SW:TOR: The MMO Genre's Greatest Identity Crisis
Kenjer replied to CelCawdro's topic in General Discussion
Its ironic - this is true, but i think PVP is actually this game's strongest aspect. Even with some balance concerns, I've been able to have success playing all 8 classes in PVP, and i constantly find that to be my go-to way to enjoy this game. Just imagine how good it would be if it got the attention that it deserves. -
my level 53 artifact qulity ear and implants are bringing my expertise down - anyone know why? Edit - bought some level 52 ones. I guess level 53 unmoddable artifact gear was counting as 66's on everything
-
Why 58 enh? Woudln't you want a 66 if you are lowering the item level by using a 58 for the mod? Or are you saying either mod OR enh should be 58/61?
-
Of course i could. But why, if its already done?
-
I get super confused with this all the time. Does anyone have a spreadsheet or website that maps this out for reference?
-
OK so given i PVP exclusively and don't have classic comms for the 61 armorings, what would you suggest? I can get the 66's from the MOD/ENH 28's... should i stick with 58's from makeb vendor on something?

is that gear pre-55?

Anyone know how to maximize bolster for pre-55 PT pvp gear? I am coming up on 53, and feel like I've been getting weaker and weaker since level 49. At 53 i get access to the final tier of mods/enh/armoring/etc before 55 so i figured i would buy myself the artifact versions of the BIS. Any suggestions for how to best maximize bolster at this level? Its worth it to me because i am 100% pvp levling to invest in some good gear for my final two levels. Thanks!

Is a fully darkness build not viable?

Just coming back to the game and I've pretty much made my mind up that I'm going to main my assassin as a tank. What is the current wisdom on PVP tank spec and gearing? I know in the past when I'd played it (a long time ago) it was basically a full darkness spec with dps gear... but I'm sure thats probably changed. Spec / stat priority / etc would be appreciated. Looked for something on the forums but can't seem to find anything up to date!

I am coming back to SWTOR after a bit of a haitus. For background, i almost exclusively PVPed before i left, as well as finishing all 8 class stories. However, i didn't get at all into the PVE content. I do have a background in PVEing - I was part of a heroic progression 10 main raiding group in WOW, as well as leading raid groups in everquest and everquest 2. My first thought was to play a tank class because they would be valuable for a group, and i have a 55 guardian, 55 assassin and 50-something powertech that could all be "mained". However, given that i am guildless and all of my friends have left the game, it occurs to me that in almost any situation i join, there probably won't be a need for a tank. So, my question is, what would be the role that groups would desire from an experienced MMOer that is fresh to the SWTOR PVE world? For what its worth, I have filled all 3 roles in raid settings, and have no real preference.... almost to a fault, because i can't seem to latch myself onto a class for endgame. Bad case of altitus

Thank you for the feedback so far. I was under the impression from reading that assassin tanks are having trouble with survivability. Has this been fixed? Do all 3 have a good hybrid option? I know there is a PT AP tanking hybrid, but not sure about the other two.
-
I have played a significant amount of SWTOR, mostly PVP, but have also completed all of the class stories. I want to start doing endgame pve and have traditionally gravitated to tanking type roles. I have 55 guardian, assassin and an almost 55 powertech, so all three are available for me. What i am looking for is what is currently the most effective tanking class (I want to be desirable to groups and guilds). Ideally, it would also have a good pvp spec available so i can start focusing on one class instead of having tons of alts. I have no problems playing imp or pub, so that isn't a factor in my decision. Thanks in advance!

Any suggestions for the best spec to use from 50-55? I'm just coming back to my PT for the first time since like... 1.3.

I know the feeling lol

This is great thanks! Is the "Delayed" ability you are referring to sticky grenade?

Hi, I've had a Commando alt who is now level 30 and I've really just messed around and not been too serious (because the leveling game is so easy). Now that I am 30, i would like to get into pvp a bit with him. Was hoping that someone would have some spec suggestions for level 30 and a basic pvp priority / rotation that I can build upon. I don't really want to go into WZ and screw the team without having a bit of preparation! Thanks in advance

I wasn't super impressed by that site... i guess im not new enough to pvp to find it that useful. I was specifically looking for optimized gearing strategies. I looked a bit at the DR curve for surge and crit and decided on: mods = all high power low end enh/enh equiv = 8 power/surge and 2 power/alacrity aug - cunning The only problem i am finding is that in 4v4 i am almost always the target, and despite using all of my cooldowns seem to get blown up extremely quickly. Even with hunker down up, I am just getting torn apart by the abundent double-maurader teams. I don't really want to sacrifice dps stats, but i may end up moving the mods to high end low power.

Thanks for the update Amber - Do you have any ETA on when your "very next patch" will drop?
-
soon there is going to be no point playing my gunslinger. Which is sad, because i got 55 on this toon so recently. I am at such a competitive disadvantage, i might just have to shelf it for a while
-
I'm new to 55 on my slinger (actually not quite there yet, but planning out my gearing strategy). What is the optimum combinations of mods, enh and ear/implant pieces to maximize my PVP experience? Any help would be very appreciated!
-
I've noticed this on my slinger - Press the button, i do a roll on the spot and never get to some physical cover. It just rolls and you are back in a non-cover positon. Press it again, same thing. Shuffle around a bit ----- ahhhhh finally it worked. in PVP this has made me dead more than a few times. Pretty game-breaking for a slinger / sniper, especially in Arena. I can use portable cover fine, but it sucks to lose the additional benefit of physical cover until this is fixed.

looks like all of the professional stuff is back EXCEPT the Blaster and Off Hand Blaster. Still showing Sniper rifle / knife. I hope this is high priority, because right now i cannot buy my PVP weapons or it will screw me for rated tier weapons.

The best advice would be to spend 15 bucks and try it for a month. Give it a good shot, and go from there. There are a lot of people who complain about the game, but the fact is that there are still tons and tons of people playing. PVP is a mixed bag. it has its balance issues, but honestly i find it to be overall a good experience and a good player can do well with every class
