  1. i have unsubscribed again and in the process i was asked to say why i was unsubscribing. i am pasting what i wrote to them below. you only get 2000 character to explain, and i took 1999 characters to say what i had to say, and that was the shortened version of what i wanted to say. frankly i am beginning to feel untrustworthy for anything i might say about subscribing/unsubscribing because i have been back and forth across that line several times. the only justification i can offer is that i want very much for this game to be good. i want it and i let that desire bring me back. so if that makes me look like some kind of flake, so be it. i stand by my belief that there is the making of something good here and my hope that the bad management of the game COULD possibly change. but the management of the game can not be TAKEN from the incompetent people in charge now, they must release management to someone else. and it is clear that the current management has no interest in anything other than exploiting every last opportunity for extracting money in the short term. all of us that pay them cash are of no concern to them any more that we are concerned about all the NPC's we kill in the game. your requests for help with in game problems, complaints and your opinions mean that you are making an annoying noise, nothing more and you are just a source of XP/cash, nothing more. ----------------- my response to them as to why i was unsubscribing --------------------------------- it is clear that you care only for a quick burst of cash and then you will post very sad messages about how you are closing the servers. quick cash, players be damned, they were only a crop we were harvesting anyway and scorched earth is a reasonable business plan in our modern world. this game has great potential. i am sad to see it being cannibalized for a quick burst of cash. you are killing it by exploiting so many ways for people to feel the need to pay you money. the last gasps are clear when you focus so strongly on the minority of hard core PVP players because even though they are the numerical minority the are the biggest spenders of money. this last bit with the companions being reduced in power was very telling. you could make an option for people to just change a setting for those that want more challenge. i come to the game to feel heroic, not to face barely surmountable struggle. the announcement of the Knights of the Fallen Empire Expansion looked like the heroics i wanted. it was. then the talk of reducing companion abilities began from the PVP faction of players. i felt that i knew where that was taking us, and unfortunately i was right. i see i have only 2000 characters to explain this, more than enough for the short attention spans of your largest cash source. i'll cut this short. i should not be disappointed as you are merely products of the modern business world, you can't help but feel that killing this game for money is perfectly reasonable. you don't know any better. i have faith in Chris Roberts and his crowd funded project. i know that he is also a modern businessman and i hope that he is introducing a new frame of mind for the gaming industry. of course it is possible that he is just better at telling people what they want to hear. if that's the case, he has found what this 61 year old man wants to hear, and is telling it very well. i have donated well into four figures worth to his project, and probably more to come. 1999 characters. ------------------------------- end of my comment to them as to why i was unsubscribing ------------------
  2. i see people will argue and say that this was not a nerf, it is just putting them back the way they were before. but the thing is that the way they were before was broken, then they fixed them or a short time, and now they have broken them again.
  3. well i feel like a hypocrite or something, or maybe they just did something that aroused my interest momentarily in the game again. but i subbed and let it re-sub because of the new story line. the story was good. WAS good as long as it lasted. i am level 65 and did enjoy the story line that brought me to this level. maybe i'll run it again with a smuggler with the stealth ability, but it was fun shooting things up with a pistol in both hands. i'll have a couple of weeks to do it as i UN-subbed again. if you are considering subbing again to run the story line i would say it is worth it. till you get to the point where you get your ship back. i won't say more because i think it's more fun to discover the story yourself than to get it spoiled. once i got to 65 i get no more personal xp because i am at level cap, however i do earn legacy points and do continue to raise my legacy levels. so why am i letting my subscription lapse again? there has been a problem with the lvl 60 character token and people have been talking bout it for some time before anything has been heard from the people that make the choices of what bugs will be dealt with in what order. the primary response has been to blame the problem on players. that didn't fly so they tried some hack to fix the problem. that worked for a few players. there was talk about people telling their bank to take the money back by the players who were not getting their problem fixed. this led to another hack that solved the problem for a few more players. now it has gotten to the point that few enough players are still having the problem that they are back to blaming the players for the problem. this is very disrespectful and you can follow this discussion in the swtor forum thread that i am posting a link to here. so i'd say get back in and run the new story because it is well done and worth the price of admission. at this point you will need to resub and i think you won't be getting the free lvl 60 start coin right now, although you might. if not it is still worth it to resub and go buy the lvl 60 start coin from the market [at the time of this writing still on sale for 2000 cartel coins]. yes i liked the story that much and now that i have run it i see that the company is still too desperate for coin to treat the customers with respect. too bad, this game could be so great under better management. so it's not the game, it's the blind lust for money that is destroying it. they are so obsessed that they can't see what they are doing wrong, and NO i don't do this kind of troubleshooting any more because i am retired and not only that i can see that they would never take my recommendations because my ideas would be so antithetical to how they think. i've seen groups like this a few times and they get into positions of leadership in good and decently profitable businesses and chase out the reasonable people and then ruin a good thing by strangling every last cent out of it for nothing more than a quick flush of cash. sad, but common. . and yes i AM an arrogant -person-. that bad word remover works well as i could not use a certain word there to describe myself. if you agree with anything i have said here you should quote it because i doubt it will sit in the forum very long before being deleted. . .
  4. what i read is to wait a month or two and when the fuss dies down because people have given up and went away submit your ticket. but for now the response you are going to get is that the problem is something that YOU did [true or not] and therefore they have no need to take even the smallest look into your problem.
  5. Reason - no, but warning - sure: http://www.swtor.com/support/helpcenter/7615 If you’ve created a new level 60 character and find that the playstyle of that Advanced Class does not suit you, you may delete that character before they reach level 61 and create another without having to buy a token from the Cartel Market. Granted, it's in FAQ section and who reads instructions anyway, but they did warn us. thank you for the response. this is a clear statement that you can not re create a character off of that token, and i am guessing this is the best explanation of WHY you cannot re-create a character off of that token. and by that i mean there is no explanation at all as to why. that means the reason is so obvious that to ask WHY means you are trolling, or just too stupid to be worth answering. i'd rather be thought of as a troll than stupid, but i don't think i am either one. . .
  6. i am sure that there is some reason that making it to level 61 means that you can't re-use that token to start another character after deleting that one. i am sure there must be a very good reason. but all the reasons i can think of are NOT good reasons. is there a blog post or something that can direct me to where this VERY GOOD reason is posted? . . .
  7. those of us that had one coming to us, and then bought some more in the store might have a few things to say about that plan.
  8. you're living in a dream world, Neo. but yea i think we will, but only because so many people have the same problem. if it was only you and me it would be a case of nothing done.
  9. i see in your comment that quality control is something for the customer to do rather than the source that is selling the product. . . .
  10. that may be true. however the sound of money loss catches a corporations attention much more effectively than customer complaint. i am old enough to remember when SOME successful, large corporations actually DID listen to their customers. nowadays it's just a matter of banning them from forums. ...
  11. seeing a post like this really irritates me. i ask myself just what is it that makes a person write a message like this. what is wrong with you? the answer i come up with is that what is wrong with you is probably the same thing that is wrong with me. you know that there is a good game here, and the current people in charge of tending to it and charging money for the upkeep of the game are ******** all over the people playing the game. >insert long rant of your choice here< edit: i see that the automatic bad word delete is working just fine. who wrote that profanity detector anyway? maybe they should be the ones that are . . . skip that idea.
  12. i have to say that i posted a comment some time ago that said i was leaving and never coming back. i broke my word. i wanted this game to be something that it WAS at one time. it changed to "give us your money for the least we can possibly do to keep from fighting law suites". i have subscribed again, obviously or i would not be able to post here. each sentence above begins with "I", so this is from a very egocentric point of view. resubscribing was not a mistake, but i am going to cancel. i had somehow deluded myself into thinking that MAYBE the game had returned to being something other than a mony grab. and a self induced illusion it was. perhaps i still have too many functional brain cells, and need to wait for the effects of age to fix that problem. the extreme hostility of chat and the forums is something i had forgotten about. the attitude of "if i can find away to attack you, i'll do it" still prevails. not that it is all that different from other MMO chat/forum environments, but at least i expect it in "world of tanks" and "eve online". perhaps it is immature of me to expect some kind of co-operative atmosphere among the players in chat, but at least it seems that there could be less PVP type attacks. i suppose i could "put up with" the money grubbing attitude of the owners of the game [i did NOT say DEV's there] or i could put up with the hostilities seen in chat/forum activity, but not both. the message i reply to here is a very mild example of that PVP attitude that i am talking about. completely off topic and just an attack that serves no purpose other than to belittle the person they are replying to. and how did i come to be here reading this thread? after i resubscribed to the game i was reconnected to the forums and got an update of a posting here in my email box. i do not have it bookmarked, nor did i get updates of postings to this thread while i was not a subscriber. so yes i am posting here once more saying that "never again" will i subscribe to this game. however i am getting along in years and may eventually reach a level of dementia that i can play the game again. till then . . .
  13. this is the nasty childish attitude i that i mentioned that discourages decent folks from spending time and money in the game. these comments are a prime factor in my not wanting to be here. i could put up with the fact that my smuggler is not a smuggler, and that all the character classes are so BALANCED for PVP that they are copies of each other. there are many good parts to this game, and i could subscribe and feel good about it, if it were not for these people that come here to cut people low and attempt to cause bad feelings for people. i will not pay to be abused. it's $30 for two months and you well know this, however you had to comment in a way that attempts to discredit my statement. ---
  14. i just paid $30 to reply to THIS outrages post. PVP is the only goal in this game. PVE is just practice for the PVP game. i have no interest in PVP. i prefer player working together rather than against each other. LOTRO is a good example of what i like. i was hoping that TOR would be like that. i was lucky enough to get into closed beta at a time that i helped with debugging the installer for the game. meaning to say that i got in fairly early. i was a fairly active beta tester. i was glad to help, and would do it again even if i knew that i could never become a REAL smuggler. i kept hoping that the smuggler would become a SMUGGLER. the smuggler turned out to be just another fighter/healer class. yes i do occasionally come back and download whatever patches i need to get into the game as free to play. i have hope that this really good start of a game will develop into something that i will find attractive. there is so very, very much that COULD go right here, and i keep hoping that it will. i am a tremendous star wars fan and i will say that much of this game is VERY star wars. however it has become a place where foul mouthed children come for bragging rights on how many times they have slaughtered NOOBS!! in PVP. these children are very quick to pour insults and humiliation on people asking questions in chat that identify the asking person as new to the game. i am going to guess that the people working on gaining bragging rights in PVP and insulting people new to the game are the primary source of income since this MMO, and almost ALL MMO's cater to this crowd to the detriment of any other type of player. i hope that the dev's eventually get the idea that these nasty children are chasing away people, perhaps many PAYING people that are not interested in paying for being abused. Lord of The Rings Online is a refreshing exception. i don't mention it because i am trying to convince people to abandon this game and play LOTRO. i like this game [sW:TOR] in many ways. however there is nothing here for the PVE player that is not interested in bragging about how many PVP kills they have racked up. the star wars myth has allot of material to work with. the voiced aspects of interaction with NPC's is nice. . . the first six times. when i would go on the missions with people they would get irritated with me for not just "space barring" through those conversations. i like those conversations. they DO add a nice feel to the game. however i don't need them for the game to be quite immersing. perhaps it may be that i grew up in a time when television was only brodcast for a few hours a day and books were quite enthralling as a form of entertainment and escapism. so perhaps it is MY fault that i can get a full picture from text and don't need every little detail acted out in front of my eyes and ears. if the game actually had the option to go exploring it would be nice. just set up a few parameters and generate a couple of thousand worlds with generic and random shop keepers and mobs to hunt and scavenge for resources. and only out on those distant worlds would be the items you need for the EXTREME special items that top level crafters can create. oh and maybe THOSE worlds could be anytime/anywhere PVP. perhaps allow us to set up shops on these distant random worlds. is this idea too much like EVE online? or like SWG? well anyway i am trying to get my $30 dollars worth into this one message, but i have two months to respond to any reply. it was just too much for me to see a PVP'er complaining that they were being neglected when in fact they are the entire focus of the game developers in this and all the other MMO's. i would almost like to see what your personal life is like. . . ALMOST. please ignore that last line. anyway i am going to log into the game and play a bit, since i'll have full access to the crafting skills i have been so pleased to build up and use. i wish i had a REAL smuggler. at least my imp agent is a fairly good sniper. ---
  15. advertising companies have done psychological studies for decades on what people want to see in the way of people in commercials. the information they have also goes for what people want to see as news casters. it works for what people want to see in movie stars. and even store clerks. so why shouldn't it work for fantasy game avatars? those studies show that all people male. female. and otherwise want to see YOUNG scantly clad, painfully thin females with large breasts and deep, exposed cleavage in the rump. the number of people that don't want this may be vocal but are so few that they are statistically irrelevant. ---
  16. if a chat bubble were created on the server, what you say would be correct. however, chat bubbles are made in each persons client with information that is already being sent by the server as it is now. all the information needed to create chat bubbles is already being sent out by the server to each and every client. the server is already sending all it needs to send to each client for chat bubbles to be made. no new information would need to be sent out from the server for chat bubbles to exist in the game. no additional load would be put on the server. i suppose i could have gone into detail, but i hope you get the idea.
  17. this is the wrong question. you are asking "may we have chat bubbles please". the question for the very title of this thread should be "give us a GOOD reason why there are no chat bubbles". the response would be predictable in that case. "There are no chat bubbles because [insert complete humbug explanation here]" and then the thread would be locked down and disappear as it scrolls down the list of forgotten threads. there would be no chance to to question or refute the totally bogus explanation that would be given. so the bogus comment about it being too much of a load on the programmers or hardware it totally false since the information needed to display chat bubbles is already being sent out to everyone's client already. and the idea that it would break the immersion for some people is eliminated by making it an "opt in" type option where it is off by default, and easily turned on in the options setting for each avatar. so with those two main explanations dealt with, is there ANY, and i mean any good, worthwhile, non-bogus, believable explanation for why there are no chat bubbles?
  18. i am a starwars fan. love the movies, love the stories. reminds me of the old erol flynne pirate movies i saw as a kid. good stuff. i got into this game in beta. fairly early beta. i wanted to do what i could to make this game as good as possible. as things progressed i was always waiting for the smuggler to become a "smuggler". it always looked like just another fighter/healer class, and i felt sure that eventually it would become a "smuggler" class. eventually it became clear that there would never be a smuggler class. i got out of the game. "lord of the rings online" caught my attention and i played free there for a short time and enjoyed it very much. after a while i bought a few things like more storage space, and eventually more character slots. and played some more. i was working my way through the game story, and had allot of fun with very well authored side quests. more importantly enjoyed the freedom to just wander around and feel like i was actually walking through middle earth. after having spent a few hundred dollars in as many months, i decided to become a subscriber. the game is quite enjoyable without subscribing to LOTRO, but i wanted just a touch more, and discovered that i was in a game that planned for the long haul. not just a quick flush of cash and when the profit margin dropped below a certain point, shut down the servers and move on to selling cheeseburgers or morning after pills or whatever the next quick cash scam is. it was clear that LOTRO was intended to be played by players that took the time to enjoy the story they are in, not just how many kills they have in PVP. i looked around at other games. what i have seen is that almost every online game, almost every single one of them, is setup to cater to the PVP crowd of people wanting to earn "bragging rights". almost all of these games, including this one, are setup to make a quick profit, and fade away. i didn't play SWG, and from what i have heard of it, i wish i had known about it before they stopped accepting new accounts. i payed for two months subscription to come back and see if i could find a way to enjoy this game. that was about a week ago. i was able to come back into my nine avatars that i had here, and start a couple of new ones. the jedi and sith are still limp and quite un-heroic. the smuggler is not a smuggler. my agent, my bounty hunter are still rather mundane and all the classes are made to PVP. one thing i DO like was that i could drop a small amount of cash [after subscribing] and roll up a chiss jedi, and a chiss smuggler. i like that bit of humor, and was a minor reason i came back to the game. PVE is just the training ground to get to PVP. i don't play the game for bragging rights, so maybe i just have the wrong goal. i wanted to be in the starwars universe. but this just turns out to be another fighting sim with a tattered tarp of starwars stretched over the mechanics of the game. you could easily put ogres, wizards and dwarves in the place of the sith, the jedi, and the troopers, and the game would still play the same. comparing this game to LOTRO again. LOTRO has PVP. and it is something off and to the side from the REAL game. the primary goal of the people that run that game is to give players "Middle Earth" to travel freely and slowly through and look around at, and enjoy. and it is that. and i am glad to pay for a game that i can enjoy without paying for. this game is disappointing for me, and i hope that something resembling SWG can come about. if such a game is to come about, i hope that the developers take a long look at LOTRO as a template for a theme based online game. and especially at how they get people to spend money on their game. it does not have the greedy hustler, scammer even extortionist feel to it that this game has when it comes to money. so for the next month and a half or more, i may log back in a few times to try to find something here, but it's certainly not going to be high on the list of things i want to do with the time i have partitioned out to spend in online games. and i am quite sure that i won't renew. ---
  19. the above quote says allot. it feels that we need to understand that the reason for the game IS NOT to deliver a high quality star wars experience, but to make a short term bunch of money for the investors and move on to the next money project that might be something like chocolate covered raman noodles or maybe dog collars with light emitting diodes on them. the money will flow in for a while, the player base will diminish, and we will close the servers altogether, but we will have made some money in the process. i wanted to be in the game, and could see that it had great potential, but it felt a little bit like watching the neighbors kid be a genius till puberty, then see her turn into a crackhoe because she got a taste of it from a "friend". so much for quick money. there is something that is difficult to describe here, but it feels like there was a meeting at high levels that decided the game was good enough to pass minimum standards so publish it. NOW! i'll still play as soon as i can buy some character slots fo my 9 characters, but i am not going to go back to being required to sign up for automatic withdrawals from my bank account just to get my 2 month time card to work.
  20. i'm SURE there is some way to buy more slots. i let my sub lapse and have 9 characters, but can access only 2. so i am searching the forums and anywhere else i can think of for information on how to buy more slots. not finding anything so far.
  21. i love her comment when entering the cantina on Dramund Kaas. she reminds me of a girl i lived with for a few years. we broke up about 5 years ago, and of her X's i am unique in being without felony conviction, without some sexually transmitted disease and alive, all at the same time. i still love her dearly, and if i walk past her on the street i only nod and not break stride as i walk on. quite an amazing girl.
  22. i am someone that considers myself an experienced gamer, and still got this one wrong for quite a while. i thought that NEED meant the item would go to the group member that needed it, and GREED meant i was being greedy and just wanted the item no matter what. for those of us that read the forums there is a thread here; need greed but there are many people that don't read the forums, and rarely look at the videos. this is a video that i think should be one of the first few in the tutorial section. it could save allot of hard feelings later.
  23. i wish i had known the difference. i was always choosing need so that it would go to the person the needed it, and thought it was odd that i was getting all these things that i had no use for. when i asked about it i just got **** or similarly rude replies. maybe i was not phrasing the question properly because almost all of my chat interaction and the interaction i have seen has been polite and helpful. so when i did eventually figure it out i felt quite embarrassed that i didn't know something that was expected that i know from the start. i wished i could write email to all those folks that i had angered with an apology and an explanation of my ignorance. and the joke is i consider myself an experienced gamer. the only excuse i have to fall back on is that i never join groups, and just skip content that i can't solo. i changed that philosophy here in this game, and embarrassed myself. with all the videos that are here to tell people about the game it would be handy to have one on this aspect and the expected courtesy of choosing greed when in doubt. in fact i think i'll start a thread titled "request for need/greed explanation video".
  24. this thread is OLD. really old. and still active. could be a clue there. the message i quoted above is a very good argument in favor. another one is if i am running a healer i can SEE, actually SEE who is saying they are "dying over here", rather than needing to look at the little chat window and guess at who is who in all the battle spam. so even though i am a person that would have the option in the off position almost all of the time, i agree that chat bubbles as an option is a very good idea.
  25. so make some servers for PVE and some for PVP. oh wait! they did. ok so make these changes on the PVP servers and don't spoil it for those people that don't want PVP. i don't have any characters on any PVP server. there is a reason for that. and if you want PVP so much, why are you on a PVE server? it's like going onto the RP server and demanding changes that spoil the RP aspects of the game. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS but it's too late.
