  1. cant tell if troll or not? OP is pointing out an obvious flaw in the game design and their reward system. i believe the point was to strike up a discussion, not to pretend to be all knowing and powerful and act like you have the ability to change the 0-5 loss in 2 minutes.
  2. great post man. I agree 100%. between all the loading screens, orbital stations, story instances, group phases, etc. I feel very limited in what I can do and where I can go. I miss having options that are outside of 1 dark side choice, 1 light side choice, 1 pointless choice on a wheel for me. feels very single player. truthfully, i miss user created cities and RvR and truly OPEN world pvp. its not like pve is any better in this game though. the stories are extremely linear regardless of alignment choices and every boss except 1-2 is a tank and spank in my book. on top of that, id really like it if race meant something in this game. everyone is a humanoid and have identical powers (or lack thereof i should say). i feel like a cyborg should be different than a human which should be different from a chiss etc. with the tauntaun pets coming in now, its even more obvious that this game is wow in space. there is nothing in this game (except legacy) that wow doesnt have - and does better in fact. legacy just doesnt cut it for me though, as im not an RPer or have 7 alts. there is just nothing holding my attention at the moment. i force myself to log on to see the new changes but only get frustrated at them. i dont see myself staying even with the free month. unfortunate really as i was really excited to have an MMO that isnt fantasy medieval times.
  3. yeah man, with the current reward system just leave. no point in staying. in fact, like OP points out, there is LESS motivation than before. wait.... werent these changes supposed to make it so wed want to stay? how did they fail so badly at that. if i recall, someone foretold this would happen. cant find the thread where but he nailed it right on.
  4. if i understand the system as it is, i would argue that is dumb as well, yes. dont they force you to have a 400 biochem to use the reusable stuff from biochem? why dont they force the 400 on cyber to use the reusable grenades then too? if youre talking about consumable versions of those things then thats ok as anyone can use and buy them. that actually promotes an economy, which this game lacks as well.
  5. they are forcing us to roll alts (or purchase it... im assuming you can purchase as i havent looked yet) to get it. everything about legacy is an alt grind. for us that dont enjoy having every slot filled with pointless alts, it becomes frustrating. back to the purchasing things from legacy though, considering losing WZs no longer gives you credits, this is going to be a ***** to buy anything when pvping was your source of income. legacy things are expensive. when im making credits only when i win (even if i assume 50:50 win/loss), thats going to take much longer than if i were out there grinding dailies. its like they hate pvp or something... i know im probably alone in thinking this these days, but to me, this feels like a lazy way in "persuading" the player to play. similar to achievements/trophies on the consoles. were games boring before we had those? no. did we all play super mario bros multiple times without having to have some silly title for it on our gamertag? yes. why is it that devs these days look at these cheap "rewards" to extend game play instead of just making the game play fun to begin with.
  6. This has to be a bug. I noticed similar inconsistencies with xp in 1-49 bracket as well. I win a game get 0 xp I lose a game and get 17k I win a game and get 15k Granted I wasnt keeping track of my medals but I tend to get anywhere between 6-10 consistently. Very very rarely Ill get <6 or >10. I feel like something is not working as intended in terms of pvp rewards on a whole.
  7. spot on post. pvp is dead to me in this game. it's like BW only knows how to RP. the only things that legacy does correctly is for RPers. sadly, the rest of us just get annoyed. seems silly that this is the one thing that is allowed in pvp, considering you never get buffs after the initial spawn. got a free month, but doubt i will even stick around to try it. unsubbed. dont get me wrong, i didnt unsub just because of this, but this is one of many things that lead me to make that decision.
  8. Maybe frustrating was the wrong word haha. I guess I just can't relate as I usually try to make my characters the ugliest brutes of manly strength possible. I've made some ugly bastards over the years. hahahaha what these guys said! I think I'd break my ugly dudes rule if I could make an Antonio Banderas meets Mr. Fabio Suave character.
  9. welcome to the world on keybinding! I remember when I first made that jump. It'll be tough, but you'll get used to it and then you'll never look back. I'm not so sure I would listen to everything imanujakku says in that other thread though. I don't know why people think it's soooo awful to keep a key bound to move backwards. Just know when turning around and running is better and you're fine. I would also recommend against using ESDF instead of WASD as so many games (beyond just MMOs) use WASD that it might be a hard habit to kick if you start using anything else. Seems like a lot of pain to have to reset every keybind in every game you play from now on if you adopt that play style, but hey that's just my opinion. You also don't need a fancy 13 button mouse or G-whatever logitech keyboard. The way I currently have this game set up is as follows: I re-bound character sheet to I and kept inventory to B. I don't need 2 keys for my bags. I also re-bound left and right strafe to A and D respectively as turning is now done through the right click mouse button. This gives you a much faster turn time and frees up Q and E for ability keybinds. You might have to re-bind some stuff like guild window to unused keys on the right half of the keyboard, but that's ok as those are never used in heat of battle. Lower Bottom Bar: Z, X, C, V, F, G, H, Q, E, R, T, Y Top Bottom Bar: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, shift+ 1, shift+ 2, shift+ 3, shift+ 4, shift+ 5, shift+ 6 Right Bar: ctrl+ 1, ctrl+ 2, ctrl+ 3, ctrl+ 4, ctrl+ 5, ctrl+ 6, alt+ 1, alt+ 2, alt+ 3, alt+ 4, alt+ 5, alt+ 6. Left Bar: I put things that I don't use that often in this bar so I actually still click for some these. For others I use shift+ one of the letters in lower bottom bar. Things like speeder, quick travel, the class buff, the meditate skill, for some reason I keep my spring and saber stance in there too though you could argue I don't need to as those are always "on." Advanced Side Note: You should absolutely learn how to use focus targeting, something which is impossible to do with clicking. First enable focus targeting in options, then bind a key (I have shift+ F) to set your focus. Then set a focus modifier button (I have ~). Now everything you hold ~ and use an ability, it will automatically be used on your focus instead of your main target. Great for interrupting heals or managing adds or whatever.
  10. haha this is the first amusing thread I've seen in a while. I can see how it might be frustrating for female characters. My only question though is, does anything actually stop a light saber? In the movies they cut through ships and walls and just about everything with those things. I figured everyone in the SW universe wore skirts and dresses and silk hoods because it didn't really matter what they wore, a light saber will still tear your **** up, and that they might as well get the mobility boost in wearing lighter things. Metal can stop other metals (depending on the quality and hardness), but can metal stop light saber? Am I wrong here? If they covered those bellies up, I bet my saber could still cut them in half....
  11. This is a huge bummer. SWTOR is turning into WoW in space minus the balanced classes, interesting boss mechanics, and varied environments. But hey, at least we get new mini pets, an alt grinding incentive, and a broken pvp system that caters to neither casual nor hardcore. They are trying so hard to be like blizzard while still "standing out" that the things they copy from WoW are obvious and numerous while the things they take a stand against (macros and meters) or try to do new (legacy) just seem disappointing.
  12. I unsubbed a few days ago with around 40 days left in my current subscription (I did three months). There are way too many reasons and I've already posted most of them in other threads. I even took the time to politely and neatly explain everything in my survey so BW knows exactly what it will take to get me to come back.
  13. yes. if it came down to black and white (which it shouldnt) i would choose forced grouping over paying $15 for a single player game. this is the kind of mentality that has gotten mmos to where they are today. Where has all the sandbox gone? The user created cities/content? Where is the sense of community? Is community to you having a chat bar where people in green text can communicate? That's far far from where mmos started, but sadly where it's heading. Grouping shouldn't be a chore. It should be fun. Some of the best times in video games I've ever had were because of the PEOPLE I played with.... not the story line I was soloing by myself in separate instances.
  14. I don't want to start an argument about what skill is and how much time an mmo should take. I really don't. But to answer your question, I am not 10/10 on NM 16-mans. I wonder though if in the current state of the game, if anyone is. Maybe I'm just not in the IN as there are no websites that I know of that post such accomplishments for guilds to show of. I also wonder if that is that even possible with bugs being the only real form of difficulty? Truthfully, I see myself playing other games until 1.2 comes out. I will go in with high hopes of course, but if 1.2 isn't the Jesus patch they are hyping it to be, I will find other games until D3 comes out. Then I will "casually" play that game.
  15. Unfortunately I've made the same conclusion this guy did. I guess I never understood the real meaning of "casual" and that is my fault. I THOUGHT casual meant people that had limited time to play, but in REALITY it means people with limited skill to play. As everyone in the PvP forums knows, time =/= skill. This game is easy mode. The difficulty only comes in the form of bugs and poor game mechanics. I have 2 lvl 50s, I started playing a month and a half after release, and I play 2-3 hours a night (maybe a little more on weekends) with 2 buddies from my undergrad years. I understand that the lvling process is supposed to be the fun part, but rolling alts can only be entertaining for so long. I've given up on this game on my 3rd toon. Unfortunately this game isn't challenging in any way, and it doesn't look like it wants to be that kind of game. People give the whole "enjoy your panda lulz" argument, but truthfully... I can guarantee you that the panda will require more strategy than the current, "he'll CC left, I'll CC right, and she'll CC mid, then focus on remaining mob" this game offers. Either have a game that takes tons of time and little skill or little time and tons of skill. A game that takes little time with no skill leads to being boring rather quickly. I can get a more engaging time sink from other games out there, and that is exactly what I plan on doing. I have 52 days left on my sub. We'll see if I sign on again. I doubt anyone will read this, but I'm just so disappointed with the state of the MMO right now. On one hand, I want this game to do well as it does seem like people are enjoying it (good for them), but on the other hand, I want this game to fail so game developers learn that they can't take advantage of their "casual" fan base. Maybe I'm wrong but it feels like a WAR repeat. Release a crap game, make a quick buck, call it a day, move to next IP. I seriously doubt I'll fall for another one of these tricks.
  16. I'm not trying to troll or anything, but I wonder is those 1.7 million in March are simply people like me who signed up for a 3 month sub plan thinking this game would be awesome but have since then cancelled. Do I still count towards that 1.7 million? I'm never playing this game again after the end of April. Just curious because I knew a hand full of people that have cancelled but still have game time left.
  17. haha exactly. I'm glad someone else realizes this as well. Him playing probably has little effect on your play. I guess I can understand that too.
  18. Just read all 20 pages here and I have to say, this is a prime example of how ****** this (and most mmo) communities really are. Instead of just insulting him, look through his posts and you'll see he's actually answered most of these trolls. Yeah we know how *********** hilarious you are, now keep your "funny" comments to yourself please. It's his time, how he spends it has no impact on your life. Let him do what he enjoys or what he's been asked to do. No idea what his NDA is about, but doesn't seem like he'll answer anything about that. I've been casually playing (~1-3 hours a day, more on weekends) since a month after release, and I have 2 lvl 50s, a lvl 42, and a few in the teens. Just because some of us know how rested XP works and how to follow the little green target on our maps, doesn't mean we have no lives. I'm a graduate student (in lab >60 hours a week), have friends, have a girl friend, I exerciser daily, learning to top rope/boulder/climb in general, read books, etc. This game is by far the easiest to level in any game I've ever played (mmo or single player). The fact that you can solo to 50 makes it that much easier. I'm actually surprised no one beat him to it. Congrats though. Like some others pointed out, the only thing stopping me is boredom with this game. I am also a little uncertain why you seem Assassins aren't viable tanks. From what I've seen tanking in this game is more about the player than the class. I've seen **** jugg tanks, and good jugg tanks. I've seen **** powertech tanks, and good powertech tanks. I've seen **** assassin tanks, and good assassin tanks. Assassins are perfectly viable. Don't spread the rumor of light armor =/= tank, because dark saber, talents, and other abilities make up for the difference in armor. My question to OP is what is your favorite crafting skill? I only maxed out biochem so far and from what I've seen and heard, it's the best. Is this true? What are some of the perks you get from the other crafting skills that you enjoy/think make it better than biochem?
  19. I agree, but at the same time there are some really interesting ideas within this thread that could make the fleet more "awe inspiring" as the OP puts it. I'm sure that took that player all of 5-10 minutes to think of that. Doesn't BW have teams of people to brain storm ideas? How were things like this missed? Awesome idea man. The dueling in KotOR comes to mind.
  20. I'm sorry, not to troll or anthing, but I don't even get what people are trying to say in this thread. "Republic fleet looks awesome, but Imperial fleet needs work" "Imperial fleet looks awesome, but Republic fleet needs work" You guys realize..... THEY ARE IDENTICAL? They only switched the ordering of the 4 sectors and the colors associated to the lights. I agree with OP. Cities should feel unique. Not a boring circle that is copy pasted between the two factions. As it stands, the only difference between the factions are some of the ability animations (lightning vs dirt, mortar vs missiles) and population numbers. That's it.
  21. Good article, but I think they missed some things and end up giving SWTOR too much credit. I understand it's a new MMO, can we all stop talking about the fact that there are only x warzones, y flashpoints, z operations.... I KNOW ALREADY! It's new, I can't expect there to be tons of content. That's totally fine, reasonable, and expected. Let's move on for ****s sake. My biggest complaint is game design/features related, and I believe most other peoples' are as well. Think for a second. What does this game do that no other game out there has or maybe does better than other games? Companions? Nope. Every BW game has companions. Games like ME and KotOR in fact, do companions better. Story? Nope. A 9th grader reads better stories in his English class. Out of video games, this is hardly the best work out there either. Environment? Nope. Corelia = Nar Shaada with lights turned on. Hoth = Tatooine with snow over the sand. Tons (I mean TONS) of areas are copy pasted and reused. Orbital stations are a joke. Fleets are identical. Nothing is unique. Abilities? Nope. Ridiculous amount of CC, and copy past abilities between classes lead to only 3 real classes: tank, healer, DPS. Everyone is the same give or take. Racials? Nope. Races mean nothing. Voice overs? Nope. Not unique to this game and quantity over quality for the most part in here (only story ones were wel done for most part). Space combat? Nope. Star fox 64. PvP? Nope. Guild wars, Diablo, every shooter out there. PvE? Nope. 9/10 bosses are tank and spank. Very boring boss mechanics in general. Events? Nope. No Christmas, New Years, or Valentines day events anywhere to be seen. Rift did server wide events. It's been done before. Community? Nope. This game feels like single player game with a chat window. Even Gauntlet has a more social feel to it with 4 players. Guilds? UI? Character customization? Auction House? etc etc etc etc Everything I see in this game feels old, done before, and not innovative at all. This game didn't invent anything new to bring to the table. There is NO FEATURE of this game that is unique to this game. They took parts of other games, mashed it all together, and called it "the next MMO" under the umbrella of story and voice acting. To be fair, I guess legacy system is their new "game changing" perk. But for me, a time sink in leveling up alts is a cop out to developing truly fun game play. Story can only keep me interested for so long before I read a book or watch a movie. Bad game play is the reason I unsubbed and probably will never come back when my time expires. To them, this game is playing as intended. To me, there is better gameplay in other games.
  22. So I only read the first 3 pages, but I am honestly surprised with the number of people disagreeing with the OP. None of my online friends know my last name. Most only know my first name. Some may not even know that. My last name is EXTREMELY unique as my father (and his brother) made it up when my dad got married. If you google only my last name, you will find me, my dad, my mom, and my brothers as we are all in the public or academic fields. Me inviting a friend (or acquaintance as you guys call it) to play a silly online game with me, should have ZERO impact on them knowing my real name. Unless I choose to share it with them, they should not know any of that. Simple solution: I don't invite anyone. Problem solved. Except that's players BW is missing out on. When I find myself playing without these friends/acquaintances... well, I will quit as well. Keep losing more and more faith in this game. Thank you OP for the information.
  23. As this game is currently set up, IMO you should roll a sage. Not only are they the best healers from what I've seen (easiest to manage your resources, best group heals, has a battle rez, has bubble and other awesome defensive/escape abilities), but you'll also be able to play lvls 1-10 with him since you'll both be on the same starter planet. Just my 2 cents.
  24. Only thing you'd have to take care is that might be too many rewards going on per kill. I think you might have to split it into a few smaller zones where each zone gave you some kind of unique reward for that zone + valor. Outlaw's Den gave valor + merc comms on kills Ilum-like area gave valor + daily/weekly kill counts I'm sure there are better way to do it. I just came up with that in 5secs. If they think it through, I'm sure there is a way to make it fun and make ALL areas relevant.
  25. I know the thread title is about the BH "nerf" but more abilities to arguably the class with the most bloated ability bar as it is seems like a bad idea.... I hope they mean "new" abilities in the sense that they are combining some. But now on topic, I have two alts at lvl~25. A trooper and a BH. The BH over heats so much less than my trooper runs out of ammo. The delay in my troopers mortar is so annoying compared to the crisp death from above. Everything about these two mirror classes screams BH plays as intended while trooper was just not polished. Things like that make me wonder if they were really surprised there were faction imbalances.
