  1. OP, you won't be missing much as far as the in-game items go, but the physical items are well worth $55 by themselves. I'm fairly sure you could hock the Malgus statue and get your money back if you wanted (not that I would... it's a pretty awesome statue).
  2. It's very brief and doesn't go very much into how he escapes, but I'm fairly sure it's the version from Tales since it mentions Dengar finding him. Here's the entire entry about his survival on the Visual Guide timeline: It's accompanied by this picture as well, which is apparently a poster. Later it describes Fett and Dengar teaming up in the New Republic Era... This one's accompanied by a comic book snippet of Dengar and Fett, with Fett saying "The Sarlaac found me somewhat indigestible, Solo." Under normal circumstances, his death being G-canon might override his C-canon survival, but it was declared it an exception to the rules. I'd say both are fairly important, and his survival is necessary for many events that occur after the movies.
  3. Fett's death is G-canon, per Lucas himself. His survival is an exception within C-canon, not S- or N-canon (per Chee, who has the job of designating events/places/people/etc into those levels). About 6 weeks ago, I also posted additional evidence from a book published just a few weeks ago. This was of course ignored in a manner that would be the cyber-equivalent of covering one's ears and shouting "Bantha Poodoo!!" at those that they are arguing with over and over again. Anyway, I'll quote myself here to reiterate the point: The part of the Visual Guide that recounts his survival includes the major events along SW Timeline from the Old Republic era (including SWTOR's story), through the movies and TCW, the New Republic and New Empire Eras, and all the way into the Legacy era. It includes Fett's escape as well as his post-ROTJ team-up with Dengar and their falling out. If the updated Guide recounts C-canon events (per Chee), and Fett's survival is included in those events, then Fett's survival must be C-canon. It is an exception that was allowed by the people in charge of the SW universe. One may consider it a parallel universe as a solution to the paradox, I suppose, though I consider it a single timeline (either are valid views, since there are plenty of quotes saying both... often by the same individuals, including Chee). With that, I'm out of this argument.
  4. It's a bit off topic, but I had a couple minutes before heading to work myself, so I dug up a link to the speech for those who are interested in reading it. As well as an interesting article describing his refusal to submit original versions of the OT to the Library of Congress for archival in the National Film Registry. They do have copies, according to a quoted official statement, but those copies have suffered some damage and degradation.
  5. See, you say it is just that simple, but you are ignoring a key part of those rules. It's the paragraph just before the definitions you posted that spells out the case-by-case caveat: Following this is the definition of the canon levels which you posted. Note the use of the word "typically" (meaning "usually") and the fact that it is specifically noted that what you're saying is "not always absolute." Fett was one of those cases: his back-story was retconned, making the previous versions of his back-story into false rumors that circulate about him (I should note: retcon does not necessarily mean deletion -- usually it is a rather minor alteration to a story to make it retroactively fit continuity). However, his story beyond the movie was one of the two exceptions where C-canon was allowed to live on despite being declared dead by Lucas's statement, as specifically pointed out by Chee (who created the G/T/C/S/N hierarchy in the first place) about one year after Lucas's statement. Chee explains the entire system pretty thoroughly on this FAQ on his blog. The OP was right in his post, and there is plenty of evidence to back it up. It is a contradiction, and for some reason that really seems to bother you, but it is correct.
  6. First off, you are mixing up different arguments from different people. As I mentioned before, I draw and post my own conclusions. Some mirror other posters, but not completely. I never once said that everything Lucas approves immediately falls into C-canon. What I am stating is that it's not the sort of canon/non-canon dichotomy that you are making it. There are always exceptions to any rules, including SW canon, which is why I included the Chee quotes. Haven't you ever heard the phrase, "The only absolute allowed is the absolute insistence that there is no absolute" (or, perhaps the SW version: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes"). The first quote specifically says that there are exceptions to the rules, as well as the follow-up that declared Boba Fett as one of those exceptions where the EU was allowed to override the films. While dead in G-canon, he's alive and well in the EU. Now, he didn't specifically mention what level of canon that goes into. Perhaps we should revisit the Visual Guide again. As I pointed out before, the update Guide was released about 2 weeks ago, but first... what canon levels does this Visual Guide cover? I refer you, once again, to the man whose job is to determine that: It would appear that his survival is not at the level that you hope it is. So yeah, I am a Fandalorian and proud, but that's not why I have a hard time with Boba Fett being dead in G-canon. In fact I do not, and have stated several times that it is in fact the case. What I do have a hard time with is the fact that you enter every Fett thread I see and spread your misinformation about him being dead in C-canon. This is at least the third thread where I've seen it. That's why I finally stopped rolling my eyes at the inane bickering long enough to research the issue, read every official statement I could find on the issue before posting my thoughts, along with plenty of evidence to support my claims that he is dead in G-canon and alive in C-canon (as the OP said), while countering the arguments that you posted with evidence against them. You claimed evidence to the contrary existed, so I requested you post it. When I got back from work 12 hours later, what have you provided? No evidence and a passive-aggressive attack on my objectivity based solely on my signature. Interesting.
  7. I already did, 3 pages back. Sansweet noted that Fett's comeback in C-canon was approved by Lucas, and Chee outright stated that there are exceptions to the canon rules, and that Boba Fett is one of them. So, dead in G-canon and alive in C-canon. An argument without evidence is no argument at all, so point them out. I've already noted that Lucas's quote which you provided eliminates Fett in G-canon, but that Lucas also allowed his survival in C-canon. I'll be at work for several hours, so take your time. Yep, that expansion pack was N-canon from the get-go. A "What if" story that ultimately leads to It's even declared a "What if" scenario (hence N-canon by definition) in the TFU Sith Edition product description. It is a flaw in the way the canon is supposed to be handled, but both are true. It is one of the very few times when the two canon levels are allowed to conflict, probably because the conflict is with statements by Lucas but not the film itself. I can't read Chee's mind, but that would be the logical explanation for why the exception is allowed.
  8. *Shrug* Worth a try, especially considering Fett's escape is mentioned in the updated Guide. Of course, that's also considered C-canon according to other quotes from Chee. Perhaps I shouldn't mention the new SW Bloodties comic entitled "Boba Fett Is Dead" Oddly it is set at 10 BBY and doesn't bear the Infinites label, so he has to come back. I can't wait to see how they'll bring Fett back this time.
  9. One is vaguer than the other. But yes, Lucas says he is dead in G-canon, but he also allowed him to live on in C-canon since it doesn't exactly contradict the movie. I do wonder if he'll rethink adding that crawling out scene in the re-re-release of ROTJ in 3D, but for now he remains a contradiction as it stands in the canon. Didn't I say that? Twice even? Except again, not G-canon. But C-canon is still canon. I read through every quote relevant to Fett. Basically, I came to the same conclusion as the OP. That is, everybody arguing about it (both for Fett surviving and against it) is in fact right, and it has been allowed to be that way simply because of Fett's popularity. Yep, and those retcons would lead to anger and Lucas probably doesn't want to deal with all that again. The Fett retcons and other canon retcons due to the Prequels lead to much QQ'ing about it... and even more about things done in T-canon (TCW). Personally, I don't have a problem with it. The previous stories of Fett's past were not totally ousted, but declared as false rumors that circulate about his past. And why would Fett seek to set the record straight? It only adds to his mysteriousness if nobody really knows where he came from (except us of course, because Lucas told us his story in the Prequels and TCW).
  10. I wouldn't know where to look for the information about the padding... but I'd doubt that they'd put it in those high-end replicas if the helmet were more like a knight's helmet with no padding. EDIT: Here's a picture of the inside of the helmet that someone posted on the Fett Fan Club message board. It'd make sense for them to be padded for various reason... comfort, unexpected collisions, etc. EDIT: Also, there'd have to be some padding, or else the impact of the bullet hitting the helmet while Jango was wearing it would have knocked him down (and possibly rendered him unconscious as well), since there'd be nothing between the helmet and his forehead to absorb that force. He was probably attempting to steer himself away from the barge or turn himself around, but only managed a 90 degree turn before he collided with the barge, resulting in the sideways collision. All I can hear is a thud, even when listening through headphones. The fall looks to me to be just over 2 or 3 times his own height, and he falls on his feet with his legs slightly bent ( ). This is actually recommended, as it reduces the impact force significantly. Add in the rather soft sand surface that he's landing on, and you see that it's really not nearly as bad as it looked.
  11. "Offhand" was probably not the best word to use there... I'll grant you that. The quote is an official response during an interview and DVD commentary and I do recognize the weight of that. Well, let's take a look at that, shall we? See the difference? Jabba is stated outright to die there. There is nothing similar in Fett's final scene. No, there is no G-canon beyond ROTJ, because Lucas has not (and will not) release any additional movies. It is still recognized as C-canon. Both are valid as canon, as the category names would imply. In terms of facts, the site is only useful as an aggregation of quotations about Star Wars. The site author's analyses are heavily opinionated and of little relevance. Actually it does. Let's say he released a third trilogy that overrode some beloved books from the post-ROTJ era... Now imagine the backlash and amount of "childhood ruining" that would result from such a move. It most definitely would, and Lucas implied as much when stating that the EU has done things that he wouldn't have done.
  12. Eh, not really. Hitting the barge as he did may have broken an arm and/or a couple ribs, but that certainly wouldn't doom him. Such an impact would actually protect his abdomen since the arm absorbed the brunt of the force from the impact, leaving less of it to damage internal organs or his spine. As for a concussion, his helmet is padded on the inside, judging by all of the replicas I've ever seen (including the scaled Ridell Master Series one that I'm very proud to own ), and this padding would offer the same sort of impact protection that a motorcycle helmet offers... protection against concussions and skull fractures. Edit: Neglected the part about his legs. A 5-foot drop is not nearly far enough to break human legs... You have to jump from above 2 stories (20-30 feet) to break your legs (though this could theoretically be different, depending on how Tatooine's gravity compares to Earth's). He's also landing on loose sand, which would cushion his fall... as opposed to a hard surface like asphalt or concrete.
  13. Even Lucas doesn't believe what he says I'm fairly sure, considering his very passionate speech to Congress about how films are part of cultural heritage and should not be updated with new scenes, soundtracks, and "fresher actor faces" in 1988... and then he himself did all of those things less than 10 years later when creating the Special Editions of the OT, and again 15 years later with the ongoing 3D releases. But that's beside the point. First, that script that was cited. Here's the ROTJ scene in question: Sorry, no mention of death there at all. The closest possible could be the "last flight" part, but that most likely means the last flight in the scene. He's screaming, which indicates he's certainly alive when he enters the Sarlacc's mouth. Now, what I do find interesting comes from the recently updated Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide. The updated book was published about 2 weeks ago, and it covers all canon material (G, T, and C) from The Old Republic (including SWTOR btw) to beyond the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. From page 133: This is accompanied by a picture of Fett near the opening of the Sarlaac, with the creature wrapping its tentacles around Fett's legs, while he blasts down at the creature's mouth with his flamethrower. Now, why would that possibly be there? Because the OP is correct. Well I know there will be an outcry due to the date stamped there, so let's fast forward beyond the MTV interview and see what our Keeper of the Holocron, Leland Chee says... So there you have it. He IS dead in G-canon and he IS alive in C-canon. Fett is considered an exception to the canon rule, because of his popularity. The conflict is with an offhand comment made by Lucas, but not with the movie itself. If you only want to believe in G-canon, that is fine... but don't demand that everybody agree with you because he is alive in C-canon and it was approved as such. Of course, it is worth mentioning that the story created in the game that this forum centers around is also C-canon (not G-canon). Over and done. Seriously... this kind of senseless bickering is most likely a major reason why Lucas now refuses to make a third trilogy.... probably even more than the reception of the prequels. He's flat-out stated that the way things play out in the EU is not the way he would do it, thus a new trilogy would create a whole slew of retcons by necessity... and he knows this would incite a massive backlash as a result.
  14. Also, I picked up the Vault Editions of the Jedi Path and Book of Sith for about half price each. Jedi Path was a Gold Box Deal earlier today, but it's still on sale for $62.50 (MSRP is $99.99). The Book of Sith wasn't part of the Gold Box stuff, and seems to be half price all day... so there are likely some other SW items on Amazon that are on sale but not necessarily part of the Gold Box listing.
  15. Amazon has SW-related stuff going on sale in their Gold Box Deals section all day today.
  16. I feel your pain, OP. Much like you, I too am a first-time MMO player, and I immensely enjoy playing the game. My RL friends started an Imperial guild, and it grew well beyond just us. Now it seems that several of them have gone inactive... sigh. At least our core group (my RL friends) are mostly still active. Our server is indeed small, OP, and its future is hazy at best. The upcoming "limited" free server transfers will either beef up The Deadweight or collapse it entirely... we won't really know until they say exactly who will be granted a transfer. I'm hoping it'll be given to the members of the ridiculously overpopulated server that so many have decided to re-roll on (you know the one), allowing them to bring their avatars to "Light" servers only. More likely, though, it'll be given to us, and our server's players will end up transferring to "Standard" servers. Kind of like a merger, except that you aren't forced to go to any particular server.
  17. I'm not afraid to admit I'm a Fandalorian (I'm taking term back from Traviss's Mandalorian Sues). As a kid. I was pretty much fascinated by this mysterious guy who donned cool looking armor and an array of weapons, tracking people across a huge galaxy in an awesome ship, and going toe to toe with opponents who effectively had superpowers when he had none. Of course, his on-screen time was limited... He really shines in the comics. Seriously, check out the Fett Omnibus sometime.
  18. The R2D2 Xbox finally made me break down and buy one I've been having some fun with SWK's campaign and the Rancor Rampage... haven't tried the dancing yet though (which is probably for the best). Plus, the Kinect doesn't mind when I hold one of these (minus the candle) while playing the campaign.
  19. Nice one BW... I laughed pretty hard at all of the videos, and especially loved the epic music playing during the mundane tasks "trailer."
  20. Several arcs of Clone Wars episodes deal with Anakin's brushes with the dark side, so it really starts long before that fight. That was simply the point of no return for him. As for the lightsaber issue, it's completely fine for a Force user to use one. Han Solo did so in Ep 5. Granted it's just to slice open the tauntaun, but still...
  21. I absolutely love the game, but perhaps it's because during college/pharmacy school I knew better than to get into MMO's since my love of old-school D&D and online MUD's nearly destroyed my high school GPA. I resisted my friends' attempts to get me into WoW (although I did join them in a SW D&D game for a few weeks right before graduation), and now most of them have moved on to SWTOR... We started a guild pretty much immediately after the game was released, and we all continue to game together even though we're all in different cities now. It seems like SWTOR and Ventrilo have replaced the phone or even Facebook as our primary contact method. Then again, I have no say on End-Game Content, as I only recently reached level 50 with my BH and I still have a lot of stuff left to do. But if it's lacking, I still have 7 more unique Star Wars stories (15 if you split up the Light\Dark sides for each character)... that's more than plenty to keep me busy until the first expansion comes out. Now if I can only get my fiancee to join up as I level my smuggler...
  22. I really enjoyed Order 66 when I read it, which was the only book of her I'll ever read. Not long after that, she lost all credibility with me. I'm a self-admitted "Fandalorian," as I was always fascinated by Fett (and later the broader scope of Mandalorians in the EU... mostly through the comics rather than the novels though), but as mentioned by others, some of the abilities that Traviss granted them were definitely over the top. What really got me (and many others) though, is that she directly attacked her own fans who pointed out conflicts with established lore that she never bothered to research before writing the books, and she also killed a character invented by another author (who was also still writing SW books with that character in it)... without even discussing it with the other author. She even went as far as calling the fans terrorists ("Talifans" and Jedi Neo-Nazis and things like that). If you're going to write Sci-Fi novels based off a popular Sci-Fi series, expect some overzealous fans. It comes with the territory and the money.
  23. I held out on getting a 360 as soon as I heard about the SW one, and since it comes out a day before my birthday, I pre-ordered it a birthday gift to myself
  24. What do you get when you take a supermarket tabloid and put it on TV? TMZ of course. No celebrity that knows anything would stop to give them a true interview, because all they do is try to make the celebrities look bad. Anyway, here's a that pretty much sums up TMZ.

Heh, I wouldn't go so far as to say he's awesome, but I have started bringing him in for conversations where I know someone is going to die. Initially I was hoping for him to get mad and leave my ship completely, but as it turns out he loves cracking his knuckles and doing the dirty work while my guy looks on like a mob boss. Sorry Mako, go fetch yourself something nice...
