  1. I was in a Safe Zone of a PvE server; received no Invitation to join, and gave nobody permission; a violation per PvE rules. Plus they were in a crowd of folks at the Fleet Med Station, so I would have said intent was fairly clear anyway.

Yes we heard you the last ~100 times, it's still not griefing.

  2. This thread should just die. These guys are just border line trolls at this point. They are just trying to get a reaction out of us by calling us all griefers for playing as intended. We provided ample amount of logic and tried to explain to them what griefing actually is. They are going to continue to believe that their gameplay in an mmo should not be affected one tiny bit by others players. Bottom line is they are not being griefed and they are never going to accept this, just let the thread get buried.

    Agreed

  3. Well So you know 20 people including myself from my guild unsubbed because of this. We are done wasting time getting infected after we wipe in a raid then people needing to go buy stims to clear it. Yea its only 2K people dont care for it. You can have your little fun however people will leave because its not enjoyable when someone is infected during a boss fight in the raid and deads causing the raid to wipe. Sorry But have your fun without more subscriptions. Roll playing will never bring enough subscriptions to pay for a $300 Million game.

50 people from my guild resubscribed because of this.. including myself ^^

  4. Several people are using this word to refer to things that are not, technically, griefing. This is a liminal case; it's griefing sometimes and not griefing at other times. Griefing comes down to intent; if you don't have the intention of causing suffering in another then it's not griefing. So then the question is, if someone flies to a lowbie planet and infects players who might not be able to afford a vaccine... what is their intent? I strongly suspect that in many of these cases those people do intend to cause suffering, so it is griefing. But then I also have only heard about this happening in a couple of instances, and I truly and sincerely hope that this is very very rare overall.

If there's a quest to do something to another player, then doing that thing isn't griefing; it's simply playing as intended. It's only griefing if you go out of your way to affect players who normally wouldn't be involved - e.g. chasing someone down, or using the plague to force someone to flag for PvP then killing them.

The vast majority of what people are referring to as "griefing" in this event is not truly griefing. A tiny minority of people are using this event to grief others. Let's please not lump all the people harmlessly enjoying the event with a tiny number of bad apples.

    The voice of reason, kudos.

  5. Agreed, and some people are descending into pure, nonsense statement making, foaming at the mouth hating. It's been close a few times but I'm still waiting for the first "Worst game ever!!!11!!1"

    Pretty close

I'm already starting to hate this game and it's lame teenage depth
  6. Basically... I'm more or less done with it. There isn't much more to say at this point. Those who want to be stubborn or unreasonable on each side will continue to be so, and those who have respect or an understanding of the other position will continue to have these.

Yeah, I think all has been said.. several times :)

    So it is. :)

I just can't get over the passion, the ire, the rage over a game. I thought I took my gaming kinda seriously but by comparison I am one hell of a slacker.

Ah well, time to go explode or quest or do both.

    Enjoy the evening, folks.

    Have a nice evening :)

  7. But I shall now, and call them newbs and dance on their in game corpses. Cause thats what everyone is doing, right?

Yup, off to do my daily griefing myself.. I think I'll try the dive bombing from the longue approach, that sounded creative.

  8. No, the results of these discussions have yet to be seen. It'll probably be a month or more before we see whether it leads to anything good or not.

That's not what I meant and I think you know that. If I was unclear I apologize, but we have been warned to discuss semantics further. :)

  9. I'd rather they not make events that encourage that behavior.

That may be, but reporting them ingame is nevertheless the right thing to do

So posting on the forums is just as important.

Calling people griefers on the forum doesn't lead to anything good, as we have already seen.

  10. You mean like the guys who were clustered around the pvp terminal and laughing general chat about how they were infecting all the <redacted> who were trying to pvp?

And the guy who was laughing about how he was going to tython to infect the noobz.

Yes. particularly the ones that responded with a variant of "trololol" when people asked them to stop.

Then report them ingame, let BW deal with it.. not everyone is hellbent on griefing you.

  11. And stading among the crowd of a Rest Zone seems fairly indicitive of intent, I believe.

Yes, ofc he's intent on infecting those around him.. that is most likely because he has a quest that tells him to do so. Bioware has given him a quest to infect other players, are you telling us they should punish him for that? The quest says nothing about not being allowed to infect players in any specific place.

  12. because it went over 1000 posts, and since it's the thread people were being directed to, they're continuing to have discussion in it.

if you actually look at the posters 2 or so of them (-Slaughterhouse- the OP and oakamp) are actually calling for the event to be ended compared to the (at least) 30 or so that are in favor of having an opt out mechanism.

I think the OP has cooled off a bit now, he has edited his post.. guess he couldn't change the thread title, so that makes only one then.

  13. In any case, I think judging the support for the event from forumposts is a bad idea, many come here and post when they are annoyed or angry.. just look at the OP wich is now edited to read quite different from what it originally did (guess he's cooled off :))
  14. I'm still curious about this. is there a poll, or are you judging simply from counts of people who have subscribed to threads, which is not really a meaningful statistic?

I'm curious too, unfortunately the poster didn't include a link and I can't find it..

Wouldn't mean much. The % of people who hit the forums is a very low one. Best way would to poll at login but why bother? They have their metrics on this event and I would bet a month's income that it's a hit.

You are probably right, it would serve little purpose
