. Anyways, those are the games that got me into gaming.
  13. First off, Vader's hand was cybernetic, and his glove is armored with heavy leather. That and force techniques would have allowed him to absorb Han's blaster shots with relative ease. Second off, Luke was on Dagobah longer than a week. In fact, it's closer to 3-6 months or more. Here's why ... The Falcon's hyperdrive was broken. He had to limp his way to Bespin at the best speed possible. He "piggy backed" on Captain Needa's star destroyed from Hoth to the Anoat System. From there, he limped at impulse speed to Bespin, which was the closest system he could find with the resources he needed to fix the Falcon. That trip would've taken him several weeks, if not a few months. Also, that explains why Boba Fett, Darth Vader, and the Empire were able to beat Han Solo to Cloud City, and have a command structure in place before the Falcon arrived. They had the weeks or months to prepare. Now, because Luke had all this time, he was undergoing a crash course, if you will, in the basics of the Jedi way. Yoda even had to trim down the lessons some just to teach Luke the bare minimum necessities. Luke later commented in one of the books set after Episode 6 that Yoda didn't teach him everything, but taught him barely enough to survive. On the contrary, Vader was toying with Luke. His goal wasn't to kill Luke but to turn him to the dark side. As a result, he was holding back. He had Luke on the run the entire time on Cloud City. In their duel on the Second Death Star, there's another explanation as to why Luke did so well against Vader: The Emperor. Palpatine wanted Luke to replace Vader. In the Star Wars RCR RPG system, Sith Lords have a special ability at max level which allows them to provide a boost to an ally. Since Luke and Palpatine both shared a similar goal of wanting Vader defeated, that technically made them allies, and could've allowed Palpatine to provide Luke a bonus needed to stand up to Vader. In using SWTOR, you could say that Luke was being buffed/healed by the Emperor. Point being, on Cloud City, Vader was holding back, considerably. Actually, it's all about tactics. Look at Order 66. Here you had non-force users taking out Jedi, and successfully I will add. Why were they successful? They ganged up on the Jedi. They used bombs, mortars, grenades, and artillery against the Jedi. I doubt that the Scoundrel would be stupid enough to take on the Emperor by himself. In a realistic battle, the Scoundrel would be pulling out all stops, and having an army at his back. I've not played a scoundrel beyond the start of act 2, so I'm not sure how it goes beyond that point.
  14. I've always seen that last moments where Obi Wan was hanging on the ledge and Maul smacking the saber across as like a cat playing with a mouse. When a cat catches a mouse, he doesn't always go in for the immediate kill. Sometimes he'll play with the mouse: swat at it, bat it around, claw at it, and so forth. Obi Wan was Maul's mouse, using the analogy. However, the cat waited too long and the mouse was able to retaliate.
  15. It would be awesome to use only a single blade active for a double bladed saber. After all, Darth Maul used only one blade lit when he went up against Qui Gon Jinn. Why can't we?
  16. Very true! Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith is my favorite game & expansion set of all time. They're the games that got me into gaming in the first place.
  17. According to the "Power of the Jedi Sourcebook" for the RCR d20 RPG. The Jedi order receives funding directly from the Senate. In return, the Jedi offer their services to the Senate and the Chancellor. Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters are given a certain allowance for expenses during their trips. However, they are encouraged to cut costs where they can. Padawans normally aren't given an allowance and any credits they do get are provided by their mentors on an as needed basis.
  18. Maul had done his homework on Qui Gonn. Qui Gonn was an Ataru master, which is an acrobatic form. One crucial aspect to Ataru is the necessity of Space. During their duel on tattooine, if you notice, Maul always advances and stays in close with Qui Gonn, never letting Qui Gonn have a chance to really pull off his Ataru style at the fullest. Dooku tries the same against Yoda, another Ataru Master, on Geonosis, but Yoda's small size allows him to compensate. In Maul and Qui Gonn's second duel on Naboo, Maul traps Qui Gonn alone in a small room where Qui Gonn's ataru is at a serious disadvantage. Plus, he's able to separate the master from the apprentice, to give himself an edge. He takes down Qui Gonn easily because Qui Gonn has no where to go, and because Qui Gonn's style is inhibited by the enclosed tight quarters. In his duel against Obi Wan on Naboo, Obi Wan turned the tables when he sliced Maul's saber in half. Obi Wan also realized that using his Ataru would get him killed, so he switched to form 3. That's what allowed him to defeat Maul as a padawan. Maul was expecting the padawan to follow suit with the master and use Ataru. Obi Wan did get careless at one point, but he was able to think things through and surprise Maul. People say that Obi wan's win against Maul was luck. I think it was simply a factor of Obi wan remaining observant and studying Maul's style as Maul and Qui Gonn fought.
  19. Another good one is the expansion to Dark Force 2: Jedi Knight called "Mysteries of the Sith". I know I'm dating myself here, but in this game you play Mara Jade who has been training under Kyle Katarn. Kyle finds a reference in an Imperial Base to a planet called ... (drum roll) ... Dromund Kaas!!! He goes there and disappears. As Mara Jade, you complete a few missions for the New Republic, then go find Kyle. You track him to the Dark temple on Dromund Kaas to find that he's fallen to the Dark Side, and you have to bring him back to the light. This is why Kyle gives Luke his lightsaber and stops using the Force up until the game Jedi Knight 2 comes out.
  20. I have to disagree with this assessment. Vader, at the time of his death in Return of the Jedi, was in his late 40s to early 50s. He had been taken in by the Jedi and trained in the Jedi arts at the age of 9. The Wrath begins trained as a Sith in adulthood, with little known force training prior to arriving on Korriban. Vader had been exposed to combat and warfare nearly all of his life after leaving Tattooine with Qui Gon and Obi Wan. Given that the Wrath is possibly in his 20s, Vader has double the lifetime combat experience, and I'm being conservative in that estimate. In addition, Vader's style was a form 5 variant, as I tried to explain before, that incorporated aspects of Form 2 and Form 3 in order to strengthen his defensive techniques. It was also an intimidation factor to use his saber one handed, but he would switch to two handed when he needed to. His style would later be picked up by Luke, and would later be taught as the "Heavy Style" in the New Republic Era of Jedi by Luke. Just because Vader uses form 5, doesn't mean that's the only one he knows about. He was trained by Obi wan, a form 3 master and sokan master, Incorporated form 2 techniques he learned while dueling Dooku, and used Ataru and Jar Kai against Dooku during the duel on Geonosis. By himself, he has knowledge and training in the primary forms 2, 3, 4, & 5, plus training in the secondary forms of Sokan and jar Kai. Plus, you could add Niman, or form 6, into that list since some sources say that NIman is a prerequisite to learning Jar Kai. As for Dooku, he was already up in years and already a highly respected Jedi Master before becoming the Emperor's apprentice. Some of the books describe his mastery of lightsaber combat to be nearly unequalled except by Mace Windu and Yoda. His knowledge of the force and force techniques was second only to Yoda and the Emperor. Granted, I don't like Dooku that much, but I give credit where it's due. I think he's seriously being underestimated. Now, I'm not saying it will be an easy fight. Don't get me wrong. I do think that the combined knowledge and experience of Both Vader and Dooku give them an edge over Nox and the Wrath. Yes, Nox and the Wrath have seen a lot of combat, but Vader and Dooku's experience outshines theirs by far. Especially Vader's combat experience which is more than Nox and the Wrath combined. What Nox and the Wrath have on their side is raw talent, which doesn't win fights on their own. Vader himself has faced numerous force users, each one with great raw power in the force, and many of them with training. He still defeated them.
  21. As I said before, I'd definitely keep Khem Val, Vette, DS Jessa, Mako, and Treek. They're useful and make me laugh. On the fence with: Corso Riggs: Yeah, the farm boy act is a bit annoying, but he's a good tank. Kira: Again, on the fence with. Overall, I don't have anything against her. Ashara: if playing light, definitely want her along. I like her. Definitely leave behind: Qyzen: Can't stand the lizard. I bought treek just for the reason so I wouldn't have to put up with this walking luggage. Ship droid: be it republic or empire, I'd ditch him asap. He's a buck futting useless, brown nosing moron. Those are his good points. Don't care or haven't had much contact with: the rest not mentioned
  22. I'd keep Khem Val, Vette, Mako, DS Jeassa and Treek. Burn the rest.
  23. SWG: Shar' Nightshade Mynx Va'blid
  24. Two Words .... Emperor Palpatine He could easily be labeled a Sith Sorcerer, lighting spec, and he held his own against Mace Windu in a saber fight and took out two other Jedi in the process. He did this before being disarmed and resorting to using his lightning attacks. PS: He didn't have a huge Deshade assassin tanking for him either.
  25. If they asked me? 1) Separate the base classes from the Advanced classes. Allow a base class to move into any of the advanced class. This would provide some interesting combinations, and give the players greater freedom over the direction they want to take for their characters. 2) Stop making this game into "Star WoW". That's the error SOE did with SWG when they brought about the NGE. 3) Fewer weapon restrictions. Sometimes, it would be neat to use a one handed saber as an assassin/shadow without losing access to certain abilities. And before anyone says it, If I wanted to play a juggernaut/guardian, I would play one, but I like having a character that is a balance between force powers and martial skill. Also, it would be nice to use a blaster pistol as an Operative. Here I am trying to be a covert secret agent and I'm lugging this rifle all over the place when I can use a pistol in the cut scenes. I wouldn't mind using a rifle as a bounty hunter.
