  1. I still can't get used to calling the area the "DMV".. I always think "Department of Motor Vehicles." Then again, with the way traffic is around here, it's probably very appropriate.
  2. I fit the British stereotype too... so much so that some people in my guild assumed I was British. Then I spoke in Vent and they heard my stereotypical American accent, lol. I blame it on too much BBC.
  3. Yeah, I remember you leaving for deployment. You were missed (especially by my squishy warg-food hobbit self). I am glad you are back!
  4. I am totally taking this as a compliment (of course, I also take it as a compliment when the grocery store clerk cards me for beer).
  5. Tea... hot tea. My tea habit was so infamous that in the last game I played the raid leader would often say stuff like, "5 minute bio break, Jilla you have time to make tea."
  6. I was there about a month after launch. I was new to MMOs, so I was pretty amazed at the game and only remember some graphic bugs (something about when I fought the murlocks made the graphics go all wonky). I remember the queues too... yuck. But overall I liked it and it was fun... so is SWTOR (it's fun nd I like it). There are some minor bugs in this game, but nothing I can't play around. I figure it will grow and mature just like WoW did.
  7. How did I miss this thread! My character's name was Jilla and I played on Vilya . A lot of my kin is here too. I was in Forged by Fire there and in Forged by Fire on Mindtrick here. I didn't have any alts--I am not an alt person (although I am turning into one in this game) If you are the same level 50 hunter Linos that I know, you were on Vilya. I used to hang out with a guy who had a 50 hunter by that name. He helped me out a lot in the Moors. If that was you, HI!
  8. Remember bragging to your friends how many times you say it (and inflating the number?) lol. Yeah, that movie made such an impression on me that it's the only movie I really remember, in detail, from that early in my childhood. Down to what theater I was in, where I was sitting, who I was with, etc. I also remember nearly jumping out of my seat when the Jawas shot R2D2... funny thing was, years later when they re-released the original trilogy right before the prequel, I was sitting behind a family with three boys (who never saw the movie before that night). They nearly jumped out of their seats too at the same part, lol.
  9. Since some nice man "accused" me of being younger than I am , I figure I will post a more close up shot than my diving pictures. This one is more recent anyway--as in a couple of months old. http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/8915/swtorg.jpg I won't give away my age, I never do online, but let's just say I am old enough that I went to the original Star Wars film (Episode IV) two weeks after it premiered and still remember how I felt while watching that movie to today. I think I might be the oldest female to post a picture to this thread too (but there are a lot of posts, so I may have missed a few ).
  10. I am a marketing manager at a non-profit and I play both a Bounty Hunter and a Smuggler. Somehow, it seems fitting to pair marketing with bounty hunting and smuggling, lol.
  11. I pretty much second what Bruinologist said. It's not that bad... just look for a mature guild and you'll be fine. Good luck and have fun!
  12. You know, I can empathize with this guy because I've noticed that guys do talk differently if they think they are with all guys... honestly they tell funnier jokes if you ask me, lol. But women do the same thing too, they talk about things with other women that they wouldn't want men to hear. BTW, I noticed this about guys because I tend to join an vent channel and not speak--not because I am afraid of being a female gamer or what will be said to me, but because I really, really hate the sound of my own voice Anyway, they act differently (and like I said, tell better jokes) when they don't know I am female. For the record, I don't like to be treated rudely, but I've honestly never had that problem either--even if they think I am a guy. Anyway, I've never had any real issues with guys in MMOs. Some are a little flirty now and then, but most (including the flirty ones) are just nice guys playing a game and having fun. I've met very few creeps in the 7 years I've been playing MMOs and they are easily dispatched with a high dose of wit.
  13. Hey all... I didn't read all 13 pages of this thread, but I wanted to chime in with something that might help people if it hasn't already been posted. I did lightspring last night and found it frustrating (until I beat it). What was frustrating for me is I was trying everything I could think (mainly trying to pull either Diego or the Sith away from the fight). I did a search and found a strat that said to put Corso on passive until after I managed to pull one of the bosses. It said to pull one of them over the bridge... that didn't work for me, they stayed at the foot of the bridge in healing range of each other. Then I tried to pull to the left, up a ramp near a tent. That worked, but the minutes I tried to interrupt a heal, Corso ran in to fight the other Boss fighting the Jedi. I did another search and found this video by another forum poster: 3HVyGBkMcbX1nzkgDLfz He had Corso on passive until after he pulled to the right as you are facing the mobs. Then he and Corso fought the one boss alone. Healed up. And then finished off the Jedi. I pretty much did the same thing but finished off the Sith. I didn't do as well as he did (my fight went slower--maybe it's my Sawbones build-- but I pretty much did exactly what he did and won the fight. The irony is, it's what I was trying all along and never worked for me when I tried to pull straight back and to the left. Watch the video and what he does and if you are having trouble, it might help. Good luck! BTW, as a someone playing a female character on the light side, that video was great for seeing the dark side of a male smuggler. The best part was Corso's comments, lol.
  14. Sorry to be a little off topic, but this seems to be were the legacy names are being discussed the most and the most in depth. I am being prompted to pick a legacy name (have been for three days). I think I have one I like, but I want to be sure how it will be displayed. Am I correct in thinking if I choose to display it, it can be show as either a surname or a title or both? Example: Legacy name: Wanderfoot Character names will be either: Jilla Wanderfoot Jilla the Wanderfoot Legacy Jilla Wanderfoot the Wanderfoot Legacy For what it's worth, I really don't want a legacy name either. I have a smuggler and a bounty hunter and it seems silly that they would be part of the same group, same family, same whatever. Because the prompt is so annoying, I figured I might as well come up with something and be sure it's something I like (just in case). But what is the reason/point of this legacy name anyway? BTW, I loved the "Tramp stamp" tattoo analogy that someone came up with, lol.
  15. Exactly... flowers might now cut it OP, apologize for the delay just get the stuff done. Most women aren't bought with trinkets like on TV dramas. My Ex used to try that stuff with me (and would then tell me women are 'supposed to like' that kind of thing and 'cry' about it). Ugh! Light switch is easy, get that done quickly just to knock it off the list. The pipe thing could be more complicated (you might need to call a plumber). The basement should be both of you working together (assuming she didn't already do something like clean out the garage while you were supposed to do the basement... or the basement isn't a workroom of yours, etc.). In the future, talk to your wive and plan with her (don't let her dictate to you) weekend chores. Like another poster said, you are a team. And be sure you work in your game time as your "fun time" and make sure she picks something fun too (if she's working around the house all weekend, that's not good in the long run). Good luck!
  16. Wow, some really mean responses to a simple question. Then again, it's a Monday so maybe people are cranky. OP, I can almost bet it's skipping those bonus quests that's doing it to you. I have two characters ... a bounty hunter and a smuggler. I play them exactly the same (datacrons, bonus quests, heroics, flashpoints, space missions, etc). My Smuggler is starting to experience the same thing as your Jedi knight. I think the reason is because I stealth and stealth past a lot of mobs when I no longer need to kill them (where with my Bounty Hunter I kill everything). My Bounty hunter is about 4 levels above the quests I am doing at this point, my Smuggler is 2 levels below the quests. I've started doing extra space missions to catch up on the Smuggler. I know it's not exactly the same as what you are doing, but I point it out for one reason. Just the simple act of stealthing and skipping a few mobs is slowly putting me behind. What you are doing is essentially the same thing PLUS you are skipping the bonus quest. Some ways you can level up that fit in with what you've said you like to do would be what others have said: - Go back and do those bonus quests - Do extra space missions - Kill extra mobs (maybe droids when you see them) - Go back and do heroics for a while before moving on to new content - Maybe offer to help others on quests--even if you've finished them already (could fit into the Jedi mind set for you) - Start another character (to make sure you take full advantage of the rest bonus) Good luck!
  17. Thanks! Yeah, I use flash grenade too... it doesn't always help me live, but it helps (that is if I remember to use it in time! lol. I should probably use it earlier in the fight like you). I guess what made me think of this is last night I had to fight two on-level elites and some trash mobs suddenly at the end of the conversation. That would have been a tough fight if I was ready for it and used all my tricks. The answer might just be deal with it like you said, I am fine with that. It is what it is. I just wanted to see if there is anything else I could do. Thanks!
  18. I don't get to stealth when conversations end in combat (and disappearing act--which I recently got a couple of levels ago--doesn't seem to always work). I always do my best when attacking from stealth first, so this kind of puts me at a disadvantage. What do you guys do when this happens? Is there a good strat or skill rotation? What I've been doing is trying to take out as many easy mobs as possible (that way when I die, I can come back in full strength with stealth and take out the elite ones with my companion). It kind of stinks that that my strat involves dying. By the way, if it matters, I am sawbones specced so a lot of my fighting elites is letting Corso handle tings while I heal him. I am level 26 now (so I am wondering if this is a lull at this level too). Thanks!
  19. I've noticed a lack of calling for tanks too. I'll even see people spamming "healer LFG" or "tank LFG" (along with people who have a tank and healer and need DPS). That kind of thing was unheard of in the last game I played. I am so glad that going healing vs DPS is as simple as reallocating points in skill trees. If this DPS gig doesn't work out for whatever reason, I can always go back to healing
  20. Thanks again for the tips. I posted a thread in the DPS section too (so get more of a feel for group roles). I think I know the basics, but I like to be sure before I a make a fool of myself (and yes, I probably will do something silly). I need to also get a better feel for DPS rotations. I just need to do a little more digging in this forum to see what sorts of things have worked for others. Although it seems to boil down to AoE DPS or single target DPS (depending on the target(s) and situation). One thing I can say for sure, a DPS specced Merc kills things pretty quickly. I feel like I can cut though groups of mobs and kill them all before they even get a chance to fire back. And it's fun taking out elites in 5-6 shots (I stack that tracer missile and can usually finish off with a rail shot).
  21. Yep, that's me I swear I am never going to escape that (then again it's my own fault for not coming up with a new forum name, lol). People who know me still call me "Jilla" in vent and such too, even though none of my characters in this game are named Jilla. I associate that name too much with a hobbit minstrel. But I could consider it if there was the option to play a Jawa... hmmm
  22. You know, I never noticed the guy. I am going to have to look now. I have someone frozen in carbonite on my Smuggler ship too--must be all the decorating rage in the galaxy these days.
  23. I haven't read the rest of the thread yet, but I found LOTRO to be the game I played that had the most women in it. My guild (end-game raiding guild on Vilya) was nearly half female for the longest time. Half the officers were female too. When I left that game I would say the numbers had dropped to about 30/70 in favor of the men. I am in two guilds here (one Republic and one Sith). The Sith guild here is definitely mostly male (at least, I only know of four women in the guild). The Republic guild seems to be about 50/50. Then again, I don't go around asking people their sex, so I can't say for sure if all the toons I assume are played by men are played by men or not.
