Went through all troubleshooting steps

1) power cycle router

2) ipconfig /flushdns

3) grabbed new launcher

4) verified firewall

5) called support, they had me mess with launcher.settings which had me re-download the game.

Issue still occurring. Was able to get back on for about 5 minutes, then server started lagging me out. Was booted, now cannot connect to Star Forge.

Looks like a internet infrastructure spine/backbone down from Miami to Washington... Doesn't look like its EA/Bioware server problem.

It’s not just the traffic. I’ve tested different routes using ping plotter. I’ve narrowed it down to level3 having issues two hops from swtor. Level3 always seems to cause people issues, I think most congestion atm is because other providers are getting increased traffic while people/ISPs try to bypass level3.

We actually had this problem about 4-5 days ago and it was level3 then too. To fix it, I think Bioware rerouted every5hing through Zayo. Even though I had an extra 9 hops to the server, it was still better than normal for me. The ping actually dropped and became more stable.

Then I decided to try WTFast and the ping dropped significantly. It was actually back to the same speeds I used to have on the west coast.

I was connecting through Zayo all week and then about 8 hours ago the routing went back to level3 and it’s turned to crap again.

Is that a coincidence, sure, but to me it shows it’s most likely level3

Eehhhhh I don't think it's level 3 in my case.

Both computers connected through the same network going through the same pings. My primary new laptop keeps dropping/won't connect to SWTOR - it connects to everything else without issues.

My piece of **** laptop that can't run umbra is currently chugging along just fine as far as connecting to the servers.

Edit: Oh wait, now it's not anymore.

Yet I am not seeing any impact on my game play by anything Level-3 sourced. How exactly would you explain that??????? My impact is from an AT&T backbone in Kansas City. So, please explain how Level-3 is somehow a universal culprit here? I accept that it is Level-3 that is impacting you.... but clearly it is not a universal choke point with what is going on this afternoon.

By the way.... your issues with Level-3 that you are reporting... it could be something the studio has no control over, and you clearly do not have any control over it. In fact none of us has any control over your hops on the internet unless we are using a VPN or similar application that allows the user to pre-select one or more routes.

All that said.. I DO believe that different internet server providers can and are treated differently by the backbones, and I bet it has a lot to do with fees, fee savings, and maybe even some protocol issues. Just wait until the FCC in the US pulls the plug on net neutrality next month..... I expect things are going to start to get pretty squirrelly in 2018 in the US backbones.

Please note: Level-3 as a provider actually no longer exists. They were acquired by Centurylink a little over a year ago. There is a lot of consolidation going on with internet infrastructure and service companies right now in the US.

Have you run ping plotter or a tracert today? It’s possible your level3 routing bypasses their problem. Also if you have low ping normally, it may not be as noticeable.

It is true that EA don’t necessarily have direct control with problems to do with level3. But EA can tell level3 to fix something that is one-two Hops from their datacentre. If level3 don’t do anything, EA have the option to route around it with Zayo, like they did earlier in the week. I’d also hazard a guess that EA have a contract with clauses in it that cost level3 financially if they can’t provide a stable service.

Keith told me they were working with all their backhaul ISPs to stream line and optimise the connections. That is what he meant when he mentioned the “two weeks” after the move.

I’ve been using a VPN (WTFast) to actually preselect routing and I’ve tested it without too. I’m sure I mentioned that earlier.

I didn’t know about level3 being taken over. All I can see are the level3 routers and the level3 website. I don’t live in the US, so I don’t follow your countries politics or news.

What does net neutrality mean? Are they clamping down on control of the net? That would certainly have wider ranging effects outside of the US too.

Try running a continuous ping or get ping plotter. That will show you were it’s happening. A tracert won’t show the big picture.

Run a tracert to see your routing. That will show if you are even routed through level3

This is, believe it or not, a pretty decent (and in depth) look at what "net neutrality" is. This first clip is from a couple years ago. It is in the news again because the U.S. government is trying to alter the rules governing the internet.

And a more recent clip, from May of this year.

I just watched this and it’s funny, but this net neutrality thing is scary. Did they actually get that passed?
