  1. backpedaling is for bads. if you back pedal using any skill youre bad.

i wouldnt say no to more mobility, but its not necessary. merc has a role in the team dynamic of PvP in this game, and if the merc knows what theyre doing they will succeed and assist the group in succeeding.

You've just lost any and all credibility.

If you are stupid enough to stand still (while playing a Merc BH) while my mara is up in your face, you're dead. Plain and simple.

Telling me 'not' to back pedal and gain range, on a toon who's ONLY advantage is ranged.... ?? Seriously?

  2. Ok - for all you CLUELESS posters, the OP is 'really' talking about 'mercs' NOT powertech's, when referring to BH.

He 'should' have clarified he was talking about MERC's only, rather than lump all BH together as one, because quite frankly... lol... that was just silly.

That being said: MERC's need some tweeking, and it is NOT in the DPS department.

From a DPS stand point, merc DPS is 'as intended'. They absolutely CRUSH fools who ignore them.

That being said, they DO lack some utility that (as pointed out in some other posts) most other classes have.

Now - before we discuss this further and compare our 'epeen', lets reflect on the BIOWARE video discussion between developers on "Who would win a fight? Jedi vrs Bounty Hunter"

Careful observation of this clip will show that "CLEARLY" it was a 50/50 split, but the FIGHT depended on the JEDI closing in on the BH and his ability to STAY in melee range.

Please note: ONLY arsenal spec'd mercs have TWO knock backs. Healers/Pyro - have 1. (which does not get 'spec' buffed, so it's weak.)

Keeping this: "Can the Jedi close and kill" in mind, the answer is always YES, he/she can... quite easily. In fact, it's easier for a jedi to close and kill than it is for a Merc to move.

It's my opinion - this lack of mobility on a class that has a bloody rocket attached to it's back, is the problem with Merc Bounty Hunters. They have NO or LITTLE mobility. Even with Pyro/Bodyguard spec, you are still required to channel most of your attacks/heals, which means you cannot move. If you cannot move, you WILL DIE. No question.

So - with this in mind I propose 2 simple changes.

Allow Merc BH the ability to use "Unload" and "Flame Thrower" on the move.

Flame thrower will cancel if you move ANY direction, but backwards, at 'normal' slowed pvp speed. This allows the merc to try and create distance, while still maintaining some DPS.

Unload - well?? Lets face it; it would look insanely cool if you could use it while running. Regardless, allowing the Merc to move, while using this 'normally' channeled power, would go a LONG way in improving their viability in PVP.

  3. OP - I feel your pain. Merc healers blow. I've tried using mine in PVP and got frustrated enough to switch to a pyro build.

My 2 cents; what I think would help Bodyguard / Medic builds be viable.

    Kolto missle:

Personally - I hate the 'ground targeted area' heal - kolto missle. It's clunky, slow and takes too much time to deploy to be really effective. I'd rather this power was 'player' targeted and just heals teammates around the targeted player.

Bodyguard needs the 2 KB buffs/powers that currently are in Arsenal spec. Bodyguard needs the KB's, not DPS.

Bodyguard should also have a timer reduction feat on their 'stun' ability, to compensate for the utter lack of DPS this build has.

HOWEVER - the class is 'not' broken beyond repair. That implies bioware cannot fix it, and they most certainly can.

I do not believe changes like these would make the class OP, they would just make them more viable, like Sorc/Sage healers.

  4. OP - Nice QQ thread bro.

So, basically you're saying that the Super Bowl champs get to play the next season with clubs, nets and 12 players on the field? Because they 'earned' better gear by winning the championship game??

If you need some shiny new carrot to work towards, perhaps you should consider trying another vegetable?

I hear cucumbers are really good this time of year.

    On topic and IMO.

If Bioware wants to keep expertise I'm fine with that, it prevents the Operation/FP farmers from dominating. You 'should' be wearing PVP gear, in PVP or you will be crushed. This is a good thing.

That being said, the ONLY difference in gear should be appearance, and the ability to MOD it with the stats you want. If you DONT want alacrity, you aren't required to slot it.

It's not rocket science, really. You can have gear progression and other PVP rewards without creating HUGE balance issues.

  5. Sniper are up there with the strongest PvPers pre 50. After 50 they are only good for..

Platform area denial in hutt ball.

Avg duration denial of capping/bomb planting with orbital. (unless you die which cancels the effect)

    And healer hunting.

Their burst is pretty high but.... Only every 30 secs with explosive probe up. (marks spec) otherwise its mediocre at best even with a shatter shot -> insta snipe (with maybe the 100% snipe crit ability -> hasted ambust from overkill -> Follow through

All of the above jobs can be done better by other classes who also bring more to the table. Not only that but snipers are easily the most immobile class in the game.

As always a good premade make up will always take skill over class, yet I would take a skilled player of any class anyday over a sniper.

50 BM Sniper, 50 BM Marauder, 50 BM Jugg, 50 Conqueror Sorc. For what its worth.

I played Marks up to lvl 36, then switched to lethality after the 1.2 update.

Have to say: I enjoy lethality much more. I'm more mobile and haven't lost a single point of DPS. In fact... I think I do more damage if I have a few seconds to set em up.

When I hit 40, I'll play around with Eng for a bit, to compare.

Yes; SINs/Shadows are my bane, but it isn't an absolute lose situation. They can be dealt with if your stuff is on cool down, and your rotation is spot on.

If my sniper would STOP squatting back down in between EVERY single attack, I'd be even more deadly. I lose 1/2 a second.. repeatedly... each time I attack... which.... is... annoying....

  6. I intend to take my sniper into lvl 50 pvp, once I hit 50.

Logged into a hutt ball match last night with a friend. The team loaded up. We had 4 snipers, 2 Ops, 1 sorc, 1 mara.

He said; "This is gonna be ugly"

I replied: "For them, yes.. just watch."

We went on to Win: 6 - 0

Nothing wrong with Sniper/Ops in PVP - pre 50, at least. It was almost comical how fast our sniper team melted the enemy players. We didn't even have to worry about 'ball carriers' because there was nobody around our carriers to attack. Anyone who got into range died too fast. We won the match with 7 mins to spare.

Will likely be a lot different in lvl 50 PVP, but... then again.... lvl 50 PVP is a LOT different than 10-49 pvp.

  7. Sounds plausible... Truly, a compelling argument. I deleted my sniper after reading this, for serious.

All I noticed was some seriously crazy lag, but after reading this post I'm convinced I was somehow nerfed, so I too deleted my Sniper.....

  8. I've often pondered this question.

Obviously - it can't be as strong as an Operatives (detection range). Would need a longer cool down (say 3 mins), and could not be used while "in" combat - EVER.

However, as a tool, would be quite useful for getting into position to defend or attack an objective.

Would such an ability really benefit/help us? Would it make us Overpowered? Does it go against the 'team dependent' play style of the class?

    Discuss...

  9. OP - I'm sorry, but as stated by Bioware, the 1 shot 1 kill, is NOT the design idea behind the sniper. (in PVP... in PVE you can 1 shot plenty of mobs)

The sooner you accept this, the sooner you will improve your performance in PVP.

You also selected 'perhaps' the MOST difficult class to play (in pvp) in the game.

Yes, you look like a big shiny KILL ME icon to other players, but if played correctly you will make them regret NOT noticing you.

Even if they DO notice you, you can make them regret getting into your LOS and range, but that is going to require a better attack rotation on your part, proper build, and SMART game play. Sniper is ANYTHING but 'easy button'.

Yes, we have our faults. Cover is.... sometimes frustrating. Our damage is mitigated by darn near everything in the game.....etc...etc...

However, IF you play your ROLE correctly you will realize you are NOT a 1 man wrecking crew. You work BEST when supported, or in support OF OTHER players.

    That is BY design.

Learn it, live it, or roll a new class because it will NEVER be what you 'want' it to be.

  10. Thank *insert deity of choice* they (MMO's) aren't like they used to be.

Fortunately - people woke up and realized grinding for a new carrot was not fun. You can blame SWG and a dozen other MMO's who made the process feel like work, when people play games to have fun.

Also - gear based pvp, regardless of genre (mmo, fps..etc..etc) is STUPID. Only the most tirelessly stubborn with tolerate a week (or more) of constant 'defeat', and NOT absolutely lose any interest in the game.

To you it's 'work', to the majority, it's nothing short of abuse when people PAY/PLAY to have fun.

Face it... losing constantly to better geared players, going into a match KNOWING you are going to lose, over and over again.... is NOT fun (for the majority).

You think it is fun. Kuddo's to you, but for every 1 of you, there are 10 who disagree.

(guesstimate, not based on scientific fact)

You are certainly entitled to have fun the way you choose, doing what brings you enjoyment, but at the end of the day I think the majority like having fun differently than you do, hence the changes you see, and... (this is a fact) the number of people who play MMO's has grown substantially over the years, since UO's release...

I view your post akin to an old football player calling the 'new gen' sissies because they wear helmets.

    To each their own.

  11. Is evasion broken?? I've tried using this power a number of times and it doesn't appear to stop any damage, let alone ranged and melee for 3 seconds.
  12. Your right, I forgot they changed the conversion to 1 to 1. When it was 3 to 1 it did not make sense but at 1 to 1 it does.

    DISREGAURD my statement there.

Those 1000 merc comms cost you 3000 war zone comms to get. The most expensive 'banking system' I've ever seen.

I think in 1.2, 1000 warzones will buy you a piece of gear, correct?? That's two pieces of gear you didn't get to buy, exchanging them for Merc comms.

  13. Fortunately - 1.2 will resolve a lot of the "fresh" 50 issues.

Unfortunately - they (bioware) did not make it clear to players 'how' dysfunctional (gimped) they would be in lvl 50 PVP without said gear. Nor did they make acquiring this gear easy for casual players, and the whole 'merc, warzone, battlemaster, champion, centurion...etc..etc.' system was bizarre and needlessly complex.

Again; 1.2 should resolve alot of these issues. You can simply purchase your PVP gear once you hit 50, and work towards your War hero / battle master stuff, without being an absolute liability for your team.

Those who complain: Learn to play, earn it, it's too easy... bla bla bla.... are NOT considering how 'they' would feel if they joined a PUG with 3 fresh undergeared 50's.

A geared player, would KNOW they had no chance to win the match, and would likely quit.

Of course, not only leaving the team not only down players, but undergeared players, who are most likely facing a premade using voice comm.

    Nice guys... huh?

If they were smart, they'd realize the huge favor bioware just did them, allowing fresh 50's the ability to buy starter gear.

  14. oh and by "them", i mean merc commendations. you can trade them in for full credit to warzone commendations, which will be the sole commendation you need, post 1.2

    Not... entirely accurate.

You are trading those Mercs for warzone comms at a loss. Each merc comm cost 3 warzone comms to purchase, and you get 1 - 1 trade when 1.2 hits.

That should not be considered "full credit".

    Your best bet: OP

Is to buy one of the faster speeder bikes OR buy a champion bag, save Merc/War back up to 1000/1000 and hit 50 BEFORE 1.2. You can then buy 5 additional champ bags the moment you hit 50.

You can then spend the champ/cent tokens on gear, or save them for when 1.2 hits and exchange them for the new gear. (might be a loss.. but am not certain)

Just think of Merc comms as a lone shark banking system. You give them 3 dollars, they give you 1 back.

  15. My last OW-PVP encounter was far more epic. I turned and saw a level 10 imperial on corellia... being level 50 in mostly champion gear... I felt threatened... so I kicked my level 3 speeder into gear chased it down and force leaped... 1 shot!

afterwards I felt remorseful (well not so much), and to this day I still wonder what the H a level 10 imp was doing on corellia....

Given they're closing down Illium it may be my last OW-Encounter in SWTOR... I find that fitting.

    lol

you know I feel a string of low level gankings coming on...

You should have done the right thing, and stuck around and killed them again. Shame on you. Your darkside/lightside powers are hereby revoked.

  16. My story of OW pvp is a bit more embarrassing.

I was lvling my 6th character (sorc) in alderaan, doing my usual resource gathering.

In the 6 characters I've run through this zone, I've never seen a republic player.

I was approaching one of those giant wolf like creatures to kill it, when suddenly i was taking fire from behind.

For a moment, I was puzzled.. 'what the heck is attacking me??"

I turned around and saw a robot (first).. then a moment later noticed the trooper behind it.

Again.. I paused thinking.. " what kind of NPC is that??? I've never seen a human mob this far up the mountain before...."

    * pew.. pew...* I take more damage.

I shocked the robot, whirlwind the trooper. Still thinking to myself... "why is this mob attacking me, where did they come from???"

FINALLY... I looked at my target view and finally realized it was a Republic PLAYER attacking me.... well.. duhhh..

Of course.. rather than fight back... I just stood there thinking.... "Wow... a real honest to goodness Republic player??!!! What should I do.....??"

I died a few moments later... still pondering how I would react to the situation.

I'm just so used to NEVER seeing an opposing faction player.... I just didn't know what to do with myself.

I thought about hunting him down, but... meh... seemed like too much work, with little reward.

I've got 1 50, and 8 other characters in the mid 30's, and this is perhaps the 3rd time I've ever encountered a member of the opposition.

I should probably move to the RP PVP server, since I'm more inclined to chat, than fight.

  17. I can understand why people under lvl 20 can enter pvp and worst when most of your team is lvl 10-19. Bioware should lvl gap pvp between 10-19 / 20-29 / 30-39 / 40-49 in different wz.

I topped damage/objectives with my op/pt/shadow/sage - (alts) starting at lvl 11, without sprint. (which I will get on other alts at lvl 1, when 1.2 hits)

    Granted; when facing a lvl 48, I was severely outclassed in a 1 v 1 fight, but.. like a good player I rarely faced them 1 v 1.

I understand your frustration, but it is not the level difference that makes a bad player.

On your other point; I agree with others, this would negatively affect que times. However, I think it would be AWESOME to have lvl capped ZONES for open world pvp.

In City of heros/villians they had 4 different open zones for pvp, each capped at a specific lvl. If you were above the level of the zone you could still enter, but none of your powers gained beyond the level cap would work. You could not enter the zone if you were too low for the zone cap. ( A lvl 25 could not enter the lvl 45-50 zone. )

I like the Warzones we have but open world pvp is non-existent, and when it does happen it's a lvl 50 beating down on a lvl 25 in tattoo or something equally lame. Not much fun for the lvl 25.

  18. I really hope BW doesn't listen to most of the QQers in this thread. Please L2P.

This game has struck a great balance for stuns and cc. Just have to recognize it, and use it to your advantage. But what do I know... I only pvped in EQ, Anarchy Online, Shadowbane, DAOC, Warhammer, Darkfall, STO, WoW, AoC, SWG, Guild Wars, Earth and Beyond, Planetside, Asheron's Call 2, EQ2, Rift and probably other MMOs I have forgotten by now. So obviously I have no clue what I'm talking about and have nothing to compare SWTOR to, OBVIOUSLY.

Most stuns don't last more than 4 seconds. Learn to mind your resolve, watch what other players are doing if they used their stun already or not (it's like a game of cards, count the damned cards, pay attention to what's still in the deck and what's out), and for god's sake learn to use your CC breaker wisely.

Stop the QQ, you are given the same tools the other players are given, USE THEM. If you are sucking then guess what, you will still suck when everyone doesn't have that CC. It's just a game mechanic, learn it, use it effectively. Also s t f u.

    Thank you.

Maybe you should find a new game sir. I have a feeling things will not stay the same ole, same ole, you seemingly want them to be.

Bioware will do what makes them money, which is to make as many players happy as possible, by making the game as much fun as they can make it, for the majority of players.

Based on the forums, various complaints of friends, guild mates, and a few other sources, the amount of CC in PVP is not considered a 'fun' experience by most.

I personally don't mind it as much as others. I simply accept the fact that once I'm stunned, I'm likely going to die in a few seconds. The ONLY time my resolve bar is EVER full, is immediately after I've died. I literally almost never need to use my Trinket, because 99% of the time I die before my resolve bar fills.

If you are foolish enough to think (players complaining about CC) that isn't affecting Biowares bottomline (subscriptions), then you are kidding yourself.

  19. Resolve isn't broken.

If you trinket out before you have full resolve, you get stunned again. If you don't, you die a few second after the stun wears off because you cannot defend yourself against 4 attackers while you are stunned.

It is a VERY RARE event that I get FULL Resolve, can trinket out, and live.

If I'm focused by the enemy team enough to get 'full resolve' then I'm going to die, plain and simple.

It's not as if the 4 players targeting me are going to suddenly change their minds and decide to kill someone else instead.

Resolve works, it just doesn't matter.

  20. 1: when 1.2 hits, you can only buy Stims and Medpacks with them, at: 20/30.

2: when 1.2 hits, no dev notes indicating they intend to change the exchange rate.

3: #2 means = Mercs have an exchange rate of 6:1. You spend 3 War zone comms to buy 1 merc, and spend 3 merc to buy 1 war zone.

4: You will only use warzone comms once 1.2 hits.

Spend your 200 / 200 merc/war now and buy a bag. The rest.. ?? Well.. I guess you can keep them as a memento of how much bioware loves you.

  21. Dude, expertise HAS to stay and it NEEDED to be buffed as long as PvE armor is allowed in PvP.. ?

    There you have it sir.

The rest of your rant was a waste of your time.

Simply remove 'gear' from the equation, and wholla - pvp will be fun again.

    Congrats, you've resolved the issue.

  22. When the competetive elements of this game wants gear progression and character advancement it's because "we want to be carried by gear".

Whereas causals feel they should have a clear progression path all the way up to the best gear for little to no effort.

Why can't us hardcore players have something to work for that actually takes effort and teamplay to get? I want to feel i earned the gear, not getting it handed to me by merely participating in PvP.

Sure competition is it's own reward, which btw is why i'm still racking up lots of games daily even though there is no tangible reward in it for me except more titles. But just as the causals want gear progressions, so do we. Even if the gap is a small one like champ to bm gear, it's still nice to have stuff to look forward too.

Ranked players will spend most of their time in ranked warzones so it's not like we will spend all out time ganking you in non ranked.

Why can't you have gear that is 'vanity' based rather than stat based. You can still grind for it, but wont ruin your own pvp experience in the process.

  23. With what little info we have on new pvp gear, what is the incentive to continue to pvp pre 1.2?

With Centurion gear becoming obsolete due to the new entry level gear. The only incentive I can see is to aquire champion gear in an effort to make the road to BM a little bit easier.

    K.

Save up your 1000/1000 merc / warzone comms. Spend excess on medpack/stims.

Spend your comms on the new gear, if such a thing is indeed possible. From what I've read, you can save 2000 warzones once 1.2 hits, until then still capped at 1000.
