DomiSotto
Folks, I am looking for the ways to improve my energy management. I so far followed only the left tree (to level 29), so I will look into adding talent on one of the DPS trees, but what else could I do to stop running out of energy so fast? I am trying to use energy pulse, stockstrike, cannon pulse, sticky grenade, and that single rocket over the two shots, but still, once the fight goes beyond my first recharge cell cooldown, I often get to the point that all I can do is spam the basic no energy-cost shot. Will increasing aim help? Any augments? Or will the NRG improve with levels? TY!

You want: Stockstrike on Cooldown High Impact Bolt on Cooldown Pulse Cannon on cooldown Mortar Volley on cooldown Ion Pulse or Explosive Surge (free one) every ~10 seconds Remainder of the time spam hammer shots. It will take a while to get resource management under control though - you get the proc for Free double-speed pulse cannon and energy blast, and the 2 free flame sweeps after a jet charge. With that under control, ammo management should be much nicer. Same with as you get more defense and shield rating, as you get ammo back whenever you shield or defend an attack (6 second lockout because /flips table) Edited October 3, 2014 by TACeMossie
DomiSotto
Thank you! By rocket I meant the HiP. Sorry, sometimes I remember things by button number/pic rather than the name like a kid I'll recheck the abilities line-up to tune it with your suggestions, and see if I can put a bit more into Shield. I have huge problems with the Mortar volley, because I can't seem to target it well, with that minimal distance the AoE has to be initiated at. I am normally using double-tap for AoEs and mortar volley is way harder than the Slinger's Freighter to activate, because you can't drop it on yourself. Sorry, TMI. Anyway if you meant High Impact Bolt when you said rocket attack, then I was thinking of something else (Explosive Round). You should still use HiB though because its good. Anyway, at level 30, shield tech gets the ridiculously awesome ability STORM, so I dont see any reason to start putting points into other trees just yet when you dont have the amazing cap closer just yet. NOTE: STORM IS LITERALLY A FORCE LEAP CLONE WITH A LONGER ANIMATION, ITS NOT THAT AWESOME OTHER THAN ITS A 30M GAP CLOSER Edited October 3, 2014 by TACeMossie
DomiSotto
Yeah, I moved the ER far off, so I don't get tempted to use it, and put the pulse closer. Yay, looking forward to L30! Gap closer would be awesome, despite the sheer joy of harpoon. Edited October 3, 2014 by DomiSotto
Joshthecook
Are you talking for boss fights in flashpoints or just questing? If it's just questing then it's normal at that level to have to reload your energy. Most of those fights are quick and bursty so not having optimal energy management is fine, especially in Shield Tech. I would advise using Mortar Volley only when Reverse PowerCell is off cooldown. If the fights are just taking to long, check your and your main companion's gear, might be time for a few upgrades. Gear wise, you really don't need defensive stats till you start getting close to 50 if not till then depending on your play style. Stick with high aim and power armor, mods, and enhancements. DomiSotto
I was having troubles with the boss fights. I stalemated Hammer Station when I solo'd it, and soend some time dancing around the Cademimu boss spawning Hammer shots. With TAC's suggestions, at L32, I do much better now (explosive rounds gotta go from my shield specialist's rotation in particular). But I will be running Mando Raiders, ASAP, that will be really a test of my ability to keep my weapon charged up. So far, I have no access to shield enhancements, but they are coming from my artificer on L35 Yay! I keep a heavily-endurance leaning build, because that's what works well in PvP. Obviously, I will sacrifice it if the char stop being playable, but so far he facerolls the levellling content even on an appropriate planetary level. I really enjoy playing a tank after soloing 2 DPS's and playing a pure healer following a tank.
Whitelightr
At lv32 your spec should look like this: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#801rMMrdoroM.3 For trash pulls you have 2 options- Storm>Stock Strike>HiB>Explosive Surge>Stock Strike(proc)Ion Pulse>Explosive Pulse The other option is to Mortar Volley before the Storm, then the above. By pushing ES out you do 2 things- gain easy AOE threat on the 3rd action AND because its free after storm you gain 1 GCD of cell recharge. So a pull looks like this for cell management---- 100 (Storm) 84 (Stock Strike) +5 regen=89 cells 73 (HiB) +5 regen=78 cells Explosive Surge (free) +5 regen=82 cells Stock Strike/Ion Pulse(64 cells) +5regen=69 cells ES (free) +5 regen=74 cells Your goal is to use Stock Strike, High Impact Bolt, Pulse Cannon/Explosive Surge (with proc only until you get the hang of it), (and later on) Energy Blast and Shoulder Cannon on cooldown. Those are your bread and butter threat generators. If none of those are available to use follow the simple rule of: 3 arrows on cell regen= hammer shot/4 arrows=Ion Pulse. That will serve you well for typical flashpoint runs, later on for operations you will learn to weave in Recharge Cells+Reserve Powercell to get the most threat on a pull without killing your regeneration rate.
