  1. No, in this context, what the OP is saying this game needs, is not something that is that important in the Star Wars movies. They were not exploring space, they were not patrolling space, heck they weren't even doing any Kessel Runs either. If you look at how space combat is portrayed in the movies, it is pretty much on rails.
  2. See, here is why nothing will ever work. My level 50 main is going to get renamed because someone else has a level 1 alt they have never logged into since creating it, just because they have a higher legacy. As for the OPs suggestion, I don't think BW is going to waste too much time in something that by the time it kicks in, will have little benefit because people will have been used to their new names. Unless there was a more general system of releasing names and renaming existing characters that could work to everyone's benefit.
  3. The problem is that the space missions feel detached from the rest of the game, which is the story. Now I get they probably don't want to make them mandatory, but it would be nice if they made them an optional integration to more of the content. Something where the missions could be part of Flashpoints or traveling to planets, where completing them and the bonus objectives would affect the FP or give you some sort of benefit while on the planet would make them feel more a part of the game/story. While a full free roaming space addition would be nice, I think that is expecting way too much, especially since the rest of the game is on rails too.
  4. But will you even be able to apply the CD-key then?
  5. Will that even be worth $4.35 when F2P launches?
  6. Cant remember exact prices, but it is something like 1200 CC for one character or 2700 CC for an account wide license.
  7. Purple mods need the Artifact License.
  8. Yes, but you can send e-mails to your alts (might need to have a Legacy).
  9. It depends on the bonus. If you look at the chart, anything with a 1, 2, 5 or 6 has the wording "WITH ACTIVE PAYING SUBSCRIPTION ON DATE OF FREE-TO-PLAY SERVICE LAUNCH", so you will need to be active at the launch. 1, 2 and 6 are all things that are aimed towards people who bought and paid prior to the F2P announcement. That leaves things numbered 3 and 4 (Party Jawa and 200 coins per month respectively). Now these, I'm not even sure based on the wording if you have to maintain an uninterrupted subscription from August 1 to F2P launch or what so I won't even speculate.
  10. With the voice acting and cut scenes there was no way there would be any species that didn't look, sound or behave close enough to human. Companions are where we get to see a little diversity, but not much.
  11. Why the rush? The game is not coming out tomorrow. If it literally launches with no information beforehand, you will have a point. All that info is available for people who do a little reading in the forums. They are not going to waste putting up inaccurate information on the main page that will be changing on an ongoing basis. They also aren't going to put all their effort into promoting the F2P launch too long before. The closer to launch, the more hype carries to launch. Besides, the bolded part is flat out false because any of the games you have named before have been proven to have worse or the same communication as this.
  12. There are Marvel readers who think otherwise. Though even based on Marvel, we would only see something affecting this game if Disney decided to use this game for other stuff. For example, if Disney was going to make a show based on this, or bring out toys, we might see stuff being added that just happened to be in those other things.
  13. As said, could be sticky key settings. Shift, Ctrl and Alt are all affected by this setting.
  14. I started playing MMOs with UO, EQ, AC, DAoC, etc, etc, etc. I'd buy the box and give anything a month or two to decide if I'd stick around longer, even scooping up each expansion and trying it again. Those games never had anywhere near the subscribers companies expect now, and I don't even know if the people who helped those pioneering games are willing to go through that cycle anymore, I know this is the last game I am ever paying a sub for. Doesn't mean that F2P will make everyone play and pay, but it removes a barrier that is definitely keeping a lot of people out. It is not just EA realizing this (in fact, they are just following the trend).
  15. Could things be better presented? Sure, however http://www.swtor.com/free (even mentions the preview videos series which I didn't link to) http://www.swtor.com/info/news/news-article/20121023-0 http://www.swtor.com/info/news/%5Bnews-category%5D/20121023 (mentions the patch notes which is your detailed list, as you can see it changes enough to not want to put it in a static article)
  16. Those are quite different examples than the complaints that BW is not communicating plans for future updates all the time. On one hand, yes, announcing something like the Scavenger Hunt better would make sure people don't miss it and know what to expect. On the other hand, WoW runs events (e.g. the ones right before expansions) with no notice or details. Their calendar is just of past events that are being repeated each year, not upcoming new features. In both cases those companies hold off any official detailed information until those additions are ready for release. How far in advance did people know about the GW2 Halloween event, and what are they telling players about what is coming in the next six months after it?
  17. So there is no point in communication because even if they were updating the customers weekly and interacting with the community everyday, they would not be spilling any of their dark secrets and you would just be saying they are not honest and what they say has not worth. This is usually what it boils down to, people don't want communication, they want validation. Just enjoy the game, if it isn't fun, take a break, if things get better, word of mouth spreads and come back.
  18. I guess this is somewhat ironic, but instead of them answering questions scattered across numerous threads, they collected all the questions and just posted a big Q&A (ironic, because they said one of the things they would do to increase communication was not do Friday Q&As). Obviously the devs (regardless of whatever reports may be of who is left) are working hard for 1.5. It would be nice to see more updates from them on the progress of the patch, even people testing on PTS are in the dark on certain aspects that would help in testing. However, it is not like they have not said anything either. They just don't waste time on posting for the sake of keeping the Dev Tracker busy.
  19. They won't remove/delete characters when they enforce the F2P restriction on Preferred Status accounts. What will happen is players who log in whlie in Preferred Status the first time after that patch will select which two characters (per server) they want to have access to while in Preferred Status. Anyone who cancels and then resubscribes will have access to all their characters again, whether they logged in as Preferred or not during the lapse in subscription.
  20. If there is not enough to chase after or have fun doing in game to justify $15 a month, what has kept you? If things get worse, then I'd quit too. However, Cash Shops happen in subscription games too. EQ2 had one long before they went F2P, EVE Online added one and even World of Warcraft has taken steps in that direction. I don't get the mentality that everything has to be attainable by everyone, especially when most of it is just recolored items already available. Most of this stuff would not even be bothered with if they were not selling it for cash. Again, if they stop putting in regular content or rewards for subscribers (or don't do a better job of it), well that kind of problem also exists for games that don't have Free Accounts or Cash Shops.
  21. To put it in terms that are used, there is Subscribing and Free-to-Play. Free-to-Play is then broken down to Preferred Status and Free Account. So, in the second question, when talking about reverting to F2P, it would be as a Preferred Status member.
  22. As a subscriber 99% of the game remains the same. The only immediately noticeable difference is going to be an orange glowing button for the Cartel Market. You will also see the amount of Cartel Coins you have in the currency tab of your inventory and there will be some inclusion of the Cartel Market in places like the Legacy screen when you choose to unlock a perk. You should be given some Cartel Coins at launch if you are still subscribed, and will get 500 (speculation) coins a month for every month you stay subscribed once F2P launches. You can also buy more coins and spend them however you want in the Cartel Market (or for various unlocks instead of credits if you have no interest in the Market items).
  23. Just speculation, but I would guess that anything you pick up while not subscribed and without a license will be flagged even though it is bound already. Bascially, our old stuff is not getting retroactively flagged.
  24. There is not function to do this. In the past, BW has copied whole guilds over to populate the server with what I guess they consider enough toons through the higher level ranges. Anyone else looking to help out will need to do so leveling characters the normal way.
  25. As a subscriber you don't have to pay the 350CC, just the 1 million credits. That's the way the game has always worked with Legacy (it is either that or do the whole thing again on each character who wants HK)
