While they don't focus on the dark side users, there's also a shadow academy series. The courtship of princess leia (however you spell her name) introduced the nightsisters who are also kinda cool, and one of the legacy books took luke back to dathomir which fleshed them out even more. So if you just wanna soak up various dark side traditions there are some options. Also, there was a one off book called red harvest that took place at an ancient sith academy. Did anyone mention revan yet? i find myself more interested in the non-jedi non-sith force users.

I have read every (or nearly every) one of the books. Where do these names come from? Also, where is the story about luke being an apprentice to the dark side. I keep seeing references to it but I've never run across the story.

Which 7 books are you thinking about? I remember 1 book and it may have been an entire paragraph. R2D2 is capable of keeping a secret, so his memory wasn't wiped. C3p0 isn't so his was. In fact, I think that was even in RoTS (granted, that came after the first EU book that explained it) I can't read the NYT article, so I don't know what all he said. (I must have said some nasty things about them and gotten myself banned or something). But according to an interview I read with either a publisher or an author back in the day, Lucas was very instrumental in keeping the EU as consistent as it is. He took an active part in it everything except splinter in the mind's eye. Without Lucas's guiding hand, I would not be a fan because the star wars universe would have a million alternate universes like DC and Marvel comic books. As of the last time I heard, he had to approve the major story developments.

I remember that too, I think it was from the X wing series, or maybe I, Jedi. Corran had to get a lightsaber fast, so he synthesized a red crystal. However, in the more recent books, we've discovered that when jedi and sith tune their crystals they change colors. I forget the name of the book, but one jedi took a crude red crystal made by a crazy clone and retuned it to yellow. I didn't get the impression that the jedi had a lot of say in the final color as he was surprised that it came out yellow. So based on that, I think the colors should either change autmatically to reflect your alignment, or be selected automatically whenever you get a new saber.
