XantosCledwin Posted April 27, 2015 Share Posted April 27, 2015 so I was looking up the titles of the Trooper class and discovered that the Trooper gets the following titles: Sergeant Lieutenant Captain Major Prior to that I looked up the ranks in the Grand Army of the Republic (Prequel Trilogy, and Clone Wars) and what I found is the following: We skipped 2 ranks to automatically become a Sergeant We skipped 2 more ranks when we were upgraded to Lieutenant Captain is the rank immediately after Lieutenant... And Major is the rank immediately after Major. In effect we skip 4 total ranks during the course of the Trooper Storyline. Granted there is a total of 4 additional ranks (not counting Jedi Exclusive ranks) in that army, but we managed to reach the lowest rank at which we theoretically should be in command of 300-800 soldiers at a time. Do we really need a higher rank than that? For reference the ranks after Major in the Republic Army are as follows: Battalion Commander Regimental Commander Senior Commander Marshal Commander Jedi Exclusive Ranks (which don't really exist in SWTOR to my knowledge) were: Jedi Commander (Padawans) Jedi General (Knights and Masters) Senior Jedi General (Senior Masters) High Jedi General (Members of the Jedi Council) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

After Major, there are only three ranks: Colonel, General, & Supreme Commander. Admittedly this is a bit silly given the size of this organization, but the Trooper gets promoted straight up the line. If that is true then there seems to be a rather limited amount of ranks available in that time period. Most militaries, even in the real world have multiple degrees of several of those ranks. For an society that has trillions of citizens, its military isn't very stratified. The LORE item is on Ord Mantell near the Cantina if you're curious. Haystak Posted April 29, 2015 Share Posted April 29, 2015 (edited) Republic ARMY From the wikia it looks like the republic army is really only made up of special forces, security details, and private gaurds. The bulk of the forces fighting are acutally members of a planets military, or a systems military. The Republic Navy on the other hand is much more established and seems to have a more complex ranking system, I could understand with such small groupings that a limited form of ranks would be needed. You dont need to have 20 ranks for groups that might now span more than a thousand people.( I cant imagine a special forces unit being collosal) Most armies that fight for the republic look to actually be armies managed by planets that reside within the republic, with the armies themselves keeping the rankings given to them by their respective governments. The republic is just given command over these forces. This might explain why Republic commanders have such authority though, and why when special forces show up, they seem to have a bit more sway over local commanders (commando story line seems littered with people of local militias/militaries that dont like repuiblic special forces, because they dont like someone just coming in and running the show) Edited April 29, 2015 by Haystak Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Starting immediately as a Sergeant makes sense, you are a member of Havoc Squad after all Private Specialist Corporal Sergeant Ensign Lieutenant Captain Major Colonel General Supreme Commander Personally, after we defeat the Emperor I think we should either get the Colonel title, or the Commander title (technically we've been a Commander since Coruscant ) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I realize this is several years later from the original request, yet just wanted to let people know they heard your ask. Later on, when you get back to the Camp the Conversation continues, and Jordan says getting all the paperwork done to bring you back from your reported death... ...I then even said, I want the back pay and the title. Once you complete Chapter XI & start XII you are able to use Colonel as a Title, it's just lower in the list and not grouped with the other Republic Ranks!
