Is it possible that your tankiness is due to other people being lower level? They get bolstered but you still have superior endurance and armor.

Btw, does anybody know how long does the Ion cell proc last? I can't seem to find out its duration when it does proc, it goes away in a split second.

I dont think so because since I hit 50 I always go against at least 2 other 50s on the other team, and even before I hit 50, I could take a great deal of dmg

I think the proc lasts 5s but I could be wrong.

And the DPS is pretty nice. Burst is great for PVP with heavy HIB hits, but some of the best utility comes from simply tabbing and DoTing people with incendiary round. Overall, VG assault specialist gives you a lot of options for mobility while continuing DPS, though if you want to be the most effective, you need to be within melee range for the ion pulse and stockstrike.

This is an awesome thread, contains so much helpful info. Keep up the good work.

I could gladly post my specs, the most important things are priority and rotation in PvP.

If you could, that would be great. The more tactics/specs people share, the better vanguards become overall. I am just about to start some PvP. Although I am no newbie in PvP, I surely am a newbie when it comes to SWTOR PvP (not to mention specifics of vanguards). By this logic I could definitely benefit from experienced vanguard's advice + when compared with all the useful tips mentioned earlier, the whole community could create a nice insight.

can you explain the ammo regeneration more?

Make sure you pay attention to the arrows on the right side of your ammo bar. When you drop below 8 ammo you will drop to 3 arrows, which means it is regenerating slower. As your ammo drops more, so does your regen speed. That's why for the best DPS/threat generation you want to keep it at 8 or higher, so it is refilling at max speed. If your ammo drops below half and you don't have a quick reload or finish off the enemies quickly, the rest of the fight will be painful.

Its kinda complicated, but I'll do my best to explain it. Once you get down to 8 ammo your ammo regeneration reduces to moderate rate and then to slow then very slow. So the goal is to keep your ammo regeneration rate at fast rate. You do this by throwing in a hammer shot before you drop regeneration rate. You really have to play around and experience it for yourself.

Its like energy: it empties over time. The stronger the ability is, the more it uses. You can use a quick recharge when taking down big foes, but it takes 2 mins to cool down. Special shots have no effect on ammo consumption or regeneration. The more you use abilities in combat, the slower ammo regenerates.

Lol, i just dump my mag into the strongest target and then use channeled abilities to give it time to recover. I then hammer shot them until an ability recharges. I typically go for the following:

Mortar (when available)

Cryo strongest guy

Heavy shot cryo'd enemy

Sticky most dangerous standard

run up and use pulse wave

Rapid fire

pulse shot until he goes down

clean up the others

If im going up against one strong person:

Grepple them in close

Stock strike

get some distance so they dont use melee abilities (cryo if dedicated melee and heavy shot)

pulse wave

Sticky

if not dedicated melee, rapid fire

Pulse shot until they go down, stock strike again if it becomes available

Your losing Dps if you dump your whole clip, and rapid fire might be our worst ability. You lose dmg if you take any kind of dmg which is always unless your in a group. Hammer shot actually dose more dmg if rapid fire dose not get the complete channel off.

But I guess you could dump your ammo if your just out grinding mobs and questing. You just have to rest after every pull which slows you down.

what's the coolest abilities you have? Single target, Area, Support?

My most useful ability is easily Neural Surge. I cant begin to describe how ******* amazing this ability is. Ive won many pvp matches and 2v1s because of this skill.

Favorite ability is probably is a tough call between Harpoon, Storm and Guard. Harpoon because its essentially Death Grip from WoW, and to pull sprinting inquisitors to me (never gets old:D). Storm because it makes you feel like a thug when charging in a big group of people, and I feel that this ability is what makes a Vanguard feel like a Vanguard. Last, Guard. Simply this skill wins games and keeps the healers alive. I really cant make a choice between these three.

Guard on the ball carrier + sonic grenade (the AOE taunt) on the zerg trying to kill him = haha good luck. Follow up with Neural Surge when the taunt wears off to make them even angrier.

Neural Surge is awesome, but be mindful of enemy resolve bars when using it. It also works well if you're harassing a healer to fill in while your interrupts are on cooldown. The 2.5sec is also enough to run across an inactive fire pit in huttball without giving your chasers a chance to stun you in the fire -- though of course it's better to wait until you have a white resolve bar and/or Tenacity is off cooldown.

What does it mean to "activate" an ion cell?

The different Cells are like stances for the Jedi. You just click on Ion Cell and its on. Once its on it will "Activate" and cause a DoT to be put on the target.

Great post! I just started a trooper and planning on going Vanguard at lvl 10, what is a good crafting crewskill to take for a Vanguard tank?

I took Armourtec and it helped me level a considerable amount. I maxed it around 38 and then I realized that the lvl 40 pvp gear was better and then I stopped making myself stuff for a while. But at 50 its pretty nice because you can make you a whole set of 116 rating gear and you can make a 140 rating belt and bracers that are prolly close to best in slot.

I think BioChem could be pretty useful as well with the never consumed med packs and stims but I honestly dont know much more about any other crew skills.

What is your hardest hitting instant cast power. how much will it crit for?

What is your hardest focus cast? Do you it in PVP?

Hardest hitting instant cast power is easily Stock Strike. Highest right Ive gotten so far is around 2500.

Im assuming that when you say focus cast your talking about channeling abilities. Mortar Volley dose a disgusting amount of dmg and I try to use it when the other team is grouped up on a point trying to cap it.
