  1. Do many of you use Treek? She seems to be the most effective companion I have thus far. How do you gear her at 60? Tank gear and stance? Healing gear? I'm thinking tank since I have an off heal but I'm curious about what everyone else is doing.
  2. I recently returned to SWTOR and decided to level my Powertech. I've been primarily DPS and have used Treek with good results. Now am I think I want to go to a tank spec near endgame. What companion best suits this spec? Heals or DPS? I appreciate any advice. Thanks.
  3. You are right about community. However a positive community needs good relationships with the dev/Community Management team. The devs need to engage the community in regular, open discussion. That isn't something BW has been especially good at. It will be interesting to see how Tera, GW2, and TSW do at launch. I've had some opportunity to play GW2 in beta and I feel they are well on their way. Their focus is a bit different so it isn't 100% apples to apples comparison to SWTOR. I do know that their devs are better at interracting with the community on the forums.
  4. The movie analogy is irrelevant. Different form of entertainment, different perceived value, different markets/price structure. However if I had two theaters to pick from that charged the same, I'd go to the one that was most convenient/ cleaner/ had better amenities. That's really my point. I only have time for one MMO among many. So I need to choose what is going to A- be most fun, and B- the best value in terms of both time and money. $15 isn't a lot of money to a lot of people, but that doesn't mean I don't want the best I can get for that money. Money is tight for some so they may emphasize that aspect and F2P may appeal more. They are certainly more forgiving of the shortcomings of something free. In some cases the cost in time is more important. For working folks with limited time, they'd rather log in, hop into a group for a dungeon/FP or two and maybe they have to log for the night. Or they can spam LFG in fleet to an empty server for 45 minutes. Which do you feel they value more? Maybe SWTOR isn't trying to appeal to that type of gamer. If so then fine, but there will be less subs. Somehow, I don't see EA going with that strategy however.
  5. It's not like those features are brand new anymore. Some of them have been around a long time now. Many of them are convenience type feature but not all. For example, a working, well designed and executed auction house is a major component of most MMOs. There is no reason that shouldn't be a priority during development. Even if something major enters the market midway in development it can be implemented in many (not all) cases. Games aren't developed in a vacuum, the plan may change many times during the development period. That is part of why it takes so long. They have been working on this game for years now and had a large budget to go with it. The current product does not reflect that.
  6. Sorry, I don't buy it. I don't think it is spoiled to have certain expectations. All of those things you listed were new and novel at the time they were created, but not today. Those games contributed to the design evolution of MMOs. Good for them. They had a far more untested designs and far less competitive market back then. As for new MMOs, we expect them to use what came before as a groundwork and then add their own new twist to the genre. We expect more out of the gate from a new entry to the market, and we should- there is far more competition for our time and dollars. If they want our money they need to be at least as good as what's already on the market at that price point. If those other guys are doing all those things better then why switch? No MMO is perfect, very true. However most people have a standard of quality that a game, like any product, must meet. Unfortunately, myself and others like me have decided that SWTOR does not meet that standard in its current form. At least not at its price of $15/month. I'll keep tabs on new additions to the game. If they can bring things up to speed, I'd be happy to give it another go.
  7. I think it just baffles people that a company can spend $200 million on a project and this is the result. The game is ok but has some major issues both in gameplay and technically. For the money spent I think a lot of us were expecting a far more polished, impressive product.
  8. Lol, the tech is there for a lot of things BW has made a disaster out of from the game engine, the GTN, to character transfers. Every other MMO has had character transfers where applicable. It shouldn't take this long to get something together. Even if it is difficult, if BW was smart they would have had a contingency plan for population issues. But they aren't and they didn't. The article linked in the OP is just a bunch of PR and BS to try to justify why they are dragging their feet.
  9. Or X-Perl:) The point is that mods add a ton of options and function to the UI, The Dev team doesn't have to burden themselves with those types of projects nearly as much, and other MMOs have proven that the community is more than willing to write the mods to get the features they want. Why not support mods in the UI?
  10. It depends on what you use. I use a Naga and use my left hand for foward/Back and rebind A and D to strafe. I use the mouse to turn. I just prefer not to hold both mouse buttons while moving-just holding right when I turn is more comfy for me. I use the side and top mouse buttons for the skill/macro of my choice. I can also bind abilities to Q,E,R,F,X,C,V and reach them all comfortably while on the move. It seems like a lot but it becomes second nature pretty quickly. I recommend binding the same type of abilities to the same buttons across all characters. For example, my auto-attack is always bound to 1, single target nuke is 2, my main aoe to 5, taunt is always C. Whatever works for you. No matter what, there is no best way to bind your keys. Whats best is what is most comfortable for you.
  11. Do you know how old the computer is? I am assuming you mean a PCI-E slot (just making sure). 300w doesn't leave you much to work with. You will need a bigger one- if it will even fit in the case. You can get a Radeon 6850 in that price range if you get a bigger psu
  12. They answered that last week. The real question is "Why are you dragging your feet until summer to implement character transfers? Did you really roll out that many servers without any contingency to help control populations?"
  13. The game is losing subs because Spamming LFG to an empty fleet isn't fun. Doing dailies isn't fun after the 100th time. People won't spend half their free playtime looking for a group. This is an MMO, we want to play with other people and we can't a lot of the time.
  14. Right now SWTOR is awesome because its Star Wars and has a decent story. The voice acting is nice too. That's about all it has at the moment though. The luster wears off for a lot of folks. I know it has started to for me. I had high hopes for this game. I find it disappointing to see how clumsily put together the game is, especially given the time and funding put into the project. Many core MMO components are incomplete. I was certainly hoping for a more polished experience. I realize that other MMOs have launched in similar states. The thing is there are so many more MMOs to choose from now, I don't think a new MMO has the luxury of being able to launch in the state SWTOR has. I think the Star Wars IP has managed to retain more subs than any other MMO could get away with. SWTOR has been improving, but slowly. They need to pick up the pace because people will only wait so long. There is some pretty slick competition out there and more on the way. BW needs to bring the A-game soon.
  15. I'm sorry, but there is no reason they shouldn't be able to do transfers right away. Do you expect us to believe that there was no contingency for a potential need to move characters? Especially when opening that many servers? Maybe they didn't have a plan. BW has been reactive rather than proactive so far. Maybe this is no different
