  1. Qaoz and oJebuso covered it all. I find I'm quite a bit more comfortable with the combat style of the Sniper/Gunslinger than I am with the Operative/Scoundrel. However, as far as pure dps goes, as was also said, Operatives and Scoundrels are getting a buff in the next patch. So it really depends on whether you really like being an Operative or if you're really itching to try a Sniper out. My Agent is a Sniper and I love her. But Operative does have its strengths.
  2. This. My favorite class is the Imperial Agent, and it was all too easy to guide my answers so my score gave me a Chiss Sniper, which is exactly what my Agent is.
  3. Hostility, please note that bumping a post after only six hours is considered rude. You're likely to face some-- well, hostility (pun intentional) from other players if done often. Now, there are several approaches to gear. Making stuff that's useful to your character, and taking advantage of a companion's bonuses to a particular crafting skill. Note that a companion's bonus doesn't mean you automatically get that skill, it just means they're better at it if you choose to have it. Now, as has already been stated, Synthweaving makes gear for your character, while Biochem's ability to RE and learn how to make reusable stims and adrenals and medpacs, including ones that can heal your companion and place a HoT after the initial heal never gets superseded by drops from endgame content. There's also the factor that Kira Carsen gets a +5 critical (free augment slot or a free second augment) chance when making Synthweaving items, while Doc has a +5 critical (usually a free second item, useful when RE'ing for a research proc) Biochem chance. Since you're required to cybertech is also worth looking into, in order to make appropriate gear. Cybertech can actually also be useful for your character by that point in time since you'll likely have mostly (if not all) orange custom moddable gear for your character anyway. And as a cybertech, if you get extra high-power armorings and mods you already have, you can extract them from another drop and RE them for a chance to learn them. and make them for others. Finally, artifice has SOME value for a Guardian, because Lord Scourge has an efficiency bonus (he'll complete crafting assignments in making crystals and hilts, enhancements and focii/shields, faster, but also, Kira has a +1 Treasure Hunting Critical, meaning an extra chance of getting the rare gemstones you need to make purple versions of the hilts/crystals/etc. So you can approach it in two ways. What's useful to you (Synthweaving, Biochem and Artifice would probably be top here, followed by Cybertech), or what takes the most advantage of your companions' bonuses. Finally, always remember that higher companion affection means faster completion and increased crit chance, while low affection means longer completion and increased mission failure chance. Best of luck.
  4. I realize it's be en over a month since this thread had posts in it, but it's been that long since I checked back on it. Do you remember where in the forums, Bioware stated this? I'd very much like to read the statement, and particularly their reasons for it. I'm not going to argue with them over it, but I'd like to know. As for why I'm not making this a private message, well, I'm sure there are other people with the same idea I just had.
  5. Does anyone use Patron Armoring in PVP? I ask this because, well, I don't PVP I know that there are a lot of enhancement recipes taught by Artifice trainers that give the EXACT same stat bonuses. A lot of people think this is either a glitch or because of last-second stat tweaks before the live release of the game. It's also possible, because mainstat armorings for might, willpower and aim all have endurance-heavy versions, that there WAS going to be a use for endurance heavy cunning armorings, that either just never came to fruition or was taken out before launch. I remember that So the idea that Patron Armoring was going to have a use that never got implemented or was cut at the last moment, seems pretty plausible. All this does, of course, assume that Patron Armoring has no value even in PVP. I'm strictly a PVE'er, so I don't know what the main public opinion is on this.
  6. Haha, wow, I guess I should have just asked if anyone had that still Yeah I think I can take care of the rest. Thanks
  7. Youtube is available in a pinch but I strongly dislike the notion that it should be the "ONLY available do-all and end-all" of such multimedia files. A possible way to make Smoochi's idea work is to store class selection dialogue choices on your own computer's hard drive, and the game can interface with that file to replay the cutscenes for you. One thing about Youtube is that not all people have subtitles enabled, and even if they do, the video file might be too small a format for it to be easily legible, and the sound recording might not be overly sharp. That's why, whenever someone asks me if I know a particular FP/Op fight that I'm doing for the first time, I'll tell them that I watched the strat, but "studying" isn't going to help me as much as doing, and my first time is never going to be as good as after I've had a few kills under my belt.
  8. I understand the desire for this, but I'm also strongly opposed to it. There's always someone who refuses to accept one class or build, or another, as acceptable in a raid because it "doesn't do enough to help the TEAM." But WHO, exactly, decides that? One raid leader might, but another might disagree... which one would you rather raid with if the combat style of that class or build, appeals to you? Secondly... suppose you chose to play a powertech, but you also would like to see the trooper class story. Make the trooper a commando, and it's the same fighting style as the mercenary, just different graphic effects and different type of weapon. If that's not good enough, well I'm sorry but I don't sympathize if you're gonna say it's Bioware's fault for not providing the ability to change AC's. Some people might say it is, but I don't agree. And if that means you don't wanna listen to me... well, I hate to say it, but you already have, if you've read this far! haha
  9. As a tank powertech, I used Mako a lot. But I did switch out, when possible, for Torian and Gault. Gault really does have some great lines of dialogue in certain instances, and Torian does, too. Also, some of their affection gains based on what YOU say in dialogues, can lead to some really fun moments. I imagine that, as long as it takes to get them, if you're aiming for mercenary healer, Blizz and Skadge would be good companions, also depending on whether you're leaning Light or Dark Side. I'm not sure most people would enjoy Skadge's personality, and I doubt more than a few would bring him along for storyline participation. As far as combat, I found that bringing Torian made some fights go faster, although it did mean having to use defensive cooldowns wisely, as well as popping a medpac and sometimes even using Heroic Moment. I perceive Torian as somewhat better than Gault at AOE damage. As a fellow Mandalorian, his fighting style is fairly similar to the player BH, as well. Mako keeps you alive, although when there's a number of spread-out ranged adds who won't move around, but only stay and shoot, keeping excess aggro off of Mako can be tricky, you have to be able to quickly switch targets and use taunts judiciously, or else three or even four mobs are gonna pepper her with blaster fire while you're taking down the first two. A well geared Gault can take them down a lot quicker, you just need to nurse a few lumps after the fight's done.
  10. I'd like to see that feature, too, simply out of my love of a good story. Being able to review key cutscenes and dialogue for conversations with major NPC's in our class story/stories would be excellent. Although I DO see a potentially major limitation in that the game would need to remember each dialogue choice we made. While the major plot points of each class story remains unaffected by previous dialogue options, SOME small details, including key characters, ARE so affected. For the game to remember each dialogue choice we all made could be a resource strain. What class stories did you finish? I might be able to give you a brief recap in private message for one or two of them.
  11. Any chance of getting a wallpaper image of the "Join the Battle" Live Action video, where the 'armies' are coming together, the lead actor and actress at the forefront, their lightsabers just about to clash? The Live Action video was very well done and that image would make a great wallpaper. I entered 'join the battle live action video wallpaper' into the search feature for this forum and got back 'no results found,' so please excuse me if this has been posted a dozen times before. I looked for such a thread and got back "No results found."
  12. Thanks Bleeters. That name, Nico Okarr, is familiar, although I can't quite place where I heard it before. I've been out of the SWTOR loop for several months, two major patches
  13. I can also confirm that the Insquisitor speaks during space missions (Mine says such lines as "Take That!" and "Hunker Down." I can also confirm that Tharan Cedrax speaks (including the line 'Enemy Bombers!' in Pakuuni Defense / Kalee Fortification). For some reason, I like Kira's line during Pakuuni Defense / Kalee Fortification, "Bombers on attack vector!" and Corso's line during Javaal Fleet Action / Kovor Ice Field, "That's the main ship! Hit it!" All ships have identical combat capabilities if equipped with identical upgrades, so it's a matter of aesthetic design. My favorite ship is the Imperial Agent's X-70B Phantom, by far. The Trooper's BT-7 Thunderclap is also nice, if a bit funny looking (haha), and the Bounty Hunter's DS-5 Mantis is kind of interesting... I call it a "Space Bus" because it looks a little like one, except for the three weapons foils. After that I like the Sith Fury due to its sleek design. The Smuggler's XS Freighter is okay, and I like the wet bar it has. I'm not overly fond of the Jedi Defender. It doesn't show crew sleeping quarters and its design makes it feel a little cramped. Finally, how does T7 get up and down the STAIRS between the lower and main decks?
  14. In the cinematic 'Return' that we were all treated to on first starting the game, the main figures are Darth Malgus (Sith Warrior), Satele Shan (Jedi Consular, I presume), Jace Malcolm (Trooper, then leader of Havoc Squad), along with both Malgus' and Satele's masters, Lord Vindican (Sith Inquisitor, I presume) and Battle Master Kao-Cen Darach (Jedi Knight) respectively, according to a lore article on Darth Hater. Does anyone know the name of the Smuggler character in the cinematic? The one with such lines as, "Ahem. Well, guess who's got the fastest ship in the sector?" Excuse the enlarged font. My eyes are getting very picky about teeny-tiny font.size.
  15. I was just about to post here about this, when I saw you beat me to it. Like VaramyrDX said, there is a glitch in the achievement system that expects you to finish all of the FOUR different finales for Chapter 1 of the Imperial Agent class story. Unlike the issue I encountered with Chapter 3 of the Bounty Hunter class story, which will only have affected SOME players, this particular achievement glitch probably affects ALL players because I doubt anyone has played four IA characters to the end of Chapter 1. I likewise hope this will be fixed at a later date; 20 cartel coins might not seem like much of a reward, but if I'm entitled to them, then I'm entitled to them, right? I certainly think so, anyway.
  16. I'm sure I'm not the only BH affected by this, and I doubt any other BH players who were likewise affected, are going to be happy. The worst part of it is, the source of the problem is rooted in class story, which means people going "Hey no spoilers." But sitting and suffering in silence is NOT going to get this solved for any BH player who was affected by this, like I was. We have to, at the very least, raise our hands, and say, "This affected me as well, could we get it put on the to-do list to get fixed?" So spoilers or no spoilers, here it is. Fortunately, the message composition controls contain spoiler TAGS, which I presume will hide the text until clicked-to-see? I'll use them, then, but this will be said, one way or another. So there you have it, an achievement system glitch that will deny some BH players credit for completing Chapter 3 of the class story. You get the heroic moment unlock, but no achievement. Anyone else to whom this happened, should likewise let Bioware know. Don't curse, don't threaten, just let them know, this happened, and we'd like it fixed. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but 'some time soon' .
  17. Much to learn, there still is. If you could post one or two examples I'd definitely appreciate that. If doing such would offend the no-spoiler folks, just click on my username and send a private message, haha. I don't actively ENCOURAGE spoilers but I don't object to them, either.
  18. As large as this thread has become, I'd like to address you directly, Noxsabe , as the OP. Would I personally like more slots? Yes. My current setup is having one of each base class, the two mirrored classes being of opposite AC's, as such: Sentinel <-> Juggernaut Sage <-> Assassin Commando <-> Powertech Scoundrel <-> Sniper But if I was given more slots I'd definitely use them. I wouldn't mind trying the Trooper storyline with a Vanguard or the Consular storyline with a Shadow, even if not for a long time. I also have trepidations about the Family Tree feature in the expanded Legacy system-- unless it is entirely cosmetic and optional, I worry it might hurt folks like me who have already used up all their available slots-- and for me, since all my toons are a different race to boot, I can't see any two of them being brother and sister, for example! I do chafe a little at your insistence that replies only conform to what you'd like to hear. Conversation threads like that tend to end up boring. If you're not prepared to defend your viewpoint against critics who couldn't disagree more with you, then they're not going to want to listen to a word you have to say. Note that I said that I personally would use the extra slots if given them, and I'd certainly cast my vote to get them if a vote were taken. But do I think we NEED them so desperately that I'd ragequit the game in ten seconds flat, if Bioware announced tomorrow that eight slots per server was the absolute limit, no ifs, ands or buts? Hell NO. If Bioware DID say that, I wouldn't be HAPPY but I could definitely LIVE with it. More than eight is definitely what I'd like, but it's by no means what I NEED-- and for you to say why you NEED them so badly, I'd want to hear your reasons, AND for you to be ready for me to try to offer counterpoints. All that being said-- I may not need them, and I wouldn't miss them if we didn't get them, but if we're voting on whether or not they'd implemented, I'd sure say by all means, give us some more. I'd put them to good use, sooner or later, haha
  19. Is this a rant? Maybe a little. Okay, maybe even a lot. Take it however you will. I'll feel better when it's posted, haha. How many of you have experienced the same phenomena? Maybe a lot, maybe a little. Maybe I'm the only one. If the latter is the case, maybe reading this will make YOU feel a little better after a rough day at work. On my first server I made a bad mistake, I was leveling cybertech like crazy and didn't work Underworld Trading anywhere near enough. I was limited to acquiring moderate level rewards of mullinine when I was starting to need titanium. On my current server I fixed that mistake. I'm running a lot of UT missions, and I'm doing it enough to farm for companion gifts. On my first server I also made the mistake of not using companion gifts to help raise character affection level. I've been correcting that on my current server, as well. And thus we come to the crux of my beef. It seems nine out of every ten companion gifts I get back are courting gifts. Even though I've been doing a better job of building character affection levels, I'm not at the point of romancing them yet. And in many cases, the one romanceable character available to my class and gender isn't the ideal companion to take on missions. And in some cases I haven't even reached that companion yet. My Powertech is midway through Alderaan. Her romance option is Torian Caldera, who isn't obtained until Taris (which for Imperials, is the first planet of Chapter 2). For my Smuggler, it's Corso-- I HATE Corso, I hate his personality, I hate his commentary, and I personally don't care much for him, either. I have no intention of romancing him, and if he responds badly to that, then he can go (the rest of this paragraph has been censored for the sake of the little kiddies playing this game past their bedtime, without mommy's permission, hahaha.) For my Consular, it's Felix Iresso-- he isn't available til HOTH. As it happens, that's the planet my Consular is up to now, but it's still a LONG wait just to get him. And it must be worse for male Consulars having to wait even longer for Nadia Grell, the last Consular companion unlocked? And this assumes I want my Consular to have a companion romance at ALL. Maybe my Consular follows the belief that Jedi knowing love will tempt the dark side too much? (My Consular is nearly LS rank 4.) Since companion gifts above level 2 cannot be purchased from the companion gifts vendor, I need to use the mission crew skills to acquire them-- whether Treasure Hunting, Underworld Trading, Investigation. And the number of courting gifts I get is becoming absurd. I'd think Bioware is trying to tell me something if I were a little more paranoid. Of the 10% that aren't courting gifts, I seem to have a knack for getting gift types that are valuable to my opposite faction alts-- my Republic toons get back a lot of Imperial memorabilia, while my Imperial toons get back a lot of Republic Memorabilia. Fortunately, Elara accepts the former (even if it's only "one star out of three") and Vette will at least accept the latter, again even if only "one star out of three." And yes, I know some companions are pretty picky in their tastes, but I'd like to think that at least SOMETIMES I can satisfy those tastes instead of sticking yet another courting gift or trophy gift into my cargo hold(s)? Finally, the fact that same-gender romance options is on the horizon, isn't entirely relevant here. It might make things much easier for my BH (Everybody Loves Mako, Monday nights on CBS ), but not necessarily for my IA, who can be ruthless from time to time but wouldn't want to turn her back to a total nutcase like Kaliyo, nor for my Jedi Knight, who like my Consular, just doesn't see romance in her future-- her loyalty is to the Jedi Order. Add to which the primary point, that while some of my toons are close, none of them are at a sufficient level to actually begin romancing their available companion yet (like my Trooper-- she'll probably marry Aric some time down the line but I've only just gotten to the first companion conversation with him that includes flirting options). Bottom line for all the TLDR readers... 90% courting gifts and only .01% weapon and cultural artifact and luxury gifts = uncool in my book. Thanks, now I feel better, at least for a little while
  20. Welcome to SWTOR, and don't be too intimidated by its scope. The game DOES span an entire galaxy, after all, haha! Most of the questions here have all been answered very well, if there was one thing I'd add as an afterthought, it's this. There's a common misconception about getting your ship being dependent on level because your capital world (Coruscant if you're Republic, Dromund Kaas if you're Imperial) is a planet optimized for characters level 10 through 16, and the majority of characters are level 15 or 16 by the time they finish their class mission. This is not the cut-and-dried rule, however: If you like to do as many of the planet's generic missions (available to all characters on that world), you could easily reach level 17 before finishing your class mission. One of my toons even hit 18 by that point. What is your "Class Mission?" Simply put, it's a storyline mission exclusive to your base class-- whether you're a Vanguard or a Commando, for example, both of them play out the Trooper class storyline. This storyline runs from your character's creation all the way to finishing Corellia and hitting level 50. If you play a Trooper, there will be a continuous series of story quests only available to Troopers. You can bring friends of other classes into the story area, only if they are grouped with you and if you personally enter the story area FIRST. On your capital world, your class mission will have a specific short-term step; a single rung on the ladder. When you finish that rung, you get your ship. Most people are level 15 or 16 by this point, but that's not set in stone. I think it goes without saying that you'll soon be having enough fun focusing on what you're doing at the moment, to want to rush through things in order to climb into the cockpit of that Fury-classs Interceptor or BT-7 Thunderclap, haha. Enjoy the game!
  21. Granted my Juggernaut is still only level 25, and level 50 gameplay is different. But I sure won't be running to change her spec to DPS. I don't care how "tiny" a feat you think it is to successfully tank for a healing companion while he keeps you patched up and lets you chop down that big scary elite in front of you. To me it's another notch on the hilt of my lightsaber, and a reason to buy my Malavai Quinn another drink. Tanking is still the same basic rule of thumb. When the bad guys spew barf and crap on the ground, treat it like barf and crap. If you won't step in it on a RL sidewalk, don't step in it in SWTOR. And if you see this big ugly thing that looks like the bad guys-- beat the CENSORED out of it. Those are the base rules of tanking and will not change even if a thousand drunken devs sic a thousand nerf bats on this tank or that tank, or even a Sherman tank.
  22. Any changes that put a STOP to any one profession, whether biochem, slicing or basketweaving, the one undisputed "king" such that people get so violently insulted at "the sheer magnitude of your stupidity" if you don't practice that profession, that they work themselves up enough to have a stroke mid-rant... any such changes are welcome in my book.
  23. I was going to post this message on a separate thread, but I read this thread and decided that posting my thoughts as a reply here would suffice. I only hope that someone who can pass these thoughts along to the development department, sees this message. And yes, I know everyone feels that way about everything they post-- but that's the point, if everyone does it, why shouldn't I? I have a bit of a beef about the planetary commendations for the four ORIGIN worlds-- Tython and Ord Mantell for Republic; Korriban and Hutta for Empire. The Specialty goods vendors for these worlds each sell a chest piece for the two relevant classes for each world; Tython and Korriban sell a medium armor chest piece with strength, and a light armor one with willpower, while Ord Mantell and Hutta sell a heavy with aim, and a medium with cunning. Each of these chest pieces cost eight commendations from the appropriate world. I've taken new toons to level 10 and the appropriate faction fleet on a number of servers almost as if testing this, and it seems to hold up nine times out of ten. By the time I finish the planet and go to the fleet, even having done the heroic missions for those worlds... by the time I leave the origin world, how many commendations from that world do I Have? You guessed it... EXACTLY seven. ONE short of the eight needed to buy one of those blue grade chest pieces. Am I the only one who's asking, what's wrong with this picture? Getting to that seven seems so easy-- and then you can farm and farm and farm on the origin world and that last commendations, the eighth, absolutely REFUSES to drop. I GET it already, the chest piece is only good for a couple more levels. I GET it, I'll replace it so fast I'll hardly miss it. I KNOW this, I UNDERSTAND this, and hell, I even agree with it. But WHY do we always have to leave our origin worlds with EXACTLY --seven-- commendations, only one commendation shy of that token item we'll replace so quickly? What's the point of it? And since Bioware has decided to permanently scrap any means of trading commendations or even vendoring them for a small handful of credits... why not just remove the Hutta, Korriban, Ord Mantell and Tython commendations from the game altogether? Why not remove them from our currency? Let commendations start to be acquired at the capital worlds-- Dromund Kaas and Coruscant-- where we can buy items with real value. If I could ask one favor of BioWare: get rid of origin world commendations and let them start accruing only once we reach our capital worlds and beyond. The "Specialty Items" for origin worlds and the means of getting them has no point and I doubt many people would miss them if they were removed. At Coruscant and Dromund Kaas they take on real meaning.
