  1. My temps maxes out at 64-66 celcius during those tests, i have already tested it before. (i tried it 4 weeks ago when i played swtor beta and noticed the heat issue with the game) Again, i have good cooling, but SWtor is the only game that makes my fans kick in much more, and its annoying when much better optimized games like Rift, Skyrim, BF 3, Crysis, Witcher 2 etc runs without no issues AT ALL. And those have much better graphics as well. I think adding an option to cap FPS at 60 without vsync would help the problem some, buying them time to program their game properly after.
  2. First off, i dont play on an alienware, some other guy did with heat reducing mods etc in it. But why does SWtor heat up much much more then Rift with maxed settings then?
  3. It is very strange how SWtor heats up much more then skyrim, BF3, crysis and the like.
  4. I'm NOT playing on a laptop Check the main post. Its a PC rig with 2600 I7 intel, 560ti, 8gig ram. It has good airflow, 5 fans, and runs maxed skyrim, crysis, BF 3 etc with temps only at 50 to high 50 celcius, which is very good. But SWtor makes the fans kick in a lot more then other games, and during quest convos with vsync turned off the temp rises A LOT. Tons of other people have the EXACT same issue, with different setups. Take a look around the web, the issue is written everywhere. The game needs an FPS cap option, and needs to be optimized better.
  5. Lol thats not even a laptop, thats a modded 17" alienware.... No i dont get issues running those programs, SWtor is the only program/game that really makes my pc hit up my fans during quest convos with vsync off. All my other games run at 50-high 50 celcius tops. and you say you have modded an alienware 17 inch gaming laptop that already has great cooling compared to 99% of other laptops. And that by modding you lost 10 celcius from stock. That puts your laptop running SWtor at 82+ celcius on a stock Alienware 17" gaming pc with tons of cooling. That is a lot for an alienware. Now imagine how hot SWtor runs on a nonmodded NORMAL dell/hp/acer/asus laptop? Again, play SWtor maxed with Vsync off, and leave the comp for 10 mins during a quest conversation, and look at the temps.
  6. TONS of people on notebookreview.com are having issues with SWtor heating up their laptops more then other games like skyrim. BF 3 etc. Their laptops go to 100 celsius WITH laptop cooler underneath, and SWtor forces the laptops to do major cpu/gpu throttling to cool down the system, which gimps it down and makes it stutter. Its caused by poor programming
  7. I'm afraid they are not. Because vsync adds a slight lag to mouse/keyboard input if you play fastpaced pvp with quick reactions. 5 of my friends tested this on their rigs with different setups too, and during quest convos, the temp goes up a lot on their comp as well. Problem is that you are playing on a laptop that has throttling, which constantly watches both the cpu/gpu heat and downscales to cool it down when it gets too hot. If you go to notebookreview.com, you will see that A LOT of people have laptop heat problems and throttling problems with 1 game. Guess which game?
  8. Try to play at max settings, turn off Vsync, and start a quest conversation. Let the conversation last for 5-10 mins. See the heat I'm talking about now?
  9. No, they are caused by poor optimization. Again. My cooling is good, I run Crysis, Skyrim etc completely maxed out WITH high texture graphic mods, and i can play it for 2 hours and the temperature is still only around 50-60 celsius tops. But SWtor is the ONLY game that has this problem at high settings and Vsync turned off. They need to add an FPS cap option, and also you need to check your facts.
  10. Maybe try to play the game at maxed settings and turn Vsync off I bet my own *** that your laptop will begin to cpu throttle and heat up A LOT within 10 mins... Even people with cpu heatsinks are reporting these problems mate, and again, my cooling IS good I play Skyrim at absolute maxed graphics with 50-60 celsius tops after a long game session. Your laptop will prolly hit 100+ celsius when you try what i said.
  11. I forgot to mention that this is with Vsync turned off. turn it off, and check again. tons of people are reporting swtor heat problems around the net.
  12. The whole point of this post is to tell bioware that THEY NEED TO ADD A FPS-LIMITER OPTION INGAME FOR THOSE WHO PLAY WITHOUT V-SYNC ENABLED. (vsync has its own issues, so many people prefer to play with it turned OFF) Edit: The heat problem is meant for those who PLAY WITH VSYNC TURNED OFF and doesnt spend 500$+ just on PC cooling, but play on an average comp with subpar cooling, or bought a PC on bestbuy etc. This is what the majority actually does, and they are the ones having the issues with SWtor. Dont expect an average guy to install heatsinks just to make SWtor run like BF 3 does without heatsinks. My comp doesnt overheat, but then again i built it myself with good cooling, and i notice SWtor stress the comp more then other games. This is a known problem with SWtor atm. This is especially With VSYNC TURNED OFF and often during quest conversations. Many PC's heat up a lot in SWtor, even on PC's that play Crysis, Skyrim, Rift etc on ultra and maxed AA without any heat issues at all. I can also confirm that SWtor heats up a lot more on my well cooled rig than other more intense games (both mmos and normal games) on my PC with 5 fans, good airflow, 2600 i7, nvidia 560ti, 8bg ram etc. It pulls off other much more graphic intense games like Skyrim, BF 3, Crysis, Rift etc on maxed settings without fans kicking in at all. I can play those games at 50-59 celcius. But SWtor without vsync heats up a lot more, especially during quest conversations where the big difference is, and my fans kick in often. So is this the reason why bioware has kept high res out of the game? There is some sort of poor programming job? Again for the people who didnt see: WITH VSYNC TURNED OFF (vsync brings input lag to mouse/keyboard for many people, if you're thinking of playing any serious pvp/pve) and while in QUEST CONVERSATIONS, this problem really occures. Before you post something "i got no issue bro". Try the game at maxed settings, turn vsync off and start a quest conversation and leave it there for 5-10 mins. the comp will heat up a lot more then in other games. It is a problem that many on reddit, mmo-champion etc has posted as well. The game needs a FPS cap option, so we can set it to 40, 50, 60 etc. This will help on the heating the game makes as well. Vsync is a poor way to deal with this, since Vsync can add slight input lag to many people, especially those with good latency and are doing more serious pvp where fast timing/reactions are vital. WORKAROUND FOR NVIDIA CARDS: -Download Nvidia Inspector -Select the star wars: old republic profile -Change the "FPS Limit" under "common" to 60, or any FPS of your choice. This workaround will help a lot for those who are tired of their fans kicking in much more in SWtor compared to other games. After doing this, my comp is more silent and runs cooler then before. I would recommend this for everyone running without Vsync. -With Vsync turned OFF, SWtor will stress the GPU at a constant 100% because there is no FPS-limter ingame. This can cause much more heating then necessary.
  13. I honestly think that the high res textures has something to do with the heat issues many have with SWtor. The PC's heat up A LOT during cutscenes, where high res seems to be enabled. Even on PC's that play crysis, skyrim etc on ultra and maxed AA without any heat issues at all.
  14. This game needs chat bubbles bad! The current chat is awful, and even if there might be someone who's against bubbles, then just let them turn it off.
  15. Yes. The current chat is awful.
  16. I have to agree that im getting really tired of walking through lots of loading zones every time i just want to leave a planet. If i land on the republic fleet, I dont want to walk out of my ship-load screen, then walk to the elevator-load screen, THEN im there. If i go to a new planet its worse, first i need to go through 2 load screens to just get to my ship. once i select the planet and land, i need to go through 2 more loadscreens, and tons of walking (no mount allowed) on the HUGE spaceport before im actually there. They could have skipped several of the loadscreens by letting you load directly from ship to the main inside of republic fleet for example.
  17. It takes about 1.5 second from the time you hit the ability, until the animation of the ability finishes and the effect actually takes place (your enemies gets pushed back) on Force Wave. This is very clunky in PvP because of this: Scenario 1: You face an enemy in PvP/PvE who also has the Force Wave ability (overload as sith), you both press the ability, you wait 1.5 sec for animation to finish (sith version is slightly faster..again, sith has upper hand), both waste their 20 sec CD, but only ONE actually gets their ability to take effect. It leaves the other pushed away, with 20 sec remaining cd on the ability (usually the jedi consular, because their animation is inferior to sith's overload) and your INSTANT ability did nothing, but still consumed the CD + energy. Scenario 2: You face any other class with a stun, a knockback, or a push ability, and once they see you cast the laggy Force Wave, they simply use one of their abilities before your 1.5 sec animation actually finishes, even if you spent your 20 sec Force Wave cooldown. Again, making your Force Wave do nothing, even if its "instant" and consumed a CD and energy. This needs to be adressed. And if it was "intended" for it to be slow as hell, then why is the jedi consular version 0.5 sec slower then the sith version?
  18. Please fix the 1-2 second lag to Force Wave caused by the animation, its making the ability very clunky and unfunctional in most occasions. I even compared it to the sith mirror version, and they have a slightly faster animation on this ability as well (but both are still laggy) This also goes to all the other abilities that already suffers from animation lag of course. 19. When i saw how ugly the endgame pvp gear looked on sentinels/guardians, it was the last drop for me to reroll. Now i noticed that endgame pvp gear looks bad in general on almost every single class in the game. lvl 20-45 armor looks way better, and also "stronger". ADD PVP MODS PLEASE, ENDGAME PVP ARMOR LOOKS AWFUL!
  20. The lag caused by the animation on project needs to go! It should be instant -> instant damage. Not making us wait 2 sec until the damage actually hits, which it currently does. It's annoying seeing that the sith mirror classes doesnt have the same problem, and their "project" mirror ability hits instantly. Force wave also has animation lag, and same with mind crush. it simply ruins the gameplay. Bioware, balance and fix the game please!
  21. 1: Operatives/Scoundrels 2: Sage/Sorceror 3: Commando 4: The well played sentinels/marauders (the ones that does stuff 100% right, which can be hard with all their abilities) Bottom: Guardian/Juggernaut
  22. It's really saddening that you cant wear modified pvp gear at 50 atm :/ Modified armor needs to have 100% the same stats potential as top pvp gear, otherwise it would be gimped. When i saw how ugly the best pvp gear looked for sentinels and guardians especially, i seriously wanted to cancel my sub. It looks truly crap.
  23. That just proves that the devs has done a VERY sloppy job! I also noticed that the sith juggernaut has an aoe CC that lasts 9 secs, while the Guardian mirror ability only lasts 6 secs. Whats up with the poor job they did in beta? People complained about it, but bioware did nothing.
  24. Exactly, and I would atleast expect mirror classes to be balanced. But the animations and the difference in damage lag they give is stupid. Getting a killing blow is MUCH easier with an ability that has 0 second lag, compared to 2 second lag. Its vital, and Bioware failed at it.
