  1. Guild capital ships. Coming soon to a galaxy near you (maybe)... Ask for them by name. Also ask for an in game guild vs guild space and boarding "invasion" PVP option to attack other guild capital ships.
  2. Wow.... Just wow. It was advertised as HAVING that feature ... but they were INCREDIBLY savvy in their marketing not to mention all the features it lacked. Your argument is like saying its ok to buy a car with a cool sunroof when the media focused on its cool sunroof, but ignored the fact it had no steering wheel or heat/air, and came with 4 square tires and a triangular spare. In MMOs today, some standard features are just intuitively expected to be there. You cannot fault folks for wanting the game because its star wars. Personally, I never cared about or wanted voice acting. It's just not a selling point to me. And that in no way means I am wrong to buy it. No MMO can survive as a one trick pony. As a consumer, my vote is to back off the over use of cutscenes on every quest, and limit them to meaningful story arcs, and free up those resources for more depth and breadth of features.
  3. The game is 3 months old. Bioware is still funneling most of their revenue stream into paying off several years worth of upfront development costs before the game can start to actually go into the black and the investors start to see a real ROI. At 3 months old, it is on par with where it should be content-wise. Of course its not going to have the content and features yet of a more mature product, but they all have to start somewhere. Look at the game as it stands now as a foundation for what it *can* be, instead of a single player game that is all it will ever be at release. As a lvl 50 with several Ops runs and gear under my belt, (and 14+ years of MMO background), my biggest incentives to play an mmo are the people i meet, and relationships I foster in game. I've made numerous real friendships through the years, and we can keep up with one another online and do things together in the virtual world that we can't do otherwise. To me, that's the things that transcend the world, and last long after someone at EA shuts down the servers. As for what to do? Spend time with friends.... 'Nuff said.
  4. To the original poster. (Especially since I'm browsing / typing on my phone and not reading the whole thread.) It's an MMO ... They are NEVER a "finished" game. Part of the investment as a player is making a commitment to the game and company to buy into their "vision" for an ever evolving gameworld. So yes, pre 1.2 it was an unfinished game. Just like EQ1 is still an unfinished game, 14 years and 10s of millions of development dollars later. Just like WoW post-kungfu pandas will still be unfinished. I hope to God SWToR is unfinished. Because i've already got my kindergartener daughter's character name on reserve for when she's big enough to start playing too, and I hope SWToR can pull that off. As for stuff, well, a title is pretty cool. That's more than some games give.... /cough Trion /cough.
  5. I don't see a built in "recount" system as anything except a crutch. Personal use stuff for those who just want one for themselves, sure, go for it. All I've ever seen a group one do is ostracize folks - they're MUCH more prone to error and misuse than valid data. Too much headache, hassle, and elitism comes from them for me to want to bother with one.
  6. I would be on board with that too. Vulcans would make excellent Jedi.
  7. For a new class idea, I would personally like to see a medium armor Jedi tank / heal class. Jedi Priest base class that can become a Jedi monk or crusader advanced class. The monk could be a force healer that uses light or medium armor and fights unarmed - maybe with main and offhand focus generators equippable, but is primarily a healer. Crusader could be a medium armor dual-wielding tank with attacks that heal himself and his companions/group - like the Crusader from Warhammer, and Justicar from Rift. The base priest class could have various aura buffs that effect the party, useable 1 at a time.
  8. Go run Taral V and Maelstrom. Yoda is not a unique embodiment of the force. He is just another species. Personally, I want to be a jawa Jedi guardian. Their racial ability could be a 10% reduction in all vendor purchases from a haggling discount.
  9. And half the ones you complete auto assign you 3 or 4 more you also cannot abandon. My opinion on them was that the dev team spent lots of money on the cutscenes and voice acting for them, so once we got them, we were all "by God GOING" to do them. My solution was to just stop clicking on any questgivers in a new planet except for class specific quests. I spent tens of hours going back through grays to clear my quest log. It's awful that the quest system is such that folks would actively avoid questgivers for fear of "entrapment".
  10. No. But they do create content and features based on how much money they have available in the "content account".
  11. No one is arguing that. Please go read the thread. I haven't seen anyone mention or care about development time. Let's make it really simple. Say you have $100. And you take that $100 and spend $50 of it on script writers and actors to read your scripts. That only leaves you $50 to go towards actually improving the game. All we're asking is to put $85 towards making the game better, and put $15 towards cut scenes for the "really important" stuff.
  12. I'm in IT as well, and have been a COBOL programmer dating back 25 years ago when we used to call those things "JCL" ... But I don't try to force that terminology onto the MMO industry. For what you are saying, and how MMOs function on the front end, when everyone else says macro, its just a general term setting parameters to actions (like changing the default Target) or other actions as defined within the scope of various games. But I think trying to throw some other term out there specific to your experience at your jobsite, just tends to confuse and dilute the issue.
  13. Those "minor advantages in animation" have already resulted in a herd of Sith wearing full battlemaster, and a herd of republic foregoing PVP altogether. Hopefully it will be recoverable if they make warzones based on valor in addition to lvl at lvl 50, but I don't think that's on the list for 1.2
  14. I've been playing MMOs for 14 years, and never heard of a micro. I don't know what one is, and don't like the term. The problem I see with the game is some classes only have a few abilities that need to be used to be effective, while others, (like guardian tanks) have 25+ different abilities including situational defensive cooldowns that are all on various timers and all have to be micro managed to be effective. I shouldn't need a dozen keybinds plus a mouse with another dozen buttons to be able to play a class effectively. I do NOT want commands "linked" to one another such that one button press fires off a sequence of activations. I WOULD like a triage system like Trion did with Rift, that would triage some of my several dozen abilities down into 8 or 9 quickslot buttons, so I can activate them as a function of task to perform vs. continually watching 4 action bars worth of cooldowns instead of the fight.
  15. I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I bought SWToR is because my brother got it and drug me away from WoW if i wanted to continue playing with him. The VO stuff is a neat gimmick, but it is by no means anything i ever asked for or cared about as a feature. I also happen to like Star Wars as a universe and a genre, so i was cool with a good amount of the ongoing bugs and general lack of features as MMOs go. But I agree with the OP that going forward, I would much prefer the dev team to put their resources into actual features instead of more videos. I know we're all different. It's clear some of you think the current features and content are fine. I think the game is lacking depth and breadth, and no amount of cutscenes can make up for that. As such, I would prefer the dev team to focus resources on additional features, vs. additional cutscenes and voiceovers.
  16. What do you mean by "watched" and "even rewatched a few". My point isn't folks don't watch them at all. I imagine everyone watches them all at least once or twice. My point is that after watching them repeatedly, every day for dailies, every FP, every Op, over and over, folks just space through them to get them out of the way.
  17. Answer truthfully. How many of you watch the voiceovers and cinematics, every time, when you do the quests? And how often do you just spacebar through them as fast as you can to move on and get the video out of the way. The OP never said they were bad, just not to let them get in the way of better play features. Cut scenes are good, but they do not keep people playing for years. Features do. And right now, outside of the cut scenes, this game does not have any features to set it apart, or even remain competitive once folks have seen all the cutscenes a few dozen times.
  18. Haderach. I chose it because my character name is Kwisatz.
  19. I read the upcoming changes as being more along the lines of fundamental class changes and restructuring. Maybe removing and re-aligning several of the several dozen abilities we have now, restructuring the trees, and giving it all back as something re-engineered and useful. Not just lumping a new batch of abilities on top of the mismatch of skillsets we have now.
  20. The possibility of a jawa Jedi guardian MAY cause me to rethink cancelling my subscription.
  21. So what makes this Lucas guy so special like he can just "decree" something and everyone just caves in and goes along with his opinion like he owns the place.
  22. 1.2 seems to me like its mostly the residual things that were on the table for a while, but got chopped from release to meet schedule. They're just now finishing them up, so its just a bunch of older items to finally go live. Neat, sure, I guess. But hardly groundbreaking.... Guild vaults .... /golf clap. Standard feature in games since DAoC in 2001. But sure, I'm glad you folks got it worked out.
  23. Of the 3 (or maybe 4) most recent MMO's I've played: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning - Recruit a Friend: Exclusive Griffon Mount - Order Side Exclusive Chimera Mount - Chaos Side Exclusive XP Bonus stick (to use on your friend) And some other exclusive something-or-other World of Warcraft: Exclusive Companion Pet ?? (I think - hard to remember) Exclusive Zherva Mount Exclusive 2-person flying rocket-mount Rift: Exclusive Cool Wide-brimmed Wardrobe-slot hat Exclusive Mount (I think, hard to remember) Something else I've forgotten. Point being, all of those offered some reasonable level of consideration for asking us to go out of our way, and put our reputation on the line as marketing agents to our friends, marketing their product. Insider marketing - our friends are more likely to try a product when it's recommended by someone they know and trust vs. some nameless ad on a TV - and hell, tossing someone a cool - exclusive in-game mount only costs the company a few hours of some developer's time to come up with a new exclusive in-game model. From their side, that shiny new 120% speeder is essentially a zero cost item, especially since they'll likely re-use the model, slap a different skin on it, and toss it in as a chest drop from some nightmare mode operation to get multi-use from their development dime. My post from this morning wasn't in any way meant as angry, only truthful. At this point in the game, I don't feel SWToR is a mature enough product for me to honestly go out of my way to recommend it to my friends and sign my name to that recommendation, risking the trust of my friends on future products. The industry standard, across the industry, whether gaming, IT or otherwise, is if you ask someone to provide you with a service, the polite and reasonable gesture to make in return is some acknowledgement that you're asking the person to go out of their way and provide a benefit for the work and word they're putting in for your company. This is a business. Anyone who thinks it's a game is kidding themselves. I recruited several friends to RIFT, even pre-beta. Most are still there. At release RIFT had more features, fewer bugs, smoother framerates, better combat, and a much better character development system than SWToR has now. I felt comfortable recruiting my entire guild onto RIFT along with me, long before there was ever a recruit a friend program there - so if the game is good, sure I'll recruit folks. To date, the only "new and novel" thing I've seen in SWToR is their "Story" - which by 50 folks can't mash their spacebars fast enough to skip through it and get it out of the way.
  24. What stuff? I've seen no mention of incentives. If they want me to go out and bother people I know, and become a salesman, for their product, to my friends, then no. I hate getting telemarketing phone calls, or folks emailing me trying to sell me something, all they want is me to - out of the kindness of my heart - go be their sales agent and telemarketer to my circle of friends, providing them with free marketing and sales, for no return on my time. My friends and family are a valuable market commodity of real dollar value. I already pay a subscription to access their product, now they want my contact info too, for free? No deal.
  25. As a tank, I couldn't care less about dps, in and of itself, most of the time. But I do care a lot about threat generation. And that has issues. I cannot maintain threat against dps using columni and rakatta weapons except during the windows where I am forcing the mobs to attack me, and that needs to be looked at. I don't care if they fix it with upgrading Soresu to +100%, adding more +threat attacks than hilt strike, giving us a self-only +threat damage shield, or upping dps. I don't care how, but some piece needs work. I also agree with whoever posted that its annoying as hell trying to be a melee tank when a large percentage of mob mechanics is the knockback with snare. That is a MUCH larger issue for guardians than Vanguards who either aren't getting hit with melee to start with, or just keep shooting and ignore it.
