A Kindly Old Monster requirments are too much (recruitment spoilers)

and I, being completely unaware WHAT are those "required materials", have given 21 Raghoul cannisters that I (non-intentionally) acquired during this Raghoul event plus 1 x Barnacle of Eyeless (that was rusting in my storage) to dr Lokin and bam, recruited.

No bothering about mats, skills, etc.

So, you see - read Dulfy and she will teach you well...

I agree it should not be a requirement for us to have to pick up a particular skill that we did not already have nor to have to spend over a million credits in the AH, I can tell you without any reservation on my part that i will not be making others rich in this game because Bio want to make us grind out materials on a quest for a lousy companion that i doubt I will ever use.

This ticks me off more than the scale down and that has me almost mad enough to go back to WOW, .... ALMOST at 65 if I want to go back to other worlds and pummel on world bosses solo then that is my right I worked my *** off getting all 12 of my characters to that point, wait a sec you don't have some of the same idiots that did this to SWG working here do you?

I think you want people to leave the game otherwise you would not pull this kind of crap.

Overreaction much?

Can't wait to see the reaction of some of these players if another companion requires the mats that they can gather with their scavenging. I wonder if they'll come back on and fight for the case or give away their hard-earned mats for free.

My problem is I can't figure out how to start it!

Do I haaaaaaave to recruit Qyzen? :( I've got everyone else, but I don't feel like going on a wampa hunt.

Yes. There was a dev post awhile back that says all subsequent companions are locked behind the previous companion given by each specialist. Qyzen is the first companion Aygo sends you after and Lokin is the second, to get Lokin you have to get Qyzen.

Qyzen's not so bad. I actually ran around Hoth killing elite(?) mobs instead of the World Boss method. There's a section of the map - can't recall where since it's been ages - where you can run from one end to the other, nab four elite ice cats and a wampa en route, switch instances, and run back in the other direction whilst killing another four cats and a wampa if there's no competition. I don't remember how long it took me to meet Qyzen's dumb requirements, but I know I did it well within my usual play session of a little under two hours.

I ignored Lokin for awhile, but finally got around to recruiting him after I read some forum post that brought up Mass Effect 3's War Effort system and didn't much feel like getting murdered by Reapers or whatever SWTOR's equivalent might be. If you have an alt that's capable of doing so, you can kill and harvest Grade 8 biochem materials off those silver Massassi mobs on Yavin IV. Takes a few hours, sure, but it beats running around looking for nodes.

It takes 8 stacks of the green mats to get to level 10. Nothing a bit of time on Yavin 4 thinning the wild life and picking flowers doesn't fix.

Exactly this. - and if you have a instant 60 token, you can use this and take Bio to gather the mats. - If you gather something else as well with archaeology or slicing or scavenging, you'll have several 99 stacks within an hour- can pick up some credits from doing the daily in the area, and sell any excess / unwanted materials.

, you can always delete the new character before level 61 and repeat.

If picking flowers is too easy, sell the excess to people who can't be bothered to grind / don't have the skill, and make a shed-load of credits in the process: Win-win.:)

The only thing needed to recruit Lokin is the biochem on a character and a little patience. You send the character to do the Yavin weekly, travel to Yavin is free from the fleet. Gathering everything in sight and killed beasts nets ~300 of each material. Then just have to wait for the event

I was one of those who tried to make some money on the event by putting the mats up on the GTN. I only finally found a buyer just yesterday and that was for a measly 125k / stack. I could have gotten a better credit return just running content than harvesting the mats.

But with that said, the one thing that annoys me about this quest chain is that you aren't even finished when you do the Rakghoul part. You still have another location to go to. And there is still the going back and forth.

In my opinion, the rakghoul portion of the quest should have been the last stage since it is the limiting factor in getting it completed.

Only you HAVE to learn Bio on that 60 as it does NOT come with it nor give the option. So you have to level it to 450 before you can do it, which would be quite a few hours, and then have to be careful going to any place you can harvest mats because if you kill stuff gathering mats in a short time you will level.

RG event is monthly now, if you don't want to buy mats at peak prices, wait a week or two for the market to cool down, buy in the slack time, and pick him on the next go-round.

He's hardly the only annoying recruit - I thought 4X was a lot more annoying, since you can't pay him off with credits, and I'm not that thrilled by PvP (though I'm not saying I won't do it again; it'll just take a bit). And I'd be a little surprised if there aren't other alliance comps who want crafting mats, either. Technically, Qyzen used the same mechanic, only what you farmed the target critters for wasn't also a crafting mat.

Where did the dev say the Rakghoul event was monthly? Rakghoul event wasn't schedule for Jan. It only happening in Jan as a make up for being bugged in Dec. After Feb I doubt we will see it again till the summer. They load Nov-Feb with events because of lack of anything else for players to do and chance to get Lokin.

This is confusing. Are you guys saying that, for example, if I were playing my sith warrior and I was looking forward to getting Vette back, it's possible I'd have to recruit her through one of those alerts, but that her recruitment mission might be locked behind some other companion mission that I didn't do? Like if I don't want to do the pvp one for example, I don't get to have Vette come back? (I mean without using the terminal.) omg..

(Just noticed this wasn't a very good example, being that Pierce is a warrior companion and you don't have to do the pvp mission to get him back, but you know what I mean.)

Yes, it's possible. We don't know yet. I would hope that they wouldn't do that with romantic companions, but who can say?

The talked about it during the last Dev stream. For the most part companion recruitment will not be locked behind others but they maybe a few exceptions. Exceptions is where the companion may have tie to another one. The way they made it sound is at this point this would be rare.

Vette has a tie to Risha. That they both grew up together. You may need to recruit Risha to find Vette or vice versa.

Personally I don't care either way about Vette but she works well enough as an example. I don't think the one I'm most curious about is tied to any others, really.. Well anyway I'll try not to panic over it, yet. Thanks for the clarifications.

In just a couple of the companion back stories you do get the occasional interaction with a companion from a different class. It was rare and very brief, but it did happen.

So it wouldn't surprise me at all for BW to pull a stunt like that. To simplify in finding the location of your love interest you need to interact with other companions you unlocked previously. And if you didn't recruit them, it makes regaining the love interest companion just that much harder. The companion you didn't recruit makes you jump through hoops to get the information you need, the companion you did recruit just nonchalantly tells you exactly what you need to know.

It would fit quite well in their "choices matter" game design that they know claim to believe in.

I have to admit, it's maddening not to know the answers to these questions.

The companion story stuff was always what I played this game for. Not grinding and pvp and such. I mean, it's sort of like if I were reading a novel that leaves off on a cliffhanger but the cashier at the bookstore won't sell me the next book in the series unless I present her with my green belt certification, lol.

I hope you get them back soon; there are a couple I don't see coming back or at least not for awhile.

Mako, I don't think she'll be back. The love letter she sends basically says she going to retire.

I've thought about starting a thread for people idea how some companion would come back based on back story but these forums tend to go toxic.

I don't see what the problem is here. Lokin much like Pierce is just one out of the tons of companions you can potentially gain now and in the future. Right now, if you do every companion mission but Lokin's or Pierce's, you can potentially have 20+ companions. They are not key to the KOTFE story, you already have more than enough companions to do crafting...so what what's the problem? why do you need them?

Personally I see this as people with "I want all the shinies" syndrome but not wanting to work for it. I'm sure people will whine about having to do Bowdaar's missions with Eternal Championship too.

So far pretty much every class companion has been able to bypass most if not all of the mission requirements if that is your class's previous companion. Yuun you still had to do the mission for Troopers. Lokin allows Agents to bypass the gathering component requirement but you still have finish the quest. I'm assuming you won't need to do any of the EC stuff to get Bowdaar. Edited by DarkChadmeister

It was a scheduled to run monthly at least November, December, and January (the December RG and Gree events failed to go off, so they preempted a couple of the January events). The implication has certainly been to run it and Bounty hunting monthly, since Dr. Lokin's recruitment depends on RG event, and it's not like they don't have time to do so.

At any rate, I'd be a peeved new subscriber if I signed up tomorrow, bought a insta-60, ran KotFE, and couldn't recruit Lokin until the summer; and those are the customers BW is chasing (for better or for worse). I'm not betting my lunch money that RG event will run less than monthly from this point out.
