If you go into the lore, specifically the information on lightsaber forms, in the information on Trakata form it states that the lightsaber should be deactivated when focusing on force expressions such as force lightning. So yes, sorcs/sages should deactivate the lightsaber blade when they're casting.

Mako totally affected my D/L decisions, because I decided early on that ICly my character liked her, and after Braden got nuked that she decided to take up the role of Mako's "big sis". To a small extent I would actually agree with him, as a couple needs to have common ground in interests so that they can happily spend time together. If your primary hobby is gaming and he/she has no interest in it to the point of disdaining your choice in entertainment, all trying to continue the relationship will do is cause you both frustration until one or the other bends or breaks. Yeah, I'm kinda pissed off that they removed the option to reject/kill companions. The armor display for the pants is a bug, and if you're not running ionic gas cylinder use a generator, not a shield. You'll have **** for shield chance without being in tank "stance"

Flame sweep has its places in PVP, too, not just tanking. It's good for disrupting multiple people from claiming objectives, and he did make it clear that he PVPs.

Flame burst is a primary ability, get used to using it, and missile blast is mostly useless unless you need to unload some finishing damage on a runner that's out of range of your better hits.

Uhm.... Existing canon has more saber variations than you have knowledge of, apparently. The only issue I see with dual sabers being so prevalent is that, as far as I know, none of the offhand sabers are shotos, shorter sabers primarily used as an offhand weapon in dual-saber combat forms.

There are actually larger lightsabers. Dual-phase sabers had two length settings that were switchable in combat to confuse and surprise the opponent, with the longer blade usually making the saber as tall as its wielder, and there is a type of saber focusing crystal that creates a broader beam for easier blaster bolt deflection, though I don't remember the name of it.
