What are the difference between items brought from GTM & Cartel Market?

There is no difference, Adaptive armor adapts to your class spec. So if your spec'd tank it's heavy and if you respec to a DPS role, it magically becomes medium or light regardless of mods, depending on class. There might still be some very old crafted armor shells that still has the light, medium, heavy designation so check to be sure but they were supposed to have converted everything to adaptive a while back. Armour weight is determined strictly by class, not by discipline.

A Vanguard / Powertech / Guardian / Juggernaut in tank spec wears heavy. The same character in DPS spec wears ... heavy.

A Shadow or Sin in tank spec wears **light**, not heavy, but also in DPS spec.

Commando and Merc DPS (or heal) wears *heavy* and can't be tank at all.

And there is still a fair amount of world-drop fixed-weight armour around, and a bunch of (old) fixed-weight schematics still in people's craft lists on old characters, so you should by no means be surprised to see fixed-weight armour as you play the game.

EDIT: clarification: In the above, I'm talking about the "apparent" weight of adaptive armour. It doesn't change just because you switched discipline.

Yup. Also you find them in drops a lot. Much of the pre-50 stuff you pick up randomly is set to the older gearing style, and if they come with mods, the rating for the level is less effective than just buying green mods from fleet.
