  1. You can pretty much get away with using whoever you want if you do it right. I used Jaesa, maybe not the best choice for Rage Jugg but she was fun and was easy to sway affection with conversation choices. I just had to make sure i managed threat level and there was no problem at all. Quinn was good, but i just found it all a bit slooooooowUsing Jaesa is just faster, even after healing i still found it faster than if i'd used Quinn and moved straight on without healing. That said, i think Quinn is probably better if you're L50 and often short a man in a group. Jaesa's survivability would be a hassle there. But hey, use whoever you want. Your play style will adjust if you like the character anyway, and let's be honest....pre-L50 isn't so hard that companion selection should be an issue too often.
  2. Juggs need a pretty specific rotation a lot of the time to get maximum results. But damage isn't underwhelming at all....i rarely see a Vengeance or Rage specced jugg doing any less than about 150k even in Novare Coast on a bad day. Jugg damage output is almost stupidly big. I used to hate it before i rolled one. If you can't beat em....
  3. Depends on what you mean by 'viable PvP spec', and what sorta play style you have etc. I'm guessing you want to tank, but do a bit of damage as well? Looking at that spec, you're missing a few really good abilities up the top of both trees. You should choose one of the two skill trees to go a bit further up than the other or you're missing out on some good stuff. You'll definitely feel it in PvP if you don't have stuff like Thrown Gauntlet, Rampage, Sweeping Fury, and Impale. A lot of the time you won't realise until you play in the class for a bit that some of your skill points are being wasted. I'm not sure this will interest you given that you've chosen Vengeance spec in the build you posted, but i feel obliged to post my spec seeing as that's what you asked for. It's not real tanky, but i can guard in warzones and allievate a bit of pressure on healers etc while still doing comical amounts of damage. Oh and also using Soresu Form constantly. Be careful when choosing skills for Juggernauts after 1.2, there's a few shockers in there now.
  4. Exactly what he said ^^^. Orange gear is the best for PvE, just use your planet commendations to fill them up with mods/enhancements/hilts. And yeah, depending on your play style etc, choose stuff with defense/absorb/shield rating for defense and power/crit/surge for attack. But make the most of the orange gear while you can, it's a lot harder to find mods to go in gear when you hit L50 As a rule i never use green gear unless it's better than the stuff i currently have, and remember to take a note of the armour and endurance rating of your gear too. and use a shield, not a focus
  5. I'm running rage spec, but i do tank a little bit sometimes, so maybe i can help.... You have 2 taunts, so make sure you're using both of those. Guardian Leap/Intercede lowers the target's threat, big moves like smash and ravage draw threat, and so does switching targets. With your 2 taunts (i think) on 15 second CDs and active for 6 seconds, you should be able to draw plenty of threat. It doesn't seem like you're doing much wrong, but again, i'm no tank so probably best that someone more qualified answers this properly. It probably hasn't, but i hope this helps!
  6. if i happen to have too much rage built up and everything except sunder/assault/retaliation are on CD, then vicious slash isn't so bad. But if i have anything else to use....anything at all..... I still reckon it needs some sort of other benefit. I can't help but notice that i take a lot more damage than i dish out when that's my only option
  7. Dear OP....all classes can be good at PvP or PvE. end of story If juggs are so bad, how come you nearly always see one of us in the top few at the end of a warzone? your class doesn't suck if you're beating other players with it As far as your last questions goes, how many classes can be DPS, tank or both at the same time, do over 200k damage in warzones almost constantly, win medals faster than Ian Thorpe and stay alive longer than almost anyone? not many. it sounds to me like you'd rather be rolling a different class. so roll one. leave the juggs to us
  8. To OP, Quinn destroys Pierce, end of story. To anyone who thinks otherwise, Jaesa/Kira (if JK) is brilliant. I've played through both JK and SW storylines with them, and never once ran into anything i couldn't beat on my own. Yes, you need to heal after most fights, but you kill things so fast that it doesn't matter. By the time you've killed everything (especially with rage or vengeance spec) and healed up, you're still ages ahead of anyone using Quinn. But each to their own, i'm a bit immature and/or impatient and like to see things die as fast as possible all the time. I've tried Quinn and Pierce, but Jaesa's brilliant. And she likes eeeeeevillll
  9. juggs do quite well in PvP. obviously you need to spend some time working out your rotations etc but there's no reason a jugg should do badly in PvP unless he/she is undergeared or just a bit hopeless. i don't know if you're L50 or not, but in most L50 WZs i get around 12 medals, 40-50k protection and 250k damage with Rage spec, and that usually gets me in the top 3 at least. not every time, of course. some jugg specs got nerfed a little with 1.2, but they're all still good for PvP provided you know a bit about the class
  10. I agree...Vicious Slash at L50 is about as useful as a kick in the nuts when you're already undressed in the boudoir. I use it when i have nothing else available, but i hate it. If it did something...some effect, or had a high crit chance, or some more damage, it wouldn't be so bad. But it's so far below the par of Obliterate and Force Scream, and it uses waaaay too much rage for such a crappy ability....it needs strengthening. The only things it currently has going for it is that it's better than Retaliation, and it has no cooldown. which is crap, because why would you use it twice in a row? you'd have to be absolutely mad
  11. i've noticed this too. with the points spent on reducing the KB from choke, it's not so bad but it still happens. moreso in PvP than PvE for me. i'm L50 though, so whether that has anything to do with it i have no idea
  12. Couple of things: 1) due to the points i have in rage and vengeance specs, i didn't have enough to go with Intimidation 2) I didn't actually notice tthe Shii-Cho Mastery points....i'll have to rectify that. Cheers for pointing that out, i'm surprised i didn't notice it myself, given what i've been saying about soresu form.... 3) I hate enraged defense too, but i never really get much out of speeding myself up. so i guess i don't really care which one of Interceptor/Through Passion i use. i'm going to try Interceptor again though, you were right about the Shii-Cho Mastery after all 4) you'll be surprised how many times i find myself caught out with smash to use but no shockwave building abilities to use first except enrage. works a treat because it's instant as well, no waiting for ticks. and i feel less guilty about using it when it does 2 things 5) didn't know about chilling scream unstealthing either...definitely going to try that one out! i still think soresu form is the way to go, but that may also be due to my laziness in PvP between tanking and DPS. i can't honestly notice a huge gain or loss either way, and i still easily get 250k+ damage in most warzones while getting protection points from guard. i am definitely liking being a somewhat semi-tank, though. flexibility is great any further thoughts/criticisms? i don't know too many people doing this with rage spec so it'll be interesting to get more views on it, and how it might be improved
  13. Depends on which spec you're playing as, dude, and what your play style is. But most likely power/crit/surge, that's pretty standard for melee classes.
  14. You don't lose a whole lot of expertise when you replace them, as long as you leave the mods alone it should be OK. The mods and armour are where most of the expertise points are to be had, a lot of people replace the enhancements for power/surge ones. Also, expertise doesn't mean anything in PvE, so unless you're only doing PvP you may suffer for it when doing flashpoints, dailies etc. Try to keep your Surge around the 270 mark, don't skimp on power or expertise and you'll be just fine
  15. I've levelled as Vengeance before and did it quite easily. I heard every man and his mutt saying Rage was crap for PvE and was only good at getting numbers in warzones etc. Not true. Rage i found to be just as easy, and actually easier in a lot of places, for levelling. I've also found that all 3 specs are kinda slow to begin with. It's only around L30 when you get some decent skills that they start coming into their own. Anyway, I used Quinn until i got Jaesa, rarely died, and when i did die it was usually my own fault for being lazy with my rotations. After 1.2, you make adjustments here and there to counter the nerfing and it's basically the same. Hella easy to do PvE with and an utter monster for PvP.
  16. I've noticed it too. I actually switched to Soresu because Shii-Cho wasn't cutting it rage-wise after 1.2. When we all had to do the respec, i put some points into Unyielding etc that produces a little bit of rage, and that's sort of fixed it. Not too much different to before 1.2, despite the Soresu. Damage is definitely down. Smash used to have a 30% damage bonus, it's now 20%, so that's got something to do with it. Also because Force Choke is back to 1 min cooldown and we lose all our alacrity bonuses. You can counter this a little bit by putting points into Empowering Rage, which gives you 4 instant full shockwave stacks whenever you use it. But yeah, my damage used to be close to 300k quite regularly, (i'm still in orange gear mostly, only been L50 for a week or so now) and now i'm only getting 150-250k most of the time. It can even be lower if my team gets flogged. Medals are still just as easy to get in warzones though. In short, we did get nerfed a bit. There's definitely ways around it though
  17. I still stack power and surge a lot when i can get my hands on the right gear. Expertise is great and all, but it's useless when you're doing dailies, heroics or flashpoints. So i just try to balance it all out as best i can
  18. This is the spec i'm running for Rage Jugg after 1.2 http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#101MMZcMoZGr0rkfRbfz.1 It's definitely harder to build rage now, especially since i'm running Soresu form. After 1.2 without the alacrity bonus, it just seems pointless using Shii-Cho when you get such a big defensive bonus using soresu. Also, due to not using Shii-Cho i've kinda forsaken the Vicious Slash rage refund ability, as well as the Shii-Cho rage refund. I've found that as long as you have plenty of Surge and can manage your rage properly, your survivability is much better than before and your damage output is pretty much the same. The 10% loss of smash damage is kind of offset by the extra source of Shockwave (enrage). Overall, I think rage spec has actually ended up about the same if not better, despite looking like it was being nerfed considerably. I'm certainly not having any trouble staying alive or doing damage.
  19. Do it! And make an app for crew skill management and GTN too!
  20. I got the sunder bonuses before levelling up the rage tree, and it did improve my basic damage a little in earlier levels due to sunder armour stacks, but now that Force Choke has been taken back to 60secs CD i think it'd be much wiser to go up the rage tree first and get the enrage/force crush shockwave bonuses first. It's the core of the whole spec, after all. If i had to level up again as Rage Jugg, i'd definitely do it that way after 1.2
  21. If that's the case, i'd go for a shadow/assassin tank. Gear (on most servers i've found) seems to be slightly easier to get your hands on, and stealth is such a nice toy. Plus what above poster said about Force starting at 100% does kinda make it a bit easier. But still try Jugg/Guardian because they're great too. You might like it more? Never know until you try it.
  22. Quick Answer: Rage is still better for PvP if play style means nothing to you. Medal City in Soresu form, and easier to do unbelievably high damage than Vengeance. Long Answer: It's really the same as before 1.2: whether you like burst damage or consistant damage better. They're both perfectly fine for either PvP or PvE. You have to play them both and see which one you like best, really. I played one character to L50 in Vigilance/Vengeance and another in Rage to L50 before i could really make a proper judgment. I found that the main difference is that with Vengeance there's more margin for error than Rage. Rage, you have to get your rotations right or you'll die quick and without doing much damage. Get it right, and you'll be on close to full health with an army of dead people around you. Vengeance, on the other hand...that tough fight you just can't win? You may scrape through with Vengeance if you do it right, but with Rage you'll either be thrashed or easily destroy.
  23. http://www.torhead.com/ Go to Tools-->Skill Calculator-->[select class/advanced class] Depends which spec you're going to use/currently using, but heaps of people have posted their skill trees on these forums. You shouldn't have any trouble finding someone's specs and the reason they put their points into certain skills You'll need to be specific about which spec you're looking for though (Immortal/Vengeance/Rage).
