    fixing warzones

I too hate it. Apparently it comes about when people que but don't enter the warzone. Or so I have heard. 16 people que, warzone is created, I am guessing teams are assigned before you enter, some don't take the warzone, group with 8 group with 6. Group with 8 takes the lead quickly, gets credit toward their daily after a a minute and a half. It is just dumb luck, and I have both benefited from it and been bothered by it.
  2. I like the idea. I try to look at the PvP forums for something interesting, but it is mostly "Nerf this" "This is why this is OP" "This is why we are not OP". To be honest, Bioware could nuke most of the PvP forums and I wouldn't mind. It's mostly people whining either about other classes, or proposed changes that they know will "break the game". Example: all those crying when they said they would change champ bags, before it was even known how exactly it would be changed.
  3. I wouldn't worry too bad about it. Its similar to playing your first warzone as a level 10 in the 10-49 bracket. I did little damage at first, but I now have full centurion with a champion offhand and helm, and do pretty well. I'm a casual hardcore player. I take the game seriously and play well when I do, but I work and have a kid so I can't spend more than 2 hours in game tops. If you want proof, spend a few hours leveling an alt to level 10 and join a warzone, it will be the same experience. As you said before, you were at the top of your bracket and now are at the bottom, it will get better quick, as they made the gearing up process pretty smooth. I've got full centurion, and am working on champion now. Plus, they will soon be making it easier to get champion, which is only a small fraction worse than battlemaster.
  4. Then re-roll sorc and quit b!$ching. I was not implying that one would wait in their endzone and try to heal at the same time, but one could have the ability to wait in their endzone, and also have other benefits to the game if not doing that, which you seem to think operatives do not have. I have been a benefit to my team in Huttball more times than I can count and I have seen other operatives benefit my team or the other team way more times than that. I'm sorry if the same can not be said for you. I don't know what else to say. Personally, I think it is fine.
  5. If it isn't a roll you want to play don't do it. I'm fine with doing it occasionally if my team is low on healers and I know that the ball carrier can only last a quick run down into the pit and pass it up to me. Sure, they are playing with 7, but in most PUGs they don't form groups of more than 3 or 4 for a small time. Plus, me being stealthed behind their lines waiting for a pass is more valuable than you stealthing around waiting to gank people low on health or people undergeared so you can keep up your damage and kills. (I understand that this is presumptuous, but since you think your only roll is to get kills and damage, this maximizes both of those) In most good pre-mades the players try to win the game and not focus on doing as much damage as possible. I was against one group with a sorc sitting on our bridge pulling the ball carrier to him. Another sorc on his team did 400k damage, where he did just south of 100k. He did however, help their team score on all 6 goals. Which one of those sounds more important to the win?

    Not OP?

So Sorcerers are OP, Powertechs are OP, Operatives are OP, and now Marauders are OP? What class isn't f'ing OP? Do you people really have nothing better to whine about? And also, if all the classes are OP, are any of them really. Any class could be shown doing just this. To me that means they aren't OP, maybe I'm crazy. I've seen posts of youtube videos of every class being well geared and well played, and people whine that they are OP. You people have the attention span of baby gnats. It wasn't even a month ago when it was nothing but Operatives are OP, then two weeks ago Sorcerers are OP. Are the pvp forums really "Wait two weeks and pick a new class to whine about being OP"?
  7. Then do not focus on damage and kills. I am usually middle of the pack in damage and kills, but try more to help out the team. Focus on picking off healers, attacking the ball carrier, waiting for passes. I'm not doing as much damage as I could be attacking people nowhere near the objectives, but I help the team win.
  8. Personally I love being an OP in huttball. I stealth behind their lines, they pass it to me. I stealth onto their bridge, our tank jumps to me. I stunlock their ball carrier over the fire. And the best one, they pass it to a player on the bridge, I make them faceplant off of the bridge and intercept the pass. That's only happened twice I believe, but all and all it's fun. Can I run headfirst into their group? No. Is there something to be accomplished in Huttball? Yes
  9. I play Empire and I have to say good job. I can't see why people are saying that Illum is time better spent than this. This involves real fighting, with a real objective, and the people who you kill are trying not to be killed. This could turn into a massive PvP battle if the other side gets enough people to try and take it back. I have to believe that randomly attacking another faction's city is better than Nascar any day of the week.
  10. What? Logic? You don't need that on these forums!!!11! Of course it could be abused. Of course they know that. Of course they will try to take actions to prevent that. Could it still be abused after going live? Yes. If it is abused after going live will I complain? Yes. We don't know right now if this will be implemented well, or if it will cause people to get booted for being undergeared/low level. Personally, if they implement it well I would love to kick AFKers. I have only seen one, but I have seen him far too many times. The thought that I could vote to kick him and cause him to wait to que again is awesome. But how about you show some restraint for now and not be insane posting that this system we haven't even seen yet is going to cause people grief. Maybe that is too logical for most people, but it's what I try to do.
  11. You aren't the one doing anything wrong. Other people are exploiting to allow for extra que's for their team, and you are one of those extra que's. I never do it, but when I que solo I occasionally get in as the 9th or 10th man. I always wondered what was going wrong there. I thought they just let the matches have more people during the busier times.
  12. I've tried doing Illum since I hit 50, and have maybe logged 2 hours total on that planet. I've made it to Valor rank 45 doing nothing but warzones, and I'll keep going steady. I figure this way it isn't just a gear grind, I'm actually playing and getting gear along the way. Sure I'm not getting it as fast as possible, but I'm not bored as he11 getting it either. I have to agree, Illum isn't PvP at all. In my time there I have driven in circles trying to open chests. Occasionally a poor Republic player would come to the middle and get swarmed by about 8 or so Imperial players. So yes, I am eagerly awaiting some good open world PvP and not something to help people get valor/gear by not PvPing. I still enjoy the warzones, so I'm not about to complain.
  13. I'm not going to argue against being a coward, or camping and running, but it isn't greifing in a game warning sense. You can be morally against doing that, but ganking lowbies, camping open world bosses, camping datacron locations should all be allowed in open world PvP. It sucks when it happens to you, but there are ways to avoid it if you are getting ganked. Go somewhere else, get on an alt, or...if you are getting ganked by a 50 in a lowbie zone, get on your 50 and start camping him. Odds are if they are ganking lowbies they aren't that good at PvP, and will run away as soon as they get some real fighting. If you don't want the chance of getting ganked, don't roll on a PvP server. I'm not about to say that it is by any means a nice thing to do, but it should be allowed and this is a game. Killing any other player in any situation isn't "nice". If they think that open world PvP is "ruining their fun" they shouldn't be on a PvP server. I have never once gotten ganked in an open world setting and gotten mad, if anything I get excited. "OH man, this just got real". I enjoy open world PvP both when being the attacker and attackee(Correct word?) Moral of the story, yes, this game is for carebears.
  14. I don't need screenshots to believe it happened. I'm guessing that the OP did get a warning. But... 1) I doubt he is telling the whole truth. If his wanted to camp a spawn for 2 hours to prevent republics from taking it down, go for it. I have done this before. Find a zone with Empire NPCs, and help out any NPCs fighting Republic players. Is it annoying, sure. Should it be allowed, yes. Has it happened to me, of course. I have done this several times and not gotten any warning. We might be missing the part of the story where a heated exchange took place in General chat, or they camped the Republic rez zone, ect. 2) Tagging a boss so they can't get it is wrong, and I believe abusing game mechanics. Kill them, wait for them to engage the boss and help out by taking out their tank or healers, that's fine. I don't think tagging should be done though. I'll agree Bioware should fix this, and I know it will be done till they do. All in all, I do think this game is way too carebear focused. I've played MMO's since EQ, SWG, and even Runescape. They all had real penalties for death in PvP, be it item loss, exp loss, zone kickouts, corpse run, ect. WoW broke that, and with MMOs becoming the crazy popular machines they are the vast majority of MMO "gamers" and just gamers in general became idiots that companies have to pander to.
  15. Hah. This post makes me laugh. Two nights ago people were going insane saying that Bioware was going to break the game by messing with Champion bags, and I said wait and see what they actually plan before going crazy. Now look at this. This is a nice change, I wish I had saved my bags instead of listening to the "the sky is falling" croud and opened two hoping for a nice random number.
  16. I actually think that one of the expansion ideas in the future will be optional quests to faction swap. The classes are essentially interchangeable anyways, I wouldn't be suprised if we see it in the future. Think about it, a smuggler deciding that he likes his chances better joining with the Empire for protection. An agent gone rogue and decides to help the rebellion. A republic trooper cuts loose and trys his had at bounty hunting. A bounty hunter getting tired of the rebellion and joining the war effort. Granted, everyone's story is cliche, but it works with lore, adds lots of good cinematics and story telling (Which is what Bioware likes) and could help (or hurt) faction imbalance. There we go, I called it. Now I can say I told you so when it goes live.

  19. This next sentence will seem harsh, so I apologize beforehand. You still are 7th out of 8 on your team in kills, so not much to brag about. Now for the goodwill. Heals are great, off the charts. The empire side just didn't get many kills. That's probably because they didn't have a healer. Heck, you more than doubled their entire team in healing, maybe tripled (I didn't look at the numbers too long). Being an Imperial, we usually suck at Voidstar. I guess it's too much huttball or something, but we aren't usually as good at it. Your team simply killed them more than they killed your team, so obviously your kills will be higher than even their highest kill number. I'm not trying to slight you at all, looks like you singlehandedly kept your team alive, I just don't think a pure numbers game around kills is a good gauge of your superiority over another team in this situation. Again, good warzone there, you deserved way more than 2 MVP votes.

    Cut BW some slack!

I have to agree. This community sucks. I'll occasionally look on the forums for interesting content or advice, and every time I just see 99% of the posts and threads be people whining. I'm not saying everyone has to be peachy with everything, but this community is terrible.
  21. I have to disagree. If 1v1 arenas were implemented they would most likely give out gear, and then yes, it would be a good reason to quit or at least not play a certain class. And with balance, I think the game does alright. No, not all classes can take on all others in 1v1, but they don't need to. They have their roles. Rogue style classes: Good burst DPS, good 1v1 against squishies, good CC in 1v1, not good against tanks or in groups. Healers: Good heals, low DPS, some CC Ranged DPS classes: Good DPS and survivability, won't overpower a class 1v1 though. (Or I should say "shouldn't") Tanks: Good damage taking, low DPS. I know I simplified it, and I'm sure that the numbers could use some tweaking, but if you try to balance it for 1v1 duels it takes these roles away. That is why there is the emphasis on group PvP.
  22. Well, call me old fashioned, but I played MMOs before everything was on rails and kids had to decide between being good or bad. So yes, with the way the game is now it is impossible. I'm just saying, adding an option for 1v1 fights wouldn't improve PvP. More ideas to fix it: Player cities you build, and defend from opposing faction. You have a stake in it and have a reason to defend it. Let the factions be optional, making neutral an option. Allow guilds to war each other, again with player cities. You can base who you fight off of people you actually want to compete with not simply "Your tag is red so I am going to fight you". These are ideas for a completely different game, and SWTOR could never go in that direction. Sure, they are basically SWG's PvP mechanics, but the idea between SWG was awesome. Implementation of the actual game was not great, but it was a lot better than saying one side is good, one side is bad, you will fight them in this warzone.
  23. That mentality comes from the fact that they have to balance the game in 1v1 fights for all classes against all other classes. This means that they will be walking on egg shells and each class will be similar to the others. With space combat, they don't have to alter PvP or PvE stats to keep all classes in line with the content. This would not be the case with 1v1 duels.
  24. You can duel to get 1 v 1 fights. Should be "How to Fix PVP: Fix OPEN WORLD PVP" Instanced PvP gets way too stale after a while, but it is all any developers focus on. Give us item loss on death, loot on death (Only for world PvP) and quit focusing on instanced PvP where the only incentive is getting new gear and not actually about the fight at all.
