Do you know what "disaster" means? It sounds like transferring servers fixed the problem. If you can fix it in a few minutes, how the hell is it a disaster?
Which, by the way, is even assuming light population servers is any kind of bad thing. People keep throwing around phrases like, "but soon the servers will be deserted and the end of the world will ensue!" How...? From my perspective, there would be 100 people running around who I DO NOT want to interact with instead of 1000. Where is the problem in that?
Even if there will be too many servers in the future, that's no excuse for taking no action now. I thing a big company like Bioware can afford to buy a truckload of servers, use them for the first few months of heavy traffic, then consolidate servers later on IF there are too few active accounts on one to make them happy. They then sell off their excess servers. There is no law preventing companies from using eBay. Or better yet, take all the servers they used to make game-launch actually ENJOYABLE, and create a mobile server powerhouse they can then loan/sell to NEW mmo's, so THEY can have enjoyable launches, and so on and so forth, creating a better world for years to come.
