  1. It's probably a long shot, but I had massive horrible lag last night (skills going off up to 10 seconds after I used them, typing stuff in guild chat and it taking 10-15 seconds to appear, etc.). I even died at level 1 because I didn't know I was being attacked until it was too late, lol. I logged out and rebooted my router and that seemed to work. Everything worked fine after that. Chances of this being your problem are slim, but I thought I would throw it out there. It might be good to check for malware too. Good luck!
  2. I would say it's more like a battle field where the ones in the game have bullets and the others are still on the ships getting shipped to the battlefield. I don't think top player is who gets there first so much as who plays their character the best. Last game I played, the top PvPer on the server (highest rank and most feared) started the game a month after launch. The top raid leader joined the game well over a year after launch, etc. Someone might end up on top due to rushing to end game--but unless said player is also good at playing their class, they will be easily pushed off that mountain.
  3. I haven't seen much of the game to be honest. Of the three hours I had last night to play, I spent about 2 in character creation and maybe another 30 minutes talking in Vent to friends, lol. I got my "main" character to level 2. But it is pretty fun so far... as little of the game as I've actually played. I hope to play a little more tonight. Hope you get in soon!
  4. I kind of feel the same way. I have to mention, WoW was my first MMO. For some reason, people think it's the "first" MMO and it pioneered everything. I think they are confused because it was the first to gain mass appeal, but that's about it. It's amazing how much of that game is based on other games (not only MMOs, but single player games and, as you mentioned, pen and paper DnD). I find it kind or ironic, in a way, that I ended up with early access yesterday (got in last night) but I didn't care so much about it. Although I suppose it was a good thing. It took me forever to just create my characters (character generation is my biggest "time sink" early in any game, lol).
  5. Cool, thanks. I was wondering how things were breaking down on "live".
  6. A previous post got me thinking I should mention this. I am not saying I agree (or even disagree with the early access and how it was done). What I am saying is it is what it is and there is nothing to be done about it now. So it's best to look at solutions for any concerns you might have. I am hoping this thread can be a place where people can voice concerns and others can make suggestions. Not a QQ thread or a "lecture" thread.
  7. Yeah, that's the worst case scenario I can think of (because world PvP would effect everyone). But you know, it would have happened anyway most likely (there is ALWAYS some who powerlevel no matter what the game). Hopefully people who live to gank lower levels will get bored soon. Like I mentioned, you could join a guild for protection or just be sure to clearly communicate with power levelers in your faction when ganking is going on. But at least on other servers it won't matter. I've seen posts where people are concerned that others will power level on a PvE server and and start farming BoE items to sell. In that scenario, just don't buy that stuff (level up on your own time and get it for yourself later on).
  8. Not lecturing... just offering suggestions to help with a situation neither you nor I have any control over. And while I did get on, on the first day, I was in the last wave and didn't log in until the evening. I created more than one character and had no issues with names--this after all the other waves got in. I am just saying it's not as dire as one might think, but if you do run into naming problems, "here are some suggestions that might help".
  9. First of all, don’t panic. You will get in the game and in a few weeks it won’t really matter when you got in. The content will still be there when you get there and you won’t miss anything cool or new. It’s like seeing a movie on the second weekend after its release… it’s still just as enjoyable. But if you are anxious about some common worries, here are some ideas to help. 1) Names. I didn’t get in on the “first” wave and didn’t roll my characters until well after people were on the server. I very easily got my first choice of names for all my characters. But I had backups and my name ideas were somewhat unique. A few of my friends who got in the game were disappointed that their main names weren’t available, but they backup names that were similar enough that it’s all good. Try to have a few backup names up your sleeve. So, for example, if you wanted to name your character “Amidala” have similarly phonetic names like Amadala, Amidela, Ahmidala, etc… at hand. Or just come up with other, completely different names. Chances are you will get your first or second choice. So as long as you aren’t 100% set on “must have the name “Amidala” and it can only be spelled that way!” you will be good. If it’s that bad and you can’t get any of your names (and you don’t have friends in the game already) try a different server. 2) Friends out-leveling you. I am in the game before most of my friends, so I rolled more than one character. I am saving my “main” character for when they are able to log in. Ask your friends if they don’t mind doing the same (especially if they plan on rolling “alts” already). But even if your friends won’t or can’t wait for you… don’t worry. Everyone levels at difference paces and if it’s that important to you, you can “make up” time later on. If you are an end-game content person, it’s literally only like missing raiding for one week (and most likely the “learning” and “high repair bills” week at that). 3) Being lower level on a PvP server. This is a tough one and might be the worst to really combat. You could consider rolling on another server instead, but probably your best bet is to try to slug it out. It will be tough and more challenging, but you will get though it. If you can, join a guild that could offer some protection from ganking. Also be sure to know how to contact people in other zones you can report “ganking.” Most people in your faction would love to fight and take out a ganker… I mean, who doesn’t? I think these are the main reasons I see people upset over not getting in sooner—I mean aside from just generally being eager to play. It’s understandable, but I hope I’ve offered a few solutions to put minds at ease and reduce anxiety. Hope everyone is in game soon.
  10. On a side topic, I know names are a concern for people, I had names figured out and alternatives. I didn't get in the first wave and I wasn't able to log in until the early evening... I still managed to get my first choices on names. So there is hope there too (all the names are not "taken").
  11. You know, if I could do that for people (especially my friends), I would . I am on my way to work so I won't be playing again until later tonight. I only played for about 3 hours last night and only got my "leveling" character to level 2 (I spent most of my time in character creation--I wish I spent more time in beta figuring out what I wanted the characters to look like instead of just hitting "random" for everything, lol). Probably of all my friends, I was the ideal choice for getting in first since I take forever on that kind of thing (for a change, they don't have to wait for me!) Hang in there TonySith... you will get in the game soon (at least, I hope you do).
  12. I told my friends who can't get in that I will wait for them. It's actually pretty easy for me since I want to play three classes. I am playing around on one class and ignoring the other two characters I rolled. When my friends finally get in the game, I will switch and we can level up together. Maybe you could ask your friends to do the same.
  13. hehe.. me too. I bet you will get the name you want (or you will get a similar one or think of another cool name). I can wait too... I am looking forward to getting in the game, but I don't think the world will end if I am not in soon. After all, this is only Dec 2011... not Dec 2012
  14. There isn't such a thing. I refer you to this forum post: So you see, no females here... you didn't see anything... you didn't hear anything...shhhhhh....
  15. I just ignore the trash talk. I don't care if someone is better at me at pushing buttons or moving a mouse... But it would be nice to have server forums for things like guild recruitment. Dumping all the guilds on all the servers in one place is hard to sort though (especially if they don't put their server in the title of their thread).
  16. Just think of how impatient the average forum user is and remember that half of them are more impatient than that I get where the OP is coming from and agree. Chillax and wait. We will all be playing soon.
  17. I don't care either. Sure I would like to get in sooner, but it's not the end of the world. On the bright side, it's nice to see that so many people have this "first world problem." (Meaning--in the nicest of ways--if getting access to a game a few hours after someone else is the worst or one of the worst things in their lives, then hopefully that means things are going well for the people who are complaining).
  18. It won't hurt them in the long run... even in the short run it won't hurt them. In a week or two, most won't even care.
  19. Character names matter for me too... but I try to come up with three or five. Usually I get my first or second choice. Sometimes I change the spelling a tad just to get the name I want. For example, if I wanted to name my character Amidala (just picking this name since I know it's not allowed) and Amidala was taken, I would think of something phonetic that might be similar. So I would have Amidala... Amedala... Amidalla... and then I would throw in something like Leia and Leiha to the mix just in case. I usually get one of those (or if not, I am usually able to come up with a cool name). This can be a problem though if people like to keep the same names from game to game to game and they are taken (I don't do that, so it's a non-issue for me). In that case, you might just have to try different servers. Maybe people who roll on PvP servers are upset because they feel they will get ganked a lot. But they could always get friends to help or just roll on another server. Other than names and possible ganking... I can't think of any other reason people might get upset over not getting in "right away, right now." Anyway, would I loved to have gotten early access... yep. But in the long run (or like another poster said even in just a week from now), it really won't matter when you got into the game. Heck, this is the first game I ever played at launch and it never mattered to me in other games that I got in late. I still had fun, raided, etc, etc... so I guess I am saying, don't worry folks. It will be okay .
