  1. From the other thread: So yep, PVP only. That takes almost a lot of the excitement for it away for me, but still glad for those of you that are excited for it.
  2. They removed it? That sucks. It was the only thing I was looking forward to getting. I like the BH customization for him, but it's overpriced, and I think the Czerka one looks terrible. This one was the best looking one so far.
  3. Pretty much the only thing I was looking forward to purchasing. Now I get to farm for it? Yay...
  4. This, very much so. One of the main things that kept me playing that game (although there were many reasons), was that if I could come up with a concept for a character, I could pretty much make it. I made a better version of one of my D&D characters in that game than I've ever been able to in any fantasy MMO. I made an X-Wing pilot, Jedi knight, and Luke in a "blast shield down" outfit that all looked better than anything I've been able to make here. I had robots, an ape police officer, a plant man, a demon, a mime, and so much more. I had servers full of characters that I never actually played, but that I just had to make when I got the idea (when you make a gun-toting jester and call him the Pun-isher you just know he's going to get generic'd the instant you get him out into public). Heck, just the other day i was a little saddened because I came up with an idea (Peter Parkour) that will never see the light of day, and this morning a friend e-mailed me saying he wished CoH was still around so he could make Tony Starch, Ironing Man. I don't know how I'd feel about customization in this game if I'd never played CoH. There are games that are worse (looking at you, Neverwinter), but most of what they do here could be done so much better.
  5. I find it kind of annoying that one of the reasons they gave for not making alien speaking playable races was because hearing them speak in all of the dialogues got annoying really fast, but apparently having Treek, who babbles incoherently, non-stop, when you spend far more time in combat than dialogues, is o.k. I would much rather put up with a wookiee growling through some dialogues that I can just read and spacebar through than Treek's constant chattering. But on-topic, annoying-ness aside, I find Treek pretty useful.
  6. I was actually just wondering this myself today.
  7. Sorry, you only have a chance for the excited color dye pack. You might end up with jealous, sad, suspicious, or any other number of moods instead...
  8. I'd second the idea of giving smaller (yet significant) amounts away, especially on the starter planets. I wouldn't worry if they're subscribers or not. It's a random act of kindness like that that can form a new players opinion on the game and the community. Something similar happened to me when I started playing CoH, and it stuck with me. When I got to a point where I could do that, I'd often give back to players that were very obviously new, and I do it here as well.
  9. I find it funny that someone's defending one of the poor design aspects of the dye system by citing another poor design aspect of the dye system.
  10. Count me in on this. I won't spend anything on a chance to get a decent dye. If they added them to collections they could actually get some money from me. Of course I'd rather see them come up with a better dye system overall, but I doubt that will ever happen.
  11. Hey Eric, So does this mean the original plan has been completely scrapped and you're looking for something different, or that the technical issues are still being worked on?
  12. And apparently it bears repeating to you, since I've already given you examples of how other providers in this exact same industry do it far better. Let's look at one specifically. I'll use the City of Heroes veteran rewards program, because I'm most familiar with that one. As an 18 month subscriber (which you would be in this game), here's what I would have received: 6 Badges (titles) 5 Costume change tokes (make as many changes as you like, no cost) 10 Costume pieces (some of these are sets, so it's actually far more than that) 2 Powers (1 a new ability, 1 an aesthetically modified version of a travel power) 1 Respec 1 Character Slot 12 Decorative base items Now, these are also account wide, so if you have 5 characters, multiply all those numbers by 5 (except the character slot, of course). And all of the costume pieces are only available through this program. In fact, they put their top two most requested (at the time) additions into this program as rewards. Now, given that the character slot alone would be worth more than 500 CC here, given that the ability to make whatever character changes you want could easily add up to more than that, and given how that list above would just keep growing, tell me how 500 CC is on the same level. And I also have to laugh that you think a punch card is showing appreciation. It's exactly what you said later, a marketing tool to get you to spend money. Appreciation is the gyro place down the street from my house where they know I don't like tomatoes on mine, where the owner once gave me a small bag of scraps for my dog. I've never actually told him I have a dog, but he's seen me walking her around town. A place where the owner once apologized to me for having to wait about 10 minutes for my order at 6pm on a Friday, when they had a line of cars out the drive and down the street for the drive-through, where I've ordered a pint of custard and they've come out with a quart, where the owners ask my roommate how his band is doing. And I don't eat out much, so I only go in there maybe once every month or two. I'm far from their most regular customer. Yeah, there are plenty of businesses that can show you the difference between a gift and appreciation.
  13. For one thing many of the games that give those things as rewards, they are specific to that program, and not available for purchase. For another, these are ongoing programs, where you get the rewards on a regular schedule. Might you be able to buy one or two of these things with your 500CC? Sure. But in these programs you're getting multiple things every reward cycle. And a character slot alone will cost you more than that. Things like titles and pets you can buy a "chance" to get one in a crate. There are no extra powers to purchase or decorative items (since we don't have guild hq's, let's say for your starship). Plus there's actually some thought put into these rewards, and that's what a lot of people were complaining about. Did they do something nice? Sure. Did they have to do it? No. Just because they did it does that make it on par with similar acts? No. There are plenty of games out there that do it better.
  14. How about the many other MMOs that have loyalty or veteran rewards programs that give things like pets, titles, storage, character slots, powers, decorative items, respecs, in-game discounts, and more?
  15. Turn in squad of deserters - Dark side Let squad desert - Light side Yeah, I'm sure my career military Trooper would see things that way Even better was my Jedi Sage saying the line, "This better be worth my time or you'll suffer!" ...and getting lightside points.
  16. This really would have been the best solution. Put the red and blue speeders in the vendors to go along with the red and blue armor, and put another color as the drop.
  17. Also, I'm not sure if it's the Duffy link in the post above. but on her page as well is a chart that shows how to get the maximum rep possible each week. You can actually go over your rep limit. For example, it the limit is 12,000, and you're at 11,990, you can use a purple rep token, and all of that rep will count. (Numbers are made up, as I don't remember what the limits are).
  18. This times a million. Need/Greed is such an outdated loot system. With many games going towards individual drops, like CoH had, I really wish this one would, too. And this (and the CoH points from the other poster) pretty much tie into my biggest pet peeve. I enjoy the game, I do, that's why I'm still subscribed. But there are so many things where you could look at many other games and see examples of how to do them well (global friends, chat channels, GTN features, the dye system, overall customization, loot drops, etc...). And it seems that instead of looking at the best examples and trying to make something better (like they did with the class stories, the VO, and some other features), they just shot for "average." The game's got so much unrealized potential, I just hope it gets there.
  19. You could ask Duffy if you can use her screenshots... http://dulfy.net/2012/05/29/complete-high-res-catalog-of-all-swtor-speeders/
  20. Just wondering what gear rating (as dps) you need to run this.
  21. I think this is what bugs me, especially when all their promo stuff is "earn" the new mount. I wouldn't have any problem actually earning it, whether that's needing to get more helixes, running a quest line, whatver. I don't mind the drops like the tank that are in the ops, but you've basically got 2 chances, and then who knows when you can get it again. And like you said, this is just luck. As an aside, for those who have gotten one, is it bound to legacy?
