  1. What is laughable more than anything is the assumption that this thread is educating folks at BioWare. You can bet that when this game was in production that the folks who know more than we do about the business looked at the risks of not developing for macs and decided that it was a loss that they were willing to take.

Despite all of the manufactured data in this thread, it was deemed a loss worth taking. That is all we really need to know about this subject. This thread, nor any data in it, false or otherwise is not informing anyone at BioWare or EA on what they missed out on.

If the plain-as-day and readily-available market data out there wasn't enough to convince them, this thread sure isn't. But that just means there are poor decisions being made... money is being left on the table, and releasing a Mac client now or in the future will only reclaim a tiny fraction of it.

I am long ERTS and I am not happy this investment was handled improperly.

  2. Why is there no theory crafting? If there is any it's very little. Is it because the combat system is too simple? Is the talent system too simple? Or is the content too easy and there is just no need?

Theory crafting is a lot like a meta game. I not the math wiz the makes formulas, but I have an uncanny feel for what's right and enjoy reading the math.

So what's the deal, where is the theory crafting.

No one really cares about it. The game isn't really built with that in mind, or for players who are interested in that sort of thing.

There's no progression race, no theory crafting that even means anything (are you going the theory craft your companion or wait, no since you can't use them in Ops. etc).

Either by design or accident, this game does not have a deep endgame.

  3. I'm not saying that macs are not good I have a "super pricy" but moderately powered iMac with all the bells and whistles but saying that giant name developers are going to drop windows for OSX when anyone who plays games on a Mac already use bootcamp then they are either a rapid fanboy (and can be dismissed as such) or is being very unrealistic.

I don't believe I said anything of the sort.

What I DID say was they are going to stop developing with proprietary Windows technologies to assure they can deploy to other platforms - much larger markets like the tablet market. The tablet market will (or will be next year) larger than the desktop PC market. No software maker will ignore that.

And they certainly won't create double-work for themselves by creating separate special versions - they will run as much open code and as much platform-agnostic code as possible.

  4. Lol wow after reading all that I guess we can tell who te koolaid drinker is....Sorry dude but people who own OSX (and yes it is different than iOS) just have too low of a market share to make games for, as the Mac users that want to play games use bootcamp anyway...this coming from a Mac and PC user.

Also to te person that said a good self built PC is on the same price lvl as a Mac you are out of your mind. I assume you are talking about the stylish yet moderately powered all in one iMacs...dude...you would have to compare my 2500 buck PC to the Mac Pro which is far more expensive than 2500 to be anywhere close to the same spec lvls.

Sorry Charlie, iOS is a subset of the Mac OS. Fact, period. My company develops for both platforms and deploys on both.

The FACT is developers are shying away form Windows proprietary tech like DirectX because they NEED their software to run on iOS because of the huge market and revenue potential. Because of this, they will be forced to ask more and more "Should we port to Windows" and the answer will, also more and more, be "no".

But supplying it on the Mac is a no brainer - it already works.

    Get ready.

  5. Would just like to point out yet another instance of how iOS is becoming a gaming platform of choice, and through that, eliminating Windows proprietary technologies like DirectX.

Developers all want to develop for iOS, so they use more open standards. This developer skill set is important because it means they have the tools and skills that makes their iOS game automatically compatible with Mac OS X as well (it's the same OS as iOS.) Developers will be then making their current choice in reverse - "Should I port to Windows?" and those who answer "yes" will be fewer and fewer.

Latest case in point: Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. Originally announced for the new iPad, and now coming to the Mac. Not a mention of Windows.

    http://www.macrumors.com/2012/03/30/baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition-also-coming-to-mac/

Sure, they are not the latest cutting edge games... yet. But I'm here to tell you the number of "latest, cutting edge games" you see, especially ones that rely on Windows proprietary technology are going to decrease in numbers drastically.

This is but one of the first snowflakes to fall in what is to be a blizzard of reality for Microsoft, the Windows platform and PC gamers.

    The game is over.

Apple platforms are, without question, premier first-tier gaming platforms, and any developer - especially that of a Star Wars subscription game - are foolish to not supper the platform as soon as possible.

  6. I dunno where you are shopping, but you are doing it wrong.

If you want to slap together a piece of crap built box with fans louder than your air conditioning and a case that looks like it came off of the Wargames movie set, then yes, you can save some money.

But if you want to try and build a humane PC that is power conscious, noise conscious, style conscious... you're going to spend real money and real time.

And even then, you do not get any sort of umbrella warrantee. Something goes wrong with your system? Good luck figuring out what (let's hope it's not the mobo) and then extracting it and doing a warranty return or repair with the manufacturer (not the retailer you bought it from). Then you wait, and your entire system is down while you do.

Indeed, the costs are not that different if you truly add them up and consider the value.

  7. This is no joke. PCs get more viruses because they are 95% of the market. More users = more people to get viruses. So to stake a claim about how safe macs are comparatively is absurd. Viruses, like steroids, are not magical. They take an effort on the user's part to be effective. Every virus I have ever had was because I was attempting to get something for free that I should have paid for.

Anyone who regularly gets viruses on a PC will get them on a Mac unless they quit doing the stupid things that bring on viruses.

PCs get more viruses because they are less secure... simple as that.

  9. After giving up on FFXI permanently (can't stand depending on others to get my stuff done anymore) i decided to give this game a second chance.

I'm reading comments about the game and seems that nothing changed but i still wanna play again.

One thing that would help me stay in this game? Weere the loading times reduced for Tatooine and Alderaan? Did they improve performance for medium rigs (560gtx i5 2500 8gig ram ddr3 1333)?

Please if you are going to post that you don't have these problems, just don't. Save your time, save mine.

I wanna know from ppl that did have these problems as well if these loadings were fixed, if space combat fps improved. Btw, does crafting has any meaning now? Any site with a nice database for recipes IF crafting isn't useless?

What usually happens when you go back to an ex-girlfriend?

  10. WoW will have every race's animations updated to the same level as the Pandas? Really? Just like that Dance Studio you had with WotLK?

There's a difference between scrapping an entire system as opposed to making incremental improvements throughout the game (which Blizzard does each time.) Character animations - and models - are all coming for sure.

  11. sooooo you think TOR should be a sandbox game even though sandbox games are all massive failures for the most part with very few exceptions.... people dont want sandbox end of story is why WoW and TOR have done so well and why even DCUO excells believe it or not people prefer themepark and those are what sells and do well in mmo market.

The future of these games is absolutely sandbox.

  12. When I finished Chapter 1 on my Bounty Hunter roughly a week into the games release Legacy had absolutely ZERO information about it available. So when it prompted for me to put something in, I had no idea what it was for. I had no idea that it was gonna be used as a surname. So with that said can I PLEASE have a rename? I play on a server with all my friends and I am NOT about to reroll to another server. You want flexibility Bioware? Please give me my rename.

Just curious, when it asked for a name, what did you _think_ it was asking for?

  13. TOR's animation's are FAR above WOWs. Wow has like 4 animations for every ability you could do. In TOR, almost everything has it's own animation.

    In combat, possibly.

But when your character isn't in combat - much of the time - they feel soulless and lifeless. Not organic. This needs help.

  14. Where I spend my money is my business. And feel free to bash my family all you like, it doesn't bother me.

The sad thing is, you're here promoting WoW like they are paying your or something...telling me I'm wasting my money on SWTOR, yet to be posting you have to have a sub.

And I played WoW for years...why the hell would I want to go back to that antiquated game with pandas and pokemon.

And the animations in the vid your posted are ridiculous looking.

This thread still belongs in the SWTOR vs WoW thread.

I wouldn't doubt if WoW is the only MMO you know aside from SWTOR.

    Go play pandas, it's ok.

I can assure you I don't have a subscription to TOR, but can still post. It doesn't appear their systems are connected in real time.

You can chirp all you like, the proof is on the scoreboard - and long after the game is over, the score will be apparent.

  15. Thanks for proving my point.

The first and only game you mention is WoW.

Thus, this thread is basically a SWTOR vs WoW thread.

    And SWTOR wins btw.

This thread should be consolidated to the SWTOR vs WoW thread.

    /thread

You may have to constantly convince yourself, or your Mom, that TOR is worth spending your hard-earned $15 a month on, but you can't deny there is MUCH room for improvement.

And the area of character animation is a big, obvious one... and we've got a new current example of what the competition is doing to push it forward.

  16. Shouldn't this be in the SWTOR vs WoW thread?

That's all this topic is about, SWTOR animations vs WoW's.

No, this is about wanting improvements to TOR's character animation.

Has anyone even watched the female Pandaren video I linked? Once you see it, there is no comparison what we're missing here.

  17. Sorry, but no. Character Animations in WoW are not better than TOR's by a long shot. They are a very limited number of pre-determined moves which only have variation between races and genders.

There are many aspects in which WoW beats TOR, but character animations are not one of them, sorry.

Blizzard is constantly lauded by their peers for their character animations... it's one of their hallmarks.

TOR character animations are much stiffer and much less organic, plus they are all the same animations - for every single race and class. We all have the same weird sit animation for crying out loud. The same dance?

Blizzard has outdone themselves with the Pandaren - especially the facial expressions which TOR player models do not have in the real world (if they do, they are indistinguishable) (in cut scenes, they have some of course).

I want improvements, and Blizzard has delivered what I'd like to see in TOR.

  18. One area I'd really like to see improved in TOR is the attention to detail of the character animations, including the variety animations being unique across various races and/or classes.

Recently, Blizzard released more info on MoP as well as started the beta. This has given lots of folks the opportunity to get in there and check some things out, including the new race of the Pandaren.

Now, Blizzard has always been exceptional at animation and character response in their games... secondary and tertiary animation sequences that are second to none and make the characters feel really alive.

Well, with the Pandaren, they seem to have taken it to a whole new level:

Not only are there racially/gender unique animations for emotes everyone has, but also the facial expressions... something Blizzard has not been able to do in WoW before.

I don't want to make this a comparison thread, so I'm not going to post TOR samples. But suffice it to say that I think this is an area where the TOR player characters could use some improvement in both detail and variety!

I realize (and it makes sense) to cut some of these things to make sure the game shipped on time, but although not directly related to gameplay, this is a very important feature that helps immersion, gives the characters (and game) life and soul, and more.
