To the best of my knowledge there is bad coding in the Shadows. Turn them off to see if that helps.

If that did improve your performance, you're no doubt infuriated that your beast of a PC can't have shadows.
To which I can understand. However, the shadows are, as stated above, badly coded.
I'm not a college graduate game designer, but even I know bad coding causes terrible lag in games. (The original Minecraft alpha is a good example,I think... Coded in Java... Ran liked absolute crap when it first came out. On my machine, at least.)
Back to the main topic: Just take five minutes and turn off shadows, and see if that increases your Framerate.
