  1. I'm pretty much rolling an assassin because I've never run one before. I've done tanking, healing and DPS characters so nothing is really new. I just read so many different things about assassin specs, it's kind of hard to figure out what's good information and what's not. Looking to play mostly PvE, get through the story, with MAYBE a few pvp matches in between if I'm feeling up to it. What's the recommended spec to play through the class story? Tank spec good, but slow? DPS specs fast, but survivability low? Which spec is recommended? Thanks.
  2. Hey everyone --- rolling an Inquisitor for the first time. I don't really have a preference to ranged or melee. I'm mostly in this one for the PvE / Leveling experience. Would like to hear from both sides what people think of leveling a sorcerer and leveling an assassin in terms of damage / survivability / ease of leveling / etc. I really am torn between the two because I don't have much of a preference of ranged over melee and vice versa. Thanks anyone who responds
  3. Last I checked the new Avengers was not targeted at "little kids". It was quite fantastic and Disney didn't really do anything to screw that up. You people who think Disney is just after that "kids" market, don't have any idea what you're talking about. Do your research into target markets and demographics. Disney made a fantastic decision in Lucas Arts, it was dead weight. Even SWTOR was handed off to EA and Bioware, Lucas Arts just put their name on it for licensing purposes. Stop freaking out. Everything will be fine.
  4. Did you actually READ the announcement? Sigh. They are shifting from internal development to external licensing of future Star Wars video games. This couldn't be better news. That means more companies will compete for the right to produce/create the next Star Wars game, which means more Star Wars. Calm down. Disney made a brilliant move.
  5. Please? Then Disney can go get the real Bioware guys back to make a real Star Wars game Sorry EA.
  6. It's unrealistic for an MMO to keep adding on class quest content, unfortunately. As much as I would LOVE them to, they will not devote a team to keep adding on class content. They could phrase it every which way they want to, but the bottom line is that the EA big-wigs will not give the appropriate people the right resources to expand this section of the game. The whole identity of the "story-driven" MMO has been and gone with the move to F2P. Any moderator or developer is free to come in here and twist it any way they want, but it's over for class-specific, story content. It's really sad because that is what so many people seem to love about this game, myself included. Unless they go the route of Starcraft and release further "expansions" complete with new story lines, we won't see any new ones. I doubt EA will put that much effort into a game they previously thought was a "loss". It's sad. This game could have been so much more.
  7. Seems to me that Disney is making all the right moves to create the NEW Star Wars generation. I will probably receive a lot of hate here, but I'm going to say it anyways. I grew up with Star Wars, ever since I was a very young kid. I live and breath the old Star Wars movies and have been through many years of gaming with SW games such as the Battlefront series, SWG, KOTOR series, TOR, etc. However, in terms of the "big picture", Disney wants to launch a new generation of Star Wars from this new trilogy hence the "original story" for the movie script. I'm sure pieces of the lore will be kept intact from the original trilogy and story line, but Disney wants to build a new foundation for the NEXT generation of Star Wars lovers. What George Lucas did with Star Wars over the years (as a whole) is amazing in the grand scheme of things. The story, the ideas, the characters, all of it. In the big picture, George Lucas brought to light what we all know and love today. As much as I still enjoy what Star Wars "is", I am excited now for what Star Wars "will be" rather than a "was". Star Wars needs to be given new life to continue on for the next generation of Star Wars fans. Sure, they still have to hold on to the fans that currently keep the Star Wars Universe alive, but they also have to build for the future. Disney is making smart moves to instill new life into Star Wars, which will serve as the BASIS for new projects later down the road i.e. video games, spinoffs, comics, etc. I know a lot of you are resistant to change, but this is the right time for it to happen. We've already seen the video game scene for SW kind of take a dive and maybe this new foundation will serve as a re-birth to these projects in the future. Maybe not now, but as the new movies start to release and bring in new Star Wars fans and possibly bring back old Star Wars fans. Just embrace the change and stop making judgements about what Disney is doing before anything has really happened yet. Jumping to conclusions isn't going to do anything but upset you. My two cents.
  8. It was an unintended game mechanic. Period. They enabled Double EXP for the reason of leveling faster. Be grateful? Actually complaining about Double EXP not being enough to where the Ilum boosting should be left alone too? Lol.... In a perfect world, where everyone reaching 50 knew exactly what they were doing for raids and PvP, I would be okay with the Ilum boosting. However, LOW levels are using this to boost their characters all the way to 50 just because they are too lazy to level through the right way. Not just low levels, I mean low levels who have no clue about game mechanics / class mechanics / etc. They are getting to 50 and just polluting end-game content, both PvE and PvP with absolutely no clue on how to use their associated toon. There are more than just people who "don't want to level an 8th or 9th toon". Stop being so narrow minded. There ARE people using this like an exploit to get to 50, where they have no business being there. Sorry, I'd rather not have people running around in Level 40+ end game content without a clue about how things work. Not EVERYONE knows what they are doing in an MMO and some are just using this to level for the hell of it. It's not right and it should be patched.
  9. This doesn't make sense. The original story (Episodes 1 through 6) were all about the Skywalker family. They are the heart and soul of the movie story lines. They NEED to be in the movie, to a certain extent. Sure I can agree that new characters and new life need to be introduced, but the Skywalker legacy must be in the movie to set up those new characters and content. It simply cannot be done any other way. I'm all for new story, new characters, new content, etc. but the Skywalker legacy must be included to at least "pass the torch" on to these new characters or at least build into the new story. Can't do these movies without it, which is why I'm glad they've got Luke and Leia coming back as well as Han Solo. They need to be the foundation to set up the next set of characters.
  10. I'm going to attempt to play both sides of the fence on this one. That is my opinion and I shall stick to it. The whole "expect adults to be adults" argument is absolutely ridiculous. Although, I do understand where all of you are coming from. Adults should be expected to act like adults and take responsibility for their own actions. However, this is not a perfect world. A lot of adults do not take responsibility for anything, even though they are considered of an adult age. This is just as ridiculous as telling a child not to touch that big, red button and then walking away expecting them not to touch it. People of an adult age are not necessarily going to be adults, period. No matter which way you slice it, a large portion of the world does not take responsibility for anything that should be their own matters. Expecting adults to be adults is just not feasible. On the other side, I do agree that in this kind of business model, just like a lottery purchase or going to casino, REAL cash should be the only currency accepted. Sure, it won't alleviate a gambling or addiction issue but it will alleviate it through not allowing someone to continue to go further into debt by purchasing these items with credit cards (pay it back in a month cash, not actual cash). I would support a debit-card and/or pre-paid card for these kinds of transactions (Cartel Market). I do not support putting limits on what you can buy, just HOW you can buy it. At least once the money is gone, it's gone. It's not like you can go out and sign up for another credit card and continue to dig an even deeper hole. I mean, what's it going to hurt? I'm sure everyone who has a credit card probably has a bank account and a debit card that comes with it. You're just going to spend the money up front, rather than later. If you don't have the money now, it's probably better that you don't spend the money. This is in fact, being an adult as many of you have said, correct? At least this will stop young children, young adults and older adults from taking a card based on credit and purchasing items with it. Just my two cents.
  11. Exactly. However, Eric posted and said they are turning off Ilum boster as a temporary fix. So they will get minimal EXP gains even in a group. Should slow down people getting to 50 without a clue about playing Lvl 50 warzones.
  12. Ah. Oversight on my part. Just a troll then, lol.
  13. To be honest, it's probably a result of the Double EXP/Gree Event issue that's been happening on Ilum. I've seen threads of people saying they are getting to Level 10, shuttling/using a pass to get to Ilum (bolster applied) and then power leveling to 50. This would result in severely under geared and inexperienced 50s, clearly people that were too lazy to reach 50 the right way in the first place. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I know they are turning of bolster on Ilum in the next fix to try and help remedy it.
  14. Oh, you mean as a Jedi I'm not supposed to be as powerful as Grand Master Luke? Blasphemy!
  15. Is it possible this is one of those people who grinded to 50 using the Ilum EXP gain for the Gree Event? Looks to me that a lower level just used the group method to grind to 50 (with the Ilum bolster), now being an under-geared and inexperienced 50. Just a thought.
  16. 5) Invest in people who actually do GOOD research into business models and marketing. 6) Fire the research and marketing team you have. Hire the people from Step 5. SWTOR is not technically a failure, however from its core ---- from the very start it should have been built for the growing F2P market. Subscription-based business models are on their way out the door and if I knew that 2 years ago, the research/development/marketing teams at EA should have known that. It's not that hard to connect the dots. Completely remodeling the business model half way through into some fluff-based, F2P restriction mode? Wrong decision. Again. Especially, if we're talking about quality over quantity.
  17. Yes OP, why the sense of entitlement over another gamer? Hypocritical much? Quite baffling indeed. /Thread
  18. If they have recouped their development costs, they should just put the live server in "maintenance" mode, let people continue to play and re-build it on their servers. Do away with this split subscription/F2P business model and re-build it with one, cohesive business plan in mind from the very beginning. Disney has the money to do so and obviously plans on extending the Star Wars universe for many years to come. They should bring back the old Bioware heads to headline the game that TOR should have been. Completely improbable request, but one can dream
  19. Where would I like to see it or where do I honestly see it? TL;DR at the bottom for those who don't want to see a wall of rambling. Honestly, we will see exactly what the game is now. The only changes will be that there will be more ways to spend your money in the Cartel Market and maybe some more end game content for people who reach 50 and beyond. Band aids will continue to be put on problems that should be completely fixed or completely revamped. The problem doesn't start with the game developers, it starts with Electronic Arts. Many of us saw the investor minutes where EA investors called SWTOR a straight up "loss" and wanted ideas on how to salvage the investment and development costs. Thus, the idea of F2P with restrictions was born. A band aid. Yes, it will certainly show significant gains for a while and that is what it's meant to do. The problem lies in the longevity of the business model. The entire mentality of this business model is to give you a "taste" of the game, but ultimately make subscribing a more attractive offer than simply being a F2P'er. That is the absolute WORST decision I've seen or heard of so far. Split business model = a no-no. You should go one or the other. Not both. It's been since proven that the CORRECT F2P model can work if the game is built for it. SWTOR should have been Free-To-Play from the very beginning and designed to be that way from bottom to top. The subscription business model is considered (at least in my opinion) old news. Games like League of Legends have become a mold on how video games should be developed and marketed. The proof is in the success of the product. TL;DR I do believe that if Bioware had complete design control without the oversight of EA, we would have had a better game. Call that bias or whatever you want to call it. KOTOR 1 was and still is one of my favorite games of all time. I do believe that if Bioware had 100% control to do this game, it would have ended up much better. Unfortunately, this game will be a continuous stream of band aids until it's expiration. Will it be 5 years? I hope so. It will never be the game that we all wanted it to be. That is not to say I don't like the game because I am a subscriber and I play this game daily. I just had so much higher hopes for what it would be and where it would end up at this point in time.
  20. Yeah, I'm not into the whole FOTM thing. I'll just put that to rest now, haha. Whether or not it is super powerful in PvP or what not is not my main concern. Even though I plan on doing a good balance of PvE and PvP, class mechanics and play style are my main focus. I would just like a thorough understanding of each spec before going into it all. I like information Engineering seems like a pretty interesting spec to get into from what I've read so far. Might look more into that as this progresses.
  21. I rolled a sniper a long time ago back when I first started this game, but only got to Level 10 and ended up deleting it (Don't remember why, it was a long time ago). I'm just curious as to the play styles of each Sniper spec and would like to hear from people who have played the three specs. I plan on doing a mix of PvE and PvP while leveling to 50, so it would be nice to hear form people who have experienced the different play styles in both areas. What's nice about Marksman/Engineering/Lethality in PvE while leveling? How do the trees compare damage wise? Energy management? Same thing for PvP related areas. Just looking to see some information from people who have experience in the three trees. I'm not really sure what my play style would be as a sniper, hence why I'm trying to get a break down of each. Thanks!
  22. Well that's basically what I was getting it. The movies by Lucas are what is considered the overriding canon (his world). The books, EU, etc. are not part of "his world" and thus aren't a necessity in the story line of the next movie/trilogy. Disney is doing a smart thing in going with an original storyline, giving the writers free reign in the direction that they take it. They aren't bound to people comparing it to an already written book or already written information. Risky, but smart in my opinion.
  23. It depends on how you look at what is considered canon. When George Lucas was interviewed last year, he was asked about the Expanded Universe and if he considered it to be canon to the original trilogy (Episodes 4, 5, 6). According to Lucas, the Expanded Universe is NOT canon. Now, being that Lucas has sold his company to Disney I can't say for sure where that will land us. The fact that it's now known that the next movie will be an "original story", I think we can safely assume that they are going to stay in line with Lucas' opinion about the "movie storyline" being separate from the "Expanded Universe" storyline. Basically, anything that happens after Episode 6 is completely open territory for the writers instead of having to stick to what has been created by the Expanded Universe. Bold decision? Yes. Smart decision? I think so because it opens up a world of possibilities. I enjoy the Expanded Universe material, however I am looking forward to seeing something new rather than a re-tread of an already written book or piece of work in the Expanded Universe. As much as some people dislike George Lucas, he is the grandfather of the Star Wars story. Anything outside of what he did (The movies), is fan work and imagination by people devoted to the ideas of Star Wars. Great ideas and great works have come from the Expanded Universe, but it doesn't mean that not following EU material is a bad idea. Just my two cents.
