  1. They are "wrong" choices in your mind. You have to remember that this is a problem with many facets. It is certainly possible that everyone at bioware is a complete idiot. They go to work, they look at the forums, they see what everyone wants, and do the opposite. I doubt this is the case, in fact i think the forums are just part of a much bigger equation. Bioware has talked about data a lot. They collect data on everything, what in game features are being used, where people are running, and where people are dying. they know how long everyone is waiting for ques, and they know how many points every bounty hunter is getting in PVP. So when someone logs onto the forums and says "BH are op they kill everything all the time in every fight OMG OP OP OP" Bioware can look at the numbers and determine that 1.) the guy is right, BH are murdering everyone in PVP 2.) the guy sucks at PVP, and just thinks BH are better because they always kill him Now game time compensation does not fit the above build, but i was trying to convey that we do not have the entire picture here. Regardless i stand by my comment, people who claim that Bioware only cares about money and therefore will neglect the game/player base are dead wrong. Bioware needs customers to make money, and customers will only pay if they are happy, so bioware needs people to be happy. That being said they do not need you to be happy, if what will make you happy will make others sad. It also does not account for bioware not being able to make people happy, due to technical difficulties or limitations.
  2. I am not usually a grammar Nazi, and if you had said something like most amazing-est, or most annoying-est, or even most best, I would have let it slide. But if you are going to attack the intelligence behind a design decision, then it would be best to not sound like an idiot. If something is already the described as the pinnacle (using the suffix "est"), which in your case would be "50s only warzones" being the dumbest thing you have ever seen, then "most" is both pointless and incorrect. That being said i would like to see a tiered bracket PVP structure implemented. For levels 40-50, 30-39, and so forth.
  3. I do not understand this idea, perhaps economics/business needs to be a required course in more countries/colleges. Unhappy playerbase = less time subbed = less money Since these are all equal, you can shorten it to - unhappy player base = less money OR Happy player base = more time subbed = more money Happy player base = more money. So if Bioware wants "more money" and "more money" is equal to "happy player base" then Bioware wants you to be happy. The idea that bioware is in this game for the short term is crazy. They are in it for the long haul. That being said their capability to make all the needed changes/patches and make the right choices for everyone to be happy is the hard part. Bioware wants to make you happy(because remember happiness is money), they just do not always know how, or cannot always do it in a small enough amount of time, or they get conflicting ideas about what to include or change. So quit it with the whole "Bioware only wants money, they are not going to help us". Trust me, if you are correct, and Bioware really only wants money, they will spend every second trying to make you happy, but the key word there is trying. They could fail, but it wont be because Bioware only wants money.
  4. He was okay with the concept of a giant space station shooting lazers and blowing up planets, but calling someone a sorceror was taking it too far. They are called jedi knights. It should be awfully clear that the game is set in a fantasy scifi setting. if anything the guns are out of place, seeing as how the best warriors use swords.
  5. Unfortunately you are out of luck, you are really just going to need a new/more powerful computer to run the game. With a laptop upgrades are really tough to do, because laptop motherboards are non standard/case specific. Besides ram and HDDs, you really need to know what you are doing if you are going to pull apart a laptop, more so than a desktop. You need a much faster GPU, which i do not believe will fit in your Laptop, and will not have sufficient cooling. Id recommend a new desktop, but i can also recommend a few laptops that will run the game on minimum settings and will not break the bank (under 1000). If you have monitor and other things like mouse/keyboard you could build a desktop that will run the game for around 650 after tax/shipping, and windows.
  6. i just read someone claiming that it was the 6900s with the AA issue, but the 5870 is the precursor to the 6970 so it may suffer from the same issues. To be honest i am not sure how the hardware interacts with the drivers, but you do have a very similar card to the 6900 series so it would not be a stretch to say you could be suffereing from a related issue. Regardless they are working with AMD to get it sorted. Good luck! Also you can easily go into the Catalyst control center and force AA, it will make a huge difference!
  7. Apple products are far from cheap, and they do not look "cool" Not to mention that AMD has the most expensive single GPU on the market, and also the fastest single GPU. Personally i go by Bang for buck. And frankly 6950s in crossfire is a damn good setup, it benches 25% faster than a GTX 580 and does it for less than 125% of the cost. Bulldozer is one story, but there are a number of AMD products that excel in gaming, regardless of your experience. Just look at the benchmarks. I buy what is the best deal at the time for what i need to do, be it green or red, AMD or intel, if it works it works.
  8. I wonder if you are biased against AMD? LOL.
  9. Pretty sure it was designed to work on almost any computer.... It does not make sense to throw half of your market under the bus. Really it will come down to driver support, and for a game this big, its just a waiting game. My guess is new AMD drivers will be out soon and will really improve the performance on their side of things. BTW Rocking an AMD 6950 with great FPS.
  10. Oh i am blowing everything but fleet out of the water, what i was trying to say was that Overclocking did not help on fleet, unlike everywhere else where i gained almost 10 FPS.
  11. I was not trying to give advice, i was asking a question, and wanted to create a place where people could discuss their Overclocks. Honestly i really do not care if this thread dies or not... Its just that i dont think starting it at 930 am was giving it a fair chance. I agree that there are better places to find Overclocking advice, but they can be a bit more intimidating. I've been a member of the following site for a while now, and its a great resource. http://forum.overclock3d.net/index.php?/forum/83-overclocking/ And as for overclocking being an art, it is not on sandy bridge, as you just increase the FSB or muliplier to your hearts content with a voltage bump. But on X58/X79 platforms and even AMD systems id say getting a solid OC with very low volts can take enough tweaking to make it an art, as much as many other things that are considered an art.
  12. Bump, posted this in the early morning and it did not get much traffic.
  13. Reserved for great example.
  14. Overclocking is the art of pushing hardware beyond its rated specifications, and that is what this thread is about. That and performance gains in SWTOR due to overclocking. So for those of us who want to get every penny (and other forms of small denomination for those of us who are blessed not to live in the US) out of our computers and/or just see what our PC can do, overclocking is a nice way to see tangible benefits in games and synthetic benchmarks. In SWTOR I was getting low FPS in fleet with the settings maxed (20-40 FPS) and i wanted to see if my CPU (1100T) was throttling my system. So I decided to overclock my CPU and test the difference. There really was no difference in performance on fleet. I saw nice gains in other locations of about 10 FPS in any given location. However, In the past I have overclocked Intel chips (and one Athlon II 215 lol), and I have never done such a substantial overclock on an AMD chip, so I wanted to create a thread where I, and others in the same boat as me, could post their overclocks and discuss stability, voltages, temperatures and methods of achieving the various clock-speeds. Please post the following if you have a question regarding your overclock. 1.) If you used a manual or auto overclock 2.) Motherboard 3.) CPU 4.) PSU 5.) GPU (if you are overclocking it) 6.) RAM (and if you overclocked it as well) 7.) heat dissipation method 8.) TEMPS - and the program you are using for temps 9.) Whatever you used to stress test 10.) CPU-Z Volt readout 11.) Multiplier/FSB 12.) Volts Please note that overclocking your hardware can physically damage it and even destroy it. This thread is a discussion only. Overclock at your own risk. So here are my specs, and my question for all of those AMD boys out there. 1100T phenom 2 @ 3.9 GHZ at 1.468 Volts (CPUZ-1.524) Sabertooth 990FX ASUS MOBO 8GB Gskill DDR3 1600Mhz @1333 (just while i stability test my overclocks, i only want one factor at a time) Noctua NH-D14 Prime 95 Stability test Core temp and Thermal radar. XFX XXX PRO 750w 80plus silver (Seasonic designed) I was Stable at 4.3,4.2,4.1, and 4.0 GHZ, but all required 1.485 Volts or greater (1.50 for 4.3) and were producing very high temps under full load for 30 mins or more. Thermal radar was claiming that my CPU would reach 65 Degrees Celsius with a 71 degree vcore 1! But i am not sure how accurate this is, because Core temp had the temps a full 10 degree lower, at 55 degrees, which is within the 1100T's 62 Degree threshold. Anyways that kind of temps and volts were just not worth it in my opinion if i could drop down to 1.468 and still get 3.9 Ghz. (i may be able to lower the volts, but i am still stability testing at 3.9 Ghz) My North bridge is overclocked to i think 2650 or 2700 or so after i lowered the FSB to get 3.9GHZ. So my question is, Is thermal radar 100 percent accurate, or is it most likely a bit high and Coretemp is a bit low, so the temp is really somewhere in the middle? P.S. Do not forget to post your gains in SWTOR! This is SWTOR's forum, and therefore should be related to how overclocking helped your SWTOR performance/experience! Thank you Bioware for such a great game. GL for everyone's overclock!
  15. I am all for more UI customization, but why would we hold back content that is not broken that we could be playing while they work on the UI? Bioware cannot and should not focus on one single thing. For you the game breaking thing may be the UI, but for another it could be responsiveness, and for another it could be quest bugs. If bioware just focused on the UI they would alienate everyone who felt that was not the top issue. Bioware has been doing a pretty good job of seeing issues and letting us know that they are working on our various complaints, but this is not the 1 step at a time program. Bioware must fix bugs, add content, and streamline the game all at the same time, which is obviously what they have been trying to do with every patch since launch and 1.1. So guys, take a deep breath, and enjoy the game. And if the bugs/UI/resonisveness start to be too much, take a break, play some skyrim or whatever floats your boat, and realize this game is about having fun for years to come, this game is cross country not a sprint. You do not need to play it every second of every day. I have found that at a play time of an hour or so a day i never get frustrated by bugs, and PVP has remained fun, (even if my level 27 gets rocked by level 50s lol)
  16. I tried to answer your post. let me be more specific. 1.) yes crossfire will improve performance once the drivers get fixed 2.) No there should not be any issues with artifacts once drivers get better. That being said the laptop that you are looking at is not a great gaming laptop, thats why i offered other suggestions. Even if everything works as planned with the dual GPUs you will still get poor performance with that PC.
  17. I would not recommend this for gaming. Instead i would opt for this. Unless you have more cash. http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP5165 This would be even better. http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_info&model_name=NP8130 To be honest if you want a gaming laptop you are going to have to fork over at least 1k dollars IMO.
  18. There are lots of laptops that utilize Crossfire. Please let me know which you are talking about or i cannot help you.
  19. Why do reviews even matter? If you like the game play it. If there are some things you want improved, let the devs know on the forums. if you hate the game, leave. Simple. Those reviews mean that bioware did what it intended at 85% success rate. But it may still be 85% of fail if you hate the game. Personally i love the game, and i would love it if it got a 5/10.
  20. epic post alert gi joe in da house
  21. The sand demon wiped the floor with my face a few times, im not going to lie. I guess i am not as pro as you.
  22. What laptop are you planning on getting?
  23. It may not be the same writers, developers, or directors, but if a company has a tradition of excellence it is not unreasonable to assume that they would consider hiring only the best. Sure A company will still produce some duds, but overall i have been very impressed with Biowares offerings. I do not chalk this up to randomness. Bioware has always adheared to the idea of a good story rpg, and they have a good record in my book of delivering on that, even if the coders and directors change from game to game. Ferrari has had various engineers, but they for the most part build what most would consider to be Ferraris. The same can be said for the Corvettes, look at the 1995 ZR1 and the 2011 ZR1, two different designers, hell two different philosophies (1995 had a double overhead cam 36 valve setup because people kept complaining about the corvette's pushrod setup) but both dominated the competition, in and out of their price range. I think you need to rethink your definition of "absurd" because brand loyalty is not that crazy of an idea. Sure if the next ferrari launched and was a complete turd, i would not buy it (assuming i had the money lol) but i would also be surprised based on their track record. And that surprised aspect comes from a completely reasonable perspective of judging a company on its previous products. I understand that you should judge a product on its merits alone, but expectations are another thing entirely.
  24. That is not really how it works, you might see different performance or FPS, and you may notice a difference between Catalyst and Nvida control panel (unless you supplement with nvidia inspector), but with the same exact settings the game should look exactly the same minus frame rate on a gfx card capable of running DX9. Think of them more as car engines. Some companies use V8s and others will turbo v6s, but both produce horsepower and torque. And as long as they produce the same amount of each, a V8 and V6 will perform the same and only sound different (of course this is over simplified, i am well aware of other factors such as weight and turbo lag). This is how a GPU works, it renders what it is told to render, so the settings determine what is being rendered not the GPU. Be it ATI or Nvidia both will produce the same visual results provided they are being told to render the same settings.
