Just FYI about WoW's Free Trial Account: - A level cap of 20. - A maximum of 10 gold. - Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks. - Unable to trade via the Auction House, mailbox, or player-to-player. - In-game access to public chat channels unavailable. Players are limited to communicating using only say, party, or whisper. - Characters will be unable to create or join guilds. - Characters are not able to send whispers to other characters unless they have been added to the characters' friends lists or have received a whisper from a character first. - Characters will not be able to invite other players into a party. - Characters will not be able to join parties with other characters above level 20. - Voice chat disabled on Starter Edition accounts. - Realms experiencing login queues will prioritize players who have full, paid accounts. - Starter Edition accounts are not eligible for character transfers - RealID features are disabled on all Starter Edition Accounts.
  2. Ideally, you want to complete your lowest level quests first because they do tend to go grey to you if you don't. Might as well milk them for as much as you can. While the XP is less, you still acquire credits, gear, and commendations from doing them. If you make it a habit to do only the quests that yield the highest XP only, you will find that you will hit a point of no return where you will no longer be able to complete quests because they vastly out level you. Typically you should only be doing quests into the yellow level range or below. These you should be able to do solo (sans heroics/flashpoints). There's no rush to get to 50... enjoy the game while you still have one to play.
  3. I find it funny that people buy products with the hope that they will become what they wanted later on. Try that at a car dealership... um sir, I will buy this 20K car now, but if in a months time it doesn't have heated seats, I'm going to return it. If it's not what you wanted when you bought it, why is it going to become what you wanted later on? You either like the game or you don't. I find most claims of quitting because x or y isn't implemented yet to be a hoax. You're still playing the game now, apparently it isn't as game breaking as you make it out to be.

The OP is referring to those quests that pop up into your queue while you are doing other quests... you know, you kill some mob to get to your quest objective and it adds a bonus quest to kill 15 of those types of mobs. *Some* of these quests are only active while the main quest is still active (i.e. not turned in/completed).
  5. The problem is the players are no longer as interested in the social aspects of MMORPGs as they used to be. Proof is in the pudding: They clamor for a cross-realm LFG/Warzone queue system... this by definition is a soloist approach to the game. You don't need to know anyone, just log in, queue up and play. The smaller and smaller requirements for doing end game content also proves this. You don't have 25 friends? Okay, now you only need 10. Don't have 10 friends? We'll make it a 4 man instance instead. They're getting smaller and smaller because people don't play together, they play alone. MMORPGs were always social games... it wasn't the fact that you were in a world with x amount of players around you, it was the fact that you actually interacted with these people in real-time. Needed to get a group to do quests, et al. Now you can pretty much solo everything but end-game content... and darn if that isn't where are the complaints start rolling in... how at end-game there is nothing to do. There is nothing to do for the soloist. Never has been, but the developers are slowly redesigning the game around the soloist player. Soon (already happening in WoW), you will have no reason to even associate with a guild because the queue system will set up all the blind dates for you that you want. People have moved away from the social aspect of the game... and for MMORPGs, the whole reason you would even play one was for the social aspect. It has indeed turned into a single-player game and is not that much different than playing say a RPG game online. You don't socialize in those games either.
  6. Forums are fodder for such things because people are posting from school/work. Obviously if they are playing the game they'd be there and not here. Also, most players never even step one foot in the forums at all. So the people you see here, actually go out of their way to post on the forums... they're usually the same people posting on the other game forums as well... and usually the exact same things!
  7. My first toon was a Shadow Jedi Counselor [balance Spec]. I found that I was playing more from range than in melee range, so at 50, I created a Sage Jedi Counselor [balance Spec]. I'm only level 13 right now, but feel the transition to Sage is going to be the right fit. The only thing I miss is being able to go stealth... but all in all, I'm liking the Sage a lot. Figure out your preferred playstyle and that will help you to choose not only your class but your advanced class in the future. Usually takes playing a particular class as it's advanced class to know for sure if it's a fit for you. Happy gaming!
  8. Yes, but the rumor being spread about in-game and on the forums is that if you use a mod station, it costs less to remove mods from gear than it does to do it out in the world wherever. I personally haven't tried it, but the rumors are out there and if they are true, then the mod stations do still have a purpose.
  9. Add a currency slot to the current Cargo Hold as well as a pulldown menu which allows you to select the Cargo Hold of each character under the same Legacy Name System. This will allow for instant transfer of currency/mats and non-bound or faction/class specific items to any character under the same Legacy Name System (both factions when allowable). You can share faction based items between characters of the same faction (example being say Imperial gear) but not between characters of the opposing faction. Character bound items are restricted to the character that acquired it and non-tradeable. Class based items are restricted to the class and faction that it was created for. In the future, if possible, this feature could further be enhanced to automatically convert Imperial specific gear to it's Republic counterpart if traded to a character of the opposing faction. Same could also be done for class based gear. Mail and the neutral GTN are the only means to transfer items between characters on the same account. This idea would give the Legacy System a really great feature that all players with more than one character would most definitely desire to have.
  10. LOL, why do people buy MMORPG games when they are looking for something else? I mean really, you basically bought a game called "Chess". You can use anything you want for the pieces, anything you want for the board, but in the end, the game is still going to be chess. Why do you expect the game to be any different? Do you expect to tune into a Football game to see chickens and chimpanzees sewing a friendship quilt? Based on how disappointed people are in this game, people obviously expected something other than an MMORPG. Next time you want to buy an MMORPG, go to your local game store, put the contents of Left 4 Dead into the Guild Wars 2 box... then and only then, will be pleasantly surprised that it's not like any other MMORPG you've ever played before.
  11. You know, guilds are just the thing you are looking for... a repository of players who can be in instant contact with one another when looking to run something together. You don't need a LFG queue system if you have guild mates. The root problem with not finding a group is that you spend 99% of your time alone in game out of choice. Have to make friends to have friends to play with.
  12. Happens in WoW too... any time your mouse is over a taskbar item, it always defaults to what you are hovered over instead of what you have keybound. It thinks you are attempting to click on the mouse-overed button. Only way to defeat that is to not mouse-over any UI buttons while clicking. The UI customization coming in the future will make it so that you can move/scale your UI elements so that they are where you want them and not in your way.
  13. Actually not all orange gear is equal. A level 12 orange item comes with x amount of base armor plus all the slots to add additional stats to that. A level 48 orange item comes with y amount of base armor plus the slots to add additional stats to that. A level 48 orange is always going to start off with more armor than a level 12 orange item. So technically speaking, not all oranges are equal.
  14. LOL, and how is the world any more static than actual players at level 50 all standing around waiting for queues to pop? The mall is only active because people are in it doing stuff... take away the people and it gets pretty static. You want activity? Fill it up with your friends. Duel. Dance. Run around in circles. It's only static because you let it be.
  15. In regards to changing one's advanced class... It tells you that you cannot change this the moment that you are afforded the opportunity to choose one. I think where people are confused is that they see talent trees as something one can willy nilly adjust at will... well your talent trees are not even available to you until you choose a advanced class, so in essence, it's akin to choosing a class when starting out gameplay... only it happens at level 10. It's not the same thing as choosing a spec and then later wishing to respec it. If you'll notice, your choice of advanced class decides what 3 talent trees are given to you. The advanced classes don't share any trees between them. When you respec talent trees, you are changing the talents of the 3 trees of your class... well in SWTOR, your class is your advanced class, not merely your class. People always said they wanted SWTOR to be different from WoW, well it is, and this is just one prime example.
  16. Mod stations are going to be removed from the game. It should cost exactly the same to remove the same exact mod from the same exact piece of gear whether you do it at a mod station or out in the world somewhere.
  17. Armor rating is usually the base stat on orange gear... the value of said rating is usually based on the minimum player level required to equip said item. So in essence, there is a difference between orange armor as you level up because a level 43 item carries more base armor (stripped of all mods) than a level 12 item would (stripped of all mods). In most cases, it's not worth stripping out the mods to transfer to the new item because the items available at the higher levels are going to have higher values than your previous mods carried.
  18. Wait until you get to some of the other planets... where quests deemed level X are actually harder than the ones deemed 2 levels higher than your level. Basically it comes down to this... they are attempting to force you to play your character a little differently than you are used to. Some situations require a specific companion or crowd control or even kiting to be successful. Earlier levels it didn't matter as much. As you progress in the game, it does. Maybe some of your talents are better suited to certain types of mobs than others. I'm Force based so when I run across a mob that is Force immune, it means I have to resort to more melee abilities to kill it. Some mobs require that you interrupt certain abilities or you are basically toast. If you interrupt, they die, if you don't, you die.
  19. The problem with the Dungeon Finder idea is that there is no cross-server anything in game, which means you're stuck with just your own server as a pool. If no one on your server cares to even run them, well, having a Dungeon Finder is no more effective than putting a LFG tag next to your name in the /who list. The issue is that people are less and less inclined to grind anything... be it dailies or what have you. They've done it for eons in other games and quite frankly they know that next week something new is added for them to grind after making the previous week's efforts null and void. If doing dailies is a chore, Flashpoints and Heroics and Raids should be a chore because in essence, you are repeating the same content, over and over. I think all MMOs are coming to the realization that players like to play on their own terms and at their own pace... in essence, by themselves with an open chat channel. The content that got people to play the game is the stuff you did from 1-50, not the stuff you do at 50. If the end game was all that, they'd start everyone off at 50 and say, here's your dungeons et al, have fun and see you in about 4 months when we add some new ones. What people crave is more 1-50 stuff... they want to continue playing the game, not grinding stuff. Wouldn't it be awesome if there was no level cap? You always had more class quests to do, more quests in general. Quests that took you to new worlds, returned you to old ones. No more of this, ignore every zone you've ever been in that is below your level because no one thought to have more quests there... in an instanced fashion so that low levels don't run into high level mobs and high levels don't run into low level mobs. What if the zones leveled with you? Mobs that grew in stats just as you do. Level 50? No mobs around you are less than level 50 no matter what zone you are in. Rescale the worlds... starter world is now level 50 and so on and so forth... you could rinse repeat almost endlessly... playing the game... not grinding the game. If there is no cap to what level you can be, there is no race to get there. Crafting levels become endless. The best way to describe it would be playing say WoW, after 12 years of production... meaning they don't rescale leveling or anything, you have 12 years worth of content to play before you even see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's why we buy expansions... for the new content, I don't think anyone is buying an expansion because of some raid they get to do... that's just the left overs.
  20. I'd start by asking those people you know to be playing it there as they did something right and you did something wrong. Odds are you have a localized version of the game, meaning it was meant for distribution within a certain region and will not run outside of that region. Just a guess, but that's what it sounds like to me. Again, if you know for a fact someone is playing the game in your area, talk to them. They can tell you what they did to get up and running and perhaps identify why you can't.
  21. The issue with crafted items is that unless they are BOP, anyone can equip them... meaning, why raid or do heroics if all you need to do is buy some item off the GTN? Crafting would normally be something of value as one leveled up, but the gear is handed out in quests so frequently and you level so quickly that it really makes the gear pointless in short order. Crafting is a hobby, you either enjoy the mundane nature of it or you don't. You're not going to become some pivotal role in deciding the fate of a hard mode raid, et al. If you were, you'd negate the purpose of raiding, et al in the process.
  22. I think one can say with 100% certainty that the encounter caused your death. LOL, combat log says... "You died."
  23. On a PVP server, you have contested zones in which players can attack other players. You also have Ilum which is a PVP zone in it's entirety. The problem with the concept of PVP in general out in the world is that you are instanced in the game, thus you may not even be in an instance where there are opposing faction players to even attack. All in all, the only place you are guaranteed PVP is in a Warzone. If you expect to see a lot of the opposing faction as you level up on a PVP server... good luck with that. I saw maybe 20 the entire time while leveling from 1-50... and only 3 of them actually attacked anyone. Not the sort of mayhem one would have expected on a PVP server. It's more like PVE with the slight possibility of ganking when the server is full.
  24. The operative word you're all grabbing for is *advantage*... everyone wants to play with an advantage... be it through gear, class, racials, gimmicks, exploits... what have you. If everything was truly equal and fair... you'd have a stalemate. You say you want things to be equal but if you have to spam everything for 30 minutes straight on one another and still no one is dead... well you'd find it far more frustrating than getting beat down in a split second for all eternity.
  25. Before you head to a new planet, look at it's level range. If it says for levels 32-35 and you are only level 30, you've missed something OR had your friends help you do quests that you shouldn't have been doing at your level. You should be able to do all your quests solo... excluding flashpoints and heroics. You also probably missed the bonus series quests... they show up when you've completed most if not all of the quests on the planet AND meet certain level requirements. If you power level through the place, you may never see the bonus series quests because you aren't high enough a level to do them yet. Get into the habit of clearing your way to your quest objectives... it reveals extra quests that you would not normally get if you just clicked on this node because that's all the quest told you to do. Explore areas... some quests are given if you venture into an area... in some cases, none of your quests would even send you into these areas. If you merely do JUST what the quests tell you to do, kill only 5 bugs, then yes, you will come up short on XP. Because the assumption is, you'd be killing the stuff around the 5 bugs as well, not avoiding mobs.
