  1. They just did, they just stated a reason for it. But as I said certain people were arguing they'd been pumping out more content than Rift did in its first 12 months, when of course they hadn't. Telling the truth isn't "doomsaying", it's just telling the truth (whether it's unpalatble or not - anymore than people saying SWTOR was losing subs was "doomsaying" it was just the truth). The truth is alway the truth.
  2. Immunity timers do everything the Resolve bar does and more. I'm not saying there aren't some circumstance where the Resolve bar does its job, I'm saying there are many (far too many) where the Resolve bar does NOT do its job. Instances where the tried and tested immunity timer systems would work. Hence it is NOT fit for purpose - it was a nice idea, but it should be scrapped and replaced with a system of immunity timers that actually ARE fit for purpose (al la WAR). Or to put it another way, in what was is say WARs PvP CC system subpar to SWTORs? None that I can think of.
  3. You'll never see a race that isn't a re-coloured human, or a human body with an "alien" head, too much developement work.
  4. Some people did, the same people that argued till they were blue in the face that SWTOR produced more content over its first 12 months than Rift did. Personally I think 12 weeks is going to be a more likely average, if you discount new Cashshop gear.
  5. It doesn't do that either. Effectively it doesn't stop you being stunlocked to death, it doesn't really stop you from being permenantely CC'd in a real sense (by the time it's immunity kicks in you'll be dead in 99% of situations against even a vaguely organised PuG). It basically does nothing really. Compared to a system of immunity timers which are simply and do exactly what the are supposed to do. It's no wonder SO many people complain about SWTOR PvP and its CC, because it is terrible. The strange thing is they had many people that worked on WAR and even DAoC working on it, yet seem to take NO lessons from those games and in fact made the worse things worse. I suspect they thought their "clever" resolve idea would work, but the reality is simply that it is not fit for purpose and should be scrapped and replaced with a series of immunity timers that actually WORK.
  6. It's not though really, it is Freemium, as it is impossible to actually play the whole game for free. Unlike a genuinely free to play game like Planetside 2, which has a much cheaper Cashshop. SWTOR is just way, way overpriced for some reason.
  7. It is way over priced compared to any other F2P or Freemium MMO, and it's way overprice compared to any other subscription based MMO cashshop too.
  8. For a piece, yes, but the set still costs what it cost off the Cashshop. Personally I've never seen the chest going for less than 750,000 on my server, and if you're not a heavy armour class you're going to want at least the chest, legs and boots (and probably gloves).
  9. That's probably due to the price - however I do see a lot of people wearing it, especially Sentinals and Shadows. I'd actually have some companions in that set IF it was sold at a reasonable price.
  10. Bioware EA have claimed a lot of things, the whole art of PR is build around it. Looking at what they've delievered reveals a truer picture, as indeed it will in this context I think. I don't think the Cashshop is inherently terrible for the game, it is just in the 2 months since they implimented it they've take a path much worse than the WORSE fears of people pre-Freemium. And then when you look at other MMORPGs and MMOs they are just SO expensive and give subscribers SO little comparatively, I cannot see how they can exist so far outside the MMO average for very long, even if EA plowed back in 100% of the Cashshop money (which the most assuredly WILL NOT be doing).
  11. You can only get them off the AH so long as someone is putting them there, if they aren't, you cannot.
  12. Because they can charge $18.00 a time for it - simple as that unfortunately.
  13. It is unlikely they will ever be able to produce any customisation for ships (as things stand - without completely reworking L1 L50 class stories) except maybe external colour scheme and plasma bolt colour. The only way they are likely to be able to do it is with a proper grid system designed in a "housing box" al la EQ2 or SWG (or even the much lesser system in LOTRO/DAoC).
  14. This happens a LOT and it's very difficult to avoid because the CC break ability is on a LONG cooldown due to PvE issues (it is far, far too long for PvP). This simply isn't an issue in MMORPGs with a better designed PvP CC system. Resolve does something, this is true. However that is a VERY different thing to it being "fit for purpose", which it most definately is not. It doesn't do what it is supposed to do better than a series of immunity timers (as can be seen in say WAR), it is in fact considerably worse than a series of immunity timers.
  15. Makeb has been in developement since before 1.2 (probably in fact 12+ months now), so even that isn't a really a Cashshop development. Next Christmas is really when we're definitively going to see what the current Cashshop senario is doing to the game, unfortunately by then it will be far too late if it's going to go how I think it is going.
  16. Except he's not saying that at all. I would be amazed if some of your $18.00 doesn't go back into the game, but he's just saying that they are raising money (which they clearly are). Given that the alternative pre-Cashshop was SWTOR being maintance-moded al la Warhammer Online (in fact it largely was in maintance mode since 1.2). Bioware EA will not get to decide what it does with the Cashshop money, anymore than the Cafe of a Departement store gets to decide what it does with its profits. Yes if they are profitable the accountants further up in the company structure may recommend more investment, but that is not a given. Bioware EA is simply a department of EA (and largely simply a name these days EA sticks on things), it is not a self-regulating company. EA is the only one that decideds what and where things are spent. And a Dev is hardly going to say "yeah we're profiteering with the Cashshop, it may well tank the game long-term but at the moment we don't care" are they?
  17. I know what they haven't done. But I don't understand why they "cannot" do better, ironcially the person I was replying to there has since quit SWTOR (seemingly) dispite probably being the most outrageously pro-EA poster on this board.
  18. I know that is tongue in cheek, but it is pretty much what they are selling on at the moment, such things can never last.
  19. SWTOR has strong aspects, but a lot of weaknesses. With Makeb Story becomes another weakness, as they've given up on 8x Class Story and just have Planet Story pretending to be Class Story. SWTOR needs to strengthen its weaknesses, that's what drove more than 2,000,000 people away in its first 12 months. Unfortunately at the moment, as I said, it's strenghtening nothing and weakening its major strenght.
  20. There's two issues with this though. 1. That $18.00 goes to EA, it doesn't directly go back into the game. $0.00 of it may go back into the game. 2. How many $18.00 mounts will you buy? 1? 5? 10? 20? Everyone has a limit.
  21. Sorry but that's not true. Warhammer Online has about the best PvP for a MMORPG around mechanics-wise, and there are no real stuns in PvP, only Mezzes (i.e. stuns that break on any damage), it is no the only one with this system. Stuns are fine in PvE, but PvP isn't PvE. This encourages much more tactical play and is only marginally less powerful than a stun if you play tactically (although much less powerful than a stun if you play thoughlessly - as it should be). Add to that a system of immunity timers and scrap Resolve and SWTOR would actually have some of the best PvP around mechanics-wise, at least. And it's not like they don't already have abilities with one effect in PvE and another in PvP, they already have many like this, so it's nothing new or difficult.
  22. Indeed, it is a relatively cheap Adventure Pack, so I cannot see them giving much more than they already have said. I think they should be a bit more clear and detailed on what they have said (assuming what they have said IS Makeb lock, stock and barrel), if they do have more things to come then obviously then should have already been announced for pre-order.
