  1. Probably not the best direct CC to Credit, since other items will sell for millions. But, definitely the best way to go about it, since you can buy the ship upgrades specifically without relying on RNG and Cartel Packs for the higher value items. Actually by allowing them to be obtained without RNG, and without making them BoP, it's a pretty good credit farm for people who can afford to turn real money into game money.
  2. Derp! I always forget about the server status page. Still down I see.
  3. Consider yourself lucky. Harbinger drops a LOT. A LOT LOT. And it's always the only one. I think it was the primary server they "dumped" characters to that didn't have active subs back during the merger. Like "Hey, these people probably wont be back and wont care they get the crap server, throw them on Harbinger!" Then, f2p and flood of resubs and "****, mebbe we shouldn't have overloaded that weak server."
  4. Heh, keep checking this thread hoping to see "Back up!" instead of "This sucks!"
  5. No. It's a feature we've been demanding for almost a year now. Can't even pay to do it atm. Even if possible, hard to tell if Legacy would go with them or only the characters. Legacy is the only reason I haven't started new characters on a more stable server yet.
  6. and always the same 1 server offline.
  7. I swear, it's *always* "just Harbinger" Even more annoying is the character rollback I know to anticipate. Hopefully only a few minutes, I'd hate to lose all the heroics I finally found groups for.
  8. Not sure what all has been said already but here's my advice... 1. Side missions! I know they're a drag, but they're usually clustered in with story missions in each sector, so why not eh. 2. Heroics. Grouping can be a pain, but the mobs are stronger, and tend to be a lot more of them, so more XP. Also a great source of comms and or custom gear. 3. Flashpoints. Run the appropriate flashpoint of your level a few times. Not only a great source of XP, but you get comms to upgrade gear, and possibility of loot drops! Also a good way to make money. 4. Bonus Series. This really only applies to Taris (on pub side) because it's the first and really only planet where you should be of the appropriate level when you finish the side missions and story missions, to start it before leaving. The Taris bonus series is usually enough to take me from 22-24. 5. Space Missions. The first 5 of them you'll unlock can easily be completed with level 1 ship upgrades and one hand tied behind your back. Not only do you get XP for the mission, but a small amount for the battle itself, and all the XP from killing things (really adds up). Also a fun way to make some quick credits while your companions are off on crew missions or crafting. When all is said and done, I'm usually level 11 when I get off starter planet, 18 or 19 when I get off Coruscant, 24 when I get off Taris, and 27-28 when I leave Nar Shaddaa. But I'm a crazy completionist. That's without many/any legacy unlocks. I do sub, so I don't suffer that 25% penalty after level 10, but even with the 25% penalty that puts f2p at about a proper level curve for the content.
  9. If you're a crafter, or know crafters, it's been my personal experience that of level blue recipes (at least from armormech) tend to be superior to oranges filled with planetary comm mods. If you are a cybertech, or know cybertechs, or are rich enough to GTN shop every few levels, then you can probably get away with modifying shells to be better, but only slightly usually. The real advantage to shell gear, is that you can customize your look. And keep it. Had a female sith sorcerer used to run around with a fun mix of various oranges to achieve a ****ty boho look. Current female smuggler is rocking a classy combination of formal top, hidden head piece, slave girl gloves, some brown pants, and i forget what boots but they look pretty nice... and the social 2 pilots belt i think, or the social 3, it's the one that isn't too gaudy but has the two balls on the back of it. Either way, you get the point... container gear allows you to customize whatever look you want for your character, and keep it up to par with modifications.
  10. While we're on the topic of selling junk items and saving every penny... Turn in those extra unused planetary commendations. Once you've geared up, if you have spares, buy a lockbox or two and sell the items. Don't have enough for a lockbox, stock up on 2 comm mods, head over to another vendor, and make a quick few hundred credits or more. That's about all I got that hasn't already been said. Good post, good thread!
  11. I'm also going to add that... The determining mod for armor value, is only the Armoring mod. Every other slot just adds whatever stat values the mod put into it hold. The determining mod for weapons base damage are either the hilt, or the barrel depending on if its a gun or a saber/sword. Every other slot just adds whatever stat values the mod put into it hold. Example for clarity sake: Orange Chestpiece Light Armor Base armor value with no mods - 8 Armor value with Resolve Armoring 5 - 120 Armor value with Resolve Armoring 5 and Resolve Modification 5 - Still 120 Armor value with Resolve Armoring 10 and Resolve Modification 5 - 280 Basically, it's just the Armoring/Barrel/Hilt that affects the direct weapon/armor's values. The other modifications just give you extra stat bonuses when that piece of equipment is worn. So you would be getting more wisdom and endurance from the Armoring and Modification, etc. Crap I hope I didn't just confuse you more. NOTE: All numbers completely made up to illustrate the example. Way too lazy to log into game, find a piece of armor, then start throwing in various levels of mods for factual numbers. That's all I really had to add/elaborate on.
  12. You won't miss much not doing the heroics. Just side story most people skip through, and quest rewards that aren't usually anything awesome. End game this is a different story, and Daily Comms are an integral part of early end game gearing. So you'll want to do the daily heroics at level 50 for the comms. I don't know who said social points play a big role end game. They play no role except a few social unlocks, emotes and whatnot, and the ability to equip the various social gear from the social vendors on each planet. This gear is all themed, and each set/planet will require different social levels to equip. It's all basically just empty shell, no set bonus, orange container gear... if you find a set you really like, work towards that social level, and make sure to keep up with all the mods for it.
  13. This fix brings me more joy than anything else in the entire patch. Thank you EAware for finally resolving this issue. I don't have your source code, and I don't know the specifics of your development team, so I'll refrain from making snide remarks about the time it took to fix. We as players can often times get caught up in our own distress and not consider the thousands of lines of code where something could be wrong, and the resources it takes to find and fix what sometimes seem like simple issues. Again, from a dedicated crafter, thank you!
  14. I believe I read in one of the other threads on this topic that they're aware of the problem and working on the fix. Hopefully we'll get an emergency maintenance to fix some of the newly introduced bugs, and fix things that were supposed to be fixed but weren't. But, given the purely aesthetic nature of this issue, it might not be that high on they're priority list.
  15. I love this word *should* every self entitled individual keeps throwing around, like they single handedly funded and developed this game. THIS SHOULD BE THAT. THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THIS SHOULD WORK LIKE I WANT. Should should should. Well, apparently someone other than you, who has more influence in these decisions concluded otherwise. And probably for better reasons than yours. And again, as I and many others have said, over and over again, people keep claiming there's no event. 1. We were never promised an event. Why *should* there be one? 2. We still don't know if there will be an event. Previous events were never acknowledged far ahead of time. Why *should* this holiday season be any different? And do you have some magic crystal ball I'm unaware of that allows you to state factually there's not going to be this event there *should* be?
  16. First, Life Day is part of Star Wars lore. Accept it. Second, blame the Wookies. Third, most of the customs of Life Day are very analogous with those of Christmas. This isn't corporate stuff made up so Evil EAware can get more money this holiday season. These customs were created through expanded universe lore long before SWTOR existed. More information can be found at: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Life_Day Hell, there's even a picture of what very nearly resembles a Christmas Tree. tl;dr Keep your limited Star Wars experience out of my expanded universe lore.
  17. From the patch notes directly... All-new Grade 7 Artifact Quality Starship Upgrades are now available from the Fleet and Mission Support vendors! Yes you can pay cartel coins for those same items and get them quicker than grinding them out in game, but they are all available in game now, so again, the cartel market makes no pay to win offer.
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but you're own proof just invalidated your initial claim? The highest reported number I saw stated was 1.7 million. Then down to 1.3 million. Then down to 500k. Even if all 1.7 million unsubbed, it's still not 2 million or more And this is why facts and evidence are important when making bold claims. Then again, it's really hard to judge exactly how many people from initial sales actually subbed, or just took advantage of 1 month free game time. And it's probably really hard to accurately follow how many subs left compared to how many new subs occured for the various milestone numbers. It's also near impossible to tell exactly how many of those people are still around, just not subbed since the game went free to play. I know many ex-subbers who still play f2p because they enjoy the story content but not the endgame content, so f2p is perfect for them. But, going by charts and numbers alone, I'm not seeing the More than 2,000,000 EDIT: Another near impossible to track factor is how many, of those sales and subs, were from the same player. You can't claim over 2 million people unsubbed and left, if at least 2 in X of those unsubs was from one player.
  19. Just curious, do you know for fact there will be no event at all before Life Day comes and goes?? I've known other MMOs to reserve events for a few days to the week of the holiday. There's no rule the event has to run all month long. EDIT: Also you will have to more specifically define MMO, as I'm not 100% sure but I'm fairly certain League of Legends does/will in fact require purchasing any holiday skins for champions in their store.
  20. The cartel shop offers no fundamental gameplay advantage over everything made available through subscription gameplay. Your examples list people getting stuff, available in game, quicker by spending more money. This doesn't affect anything except how fast said person obtained their stuff. As soon as the cartel shop starts offering exclusive, game altering, or true advantage giving items, then it will be the evil entity the community is making it out to be. Until that point though, it affects nothing except players wallets and how much they can enjoy the game in the amount of time they have to play it.
  21. LOL... Now this I can agree with whole heartedly. And honestly, I'm not expecting anything when it gets closer to Life Day, but I will argue that until that day comes, we have no clue what could be so there's really a whole lot of outrage over unknowns. This has been my whole point. And my only point. (Granted there was my argument earlier with another member when bugs were somehow brought into this thread, which isn't about bugs, but that's a whole different story.)
  22. Any confirmation as to whether or not it's actually fixed? Someone started a thread in General Discussion claiming it's not working.
  23. My point had little to do with other people buying you cartel coins or a cartel pack, and more to do with we don't know, and shouldn't know, what Life Day will bring us from the developers. This claim is made on the fact that Life Day is modeled after X-Mas, another holiday where you don't know, and shouldn't know, exactly what you are getting, if anything, until the day comes. They could very well still be keeping a "secret" from us, in the sense of one or more of the limited time items arriving in our mailbox, or a special one week only event, etc. You haven't been excluded yet. The event has just started, it's still the beginning of the month. So they added some fun limited time items to the Cartel Market. That's a natural way to try to make some money. Something companies do. There's still plenty of time for subscriber events or gifts to be implemented, so there's no reason for the rage dial at 11 (a comment I made earlier, and my only real point... all this hostility and disgust and complaining is really too pre-emptive). I didn't have a point really. I was curious what you were considering ONE pack for ONE character. There was so much emphasis on ONE that it is really misleading when I found out by ONE pack, you were referring to purchasing everything they made available, which includes multiple packs and items. That point is not invalid, as you were in fact referring to the bundle, that includes everything, and not the ONE item with the ONE word "pack" in it's name.
  24. First and foremost... I know what a PS3 looks like. I can even go to the store now and buy one. Doesn't change the fact that it's a secret if my wife got me one for X-Mas this year, if I don't know that's what she got me. The gift is the secret, not necessarily what the gift could possibly be. Secondly, where does this 4 months worth of sub coins for ONE pack for ONE character number come from? What are we considering a pack here? A full set of gear is 960 CC. That's a smidge less than 2 months for me (I've been getting 500/mo, is this not right?). A "Blockade Runner Cartel Pack" is 360 CC. That's less than 1 month for me. I do see that you can buy the whole daffy kit and kaboodle, not sure if I'd call that ONE pack, since it's actually a collection of many packs, for an obscene amount of CC. Rather misleading if that's what you're referring to there though, since it's in fact about 5 packs... I rather like their word usage "bundle". But no one is forcing you to buy the whole kit and kaboodle here. Do you really need some tinsel bombs? And a holo tree? Ok, so the holo tree is sort of cool, but obtained on it's own for a lot less than the whole frakkin bundle. My point being that if you want everything and the kitchen sink, expect to pay a lot for everything and the kitchen sink, but don't make it sound like you have to pay for everything and the kitchen sink just to enjoy this event. With 1 month of cartel coins awarded for my subscription, and a small 4.99 micro transaction, I can obtain the unique equipment! Yay. With that same one month, if I didn't want to spend 4.99 more for a full set of unique equipment, I could instead try my luck with a cartel pack, and possibly get at least one piece of the equipment, and some other snazzy stuff! Yay. 1 month of cartel coins also buys a lot of fireworks and festivities if "participating in a holiday event" is all I really care about, as so many have claimed their disgusted about having to pay for. If my 15 current speeders (number exaggerated for dramatization) just don't excite me anymore, I can spend a little bit and get a fun new unique speeder! Yay. All of these listed things are currently less than 4 months worth of awarded Cartel Coins. And some of them even have the word "Pack" in their name. And again, there's no telling what <Mythical Life Day Figure here> might leave in my mailbox on Life Day itself, if anything...
