  1. Definitely, they basically took the 4 character class system from basic Dungeons and Dragons that other games have used modified it slightly and tried their best to put into a Star Wars wrapper to maximize mass market appeal. The class stories are cool but in terms of customization and enjoying combat animations and action I find myself missing City of Heroes.
  2. That wouldn't work since the cat is already out of the bag. You however could expand on the current stories as DLC and sell that on the market. Folks like me would gladly spend some cartel coins for more quests of that nature.
  3. I like STO. IF you really enjoy space combat then STO is good, I also like exploring more there than here (like more open planets). I also like the free play of STO more than here, the limitations on experience, crafting, money and storage space really bug me here so I try to play only with a subscription. With STO however, I don't really think the rewards of having a subscription are worth it. If your a casual player you can do pretty well with the quest award starships and gear. If you get sick of that then you can either grind or pay some big bucks at the shop for a better star ship once in a while.
  4. Couldn't they take one of the old servers from the old days, reformat it and create Harbinger II and see if it is more reliable than Harbinger?
  5. Why does this game receive so much hate? I like the game too, but it gets 2nd or 3rd place depending on my mood. Reasons for hate 1) the huge development budget is a source of scorn for many. i,e, "Tortanic" 2) The Wow killer designation naturally attracted a lot of hate from Wow folks 3) "We are building our MMO on the neglected pillar of story" is another. I love class stories etc. but the mechanic led to 4... 4) Game that plays like a single player RPG. I don't have the same fun grouping as I did in other games like the original Guild Wars and City of Heroes. And as many folks say, that kind of is much of the point of an MMO. And of course other people will talk about bugs, Pvp, etc. PS - I never really liked the world design either. It's too narrow like the old Guild-wars, where most places feel like your walking down a corridor or moving through a maze or labyrinth.
  6. Well I'm with the complainers on the 20$ black dye maneuver. That pretty hard to justify if you are a veteran of the old MMOs where such things were readily available, of if you were really into the whole customizing your character thing that games like City of Heroes catered to. I can see some possibility to use micro-transactions for this sort of thing to generate extra income because of F2p but really charging more for a one use item than a subscription goes for.... It really looks like there is some serious boundary testing going on.
  7. I don't know.... complaining about a MMO's lack of end game is a bit of a truism. Its like complaining that TV networks eventually end up showing re-runs. And I'm really not sure how well even the ones that are or were supposedly good at this really are. (Basically how much time out of the gate do they need to develope it?) . Also so much of the "end game" can simply get realm vs. realm. And I have to say, some of my most boring time I've had gaming in a MMO was with my guidlies in Dark Age waiting to lay ambush for the other side....... I actually logged out and claimed it was a disconnect just to escape the boredom on at least one occasion.
  8. Thanks I thought I might be being a little paranoid, but It sometimes pays to be a little cautious.
  9. I tried to ask this on the official crafting board but got only one response, so posting here for more input. The question is can I permanently screw up my skills with my account lapsed if I check out now that its in F2p mode? (I let my account lapse to take a break from the game for a few months. I would like to take a look at my characters and maybe try test playing them, but I'm unsure of the mechanics of what it does to your crew skills. I'm basically asking if my scores will snap back to their original scores or not when I re-sub again in 3-6 months)
  10. My account is lapsing tonight and I should be taking a break from the game for 3-6 months. I don't think I want to do the F2p, although I have morbid curiosity and sort of want to check out what my characters are like when the account slips to free. I'm however a bit worried of unintentionally screwing up my crafting skills. Which for most characters are max or near max (I tend to have all characters as potion making biotechers). Anyway in what I've read so far from FAQs and posting I'm a little unsure of the mechanics of this is handled. Specifically if log into a character when the sub is up, and come back later will it remember my old crafting level when I sub again? Or will it be permanently lowered when I momentarily accessed it in free mode? I'm probably paranoid but I've learned to be careful of game mechanics.....
  11. lol I actually imagine it could be a revamping of the old "Space War" and "Asteroids" video games http://www.classicgamesarcade.com/game/21612/asteroids.html That after all allows for both multiplayer and pvp.
  12. I guess you need to qualify if your talking about behavior on the board vs. in game behavior or some combination of both. With the boards, I think its people just being sick of people grand standing, making overly dramatic posts etc. Or on the other side being mindless fanbois of Bioware etc. In game I think its just basic Social Psychology at work. You've got anonymity. In some areas competition for limited resources (people complaining about kill stilling for Dailies as an example). And when added together that is just going to make it worse. And contrary to a few posters, I think F2P has made it worse. (Not in a huge way, but a few notches worse). Because of F2p, I think we got a crop of younger players that have not been schooled in etiquette and netiquette.
  13. By the way I love TV Tropes! But the OP is wrong. If there was a true base I actually think it was KOTOR fans and I think there could be some argument for that. In terms of hardcore MMO fans, this game just tried to mimic what Wow and others have been doing. I don't see that as hard core, in fact fans of that type of gaming would say this game is a bad imitation of the previous games they've played. With this game and my previous MMO City of, I see much more of a case for the opposite of this trope. It's the opposite of the "bird in the hand is better than two in the bush". Game developers are often tempted to change a game to broaden its appeal to get a large market of untapped players and in doing this they can alienate their long term paying customers.
  14. Actually Dark Age of Camelot beat Wow on that one. (people rushing to level up for realm vs. realm).
