Maybe itll calm all the ragers down a bit if we got some sort of an update as to whats going on or when we can expect the servers to be up again. Thanks
If you have seen the result of that in any prior similar situation you wouldn't be asking that question, it usually just gets worse when they recieve information, they twist and turn it to say it means something completely different

Restarting a game server usually means:
1. Shutting down the services
1a. (possibly/optional) making a few backups of crucial databases
2. restarting the servers
3. checking the logs for unexpected error messages
4. starting up the services needed
5. check the logs for unexpected error messages
6. launch server software
7. check logs for unexpected error messages
if you get unexpected error messages, attempt to correct and/or start over from 1.

sorry it was actually stated in multiple areas that the number was around 30%
Source for that?
I have yet found a single official post anywhere on the internet that the SWTOR part of Bioware has had a 30% layoff, "some" is the only statement that I've seen
-
half of which just got laid off
I must have missed something, but since when does some of an unknown number equal half of that same unknown number?
Hi everyone,I’ll start off by calling out the elephant in the room: yes, there was some restructuring here at the studio recently and we had to bid farewell to some of our colleagues and yes, we are all deeply saddened by this.

the coders are sitting there making the hundreds of cut scenes to fit those voice overs, they could be sitting there making new planets, new ops and flashpoints. but instead they are sitting there figuring out how to make mouth movements look right for the voice over work, id rather have the new content, and not the shiney cut scenes.
Multiple different teams, it's been stated an absurd amount of times, Multiple different teams, the development process for current and future content is made by Multiple different teams, I didn't forget to mention that there are Multiple different teams, did I?
tl;dr Multiple different teams

I don't think I would mind if the side quests and world quests were scaled back to being the classic wall of text to read rather than a full-blown cut-scene. I love the class stories and what VO does for them, but if it helped with development resources, I would not mind seeing the side and world quests scaled off of full VO.
It would bother me a great deal since different classes, alignment and genders gets somewhat different greetings and responses in the "shared" quests and is one of the things that keeps me hooked, without it I'm not sure I could keep up the interest.

You're honestly going to claim a survey is real that offers:
Luke Skywalker's land speeder (in a KOTOR time frame)
An Ewok Pet
Salacious Crumb lizard monkey
a level cap increase of only 2 levels (lol)
price points that offer 5x more content at $10 than at the $40 range. Obviously the pranksters got bored with thinking up content for the higher price points, and simply stopped it there.
This joke of a survey is so obvious I'm surprised anyone falls for it, let alone defends it, haha.
Now the other possibility is that this is a phantom survey from SWG, resurrected from the archives of Google or something. At least the content would make sense, if not the pricing structure.
Actually the different package contents and pricing is to gauge what people are willing to pay for and where the sweet spot is, I've done (with done I mean filled, not created) tons of similar surveys over the years, for beverages, music, movies, clothes, games etc, while the survey might not be officially Biowares, the statistics the 3rd party surveyer gathers can be used/sold.
I don't think the survey was particularly well made but I've seen far worse.

So BW/EA attempts to stimulate the game economy and make crafters worthwhile by allowing crafters to create "crit-crafted" gear that adds augment slots to individual gear, and now with the upcoming publishes, the augmented slots are automatically added by anyone.
This is why people continually leave this game. The player works to improve their characters and attempts to be rewarded for their work in sales or combat: in this case grind crafters to make top of the line gear: then soon after everything is just handed to all players for nothing. This has been a cycle since the release of the game in all areas of the game. Noone has a desire to work for anything in this game or spend time doing it because sooner or later (generally "sooner") it will just be handed to them for free with no effort.
Soon all crafting professions will be near worthless yet again. Put another check in the "wiinning" column for BW/EA.
[sarcasm]
Yeah, what were they thinking, first they let crafters critcraft gear to add augment slots to it then they let anyone add augment slots to their gear using nothing but credits and augment kits, augment kits that the same aforementioned crafter crafts, it's crazy
[/sarcasm]

While I'm exaggerating, yes tagging an armor as "adaptable" as in it gets armor value according to which class it's worn by, is extremely easy.
If content promises for 1.4 is enough for you, that's ok. I, too, can live with that. But it's not enough to attract new players or players that have unsubbed.
Yes, as a concept it could be seen as easy but I know from experience that in programming that concept and reality rarely, if ever, mesh and an easy concept is rarely easy to implement (especially after the fact) in reality.

Ok I've been on hiatus, enjoying my free game time by NOT playig SWTOR for a week now. I'm unbelievably happy with it. Not to mention I am (was?) planning to return to the game with 1.3. Needless to say I was expecting a LOT from BW since all the game medium has been shaking with news of how SWTOR subs collapsed.
Now, of course I know we're getting more or less what we have been promised for the last couple of months, yet what surprises me is, how can:
-Group finder (which is a more simpler code than you think, but of course has a lot of bug risks)
-Adaptable social armor (which is probably 2 lines of code)
-Augment tables (need I say something)
-Legacy XP boost unlocks (again...)
-Character transfers (which is already an available script as far as we know)
be considered a major patch with its own name "Allies" ? In the same interview Daniel says they will be no new content in 1.3. Now if they were implementing server merges instead of transfers, that would be some sizeable code work.
* First off, as far as we know this is in total 1 day of coding and 2 weeks of bug testing TOPS, for a company size of BW.
* Secondly, doesn't BW have any designers, modellers, story writers or level designers left? If there are any, what are all of them doing all this time? Nothing at all?...
* And lastly, how can BW consider this patch will attract ANY players at all? Is anyone supposed to say "hey augment tables is coming, I'm totally gonna try out SWTOR now!!" while other developers are working their *** off to attract gamers and casuals alike.
Of course if 1.3 hits on time I'll try to enjoy the transfers and group finder, but doing the same old content all over again doesn't sound attractive at all. I'l probably unsub while waiting for 1.4.
Ok...... so from this we can conclude that you either have zero programming knowledge or just enough programming knowledge in BASIC to think that you know what you are talking about without actually having a clue, enough said.

Really, bringing posts over from TERA? If the most innovatice combat in MMOs can't keep people how do you expect a game where every server is in decline to survive? If this game keep 500,000 players at this rate of content/community interaction it will be a miracle. Now Bioware can always change that but the numbers aren't getting any better as players wait on info which is "soon."
Yes, TERA's combat system is quite innovative, which might keep you hooked for a week or two, then you notice that the rest of the game (except for maybe the politics system) in my opinion is far below SWTOR (doesn't matter if you think SWTOR is great, ok or that it sucks, TERA's worse).
-
The game has a ton of flaws....that's a fact, not an opinion.
The game has a few flaws that can be considered as facts and a ton of different things that some people consider flaws due to their own opinion, and that's a fact.
-
Nightmare Lands (Empire & Republic) & Luka Sene (Republic)
Average on fleet - A tiny portion of the total server population (a population that seems pretty healthy).
-
I'm greatly attached to my characters, especially my Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent.
I've only seen 1 person so far that's even close to my BH in gear looks and only a couple IA's, so no, I don't have any problem feeling unique and 1.3+ will further increase the chance of diversity with augment tables and armor adaptable social gear.
-
I have 16 characters I play (some a little more seldom than other) and I rarely spacebar through dialogs, doesn't matter if it's the same quest I've done on 8 other characters since mostly they are either of a different gender, class or "morality" which means that a lot of the responses differs somewhat even if the end is more or less the same.
-
They already have enough undercover employee's boosting the positive thread count.
You could say that the same goes for the hired bashers from other developers.
-
On the contrary, in my opinion voice acting in tandem with the cutscenes, choreographed combat and focus on story is what pushes SWTOR over most other MMO's.
Other MMO's like Tera has an interesting "new" combat system which was interesting for a couple of days before I got bored with it and then I noticed that the game was in almost every other aspect an extremely pale WoW clone.

...................
I understand that timelines are dangerous and how perilous it is to reveal features before they are ready in such a volatile community environment. I get all of that, believe me I do.
..........................................................................................................
I genuinely feel like the health and future of this game depends on the developers being more forthcoming and doing so...immediately.
We need to know the plans for transfers/lfg/ranked pvp. We need to know more and a tentative timeline would be sincerely appreciated. My largest concern is how these three things interact with each other.
....................................................................
Obviously you don't understand, you might think you do but you really don't.

So, I have a few minutes while the last MOB Aric shot with his invisible cannon realizes that he's dead and flops to the ground, and I thought I'd relay some impressions I have of the game to date. And this is not a QQ of the issues pertaining to PvP, or this or that class, but a set of recommendations to those who take up this game:
<snipped the rest>
I can have a go too.
Neither I or my friends have encountered much of what the OP has, the problems the OP states are in my opinion highly exagerated or atleast not common to every player, sure the game has bugs, but I and my friends have only encountered minor glitches and non-severe bugs (except for a few that was hotfixed pretty fast) so far and we've been playing since release.
So my recommendation is to try the game out and make up your own mind, don't listen to me or the OP.

For example:
• Face masks on Sith purebloods. At present, certain helms do not show up. Initially this was escalated as a bug, which it indeed is, but it was then reclassified as "working as intended".
• Hoods and helms not showing up on other species or companions. "Working as intended."
• The "big butt" problem experienced by many jedi players using the medium body frame. "Working as intended". (Yes, I was actually told to post a SUGGESTION about this and that it was not a bug.)
Working as intended means that it works in more or less the best capacity the current framework supports (ie within it's limitations), it doesn't necessarily mean that it might not be changed/improved in the future if/when they manage to migrate/improve the framework, it just means that currently "it's working as intended".
The "big butt" problem is caused by a "limitation" in the fabric physics and models to avoid clipping problems (or atleast lessen it as much as possible, I believe there's been a statement about the same thing applying to helmets).
That the way it works isn't to your satisfaction or doesn't suit your needs does not mean it's a bug.
if it is "Working as intended" and you don't like it then you submit a suggestion on how you would like it to be.
Whenever I see this phrase for something which is clearly not working properly, I lose a little respect for the person that has posted it and feel a little more as though Bioware staff do not uniformly realise the importance of maintaining a sense of honesty and truth with its community.
Please keep in mind that I am not trying to bash Bioware staff or the company as a whole, nor am I trying to categorise all staff as being equally to blame for this issue, but the use of phrases such as "working as intended" do not go down well with paying customers. When there are issues, make it clear to customers that you recognise the issues, no matter how seemingly small or trivial. Please do not try to gloss over issues and hope that they go away or that customers will stop noticing.
As the saying goes, if you want to be given respect, you have to show it. I give full kudos and respect to my fellow customers and the developers of this game, but you must not try to talk down to us or try to fob us off. The more that players feel ignored, the worse the perception of customer service and this is not something that you want to lose customers over.
Kindest and sincerest thoughts
llesna
I have no problem with the phrase "Working as intended" because I understand what it means (see my answer above).

IF Microtransactions are brought into The Old Republic, what do you want to see in the store?
What do you not want to see in the store?
If they implement microtransactions then the only things I'd like to see in it is purely cosmetic things that still would be possible to acquire ingame, anything else and they'd better offer an exit door for free.

yeah, losing 25 percent of your subscribers in a 5 month old game
yeah, bioware didnt mess up at all......
~25% dropoff is what you actually expect a brand new MMO to usually have within the first 3 months before levelling out and slowly start to climb, that's the average number mostly all of the more or less successful MMO's have had since...... well ever, that it took SWTOR almost 6 months to reach that number is a good sign, but a naysayer will never listen to this so why bother.
The ~25% represents the people who jump from ship to ship, people just trying the game out while waiting for something else, people who just play any game through once or twice and get bored, people whose real life priorities changes, children who try and hold their breath in the hopes that their parents give in and give them candy or icecream etc

Article can be found here.
Pretty sad actually. They said that the lay off rumors were just rumors at that, but apparently, they aren't at all. They'll be laying off even more workers in upcoming months.
So you, glanced at an article and decided to start spreading lies and false information?
The Redwood City-based video-game maker said the number of active subscribers to its "Star Wars: The Old Republic" game fell by 400,000 to 1.3 million from the beginning of February to the end of March. On a conference call with analysts and investors, EA executives attributed the decline to a drop-off in "casual" players and those who were just testing it out. A growing portion of the total number of subscribers are actually paying to play the game, they said.EA invested years and millions of dollars into the massively multiplayer online game, which some analysts expected to rival Activision's popular "World of Warcraft." Company officials said they will continue to invest in the game and plan to focus on growing its subscriber base.
"I understand that a lot of investors are very interested in 'Star Wars,' " said CEO John Riccitiello. But, he added, "The game's performance is very much in line with our original assumptions ... and what we've been guiding folks to over the last couple of years."
EA spokesman Jeff Brown declined to say how many workers EA would lay off and whether any EA workers in the Bay Area would be affected. But Brown said the number of layoffs would be "small." EA plans to hire in other areas of its company, he said. On the call, Ken Barker, EA's interim chief financial officer, said the company expects to end its fiscal year with 9,700 employees, up from 9,200 now.Next time you want to spread fear, read what you link to.
EDIT: Stocks always drop when there's a rumour about layoffs and there's no information to why they are laying off people, after they released the information the stock regained some of the strength (not all because some people are still cautios or already diversified into something else).
SWTOR is still getting funded, doing as well as they've asumed, go Doom & Gloom somewhere else please, you were wrong.

if swtor becomes F2P i will quit....
Most probably the same thing here.
The GTN Is Broken
in General Discussion
Posted · Edited by WereMops
I sell the items for the price that I'd be willing to pay myself (which incidently usually is quite a bit below the highly inflated standard market price, the same goes for every MMO), I mean why would I expect someone else to pay more money for something than what I myself would be willing to pay for the same item, that's just rediculous.
EDIT: The GTN is fine, it's the players greed that's broken, has been in many MMO's, for a very loooooong time
